This is a chain, and of my local outlet (not this one), I was told that the "pints were better than the pies". Given that I'm not a beer drinker, I was not persuaded to try the place. But this Fayetteville, WV location had the virtue of being one of the few things open; the area is beautiful but it's not the most happening town and everything is seasonal and has limited hours. The location has parking behind the shop, and a widespread interior with a bar, a covered patio, and a small playground out back. When you walk around to the entrance, there is a podium behind which the hostesses apparently hide so they can pop up like a jack-in-the-box when someone walks in.
I was unsure of the wisdom of ordering a salad and a beverage, but I saw they had a draft root beer so I figured I'd give it a try. And it was a deliciously complex mix of flavors, plenty sweet but with various spice notes in each sip. My salad, described as simple, was better than I expected. I've had some low-effort salads that are just a few leaves with one or two toppings, but this was a large plate with radicchio in addition to multiple lettuces, and an abundance of tomatoes, onions, and croutons. So I was pretty satisfied before my pizza even arrived.
I asked about half and half pizzas given their many options, but they could only do that on a large, I was told. This seemed kind of ridiculous to me; I mean is putting toppings on half a pizza rocket science? But whatever, I went exotic and tried the Mexican Street Corn pizza, with a lot of corn and a few jalapenos. It didn't have conventional tomato sauce, but with the lime chili powder and the fresh onions and parsley I think they achieve what they were going for. It wasn't a great crust, and frankly the pint did end up being better than the pie for me, but I could see the place is filling an important niche.
