Pilsner Urquell Brewery

Had a brilliant time visiting the Pilsner Urquell Brewery this morning as part of a group tour! Our guide was super friendly and incredibly informative, making the history and process really engaging. And of course, after lecturing was the beer offered and it tasted absolutely fantastic! Just a quick note: the souvenir shop was running a bit low on cash/change, but that certainly didn't dampen a great experience! Highly recommended for any beer lover.

Brewery tour was very average. Group size was way too big (30+) tour was listed as 110min but we were done in <90 min. One of the first stops is a random water tower, then it gets slightly better from there. Tour guide has memorized 1-2 tidbits for each stop we made, and didn’t have answers to a lot of questions. Highlight is the cellar which is massive and the unfiltered beer sample. Tour was not super engaging or interesting compared to any smaller brewery. I went to Duvel in Belgium and they were fantastic for the same price. If you’re considering making the trip down from Prague (3 hours of trains) - it’s almost not worth it. Disappointed because the Pilsner campus is really big and grand - they could do a better job in keeping the tours more informative and engaging!

A legendary brewery. The very place where the most produced and liked type of beer today was first invented and produced way back in the 19th century - The pale lager, or Pilsner (70% of today's world beer consumption is said to be based on the beer made right here). If you do like a beer, I highly recommend you walk through the historical gate and explore the courtyard of this unique place, even if you don't plan to take the guided tour. It's worth it and it makes me proud to be a Czech.

Me and my friends loved the experience! Not gonna publish more pictures so you get interested in coming ;). We had an amazing guide which made the experience even 10x better. We payed 16€ and it was really worth it. Highly recommend

What an unexpected joy it was to visit this brewery. The history, the brewing processes, the maze of underground tunnels, the informative, attentive and obliging guides (Thankyou Karin!). Even if you don't drink beer (heaven forbid!) you will enjoy exploring this brilliant Czech institution. Please stop at the onsite restaurant, not only is the food outstanding but is delivered to your table with style by very pleasant wait staff.

Awesome tour and worth making the trip to pilsen for this alone. Tl/dr on questions I had coming here - beer they give you is 0.3l (aka small) which is good (I was worried it was a large). Time in cellars is last 20 or so minutes. It does get to be chilly but I probably overdressed. Definitely need to buy tickets in advance as the tickets sell out/are popular Got to see traditional and modern brewing, bottling, maturation, and ice (which i havent seen elsewhere but makes sense from pre refrigeration days). Super cool Great tour guide and loved seeing both the modern and history behind the brewery. Excellent tour - one of best I've seen from any alcohol producer

It was a spontaneous tour in the Pilsner Urquell Brewery, but I was amazed of the installations and the processes. Very good guide, interest things and tasty beer.

You MUST do this tour if you are even remotely in the Pilsen area. I'd argue that it is worth a trip from Prague solely to come visit. I'm going to preface this by saying - I do not like beer. However, I found the tour educational and interesting. The tour guide was excellent. It was a decently large group (sold out in fact) but I didn't have any difficulty hearing or understanding her. (I did the English Tour). It was fascinating to learn not only about the history of Pilsner-Urquell but also Pilsen itself. During the tour you will receive a nice sized sample of unfiltered beer straight from the barrel. It was the best beer I have ever tasted in my life. If all beer tasted like that - I'd be a beer drinker! This was one of the most affordable admissions I paid and it was probably my favorite tour. Definitely recommend. I booked ahead by a few days. I went during the Liberation festivities so I was glad I booked online - the tour sold out. I also received a coupon for a free beer at a local pub or the brewery pub.

