"This open-air, family-run gem has an old-school Hawaiiana feel, but takes a fresh, sustainable approach to sourcing its ingredients. Expect classics here with a local twist, like island-style onion soup topped with provolone and beer-battered jumbo shrimp with a dipping sauce of miso, ginger and Japanese Furikake seasoning. Aficionados of adult beverages may want to sample the Volcano Winery’s red blend or one of the state’s craft beers on draft, especially Pineapples’ private-label brew with—you guessed it!—the restaurant’s signature fruit in the mix. It also showcases local art and musicians, who play nightly from 6:30pm. Closed on Mondays."

Popular restaurant with great ambience. There was about a 45 minute wait for a table on a Thursday evening. There was live music, and the atmosphere was cheery and bustling. The appetizers came out quickly, and the entrees followed soon after. I watched as everyone else got their food and started eating while my steak was still being prepared. Since the restaurant was busy, our waitress didn’t check in on us much, and we were seated in a corner where we were pretty much out of view. By the time my group had almost finished their meals, my steak still hadn’t shown up. We managed to flag the waitress down, and she said she’d check on it. It came out shortly after, but unfortunately what was supposed to be a medium steak came well done. We flagged her down again, and by that point, we were pretty disappointed with both the service and how the steak turned out. The waitress felt bad about the whole situation, took the steak back, and offered a complimentary dessert, which she wrapped up for takeout since we had to head out.

Just wow! The food here is amazing! I might be back several more times over the next week while in Hilo. The coconut crusted fresh catch was delicious, best I’ve had. The grilled fresh catch sandwich was also delicious, especially the homemade tartar sauce. The Pineapple Pow is a must try cocktail, and you can get for kids without the “pow” (alcohol). We tried the triple lilikoi pie which was outstanding. Service was excellent too, but it’s a small place so it likely gets busy during peak times. Plenty to walk and see in the area while waiting for a table.

My husband and I ate here twice on our trip to the Big Island because we loved it so much the first time. We enjoyed all of our food and would have loved to have eaten every dinner here! The service was also great and the atmosphere very pleasant. We waited just a few minutes each time for a table, but under 10 for sure.

Google
Awesome happy hour! FYI you must be sitting in the bar area to participate in HH deals though. We got the fresh catch one time and came back for happy hour snacks and drinks and everything was delicious. Service was top-tier too, we were never left waiting. We highly recommend!

Google
The restaurant has a nice vibe and a cozy street-corner location, making it a pleasant spot to relax and enjoy a drink. However, the overall style feels more Americanized rather than truly local Hawaiian. We ordered the Mai Tai flight, which came beautifully presented but was a bit too sweet for our taste. The Hilo Local Plate had decent variety, but again, the flavors leaned quite sweet. The Coconut Ginger Mussels were also super sweet, and the portion was small and didn’t feel worth the price. Overall, we didn’t quite enjoy the food. If you want a more authentic local Hawaiian experience, there are better options nearby

Google
Great staff and service. Menu is diverse and all dishes are unique. My Caesar salad with chicken was good but nothing exceptional. The macadamia nut crusted chicken was spectacular how was incredibly salty along with the mashed potatoes. Overall, I would say I recommend stopping by and perhaps making a reservation beforehand since this place is quite popular.

Cas was amazing! She was friendly and made our time fly by! We tried the Poke Tower, Nachos and fresh fish sandwhich. Everything was amazing and fresh! We cant recommend this place enough. The live music was also a plus! 10/10

Google
Loved this place! My wife and I split a fish and chips and it was delicious. I had a local beer. We accidentally left our shopping packages there and called them. They had them until we returned. That was very much appreciated! I would recommend this place for any traveler, local or visitor. I think next time I'm having that pineapple with the Hawaiian moonshine!

Yelp
Sat at the bar, service was outstanding!! Burger/ fries- burger way over cooked, fries undercooked. Fish/ chips- fish was excellent! Fries undercooked. (Seems like a theme). Calamari app was outstanding! Love the staff. We shall return.

