Google
Golf course and clubhouse review only, did not stay here...Loved the course and the whole vibe here! People wanting more modern clubhouses and everything should stick to Streamsong and other such resorts. First off the course is amazing, great layout, the greens are fast and punishing. Best advice would be to know when the hole has beaten you and just hit a shot to get back into proper position, very hard to hold the greens from the bunkers or pine straw. The hut after hole 8 was good, but would love to see Transfusions or liquor added, even the Southern Pines transfusion in a can would be nice. Inside is cool and the pro shop is stocked, the bar area is awesome with lower bar stools on wheels so you can see out the window, great place to sit and review the day. Highly recommend and we will be back.

Played there over the Thanksgiving holiday. Thought the golf course was in excellent condition for late November. Donald Ross design. You can't go wrong.

This golf course is a championship level course which has hosted the US Women’s Open for example. It is a very difficult and challenging with elevation on every hole. Water on numerous holes. Greens are difficult also Course is in excellent condition. The staff served us well. Not cheap- we paid $205 during the week but we all enjoyed the experience very much.

There are many options when it comes to golf in Pinehurst, highly recommend setting aside time for a round at Pine Needles. Couldn’t have asked for a better time - course is fun, challenging, great condition across the board. Make sure to warm up your short game on The Loop as well! Enjoy.

Google
Pine Needles is truly an amazing course with carpet like fairways and rolling fast greens. I understand why the USGA has picked it multiple times for Women's US Open. The course was in excellent condition that offers any golfer a great challenge. Holes 4, 5, 10, 15 and 18 were absolutely gems.

Played rounds on Pine Needles and Mid-Pines the week of the US Open at nearby Pinehurst. We canceled Southern Pines, begrudgingly, so we could go to the US Open. Had a blast on both courses! This review is solely due to the help I needed after my trip. I dropped off my travel golf bag to be shipped out from Southern Dunes Golf Club. I messed up the protocol to print the label and drop my bag in the correct location before I got on my flight home. I figured the delivery service would slap a label on there for me when they picked up. I was wrong. I had to scramble and edit my info and request a new pickup time. Nick, in the Pine Needles pro shop, went above and beyond. He printed out a new label for me, made sure my bag got tagged up correctly, and then had the bag dropped off at the distribution location. Completely unexpected but so appreciated since it was my error in the first place. Thank you, Nick! Looking forward to returning soon to get that Southern Pines round in!

Google
First time playing here and I got lost at least 4 times due to NO signs anywhere on the course telling you where the next hole is. You'll finish a hole then there's a 3 way intersection and you're left to decide which way is the next hole. When you do figure out you're approaching the correct hole there are barely visible 3"x 9" signs indicating which hole you're on. Overall it slowed down play and made the experience insufferable. Course conditions were that of a $60 golf club. I paid over double that to play here. Only good thing about this place is the history behind it and the staff was friendly.

Google
Just moved to Pinehurst this year and I’ve been yearning to play this course. It did NOT disappoint. Weather was great for February (low 60s). Course was in great shape and the greens were perfect (and fast). Pine Needles should be part of every Pinehurst trip.

Yelp
I've been to Pinehurst several times over the years and was finally able to play this course with a group of 11 other guys over a long weekend. We were excited to play a course that was a classic Donald Ross design and host of the 122nd LPGA US Open won by Minjee Lee. An exceptional course in every way. The Fairways are plush with green grass. The greens were well manicured and cut nice and close to create fast conditions but not overly so. A challenging design with many of the green side and fairway bunkers Donald Ross is known for. A beautiful course with some exceptional views and an overall great golf experience. I've played over 100 courses from coast to coast and would place this in the top 5. I'm already thinking about planning my next trip to play this course again.

Yelp
Coolest bat/grill room overlooking the property. Cozy fireplaces. Fabulous burgers! Friendly service. Love the atmosphere. Very authentic Pinehurst!

Yelp
Recently played on a golf trip, and the overall experience was a good one. Fun but still challenging course, pace of play was much better than if you play the actual Pinehurst Resort courses. We arrived early enough for lunch - which took way too long to make it's way out, but, food was solid and our bartender/server was very friendly, funny and attentive. Would definitely play here again.

Yelp
Have been to Pine Needles many times. This time the USGA was holding the Women's Open there and it was so much fun! The course is in impeccable condition despite drought conditions. Shout out to Peggy Kirk Bell, a pioneer in Women's golf. Go Lexi!