If you take a tour here, you'll get to see where and how Pilsners are made. To be honest, before coming here, I had no idea what a Pilsner was because I'm not a big beer drinker, but I knew what one was after leaving here. It's a hoppy-tasting beer enjoyed around the world made famous in the city of Plzeň. From the moment you step into the brewery, you're greeted with a sense of history and tradition that has been meticulously preserved. The guided tour is both informative and engaging, taking you through the brewery's origins and the meticulous brewing process. The highlight, of course, is the chance to sample the original Pilsner Urquell directly from the oak barrels in the cellars - a unique experience that truly sets this tour apart. The tour guides are knowledgeable and passionate, sharing fascinating stories about the brewery's rich history and its pivotal role in shaping the lager style of beer. The facilities are immaculate, and the blend of historic charm with modern efficiency is impressive. Now let's talk about the beer. Pilsner Urquell is simply divine. The crisp, refreshing taste of the lager is even more delightful when enjoyed on-site, paired with the beautiful setting of the brewery. Even though I'm not a beer drinker, I enjoyed my sample that came straight from the barrell, and everybody else on the tour said that a Pilsner in the Czech Republic tastes better than anywhere else. (I'll have to take their word for it.) There's a gift shop at the end of the tour, it's a little pricey, but I was able to snag a few magnets and a pair of socks for cheap. All in all, whether you're a beer aficionado or just looking for an interesting day out, Pilsner Urquell Brewery offers an unforgettable experience. Highly recommended for anyone visiting the Czech Republic!

This was a fun tour - one gets to see literally each stage of life of a Pilsner Urquell, from fermenting to bottling to the complimentary glass of it they give you. The cellar portion of the tour, the murky old tunnels with barrels galore, was my favourite. Though it was an inconvenience to go out of our way en route from Prague to Munich to do this, I'm glad we did. Excellent experience and memory.

Highly recommend this tour - it was extensive and about 2 hours long. Very well put together - lots of demonstrations, and even a walk through the bottling plant. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and well spoken.

Great brewery tour. This place was a main reason why we chose Czech as a vacation destination. English tour is available and it was about $10 per person including a glass of beer at the end of a tour. I originally thought 80 minutes of guided tour would be so long but this 80 minutes was so informative, it was over before we knew it. After learning their history and process, now I know she the original Pilsner is so tasty. We paid extra $2 for bottling tour. That was actually fun. Gift shop was a bit overpriced for what it was but I ended up buying a few things there. Credit card accepted.

Seeing the actual working brewhouse and bottling lines, touring the enormous underground cellars, and drinking unpasteurized unfiltered beer right at the source all make this a great brewery tour. The Pilsner Urquell people let you hear the bottles clanking together, also show you up close the mash tuns and brew kettles used for the triple mashing and hopping processes. This is not some fake brewery experience where you never get close to the works! However you don't see the barley malting area, barley grinders or filtering plant. Just remember this is now a huge industrial plant, there's not much left of the little citizens brewery from the 19th century. A few tips: you'll walk through some cold puddles so wear decent shoes, you'll be in the very cold cellars more than 20 minutes so dress for that, you can download an audio guide to your phone if you don't get a tour in your preferred language, and finally don't be surprised to find yourself spending money as you exit thru the gift shop lol. One more tip: if you need to change the time of your tour, you can do that in person at the visitor center *if* there is room in the tour you want. You cannot rebook online, which is dumb but there it is. Don't ask how many tours I bought just to make absolutely sure of a spot. The laughably short bus rides from the entrance to the bottling plant and back out again were kind of silly, I guess it's to make sure nobody strays off the safe path. My only complaint was that the free unfiltered unpasteurized beer is a small one, I wanted a full half liter plus more time to savor this incredibly rare treat. The birthday of Urquell beer is 5 October 1842. There's always a party the weekend closest to that date! I don't understand people who complain about the difficulty of getting to Plzeň. This is a pilgrimage! It takes some effort. I think it's worth it.

It was a very nice experience to see the Pilsner Urquell Brewery in person. In addition to the lovely old architecture of the building, it was great to have a cold Pilsner Urquell on draft, right at the source!

We rented a car from Prague and drove to try some local beer. Loved touring the local brewery! And buying some beer mug souvenirs.

I get offered drugs in the Czech Repuplic, often. I'm like Pills? Nah. Who doesn't love the Pilsner brewery? It has gotten so many people drunk so many times and some of my friends are absolutely in love with the products. I think they're just okay. However they are from the Czech Republic and they are legendary. To say the least. In fact probably the most famous export from the Czech Republic other than perhaps cool ass. I mean goulash, but that too. Silly voice dictation. No on second thoughts this is the most famous.