Yelp
Great drinks, warm service, tasty food, and good vibes on a busy Friday evening. (reservation recommended!) Fun open air bar and patio with live music and a broad menu with a little something for everyone. The pina colada sampler flight was a hit. The teriyaki steak got good reviews. Nachos w pork was a large portion and what you'd expect. My catch of the day (Ahi) panko style was tasty (though, a bit over fried for my preference). The dynamite fish bowl got mixed reviews - it was way over sauced (basically a soup). Definitely recommend stopping by, despite a few nit picks we had a solid experience.

Yelp
On the corner, close to the Hilo Farmer's Market, it stood out to everyone to eat here. It looked popular and inviting so came here for lunch. This restaurant is open and airy from the moment you see it. You know it is going to be about the ambiance and drinks more than the food. You can feel the ocean breeze which was great. The service was friendly but a bit overwhelmed. It took time for the server to check in on the table/ order/ etc. I really enjoyed the Big Island Punch. My friends enjoyed the Pin-No-colada in a pineapple. There was a lot of pineapply left as the cup so they got additional pineapple that everyone left behind. I had the chicken sandwich which was good. The others' food was solid. It was suspected but hit the spot. The price was about $30 per people with a couple of non-alcoholic drinks with tip. Overall, come here for the ambiance and drinks but get a solid meal as well.

Yelp
Five stars for the pineapple juice and service we received here BUT the food was disgusting. I'm unsure how the food has 5 stars when it tastes like it could have came from Red Robin or Chili's I feel like they need better quality food to match everything else that was cool there. I'm unsure if it's just the island not having great food but this establishment could definitely do better with their food overall.

Yelp
We loved Pineapples! We were a bit sad at first because the reason I picked this restaurant is because online on their menu, etc it says they use Maui Gold pineapples but they don't that anymore. I assume because they're more expensive but my husband was looking for a Maui Gold pineapple through our entire trip & couldn't find one so that was sad. We didn't wait at all even though the restaurant was super busy. We sat at a high top in the bar. Ordered the Pineapple Pow which is very fun drink served in a Dole pineapple. It had pineapple, watermelon & orange flavor. For entrees my husband got one of the fish dishes and I went for the lava burger. Good flavor, well cooked & every sauce I tried here was absolutely delicious. The lilikoi jalapeño bbq sauce was so good - sweet, a little spicy, and with a lot of flavor. We ended up getting a free dessert because the kitchen was extremely backed up, we didn't complain & weren't in a hurry. The waitress checked in on us many times & continuously apologized even though we said it was totally not a big deal - she was spectacular and brought us the lilikoi pie for free. Not something I normally would've tried but I would HIGHLYYYY recommend it. It was lovely and creamy with a mild sweet flavor. Delicious. We will definitely come back here if we ever find ourselves in Hilo again.

Yelp
Margaritaville - Jimmy Buffet. A breezy local vibe with great food, awesome drinks and very good service, in the heart of Hilo, just a few steps away from the Hilo's Farmer's Market. We loved it here we ate here two days in a row! Came back mainly for the drinks and the Furikake Shrimp appetizer ($16). Furikake Shrimp Appetizer $16 - four pieces of very large shrimp perfectly breaded, deep fried, and sprinkled with furikake, served on a bed of shredded cabbage and a super yummy miso sesame vinaigrette. I asked for extra sauce on day 2 and poured it all over the cabbage and ate that like a mini-salad. The shrimps tasted like mini-lobsters. So good. Portabello Mushroom Burger $18 - a towering burger of fresh veggies, cheese, and juicy portabello served with large cut fries. It was so big that I took the other half to go. Kalua pork Burger $18 - loaded with K-pig. Husband loved it. He ate it all, so no leftovers for him! The DRINKS: Fabulous!! Margarita Samplers $16 - you can mix and match your own. I created a mix of Lychee, Cherry, Hibiscus Lavendar and Coconut. Favorite was the Lychee, hands down. Sizes look large in all the Yelp photos, but the size is about 4 ounces each. Buzz factor 1.5/5 Pele's Hot and Spicy Margarita $13 - it was not that spicy, but flavored just right, with fresh jalapenos added in for a nice touch. It was served in a large glass, which was a good value, because on Oahu you get half the size for more. It was garnished fabulously on the second day with a mini umbrella by our hostess and bartender, Hannah!!! Buzz factor 2/5 but refreshing. Ordered it two days in a row. Overboard IPA $8 - one of husband's favorite. A nice pour. Service: both days were fabulous but a shout out to Hannah who was at the bar mainly. She seated us promptly, greeted us, got our drinks and food out in a flash, all with a smile. She made our second day to Pineapple's extra special. Return factor: 110%. If this place was on Oahu, we'd be in trouble because we'd go all the time.