Yelp
The boyfriend and I cycled over 30 miles from Fayetteville to Southern Pines and were about dead by the time we arrived. Or, I was dead; boyfriend just had a sore butt from cycling (the genius I am I had cycling shorts and a bike seat, but alas no stamina). We were so happy to be at Pine Needles Lodge - the place was adorable. We had a huge balcony, 1.5 bathrooms, shampoo, conditioner and lotion that smelled amazing, two beds, and the cushiest bedsheets and pillows. The bath was a godsend. We had dinner at the cozy restaurant bar downstairs (In the rough lounge) and sat in the corner overlooking the rest of the patrons. The only thing I remember getting is the mac and cheese and the fried pickles then I was full. Boyfriend was indulging in other foods and drinks. It was good food, but nothing especially stood out that I absolutely needed to come back for. Brunch was also in the main lodge, just past the restaurant bar (crest dining room). It was $12.95 a person and just fantastic. I drank so much juice, and went back to the breakfast buffet many times for muffins. There was an omelette bar, a cereal bar, granola bar, and was otherwise very fancy and cute. I'd love to be back!

Yelp
One of the best golf courses in the Pinehurst area and my personal favorite. Adequate practice facility & excellent Yamaha golf cars (but no golf club rain cover). The clubhouse is understated & comfortable. Food is good, staff is professional & attentive.

Yelp
The golf course was great. It was in very good shape and taken care of excellently. It is a very challenging course due to the greens all being 360 degree false front (Donald Ross design), so it is very hard to keep the ball on the green. I would highly recommend the course if you are looking for a challenging round. The lodge was very..."lodgy". The hallways were dank and dark, quite musty at times. The buildings were very old and in dire need of renovations. The restaurant and bar area seemed to be understaffed so service was a little slow for breakfast. The front desk concierge, Mike, was incredible and probably the lone bright spot of the accommodations. It's apparent that this place spends most of their money on their golf course, which is cool. I would recommend resting your head at night and eating somewhere else though.

Yelp
Fantastic golf course and a really nice bar for lunch and relaxing after the round. Highly recommend.

Eli J.

Yelp
Was an amazing golf course and really nice time other than the owners son yelling obscenities throughout the round and yelling at the other groups on the course.

Alexi A.

Yelp
Great staff at the resort and overall awesome course. Too bad owners son doesn't know how to respect their family's business. Kept yelling obscenities at folks enjoying their rounds as well as kept hitting into groups in front of them. Same thing happened at the Mid Pines across the street 2 days prior last weekend. What a shame.

Jared H.

Yelp
The course was fun and in great shape. The entire staff was great as well. There was a group of men that appeared to be in their 20's that were extremely loud and threatening other groups on the course. And telling groups in front and behind them, F$&@ you. They were also hitting into the group ahead of them. This same group of guys did the same thing at mid pines two days prior. The locals playing the course said it was very common for this group of friends to act this way. Turns out, it's the owners son.

Yelp
BRUTAL. Customer service was awful. The staff allowed out normal tee times then stacked their academy groups in front of the normal tee times. Starters didn't tell us this was happening, called the pro shop, they basically said deal with it. Waiting legitimately 30+ mins per joke behind these groups. Call ahead and confirm their academy is not going out, this is awful.

Yelp
The restaurant and bar at Pine Needles is very cute. Kind of reminds you of an upscale cigar bar, very comfortable and classically decorated. I ordered an hamburger with the standard French fries and it was fine. Noting spectacular but not disappointing either. This alone would earn a 3.5 stars however it is in the administration that this restaurant fails. In my party of 6, two customers substituted their fries for an alternate side ( Brussel sprouts and Mac n cheese). Upon ordering they were told there would be "up charge" to which they both agreed. To their surprise- the up charge is not an UP charge at all. It is $6- the cost of the side item!!! Addressing the waitress for what must be a mistake she informs us that you're basically paying for the side item- and not receiving the item you omitted (fries in this case). This is complete theft! You are literally paying for your meal, plus a side and only receiving 2/3's of what you've paid for. How is this right? Oh, and be prepared for the 20% service fee for parties 6 pax or more. I wouldn't have returned to this restaurant for the food anyway but it is the obvious overcharging of their patrons that motivated me to write on Yelp. Do not give this poor business practice your patronage.

Yelp
This lodge is beautifully set in a pine forest and makes for a pleasant getaway! The room we stayed in was fine, not extravagant or fancy. But we came to pine needles for the golf. The course was gorgeous even at the end of February bc they overseed, just stunning! It was off season for this area so it wasn't busy at all. We would love to visit this lodge again to play some golf.