Whenever I go to a different country, I always love trying their beers and visiting their breweries. During my visit to Prague, my research showed me that Pilsner Urquell was a popular one. I'd had it a few times in the states before, so I was interested in learning more about the history and trying some brews during my trip. Here's the reason behind the two stars: Pros: 1. You get to see the bottling line in action 2. They take you through their cellars, which was pretty cool to see. It was my first experience in a beer cellar. Cons: 1. The brewery is DUMB far. If you do not have a car, there is no easy way to get there from Prague. My friend and I had not rented a car and figured out the public transportation but it was super inconvenient. We took an Uber to a train station that's 20 minutes outside of Prague, to hop on an hour-long bus that only comes at the top of each hour. If you miss the bus, then you're SOL because your ticket only works for the time that you purchased. Then, we walked about 10 minutes from the bus stop in Plzen to the brewery. 2. The tour is 120 minutes long. A bit too lengthy, IMO for a brewery tour. 3. You only get one tasting of the beer - which is fine, but the brewery doesn't even offer anything on tap, if you wanted to buy a drink while waiting for the tour to start. If you want to drink more beyond the tasting, you'd have to go to the restaurant across the street. This was probably one of the worst brewery tours I have been on in life. At least I was able to get a student discount on the ticket. You should definitely buy the tickets ahead of time online if you're planning to come (but I don't think you should - unless you have a car and have an ample amount of time to kill). Tip - there are free lockers by the entrance, but you'll want to keep your coats if you're visiting during the winter time - a lot of the tour requires going in and out of buildings.

Took the English speaking tour and had Daria as our tour guide. She speaks great English and does a nice job of explaining the many areas around the brewery. This is one of the more extensive brewery tours I have done. This one included walking through their bottling plant, fermentation, brewing, and barrel storage in the cellar. Neat experience to see all the steps of brewing from this 175 year old inventor of Pilsner beers and the final part going into the cellars and having unfiltered beer straight from the barrel was a neat experience. Well worth the $14 or so bucks it cost based on exchange rate for this 1hr and 40 minute tour. I recommend starting off at Na Splice, or finishing at their on-site restaurant that had fantastic food options and of course their beer. Again for a great price and not tourist trap pricing.

Great brewery tour. Learned a lot about their style of brewing and got to try a fresh unfiltered Pilsner right from the barrel. The guide was friendly and knowledgeable. The little cafe next door serves tasty fresh Urquell. Would have liked to stay for more than two!

I am not a beer lover, but I do love history so this tour has something for everyone. The beer lovers in our group enjoyed the education in beer making and the sample at the end of the tour. I loved hearing the history of the company and the evolution of beer making over the years. This is a win win kind of tour!

Tour was amazing and the girl who did the tour was awesome!!! She made the whole thing worth it and made it fun. However the old lady in the souvenir shop was less than pleasant and was rather rude when I asked to grab a different size of shirt. She was also making comments to the other cashier and laughing after hassling me about my request while I was still at the register. Maybe customer service isn't her strong suit and she would be better placed somewhere without customers.

Went on the tour... WOW WOW WOW!!! I loved it, went from top to bottom in the plant, From omg hot to see your breath cold. They group you by what you speak or understand. I was in a group of 30 people, the guide took her time, she answered all questions and I never felt rushed at all. Every one at the plant seemed to like doing their job, Pleasant and helpful.

If going on the historical underground tour get there 20 minutes early minimum. They'll give you a map that takes you on a ten minute walk across the river to get there. You may get lost so leave extra time to find your bearings. No refund if you're late.

We really enjoyed the brewery tour. Our guide was very friendly and a good professional. She very interestingly and in details told us about the history of the plant itself, described various processes of brewing. It was very interesting to visit the bottling plant and watch the working conveyors. Super informative! Also we got a huge bonus - there was a soup festival on the territory of brewery :)

Super informative and quite eye opening. They take you behind the scenes and into the cellars. You get to see it being packaged, and have answers to all your questions. Wouldn't take kids too small. Don't think they'd appreciate it, and isn't his friendly.

If you like tours this one is great but don't expect great food in the restaurant. Its not terrible but you can get much better in the center of Plzeň.
