Pikes Peak - America's Mountain

Do not trust Google Maps for the rout. It took us in the middle of nowhere. We ended up calling the park ranger and got the right address which is 5069 pikes peak highway cascade 80809. It is past Santa’s workshop. A unique drive up to the summit. We chose to drive up as it was non-season we hardly had to buy entry tickets in advance, or wait in any sort of queue or get stuck in traffic jam. It was a beautiful but a little scary drive all the way up and down the summit. The food choices at the summit are very limited, the doughnuts were like any other doughnuts!

Absolutely stunning views! Dress accordingly it is chilly at the summit. Driving up really wasn’t bad for us. Coming down was difficult due to the incline. They check your brakes to make sure they aren’t too hot and either let you go on or pull off to cool down. If you have the time to drive there’s so many pull offs for amazing photos and views of the cities and mountains in the are.

This is a must do if you're in the area. Tickets are reasonably priced and you must get a timed entry ticket in advance. You have a map guiding you to all the beautiful views to get the best photos on arrival. There are restrooms along the route and plenty of picnic areas. The road is well maintained and the views don't disappoint. At the top is a great visitor centre with great information on the mountain, gift shop, restrooms and a cafe selling various food and their famous donuts. A really good few hours out.

Beautiful place! The road is amazingly impressive, you really becoming one with nature! The views on top are breathtakingly! However, be aware of altitude dizziness and lack of oxygen. You will be watching at 14k+ feet high!

Amazing views. A little scary driving the winding and sometimes very narrow roads. Drove all the way to the top but we were literally in a could so there really was no view but God is great and it was awesome. If you have asthma or any type of breathing problems I would highly recommend taking some oxygen. Altitude sickness is a very real thing. Overall I lived it.

Driving up Pikes Peak was a nerve-wracking, great time! We had never been up the Pikes Peak Highway before, but it was an awesome experience that most should try to enjoy in their lifetime. There is so much to see. The views and the scenery are amazing. There are many places to pull out and stop along the way up and down. The summit has a large parking lot, viewing platforms all around, and a lovely visitor center with a museum, cafe, gift shop, and clean restrooms. We also experienced Pikes Peak through the Cog Railway earlier in the week. That is another wonderful way to enjoy the mountain in a more relaxed setting. You don't have to drive on the edge of a cliff without guard rails!

My family and I took the Pikes Peak cog rail up to the top of Pikes Peak. Nice trip, very comfortable climate controled rail cars. Got up to the top and was shocked at how cold it was and how strong the wind was. Even though they tell you what the temps and winds are up top, its hard to understand until you're up there. Our trek took us up to the top with 45 mph winds, 17 degrees, wind chill of -6. It is absolutely a beautiful place, but if you are from sea level places, please prepare oxygen tank or can. On the very top of the mountain, lack of oxygen can make you queezy and feeling like fainting without knowing/realizing. Once you are half way down, then you would feel good again, but just be prepared.