Yelp
This was one of my favorite restaurants we ate at while visiting the Big Island. It's a really awesome open air restaurant and they had live music. We didn't have a reservation and we decided to eat at the bar because there was no wait. They've first thing that caught my eye was their signature pineapple drink. This is a must. It's beautiful and fun to look at but also tastes amazing. They have really fun flights here too. I highly recommend the Hurricane shrimp appetizer. The shrimp were monstrous. They were cooked perfectly and delicious! My husband and I both got the coconut crusted fresh catch, which was Ahi for us that day. Absolutely to die for. Everything was just so good. Make sure you save room for dessert because you're going to want to try their Haupia Dream which is the most delicious coconut dessert. I would 100% go back next time I'm in the area. Don't miss out on this fantastic restaurant.

Yelp
Super cuter exterior, very inviting. We got seated right away. Super friendly staff, we sat at the bar eventually because no one came to our table, but that's okay. The French onion soup was one of the best I've ever had. The Mai Tai was nice and strong and tasty...and yummy. So yummy, you could easily suck them down. We ordered fish and chips and the pineapple burger. You know when you go thru drive-thru or order fries and there isn't enough salt, and how disappointing that is, it won't happen here. The fries were perfect, oh so perfect...so gooood! The fish n chips were the best I've ever had. The batter was decadent with fresh oil that you just wanted to savor. It was almost like sushi on steroids; hot, fried steroids...fricken bomb! The burger was good but not as good as my fish n chips, but still good. There was live music, always a plus.

Yelp
Ambience 4; Vibe 4; food 3, maybe 3.5. Cute restaurant in Hilo. We stopped here for dinner on our way to volcano. They have a bunch of fun cocktails. We got the pineapple mojito and my partner got the 'flight' of mules, with a different flavor in each one: mango, lychee, hibiscus, lilikoi. We split the fish bowl with the catch of the day, Ono, and a mushroom appetizer. The mushrooms were underwhelming. The fish dish was better. There was a musician singing and playing guitar, super fun!

Yelp
The experience at the host stand was weird- we walked up as a party of 3 and there were also 3 employees at the host stand talking to each other. We waited about 5 minutes chatting amongst ourselves before one of them acknowledged us, but she looked right past me (even though I was standing in front of our party closest to her and the stand) and instead addressed my husband standing behind me asking how many in our party. Felt dismissive and set a poor tone at the beginning. Anyways, our server was great and made awesome suggestions. We got two flights of piña coladas and margaritas in fun flavors. Food was good and wow- generous portions. We'll be back again and hopefully avoid this awkwardness being seated in the future- everyone in a party deserves to feel welcomed.

Yelp
Wonderful lunch at Pineapples! We sat at the bar and had delicious drinks. The pineapple mojito and piña colada were fantastic. My dad even said it was the best piña colada he's ever had!! The pumpkin curry dish was absolutely amazing, and the dynamite fish bowl and coconut ginger mussels looked great as well. Highly recommend stopping here!!

Yelp
Okay- so the catch of the day really threw me off because I really wanted a fish sandwich and instead I got an ahi sandwich since that was the catch fish of the day. Not the servers fault but I didn't expect a tuna sandwich. That really didn't hit the spot. But she was nice enough to switch it out to fish and chips for me. We got the pineapple drink( whole pineapple) with coconut flavor inside. We were just Stopping into town for a bite before heading back to Kona side. Server 3/5 Food 3/5

Yelp
This place has great service, food fresh, and a place I would highly recommend. I had the pork sandwiches...it was moist and tasty. Had to finish it off with the delicious brownie topped with vanilla ice cream.

