7 Best Day Trips from New York City

"This 1825-era B&B is adorable, right on Cold Spring's Main Street, and comes with a fabulous breakfast. Rooms have four-poster beds, canopies, and lacy coverlets—all the details are spot-on, right down to the clawfoot tubs. There's a cute little "conservatory" for dining with other guests after a night of sleep, and you can sip wine in front of a wood-burning fire. Of all the older options downtown, this is the best by a longshot." - Alex Van Buren, Andrea Whittle, Devra Ferst

My boyfriend and I stayed at Pig Hill Inn for a weekend and had an absolutely incredible experience start to finish. Everyone was so kind and welcoming. Walking into the dining area to find a different freshly made baked good every day of our stay was genuinely a delightful surprise that made us feel like family instead of guests. Who doesn’t love lemon cake and apple pie? The staff is truly spectacular with Dave continually going above and beyond to ensure our time at the Inn was as comfortable as possible. Breakfast is freshly made to order and our server, a wonderfully sweet woman, was so attentive and accommodating. The food itself was to die for. Each day there was an option for homemade waffles, pancakes, fruit, perfectly cooked eggs, and best of all, a daily omelette featuring cheese and veggie pairings. I had a mushroom and Brie omelet that I will be dreaming about. We stayed in the Bella Rose room which was warm and beautiful with antique furnishings. Housekeeping did a lovely job of keeping the room spotless during our stay. Overall, we could not have had a more perfect experience. We cannot wait to stay here again and will continue to recommend this phenomenal establishment to anyone looking for a amazing weekend getaway.

My girlfriend and I spent a night at the Pig Hill Inn and it was wonderful! Vera, Dave, and staff were top to bottom kind, thoughtful, and accommodating. The breakfast was delicious, and the room was fantastic. (Soft bed! Amazing water pressure and hot water supply in the shower!) Everyone we met both at the inn and in the town was very queer/LBGTQ-friendly. We'll definitely be back!

Great location, great accommodation and phenomenal staff. The staff are who make this place spectacular. The breakfast is amazing and freshly made, housekeeping makes sure your room is freshly made each day and that you have everything needed to be comfortable during your stay, and the location is amazing. If you’re in the area and looking for a quaint, warm and welcoming place to stay, I would highly recommend Pig Hill Inn.

Great romantic old-style hotel, especially for the price. It's cozy and gives family vibe. The breakfast is tasty and people are nice to be around. The location is as central as it gets, but hiking is extremely accessible too. We're going to stay here again in fall to hike the foliage.

Incredibly lovely place to stay for a weekend update. The inn was so charming and full of character— we stayed in the Enchantment room. Vera and Patricia were so welcoming. Nestled right on Cold Spring’s Main Street and very walkable to antique shops, coffee shops, and 4 minutes from the waterfront. Wonderful hiking as well. Thank you!!!

I really wanted to enjoy my stay here but was very disappointed with the state of the room. I stayed in the Tranquility Room and it was dirty, dingy, and outdated. The blankets and pillows had stains all over them. I asked for new blankets and received another stained blanket (white blanket in pictures). I was offered an apology and bottle of sparkling wine for the trouble. I do wish that instead I was offered actual clean blankets or maybe a discount. If all other hotels in the area hadn't been booked, I would have left. On the positive notes, the location is excellent, the staff are friendly and kind, and many of the other rooms looked nice.

Beautiful, cozy B&B in a phenomenal location. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and cozily appointed. Breakfast was hearty and delicious. And the ladies who run the place were absolute sweethearts. We'll be back!

Have stayed here twice with my boyfriend and one time with my friend. The inn and the staff are lovely, and the breakfast is great. I will continue staying here when I need a weekend getaway from NYC and want to enjoy some hiking!
