What a wonderful cafe! As a gluten-free girl, I was shocked to find a stuffed GF waffle on the menu - in Nome especially! It was made to order, and was well worth the wait. Perfectly crispy on the outside. It was so good, I came back another time during my stay to eat it again! This place is a gem. Highly recommend! Esp for the GF folks out there. Budget for some time as they make everything to order!

Pingo is such a unique little eatery. Cozy atmosphere with a great cup of coffee (or a selection of teas). The food is absolutely delicious with a selection and quality that is unmatched. The halibut stuffed waffle is my absolute favorite.

Google
Super popular with locals and tourists alike! We got some pastries to go and they were delicious - freshly baked and with a taste of home (taste of Nome?). Although they were packed, the lovely staff took care of us promptly.

Google
What a fun bakery and breakfast place! I got coffee and a raisin cinnamon roll. It was very filling. Not so many tables, and you make friends and sit where there is an open seat! edit.. still delicious!! lol

Google
What a wonderful place. The service was very pleasant and felt like you stopped by a familys home for lunch or breakfast. We flew in and rushed to get checked into hotel to get to restaurant by 2 because they closed at 3. We were never rushed and stayed till 315 or so and never made to feel like we needed to leave. Thank you so much for the great service and meal!

Google
As soon as I walked into Pingos it was magical. I was welcomed in by the smell of fresh cinnamon rolls cooling a few feet away from the entrance. The hardest choice that morning was choosing which pastry to pair with my coffee. I opted for the cream cheese danish and took a chocolate filled croissant to go, both were delicious! The owner was so sweet and was easy to talk to. The only regret I have is not going sooner.

Google
There are not enough stars on the internet to express how amazing this place is. Traveled all over the world, but this is my bistro-home...at the end of the world. Love and miss you guys. 🙌👌

Google
A diamond in the rough... the food is beyond amazing... the cinnamon rolls are HUUUUUUUUUGE and to die for... chocolate chips are fabulous. Crab pizza is yummy.

Yelp
Best meal I've had since moving to Nome. Everything we ordered was delicious and had a healthy twist to it. The place is small and only has three tables but the wait is worth it. Lots of people come in just for pastries and leave. Super cute and cozy. Can't wait to be back in the future.

Yelp
This is definitely a yes. The food is always so fresh and good. I get the salmon spinach and cream cheese croissants delicious if you want a larger order, you are easily accommodated I also got the seafood pizza delicious service great

Yelp
Worst food and service I've experienced in a very long time. We were initially the only customers then 4 more came in shortly afterward, it took over an hour to get some of the worst food EVER. I ordered a crab breakfast burrito...seemed tasty. Came out almost cold and ingredients included fried egg, brown rice, soy sauce, boiled potatoes, cabbage, black eyed peas and cilantro...none of this was listed on the menu!! And who puts any of that in a breakfast burrito?? My husbands 'breakfast potatoes' were diced boiled potatoes. Very disappointing for the price of the food. Can't even say the service was bad because there really was no service. I had to go ask for more milk for coffee. Nobody ever asked if we needed anything. Definitely not worth the money or the time.

Yelp
Small business with big flavor!! We loved the smoked salmon croissants so much we ordered 6 more for the following week! Forgot to take pictures of the food, but enjoy this picture of my baby in front of the Daily Specials board!

Sarah F.

Yelp
Sadly the salmon croissant was sold out. This was not a light and fluffy croissant, but still delicious with buttery layers. I also got a PB cookie and chocolate chip cookie. Strong butter flavor.

Yelp
I finally made it to this little gem in Nome, and it I am so glad I did! This is a small bakery and restaurant that is open for breakfast and lunch, five days per week. I ordered the soup of the day, which was a delicious Thai inspired soup, and a crab sandwich (the seafood is fresh). I ordered a pizza to go (crab, asparagus, blue cheese), and it was tasty! Everything was delicious and left me wanting more. This is a small place and everything is made to order, so don't expect fast service -- they are waiting tables AND making your meal. Sit down, grab a cup of coffee, read a book, and talk to the locals. Everyone from the owner to the workers to the locals were very nice! If you need something quick, then grab one of their delicious looking pastries (they looked amazing, but I did not try any). I look forward to returning on my next trip through town!