Yelp
We arrived at 9:10 PM and they close at 9:30 PM. Sometimes you don't get great service when a place is trying to close down. Nicole was our server and she was wonderful. Fantastic service!! She really took good care of us even with things starting to be cleaned up. The presentation of the food was amazing!! Everything looked fresh and delicious. They didn't seem to skimp on anything even though they were closing. The food tasted just as good as it looked. We would definitely return here to try different dishes. It was a great little outdoor restaurant with top notch service and food. We really enjoyed our dining experience there. I huge thanks for great service and food!!!

Yelp
Hmm.. music was nice. Service was v slow initially. Fish & chips was ok. Portobello mushroom burger was over cooked. Kalbi was kinda burnt, had tendons and too salty, mango salsa was spicy, kahlua pork was drenched in tomato sauce (not sure why??), I liked the Cole slaw (refreshing and tasty), and jasmine rice had some cream dressing on it (not sure why??) Unfortunately, not a place we would go again.

Yelp
The first official Hawaiian food place we tried on our cruise to the Islands... it ruined all other food for us! All we can do is talk about Pineapples, the food, the service, and experience! It was hands down the best food we had in the days cruising around the different ports. My husband said his Fish and Chips, were the best he had eaten in his entire life. And the Hilo Local plate... unreal! And of course, the Pineapple drink itself! We are telling everyone in the cruise pages that are going to Hilo, to eat at Pineapples!
google avatar

Paul D.

Yelp
One of the best meals we had during our weeklong trip on the entire island. The place has a great vibe with a completely open-air setting and a lively atmosphere. The service is prompt, friendly, and efficient. The menu is -- like everything in Hawaii -- a bit expensive, but nothing beyond the ordinary. They allowed my young teen to order off of the keiki menu, which is always appreciated. The fruity pineapple drink is fantastic and presents beautifully. I had the catch of the day (ono) sandwich with the housemade cole slaw and it was delicious!
google avatar

Denise S.

Yelp
Oh my word!! The best fish and chips ever!! Get the sweet potato fries over the steak fries. The Ono fish was moist, tender and so delicious!! The Cole slaw was really unique and tasty. Poke salad fresh and yummy. Had a wonderful Mai Tai as well, friendly staff, fun atmosphere, nice open air seating.
google avatar

Lisa K.

Yelp
Our waitress was amazing--she suggested dishes and she was spot on. Had the Hawaiian BBQ and ribs--both were huge plates of food and delicious. Great mai tai, and I took a piece of the coconut cream bar to go. Yum! So glad that we stopped for dinner at Pineapples!
google avatar

Yelp
A very nice spot to have a lunch in an indoor-outdoor setting right in the middle of downtown Hilo! The drinks are the star. Get the Pineapple POW (with or without alcohol) inside a hollowed out pineapple for your instagram pic. For appetizer, the teriyaki flank steak is amazing, but avoid the nachos. The cheese had coagulated at the top by the time it reached our table. For entrees, get the pulled pork burger with pineapple BBQ sauce if it's available (was a special). It is hugely delicious and very messy. The coconut-crusted fish was very heavily crusted but the fish was good. The Jamaican jerk chicken wrap was also very good. Servers are very nice. Parking can be a bit of a challenge so maybe drop someone off to get a table then find a parking place.
google avatar

Sara K.

Yelp
Casual restaurant in Hilo. Average mai tai but the POW cocktail inside a pineapple was the perfect tropical treat! The nut crusted fish was good and the fish tacos were also good. Very busy but still had good service at the bar.
google avatar

April F.

