The 13 Best Hotels in Amsterdam Offer a Chance at Canalside Living | Vogue

"A former biology university on the leafy edge of Oosterpark has been reborn as an 88-room sanctuary—an elegant, unhurried alternative that’s a 15-minute subway ride from the center. High-ceilinged rooms in soft, gauzy tones showcase artwork largely from the postwar Cobra movement, drawn from owner Alex Mulder’s private collection. Dining spans an all-day casual spot to a fine-dining room by rising chef Floris van Straalen; when evening falls, the 1920s-styled Fitz Bar hides an original Picasso. A private, guest-only salon called The Living serves complimentary treats and beverages throughout the day—the perfect place to read or answer emails." - Siobhan Reid

Pillows Grand Boutique Hotel Maurits at the Park (Amsterdam, North Holland) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Even in summer, there’s a crisp, collegiate, fall-is-in-the-air atmosphere at the Pillows Grand Boutique Hotel Maurits at the Park. It’s an impression that makes perfect sense when you learn that this luxury boutique hotel makes its home inside a restored university building that dates back to 1908. With its elegant brick facade, high-arching ceilings, and large windows overlooking Amsterdam’s leafy Oosterpark, it’s more like the movie version of academia, and its light-filled rooms, with bespoke beds, heated floors, and Diptyque bath products, are a far cry from a college dorm. The best suite even has a grand piano and a marble bathroom with a soaking tub. Complimentary snacks and drinks are available around the clock in the modern guest lounge, and a collection of restaurants and bars — including a chic brasserie and a roaring twenties-style cocktail lounge named after F. Scott Fitzgerald — add to the appeal." - Tablet Hotels

Fantastic stay. Definitely a 5star hidden gem in Amsterdam. The hotel staff were incredibly attentive and very knowledgeable about the city. The room was great and comfy. The location was great for us because we didn’t want to stay in the central location like 9 streets or very close to canal belt. It’s like 20-30 mins away from major tourist spots and the commute was easy through the tram and train.||Special shoutout to the concierge who knows everything about AMS and helped us planned the day. Highly recommend!

Just when I had lost hope in hotels, Alex Mulder hits it out of the park (no pun intended). It's a truly beautiful renovation--and the interior design and original artwork are out of this world. Given the number of hotels I've slept in over the past 4 years, it's not an understatement to say that he put great attention into wonderful pillows, sheets, towels and mattresses. The Spring Restaurant attached (for breakfast) is one of the best hotel breakfasts I've ever eaten in years--all artfully prepared and a la carte. The bar in the basement is a unique gem with lovely and engaging bartenders and apothecary drinks--it rivals the best from my hometown, New York City. I loved the products in the bathroom too, as well as the scent throughout the hotel. It's truly a work of art--and I tip my hat to Mr. Mulder's elegant and refined taste. He is a masterful showman. Freddy and I loved every single person we met, too. It felt like home.

Went to the hotel for a weekend. The overall experience was great, starting. Good check-in (thanks Maria!), pristine bedroom with a great bed, good Restaurant and good a la carte breakfast. Everyone I interacted with during this short weekend stay were very polite. Location is also a plus for me (nice neighborhood. One thing that really stood out for me was the lounge/sallon, such an elegant decoration!

One of my favorite hotels I’ve ever stayed in! From check in to check out- fabulous. All the staff- AMAZING. Beatriz at the front desk took amazing care of us. Everything we needed we got and then some. We were helped with transport, toothpaste, and were even given a hair straightener to use for the week. Housekeeping was such a treat and my room was cleaned multiple times with treats left every evening at turn down. The staff at the Spring Cafe are excellent and were super accommodating everytime we ate there. The food was also fabulous. The Fitz Bar was also fabulous. Drinks were so good and the staff there were so knowledgeable and attentive. The room was perfect with cozy bedding and all the amenities. The location is great- outside of the city center but walking distance to nearly everything. The place smells amazing too - I came home with several scent gifts for myself and others because it just smelled so good every time I walked in. I can’t wait to come back!

I had a wonderful stay at Pillows Maurits at the Park. The hotel felt fresh and peaceful, and the Diptyque amenities were a real treat. I especially loved the shampoo. Bea and Carles provided warm and attentive service that made my visit even better. Breakfast in Spring Café Brasserie was amazing, and Fitz’s was another highlight with excellent drinks and a great atmosphere. Highly recommended!

I love a nice hotel but Pillows was by far the best hotel I have stayed at. The remodeling of an old school into a modern hotel was stunning. The park location was quiet and relaxing. Original art works cover the public spaces and rooms. We loved the library with the honor bar. The rooms were comfortable, with the hotel inquiring if they could make our pillows more comfortable by exchanging them for new firmer or softer ones. Not to mention the chocolates, relaxing sprays and lotions on our pillows every night|My step daughter and I are bakers and were impressed by the welcome pastries, birthday cake (a chocolate mousse with gold sugar topping and fresh pink roses) and OJ ginger shots with breakfast.|The staff were so friendly and helpful. Stefan went out of his way to help me with train reservations while recommending history museums when I told him how much I loved history.|I did not want to leave the massage table but I had to as the masseuse had another client waiting.|We are planning another trip in the future to the other Pillows hotels in The Netherlands and Belgium.||A big thank you,|Janet and Heather

I visited the hotel for a special event. I arrived a bit early and waited in their brasserie for a drink. The staff were extremely polite and helpful, I was even offered a charger to borrow for my phone and received complimentary nuts with my drink. It’s the small details like these that make a difference. The food was excellent and beautifully prepared, and the service was very good, though my server missed me once while serving wine but that can happen. The location is both beautiful and convenient, with Bolt and Uber able to drop you off directly at the hotel’s private entrance. If you’re looking for a beautiful hotel with impeccable service, look no further.

One of the best hotels we have stayed in, the hotel is absolutely beautiful and the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. Big shout out to Koen on reception too! We were shown to a gorgeous lounge to check in with a glass of fizz, which was a lovely touch! Breakfast is delicious and we dined at the same restaurant for dinner twice because it was so good. We didn’t try the fine dining restaurant as it was open the days we were staying but it looked fabulous! The cocktail bar in the hotel is also a must try even if you aren’t staying at the hotel! Can’t wait to come back!