Yelp
Super small place. Only maybe three tables. The best breakfast I've had in Nome. I had the crab omelette. It was good. It had some king crab in it. There should have been more I felt it was mostly full of the brown rice mixture. I felt the portions were appropriate and it was filling It was very tasty. Coffee was good it was serve your self style. The main complaint was the service was super slow and the buns and rolls were open to anything and not covered.I would give this establishment a 3.5 stars but I rounded it up to 4.

Yelp
I'm late in reviewing as I visited Pingo back in March of 2019. Pingo is one of the most recommended eateries when in Nome for the Iditarod. There is never a time when they are open that they are not busy the week the biggest Alaskan sporting event comes to town. My first trip to Nome we never made it into the place because the wait was always out the door. This place is very small and it's "family style seating" meaning if there's a table and chair available anyone can sit down. The food is fresh and made to order, in an area where ingredients aren't cheap and can be sparse, there's no waste... however portions were surprisingly big (seriously their side salad could be its own meal). They have flavorful ingredients, and they know how to make those flavors meld. I had the Roast Beef with Au Jus and blue cheese and the side salad with blue cheese dressing and extra cheese crumbles. Because everything is made to order, the wait was a little longer than my stomach was happy about, but the wait was totally worth it. You can see them make the food - kitchen is just a step away from the tables and is open. As stated the salad was large size with fresh veggies. Not your standard ice berg and carrots either, lots of other fun treats. Dressing was super yum as well. I loves me some blue cheese. They asked if I wanted extra blue cheese crumbles and I said yes, but really I didn't need it as the dressing was VERY cheesy already. The sandwich. OMG. I am now tempted to hitch a plane ride right now for another. The bread was perfectly toasted, the cheese was - once again - generous. Au Jus was warm and not too terribly salty - I wished there was just a little more in the cup, but honestly SO good that it's forgiven. Other than the wait, this is a fantastic option for food. But if you're in a time crunch, probably not the best idea unless you're just grabbing bakery goods. I cannot wait to come back and eat again on my next Iditarod Adventure.

Yelp
I absolutely love this amazing restaurant! My fave are the salmon croissants and the plain or fruity cinnamon rolls!!! It is very cute and an amazing relaxing ambiance! The service was great and she makes everything the morning before opening! Totally recommend Pingo's to my friends and everyone I meet.

Yelp
Hands down the best place to eat in None! Small place it's four tables and it is community seating so be prepared to meet some new people and lean about the area. Super healthy food that is amazing as well. Lots of creative options and fantastic service.

Yelp
Best food in Nome! Erica is a culinary genius! I've been gone from Nome for almost a year, but I still regularly think about her mac & cheese and her Italian plum cake. Not only is she a great cook, she's a great person too and if you're visiting from out of town, she's always willing to give advice about things to do. One of the best parts about Pingo is the seating. Due to size, you often find yourself sharing a table with a cast of colorful characters. I loved eating breakfast with random Nomies and random tourists. Just a wonderful environment!

Yelp
I truly hate to give negative reviews. I had planned in advance to visit this restaurant for all the reasons stated in the reviews while I was in Nome. Unfortunately, it was not a good experience from the food to the service. I realize this is a very small establishment and we are very forgiving, but my only good comment was the cookies we took to-go for later. They were simply excellent. The breakfast we had was terrible. Everything was overcooked including my waffle which was literally crunchy. We watched as the owner/chef ran around clearly overwhelmed. She had a young teen waiting tables who had no idea what he was doing. The bakery items were on a tray uncovered (as previous reviews have said) close to the floor where anything could get to it. We spent our breakfast listening to a phone call where someone had thought they ordered food and clearly she did not have their order - I think her attention to this call and all the sympathy conversation afterwards from clearly locals distracted her from presenting her best meal to us.