Yelp
Amazing food and atmosphere! Highly recommend! Service was attentive and of course it is Hawaii so there is that! The restaurant like so many is an Open air concept with nothing but a roof , no windows so you feel the fresh ocean air which is only blocks away! The pineapple drink was first of all... cool and creative along with delicious! It is a must go to on your Hawaiian vacation!
google avatar

Yelp
Came here twice during our stay, on the recommendation of my "Hawaii the Big Island Revealed" book. Both my husband and I really loved it here. Open air seating - breezy aloha vibes - yes! The waiters were some of the most friendly waiters I've experienced. The food was delicious. I got marlin fish tacos and they were cooked to perfection, crispy outside, perfect inside - not overdone or anything. The chips were like steak fries - also cooked perfectly, not underdone. The drinks were also outstanding - they have a great selection of drinks both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. Will be back!
google avatar

MaKayla G.

Yelp
The restaurant was a vibe. All the windows were open and there was a live band that played very softly it was enjoyable. The service was amazingggggg! I cannot remember my server's name but she was phenomenal I will update when I find her name! (She is in the video handing us the birthday dessert) The food was tasty! For the appetizer we got the pork nachos - not pictured but it was delicious! The Mai tai was yummy! The meat was flavored! My only complaint was it was pretty fatty! My second rib had only a little bit of meat on it. Other than that great time!
google avatar

Tim B.

Yelp
I found this place while visiting Hilo, and I must say that the experience was great! The food was outstanding, and the mai tai served in the pineapple was delicious! I sat at the bar both times I went. Jontae was super kind. If you ever visit the big island of Hawaii and are in Hilo, check out Pineapples!
google avatar

Yelp
This place is great. I loved all the food and how it tasted came out well presented and very flavorful when I asked my wife what her favorite places she always says pineapples. Also, a lot of my friends were talking about this place when they knew I was on Hilo. The service is quick and friendly. The only problem I have is that they did not have a Wi-Fi code for customers, which is simple and inexpensive. The ambience is a bustling restaurant. You're kind of close together, but it's Hawaii and on the big island and it's a great place to come eat my niece doesn't like anything here so we had to go and get a burger down the street but the place is clean and friendly. This host is really friendly and very nice. I'm just flabbergasted by not having a Wi-Fi in 2025 for customers on the Big Island.

Yelp
I can't describe enough how much we love this restaurant! On that day we drove all the way from Kona to Hilo and visited many spots along the way. We were exhausted and hungry but many places closed before 8 pm. We walked into this place with low expectations but it turned out to be a great surprise! First of all, the food here is huge portion, cheap, and also delicious! You can tell their signature pineapple drink was made from real fresh pineapple fruit chunks, and served with nice presentation. We ordered "Hilo local plate" only $19, and the huge plate came with three thick Korean beef ribs and two huge chucks of pork, and rice ball covered with some kind of cream. And most unbelievable thing was, the vegetables in this plate tasted so flavorful unlike most western salads; we also ordered coconut ginger mussels only $21 but we found 10 mussels in that plate I'll recommend this restaurant to all my friends who are gonna visit Hawaii. On top of that, all the waiters and waitresses are patient and friendly. There was a young lady who wasn't serving our table, but still came over and made sure we were happy with the food and service when we were about to leave. And ample street parking too!

Yelp
I experienced the worst customer service EVER while trying pineapples for the first time -5/5. Let me start by saying I'm a Hilo native, now living in Seattle. While visiting family, I took our party of 8 here for dinner. We were seated right away but didn't see a server again for another 10 minutes. When someone finally came by, they introduced themselves, and as soon as I opened my mouth she put her hand up and said "Im not ready yet" in the rudest tone possible, and walked away. If not for my mother, I would have walked my family out right away. I then watched as she helped other parties seated after us, even seeing them receive their food before our order was taken. When she finally came back to take our order. We waited nearly 45 minutes before our food came out, and it came out in waves, some didn't receive their food till others were half done with their meal. One of our appetisers never showed up and we had finished eating, when I told the waitress to cancel it, she refused and said it's already been put in. I couldn't believe the audacity, I had to explain to her that we were done eating and the app never arrived, she then said she'd see what she could do and disappeared for another 30 minutes (this whole time we are done eating.) I finally got up and walked to the back and spoke with another waitress who was so nice and apologetic. She got us our bill which I promply paid and left. In total we spent 2+ hours here, and only about 30-45 minutes of that was spent eating and drinking. The rest was spent waiting. Never again will I come here. The older woman we got stuck with needs to be retrained. As far as food and ambiance. The ambiance was great, and open air restaurant with live music 5/5. Food wasnt anything special. It all tasted like it had been sitting for a long time. My other family members said that it used to be better so I'm not sure if it's gone down hill or it was just an off night 2.3/5. But all of it was overshadowed by the horrible service.