Yelp
In a land of golf resorts, it doesn't get any better than this! My wife and I visited for 5 days in June 2016, stayed at the Eagle Lodge, and felt right at home. The room was fantastic and we were even greeted by a personalized note and bottle of wine by the GM (who is also a PGA Golf Pro!) to help us celebrate our occasion.

Yelp
So, I'm a hacker. Well, not a hacker exactly, but I don't play like I used to. I used to be a pretty good player and have been to a whole lot of golf courses, so I consider myself a pretty good judge of a quality course. But I also have a new appreciation of a course that offers a little open space. This place was really enjoyable. The service was great. I parked and put on sunscreen and before I knew it someone was there to whisk away my clubs. Similar efficiency when we were done. The course had been recently aerated which presents certain challenges, but I hardly minded. It's hard to judge the greens in that condition, but the course looked to be well tended overall. The fairways and roughs were well kept -- not too long or short and very few bare spots. I rarely ended up with a bad lie. The best part for me is that the course is fairly open. I was able to hit a lot of fairways and only lost one ball (mostly because I was too lazy to look for it). Two thumbs up! Can't comment on value since I didn't pay. Golf shoes were about a 15% markup, but I appreciated that they had my size in stock.

Yelp
Golf facilities and staff were GREAT. Staff members that's really had the southern hospitality charm were Sadie & Mary in the restaurant/bar, Tyler in the pro shop, Ron checking out carts, and Nick up at the front desk. Rooms are EXTREMELY dated /rough shape. The beds were AWFUL in "Eagle & Birdie Lodge". They were the cheap $100 feel every spring and movement from your partner lucky to get 3-4hrs of sleep kind of mattress. The pool and jacuzzi need a complete resurfacing because it was pretty gross. There's such potential with this place and its a shame the housing doesn't match the level of the golf course. In light conversation with other guests during our week stay they all agreed, the room/beds need improvement. If guests aren't getting good sleep or feel like they aren't in a clean room it really effects the overall experience. Hopefully they make some changes before hosting the 77th US woman's Open next year.

Yelp
Very, very disappointed. Especially since the atmosphere is lovely. Went there early on a Saturday night. People were coming in but there were still plenty of tables open. We sat near the fireplace and waited for someone to come over. My companion finally went to the desk and asked if there was a different procedure to be served. No, no was the response, someone will come over to you. Well, we gave it a good ten minutes, gave up and left. I don't think they even missed us. Is it not enough help? Not sure but I'm not going back.

Yelp
Great golf course, practice areas are awesome. Golf course is consistently top 15 in the state and has hosted multiple US women's open Onsite lodging is very adequate, not posh, but all you need for a golf trip. Nice bar area with pool table and ping pong downstairs. The lodging is a bargain, the golf is a bit pricey but the course merits a premium. service was good for our group.

Michael C.

Yelp
Love this golf course. The course is a Donald Ross design which like all his courses uses the natural contours of the land. The course was in super shape in mid-April with fast greens, wide well maintained fairways and well maintained bunkers. My only real complaint was the inconsistency in the sand quality among the bunkers. Pace of play was a wonderful 4 hours. A bit pricey at $200 + but well worth it.

Kim H.

Yelp
We stayed at Holly Villa at Mid Pines Golf Club but for some reason they have a policy where they share. We had our morning breakfast here and it a ok. The golf course though is why you are here. If you don't want to pay the $500 plus for Pinehurst #2 this place is great. Again not the most modern place but they have fitness place, houses and hotel area. The pro shop has a little game room with pool table, foos ball, and ping pong.

Jessica V.

Yelp
My sister and I went to Easter brunch today and the food was awesome, as usual. Staff was pleasant and attentive. Prime rib was done to perfection and of course the pecan pie was to die for.

Esther T.

Yelp
Great place, quaint rooms and cozy lodge. The breakfast was very good, staff is very friendly. We loved the golf course in spite of the rain.

JoAnn R.

Yelp
We had an excellent dinner tonite at the Dining Room at Pine Needles Resort. The menu has limited yet excellent choices. The entrees are reasonably priced and come with soup or salad. The Dining Room is in the lodge of the famous Pine Needles Golf Club which is owned and operated by the famous golfer Peggy Kirk Bell. We were hoping to see her at dinner (we've been told she often comes out to chat with guests) but we'll definitely be back to try again.

Elizabeth J.

Yelp
I brought some out of town guests to Pine Needles for a nice dinner in their dining room. My guests and I were thrilled with Chef Al's food and the great customer service we received! The next time I want a good meal, lunch or dinner, I will be returning to Pine Needles. Maybe next time we will get to see Mrs. Bell!!!!