Yelp
Great food! The soups and chowders are wonderful. Pastries are generously sized and so tasty. A small operation that is worth the wait!

Yelp
I ate here for breakfast over the weekend and it made me so happy. The atmosphere is cute. It is a bit small so it can get crowded, but you can see Erica, the owner, bustling around the kitchen and her freshly baked croissants and bread. (I wish I could have eaten a croissant so badly- they looked amazing, and HUGE!) She is super knowledgeable about her ingredients and was happy to accommodate my dietary restrictions. I ordered the egg omelet with halibut and crab. Now, in my opinion, it was more of a egg burrito. Instead of the ingredients being cooked inside the egg, the egg was folded over them. It was stuffed full of rice, halibut, crab, and fresh veggies- spinach, purple cabbage, zucchini, and carrots. It also came with delicious rosemary toast (I got mine without butter) and fresh fruit- pineapple, green apple, and cantaloupe. My body was so happy to absorb all the fresh fruits and veggies and get those nutrients! My omelet was 16$, and given the size and freshness of the ingredients (and how expensive food is in Nome), I felt okay with that price. I will definitely be back multiple times!

Yelp
Every time I come to nome, I have to eat here. The food is phenomenal as is the ambiance. The waffles, pastries, and deadwood omelette are outstanding.

Yelp
This place was a little weird. I know Nome isn't a gastropub hot spot and other reviewers on other sites seemed to go wild for Pingo but I wasn't that impressed and neither were my dining companions. Quick note: there seem to be discrepancies between what the menu is online on their site and what's printed in the restaurant and on display on the white board. The three of us arrived and were the only people in the place. It was a very small restaurant, maybe room for eight people to dine in the main dining room. The proprietor was the only server, and she was assisted by one employee. It was a dollar for ice water and lemon (maybe they don't charge if you don't get a lemon?) By the time we had left, we had been there for over an hour and a half. So, because of my confusion with the various menus, there weren't many options I was interested in when we were actually there. On the menu I was handed, there was a vegetable sandwich under lunch. I asked if there was a possibility I could get that. The owner said she could be convinced to do that, so I was happy with her accommodation. I saw on the menu that you could substitute some side with a salad for $6, so I wondered if that was possible with sweet potato fries and was willing to pay the difference. I asked to substitute for fries and I was sternly told "NO! It comes with pickles" even though the menu said it came with fruit. Ooookay. My dining companions ordered the fish sliders. It took a long time to get our food. My sandwich was sloppy and falling apart. The bread didn't stay together. It reminded me of the times I try to make bread at home, but there's always a crumbly texture to it -- this is what the bread was like with my sandwich. The harissa had a decent taste but I ended up having to knife-and-fork the food. The pickles were generic pickles and I wished I was able to get the advertised fruit instead. I basically had a soggy $14 sandwich for dinner. My dining companions didn't like their food much and left half of it uneaten. They noted that the flavors were odd and the patties on the sliders were extremely thin and bland. They each ordered a loaf of bread to go, at $8 a pop. Later, one of them said how disappointed she was in her bread as it was flavorless and tasted mostly of the plastic bag it resided in. I'm sure this place is a breath of fresh air for locals, but I didn't care much for it. Perhaps its pastries are much more popular and I wish I had an opportunity to try them. Next time I'm in town, I may try Pingo for breakfast/lunch and see if it's any better.

Yelp
At the recommendation of a local, the flight team gave this place a try. Normally in Nome, we camp out at Airport Pizza but it's good to give something new a try. Totally glad we did. The menu changes daily and although the place does have limited operating hours, there is the distinct sense of Bed and Breakfast comfort upon walking in the door. The culinary team is committed to making your order as requested and freshly prepared. Prices will run the average for Nome, so don't let that turn you off. The calibre of food is excellent, the vibe is relaxed and you'll find yourself tapping your foot in sequence to the light jazz piping through the establishment.