Tim C.

Yelp
Great food, fantastic drinks and amazing food. The service is superb. The drinks, the food, just magnificent!

Yelp
Stumbled on Pineapples after dark while wandering the streets of Hilo, HI. No reservations, but still got seated in about 15min. Cute open aired spot with live music every night. Tonight there were 2 seasoned gentlemen on acoustic guitars sounding good. We ordered adult beverages; I recommend the cocktail sampler. Went with the mojito theme and chose pineapple, coconut, hibiscus, and lilikoi. Served in rock glasses with slices of lime and pineapple, all 4 were delicious. Our group chose one of the daily specials, a patty-melt dip with Maui onion jus, Ahi pumpkin curry, and a curry chicken wrap with sweet potato fries. Entrees were yummy, and portions were generous. The wrap could have used a touch more curry spice. Don't leave without trying the Haupia Dream dessert...coconut cream on a shortbread crust topped with toasted coconut and crushed macadamia nuts.

Yelp
My in-laws had been here to eat last time they visited the big island, and they were quite emphatic about eating here again. It was a busy Thursday evening, so we host asked if we were alright with two tables of two each, which were next to one another, rather than wait for a larger table for all four of us. That option worked okay, but we maybe should've chosen to wait. We weren't able to converse hardly at all because of the live performer's music speaker being right next to us... it was quite loud. (I'm not sure if live music is common there, but that combined with the noisy bar patrons behind us and all the TVs playing made for a pretty distracting environment and not as enjoyable as it could be, in my opinion.) The menu had many tasty looking options and I was still quite full from our previous meal that day. I'd actually planned to just get dessert, but I didn't see any desserts on the menu... so my husband and I decided to share a plate. Awkwardly this was not timed alongside his parents' meals, so they were served before us and had actually finished their plates before we even got ours... Though, to be fair, my in-laws eat like vacuum cleaners.) But we really enjoyed the taste of ours once it did arrive! Then after we ate, they asked if we wanted dessert... and I was exasperated because I had no room left in my tummy, when I'd wanted dessert in the first place! :( I did get a pineapple mint julep, which sadly was sooo heavy on the mint I couldn't taste the pineapple... It actually sorta tasted like drinking toothpaste... The waiter was a good-humored guy (I say this because I teased him for spilling an entire glass of water on my father-in-law, LOL.). Bathroom was just fine. Parking is a smidge challenging just because you have to grab a parallel spot along the road nearby, as the establishment doesn't have its own parking. I did like that the place was open-air, rather than enclosed inside.

Yelp
This place is amazing ! We were a big group so it's always tough to find a restaurant where everyone agrees. But every one in the group got something different and it was all delicious !! We ordered the mushrooms for appetizers.

Yelp
We stopped by Pineapples Island Fresh Cuisine in Hilo for dinner on our way back from Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Awesome patio seating, great service, amazing food, and very reasonable pricing. This was probably my favorite dinner spot during our week on the Big Island! They only have street parking, but there seemed to be plenty of parking in the vicinity when we went. The restaurant isn't very large, so expect to wait for your seat. We arrived at 4:30pm on a Tuesday and they still had a 20 minute wait! We hopped over across the street during our wait to Wilson's shaved ice, which has amazing shaved ice but unfortunately closes at 5pm.

Angela J.

Yelp
This place was very nice! The vibes were very nice and food was delicious. There are a variety of different cuisines, and we got burgers, fish, shrimp, pasta , and a giant pineapple drink! The staff here was very nice and welcoming! Really recommend!

