On the Grid : Sorellina

"When this unassuming pizzeria opened up, we were impressed with the minimal fit-out and continued to be impressed by how deliciously on-point their wood-fired pizzas are, as well as how good the service (and wine list) is. If you’d let us, we’d ramble on about how good Sorellina and their pizzas are ALL DAY. Be sure to order the dough balls. Too legit to quit." - Josephmark

This was a bit disappointing unfortunately. The venue is beautiful. The service was passable, mistake with order, forgotten drink and not very attentive, although friendly. The focaccia was fine - a few burnt bits. The flavour of the granita of the oysters was nice although they weren’t shelled properly and had mouthfuls of shell in more than half of the oysters. Not acceptable at $7 per oyster. The plate of meats and THREE pieces of one type of cheese was $54. This was supposed to be enough charcuterie for three people, I’ll say it again, that’s ONE piece of cheese each??? The presentation of the kangaroo tartare was gorgeous and I really wanted to like it but the flavour was just really off, I couldn’t have more than one bite. It was minced, not chopped as it should be and had a very strong juniper berry sauce which I didn’t think paired well at all. The portion size of the octopus was also incredibly small. 4 tentacles. It wasn’t bad but nothing special. Calamari was also really disappointing. There was three pieces of calamari and the rest of the pile was anchovies which was a shame as the batter and sauce were nice. Overall the flavour was lacking, the portions are small and it was overpriced.

Delightful experience here as it has been on other occasions. Good, warm service and delicious food. My old fashioned’s were perfect and the whipped bottarga and lemon myrtle oil dip is pretty special. Will be back again!

Great spot. Service could be better, especially on the wine side of things - having enough ice buckets and being mindful of temperature control. It's definitely worth going to, though. The food was good, except the cheese platter that had stale crackers and the tiramisu, which was pretty much all cream. Otherwise, it's a great place. Good atmosphere and open kitchen. Feels warm.

I have dined at Pilloni several times and the food has been outstanding every time. The staff take the time to explain the Sardinian method and suggest dish combinations and wine pairings. We dined on Saturday night, which was busy, so the lower service levels are very understandable on such nights versus quieter times. Having said that, on this occasion the service was lacking throughout and toward the end of the meal, we felt pressured on a 3rd course then rushed off the table when we declined. I understand people were in the bar area waiting to be seated, however we had barely a few sips of wine left (our second bottle), and felt this was aggressive given the offer of desert at the table. Aside from that, the food was, as always really wonderful and the atmosphere warm and comfortable.

One of the best dining experiences i have had in Brisbane. Food was cooked to perfection, special mention to the culurgiones. Our waiter Andrea was excellent too! The place is stunning and the ambiance was great! 10/10 definitely recommend from a European that knows his food well!

Outstanding food, service and atmosphere. You're taken to another world through the menu. We had the set menu and it was sensational. Every course was met with oohs and ahhhs by our group. Highly recommended for any occasion.

As an Italian, I was absolutely delighted by this restaurant in Brisbane. It was a truly beautiful experience, both in terms of food and service. We had the porcetto (traditional Sardinian roast suckling pig), which we had to pre-order in advance, and it was simply outstanding. The culurgiones, handmade and filled with so much flavor, were incredible. The octopus was perfectly cooked, and the smoked kangaroo tartare was a surprising and delicious highlight. Everything, including the wine, was excellent. The atmosphere, attention to detail, and warm hospitality made it feel like a real trip back home for me. I can’t recommend this place highly enough - an absolute must-try if you’re in Brisbane!

Nice food, beautifully presented. Some misses, but overall great. Would absolutely come back. Took me by surprise as I had a few people previously report that the food was good, but not great. So I wasn’t expecting anything special but nah I reckon they just ordered the wrong things so I’ll tell you what I thought. - Foccacia w the bottarga dip, absolute yes. Very strong flavour, umami, one of the better bottarga dips/butters w bread that I’ve had. This is coming from someone who always has bottarga in her fridge ready to go. Must order. - Prawns, yes. Order this, we got multiple plates and immediately ordered more. From memory kinda pricey as it’s $15 each prawn or something like that but it’s worth it as it’s yummy - Oysters, nothing special. Skip! - Octopus! A highlight! So tender. Loved the potato foam under it. A true standout and imo must be ordered. - kangaroo tartare, Smokey but not much else. Erm can skip this one. It’s missing something extra to make it great. - Frattau (that thin layered looking thing): no. Very bland. A miss. We ordered 3 plates minimum of every dish and this one.. no one finished 😓 - Malloreddus (Pasta w sausage that looks like little worms): the waitress recommended this and wow it was beautiful! Pork and beef I believe. I loved this. Would go back to order it. - Culurgiones: sad, bland dumplings. It was a mistake to order 3 plates of this. Very mediocre. I much prefer the rosmarino ones. - Ron eye on the bone: nice but very fatty. They cooked it well though and it was tender, I wasn’t mad. Beefy flavour and umami was pretty decent for a MB4-5 grade. - potato as a side was ok. Can skip - would recommend the creamy leeks as a side to the steak, was noice. - would recommend the cocktails here, very nice. They had an excellent wine selection too. - no comment on desserts as I apparently over ordered for the table and no one could fit in dessert apparently. Sad. My verdict: I’d come back for sure. There’s plenty of options on the menu that I’d happily be back to order!