Yelp
Cute bakery. The hours are extremely limited to Fri/Sa/Su. The owner needs help with everything. Pastries very expensive. A loaf of bread is $8 and I have to say I've bought 2 different types and they both taste the same to me. I enjoyed the ham and cheese croissant but it was also expensive. At least everything is fresh baked. My coworker bought a drip coffee but told me it tasted funny and we drink a lot of coffee. So we can clearly say if it's good or not. The restaurant is called Pingo Bakery and Seafood, but there is not seafood here. It's cut and dry pastry far as I can tell. I wish the owner luck and hope she gets help to expand the items she offers. Her website shows beautiful cakes. I'm not sure, but I think you have to special order it. I didn't see cake anywhere or specialty chocolates either.

Yelp
I came here after reading some reviews stating how good this place is. I knew that Nome needed something more than shitty Chinese or run down pizza joints, but wasn't sure it was ready for "San Fransisco quality restaurant. So I come in and though it is quite small, it is a little cleaner than most places in Nome. I was really hoping for some hot cooked food but didn't really see anything offered. I settled for a pastrami and sauerkraut sandwich on homemade bread with a cup of halibut chowder. All in all the food was good. No complaints there, I wish they had wifi because I had some time to kill and ended up at said pizza joint to kill time. As good as the food was, I guess I'd rather suffer through the lousy service at pizza place for the wifi.

Lindsey D.

Yelp
The crab mac and cheese is amazing. The service is friendly but not fast. We ordered 2 cookies at the end of our meal and instead of handing them to us then, they went and made other people's meals for 20 minutes. That's pretty much par for the course in Nome though.

L A.

Yelp
I am from San Francisco, the Crab Gnocchi I had was out of this world. This restaurant could easily be in the Bay Area, I thought I was back home. I loves the atmosphere of the family seating and the daily menu that is kept short and sweet. The chef was wonderful to talk to and the bread was amazing. I know when I come back I will only eat here, after having over priced mediocre pizza. This hidden gem needs to be put on the face of Nome's greeting card. I am still amazed I would find the best Gnocchi all the way up here in Alaska.

Yelp
If you're in nome, be sure to put Pingo Bakery on your list! You could tell that the owner/cook is passionate about cooking-the customer service is great & the food is even better. I only ate here for dinner, but breakfast & lunch are served as well which I have heard is really good. Everything is homemade. It feels like your eating a home cooked meal in someone's house rather than eating restaurant food.

Lisa C.

Yelp
Yummy: Small place 3 tables that you share. Great baked goods and specials of the day. I had the crab pizza that was sooo good. Fresh dough, fresh crab and very reasonably priced. Big enough to share but I made two meals out of it. My friend had the Gyro lamb sandwich and also loved it. They are only open Wed to Sunday. When in Nome stop in you won't be disappointed!!

Mackenzie M.

Yelp
Easily the best food in Nome. I'm not saying the other places don't have their staples-- I wouldn't go to pingos for a good burger, for example-- but this place has a solid, concise menu and does everything on it with grace and aplomb, as far as I can tell. Went today and got a basil and mozzarella flatbread to go. Even at near room temperature (it had been on a cooling rack, not a fridge or made to order) this was one of the most flavorful things I've had in town. The mozzarella, you could tell, was the good kind, and the basil tasted so fresh. Also took home a loaf of (I think) olive oil and Rosemary bread and some peanut butter cookies to share with my family. Only the bread made it home!