Yelp
Every time I visit Hilo, I try to stop by Pineapples. The atmosphere is always inviting, and the food never disappoints. I usually go for the Hilo Local Plate--the Kalbi ribs and BBQ pork are consistently tender and packed with flavor. My buddies like their Mai Tai flight; it's the perfect way to unwind while enjoying the live music. I always hope to see Aunty Ro - she got da musical skills! The outdoor seating is a great touch, especially when the weather is nice. The service is friendly and quick, which keeps me coming back. If you're in Hilo, don't miss out on this place! I'll definitely be back on my next trip!

I ordered the Hilo plate. Beef short ribs. It was tough, and the cut was NOT up to my standards. I could buy beef short ribs at the local supermarket with a better quality cut. The teriyaki sauce was good, but the tough meat turned me off.

Yelp
If you want to eat at Pineapples it's probably best to have a reservation but even with one you may have to wait 15-20 minutes as well. The first attempt to dine here we did not have a reservation and we were put on a waiting list and we were told it would be about a 30 to 45 minute wait that ended up turning into one and a half hours when they phoned us, but by then we went over to another restaurant to dine in. Definite must tries here is their Volcano shrimp and a flight of mai tais. The service was great and the atmosphere was louder as its an open air restaurant, they had nice music playing. I ordered the flight of Mai Tais that were very pretty and tasted very good. My favorite was the coconut, followed by the likikoi passionfruit, guava, and last pineapple. For an appetizer, my husband and I shared the volcano shrimp which was absolutely amazing. You get four large jumbo shrimp that are battered in furikake and I believe macadamia nuts. These were excellent. For dinner, I enjoyed the Hilo local plate which consisted of ribs, pork, rice with a topping of white wine butter, slaw, and pineapple salsa. My dish was very flavorful. I was not a fan of the ribs just because it's difficult to eat and very small bites of meat on the bone. The pork bites were excellent and tender with a nice tangy sauce. The rice was amazing with that white wine butter sauce drizzled on top. The flavors that threw me off on this dish were the pineapple salsa along with the slaw. I feel they were too many flavors there that didn't mesh well together on the pallet. It was interesting though. Definitely give pineapples a try! That rice and shrimp were top notch! Yum!

Yelp
This place was such a fun spot for food, cocktails and music. We loved the poke tower and the shrimp appetizer. The pina colada was SO delicious. Our server was very nice as well.

Yelp
We got there with a group of 11 people so we knew it would be hard to find seating for all of us, but they said that they would put the table together and I let them know that it was okay if we sat separately as well so we could avoid the weight, but we were quoted 20 to 30 minutes. We noticed that happy hour was from 3 to 6 PM at the bar for adults only so a few of us opted to do that while the kids sat at the bench since it is all sort of outdoor seating and we could all see each other. The happy hour pricing was exceptional. The drinks were very strong yet delicious and they were only $7.50 and most of the appetizers were five dollars and they were a good size. I honestly really wanted toeat without my family and get drunk for cheap at the bar. The drinks were super delicious and we ended up getting jalapeño poppers which my brother didn't even leave me any for me to take a picture and my mom took the Kalua pork nachos from me because they were good. The server told us that we couldn't take the food from the bar or from the happy hour drinks back to the table so we had to finish them at the bar. My family and I ended up leaving a little over an hour to be seated so as a form of an apology, they offered us two free desserts. That was very nice of them to do. We ended up having two tables so the adults sat at one table, and the children sat at the other table , we had our orders ready since we had plenty of time to look at the menu. Everyone enjoyed their plate and said it was very flavorful. The customer service was beyond amazing and they even sung happy birthday to my cousin. We all enjoyed the experience. It was very fun and the weather was perfect. It was also very close to everything in Hilo with plenty of free parking.

Yelp
One of my favorite spots when visiting Hilo. The food and service is always on point. I really enjoyed the 'Local Plate'.

