The Huckleberry Shake at the Pioneer Grill.
Somewhere in the planning of our summer road trip 2021, we were going to be driving from Yellowstone National Park exiting the south entrance to head to Jackson Hole. Not sure if in Conde Nast Traveler or another travel periodical, I made note that the Jackson Lake Lodge is a scenic spot to have a meal or at the very least take a pit stop and grab a Huckleberry shake.
What is a Huckleberry Shake?
A huckleberry is small round berry resembling a blueberry that thrives in the Rocky Mountain regions of Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington. Huckleberry + Ice Cream + sprinkles + whip cream = Huckleberry shake!
Why would I want to stop and get a Huckleberry Shake?
Well, the Jackson Lake Lodge is the perfect pit stop to stretch your legs, hit the head and take a minute before you go from one gorgeous national park to another. And whether you are seeking a full meal or simply a Huckleberry shake, when is food not an ideal option on any road trip, when you know clean bathrooms are close by. Am I right or am I right?
My "take on the shake!"
Part birthday cake, part sugar buzz, part huckleberry, the Huckleberry Shake from the Jackson Lake Lodge is a party in your mouth. It is a sweet, thick, creamy, "cake batter meats berry" taste that is one of a kind super fun treat. My husband and I split one and that was good because it is so rich and creamy that neither one of us could have finished it ourself.
So this shake and this stop was notable along our journey. Not stopping for a huckleberry shake is like not stopping to take a peek at the largest ball of twine...you gotta do it once and these small nuggets are what make a road trip memorable and fun! It might not be to everyone's liking, but it's sugar and its huckleberry...come on now. And if you have a minute to enjoy a shake, despite having a chocolate and vanilla option on the menu, I say you try the Huckleberry, because when are you ever going to be on this stretch of road again.