Yelp
Fantastic! Although we were dials pointed that the first night we stopped by, they were closed due to staffing issues, their food at our subsequent two meals more than made up for the delay. First we visited for lunch. The interior contains three tables, all of which had patrons eating lunch. We were a little confused, standing around trying to figure out what to do, when we got stranger shy and fled. We walked around town for a little while, then gave it another go and nabbed an empty table. We were richly rewarded by the smoked salmon chowder, prepared by a chef who clearly knew what she was doing. The bread served along with was delightful and pleasantly while grain. A complex, well crafted broth was supplemented by signifying chunks of fresh fish. Aromatic fresh herbs took it over the top. Not easy to achieve in a remote outpost like Nome. The halibut pizza was good, but a little greasy from the loads of cheese and while it was groaning with vegetables we never found the fish on it. We took two cookies to go. Now, I am picky about baked goods but these were divine and we couldn't help but eat them within blocks of the joint. We returned for dinner where we again enjoyed the chowder...even better from having been steeping all day. The scampi was good, a little weak on flavor, but possessed real seafood. We had a slice of plum cake made with dense and nutty almond flour and bought their last two Michigan cherry white chocolate cookies to go. Why fives stars if it wasn't perfect? Because this is Nome, folks. Everything has to be flown in and the standards are rather low. Also, Pingo is leap years ahead of any of the food establishments in our current town. If I ever returned to Nome I would seek Pingo out because the chef has set the bar for herself very high and is working very hard to reach it.

Eliza J.

Yelp
Stellar and unique experience. Pingo is one of its kind in Nome but would stand out anywhere. Erica is the chef/owner/server (although she occasionally has front of house help) and with a little patience and flexibility you are guaranteed a world class dining experience. The place is small (3 tables) and seating is family style - whether you know someone or don't pull up a chair and sit with them if there's a space available. This might take a little getting used to but a) most people in Nome know each other and b) it's a great way to meet new and interesting people. Erica makes everything from scratch and depending on the day does breakfast lunch and dinner. She also stocks a full array of made from scratch cookies, house made fresh bread, croissants and other baked goods as well as usually at least one desert or pie. The menu is rotating with some specials and some constants. I've never had a bad or off dish in three years of going here. Everything could hold its own in a major city and people from all of the world who come to Pingo often say this. A French film crew told her that her croissants are better than the ones in France. Sometimes service can get bogged down when she's the only one doing everything or there's a large rush but patience will be rewarded. She also does catering and around the holidays takes advance orders for fresh bread and rolls.

Yelp
We were in Nome for the Iditarod when they had extended hours and this was by far our favorite place to grab coffee and pastries in the morning for bfast to go. Ham and cheese croissant was delicious and pretty hardy. We also had lunch there, great seafood Mac and cheese with nice sized chunks of crab and halibut. It's a tiny place so a bit hard to get a table for lunch with all the iditarod fans looking for a decent place to eat, but if you can get in, it is by far your best option!

Mike N.

Yelp
Super tasty food and courteous service. Unfortunately time to receive food can vary wildly. The chef/owner really does her best to make up for any off experiences. The small size (3 tables x4seats) and one chef make for a work in progress. That said I definitely recommend going with set expectations about how long it can take to receive entrees.

Maria M.

Yelp
Extra special service! Thank you Erica for helping to make my daughter's birthday so special! Erica baked a special chocolate granache birthday cake for her and her friends to enjoy. My daughter is spending the summer in Nome for a dietetic internship. Pingo is her favorite restaurant!

DeAnna V.

Yelp
An absolute treat! Simple and delicious food at a reasonable price for this area. One of my favorite places to spend a weekend morning. Wonderful for brunch! Fresh, high-quality ingredients beautifully presented. The menu is simple and consists of waffles, omelets, soups, sandwiches, and a variety of baked goods. Seafood appears in the specials, omelets, and a baked mac&cheese. Limited seating (3 tables) and hours (weekends only), but a wonderful little atmosphere and sunny window looking out onto the street. Open kitchen so you can watch the owner and her staff in action. Best not to be in a hurry, but a definite MUST for visitors to the area :)