Yelp
This place was packed the two times we walked by...so of course we had to stop by and try it ourselves. Ambience is great - live music, outdoor section that's covered, and lively conversations! I know the pineapple no-pow kinda feels touristy but I had to get it anyways. Gotta say, every refreshing and the fresh fruit was a nice touch. Good for consuming with your meal! Seafood pasta - all around tasty. Seafood was fresh - I really liked the shrimp! Pasta was well made and the sauce didn't feel too heavy! Service was very friendly from start to finish, and pricing was very reasonable for the portions! Would come back sometime :) PROS: - great ambiance; live music and outdoor section - good amount of menu and drink options - very friendly service - drink was refreshing, seafood pasta was well portioned and delicious - very reasonable prices CONS: - can get busy all thru the day, get on the waitlist early!

Yelp
This was our second visit to Pineapples Island and it was just as good as the first! This time I had the Poke Tower and it was delish...I did wish the serving size was a little bigger, but that's a me issue. We had wonderful service and love the vibe!

Yelp
A wonderful Hawaiian dining experience with our friendly server Jess! The live music made our evening extra special and the food was all great! Great ambiance! The teriyaki flank steak was tender, a combination of garlic and pineapple flavors that wowed the palate! The pineapple burger was a 9/10 because the burger was great, the onion rings we could pass on. Tweaking sauce was a delightful addition to the burger! The hilo loco plate, the pork was tender and there was so much food! The kids kids portions were pretty small and the kids were still hungry but likes their meals, the butter pasta marinara and pesto were a hit! Street parking was easy with no wait for 8, but 10 minutes later there was a long line Get the mai tai flight!!! We will be back! Thanks for a great evening!

Yelp
The Hawiian Onion soup is French Onion Soup. However, it is unbelievably salty. The Poke tower was good. However, the Cabbage garnish underneath it really takes away from the dish as it gets all in the tower. I would have preferred the rice to have been cold not warm. But a lot of places serve rice warm with poke. I get that. Most towers are served cold. Service was beyond horrible. I mean the worst. I was seated on the sidewalk and it took someone forever to take my order. I was brought food by somebody from the kitchen. I never saw a waiter or waitress again. Never was checked on a single time. I left $40 on the table because I didn't want to wait for change. So, someone got a$10 tip that they in ni way deserved. Pathetic service is an understatement! The host that seated me was the only person that was ok. Food 2.5 stars. Service 0

Yelp
The atmosphere was decent, and the service was okay. However, the waitress's recommendations regarding the food were highly misleading. The food lacked any flavor--we tried the fish tacos, wings, and nachos, and all were atrocious. I am very thankful I did not have to pay. A friend from the area had recommended another establishment that we stopped at first, and I'm livid that we didn't stay there. We decided to come here after seeing the 4.7 rating from over 4,700 reviews and hearing positive comments from some people we met earlier at Pololū Lookout and the Hawaiian Botanical Gardens. Unfortunately, the reviews that couple were misleading. How do you have negative taste?

Yelp
A wonderful find in Hilo! Well cooked, fresh fish; we loved the daiquiri flight (my husband and I each had different favorite flavors, which was ideal!); and great service. I liked the touches of fresh flowers, live music, and the big open lanai. It was just what we were looking for on the last night of our Hawaii trip! I'd definitely return next time I'm on the Big Island.

Yelp
Thank you Pineapple crew Mike and Donna for a wonderful Hilo dining experience! The corner location with local music that can be heard as you walk up makes you want to go in and enjoy yourself. The food, staff, music and Hilo vibe was spot on! Aloha

Yelp
Drinks were great food wasn't . This is my second time giving it a chance and it still was subpar Service was hit and miss. The host was amazing and accommodated us as best as she could (considering the small space for happy hour @ the bar Prices don't translate to quality for sure regardless of which menu you order from food wise However, this one server was rude both times I came . Rude demeanor and tone. Today she was wearing a small black dress and has braids with a claw clip i believe. I came by myself the first time and even after the second time I brought along my friends and without mentioning anything besides the great live music and great drinks they also noticed this attitude. Not planning on returning.

Yelp
Our food was yummy. - I had the poke tower- amazing. And husband had the pulled pork sandwich- also delicious! I want to thank our server who was so kind- (I'm sorry that I don't remember her name). She helped my husband with his food - he has Parkinson's. So patient and very attentive to our needs. Also didn't have to wait at all to get a table. Highly recommend- if you are in Hilo.
