"Don't let the humble facade of this charming beach shack fool you—the outfitter runs well-oiled tours and rentals for kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding (SUP), and more. They'll hook you and your friends up with boards, life jackets, lockers, and an outdoor shower—all you have to do is bring a towel and SPF. Don't miss their guided SUP Glow Night tour ($45), a one-hour excursion led under the night sky; you'll stand atop LED-equipped boards that illuminate the bay, offering sneak-peaks at the marine life below." - Archana Ram

Arrived around 11 am the gate was locked so we had to find free street parking. There is a little walk-through entrance and you have a 5 minute walk to the tiki hut on the sand to purchase your kayak or paddle boards. There was another group before us who rented paddle boards, so we weren’t the only people out on the water. For $20 an hour you can easily make it paddling around the lower bay and back. With it being my first time kayaking the ride up was super easy but coming back with two different currents crashing together made me have to work a little harder but overall loved the experience!

Google
Newport back bay is the perfect place to try out stand up paddle boarding with kids. It is a bit pricier than other paddle boarding places but I will always pay extra to not have to dodge boats zipping through the waterways. The peace of mind and relaxed atmosphere in the back bay are well worth the extra few dollars for rental here and it is a nice beach to hang out at after your rental is over. Service here was friendly and quick.

Google
Came here for a work gathering, the staff are very friendly and courteous, they were kind enough to waive the 5$ dog fee (dont tell anyone 😉) but I had a great time, saw a lot of children and families enjoying paddle boarding, there is a private little picnic area for customers that made it feel secluded. Lots of fun , will be back.

Google
Super friendly . Affordable prices . Of you don't know ow how to use the paddle board the will teach you . Definitely going again .

Sergio Corona

Google
Always a good experience! Great place for first time paddlers! It's nice that they have the boards right next to the water and always ready to launch! Super friendly and chill staff. Also good affordable prices!

Charles Landis

Google
Great place, great location, great price on a kayak rental. We'll go back. The people there are super nice and friendly.

Tim Brosnan

Google
Great place to try paddle boarding. Friendly service, fairly new equipment. The bay is very safe and easy to paddle around. This is a must do if visiting the area.

Dee MacCloskey

Google
Our family had an absolute blast and a wonderful experience with Pirate Coast Paddle. They were so friendly and helped us get situated. Highly recommend!

Elle K.

Yelp
Always great service. Clean and plentiful equipment. Appreciate the sturdy and supportive kayak seats the most! The seating can make or break your experience. Pros: - Wash area behind the check-in area. - Lockers for rent. - Clean bathrooms near by. - Free street parking.

Katie H.

Yelp
We have had only great experiences at Pirate Coast. I did a day paddle with my family and put kids on the front and the staff was very helpful in giving us the best route for the kids to enjoy. I've also done the Glow Tour with a group of friends and it was a summer highlight! I loved how we paddled out when the sun was setting and then made our way back in the dark, with the moon and glow lights on our SUPs lighting the way. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. I will definitely make this spot semi-annual spot to visit.

Michelle B.

Yelp
The kid's camps are incredible! Our children are three days in and loving every minute. The staff is personable, location easily accessed, materials and equipment top notch. We're signing up for more sessions to finish the summer and will for sure be back next summer. The lighted night tours are also one of a kind. Such an asset on the back bay for locals and tourist alike.

Bella W.

Yelp
Very fun, nice boards. Not too expensive. Love this place! I bought my girl here and she had her first paddle board experience and loved it!

Chloe N.

Yelp
Easy to find, just look for the sign and follow. Parking on the street early Sunday was fairly easy for us. Checking in was easy and straight forward. They gave us the paddle board and a brief instruction on how to paddle since it is our first time. The water area tho, is open space bay with lots of boats and houses, so can paddle and sightseeing. Not the best scenery but we have had worse Checking out was painfully long. We waited almost 30' just to check out (around noon time and it was very hot out) and she wanted to charge us for 2 hours, my friend said it's only been 1.5 hours since we waited in line for almost 30', and so that's what she charged us for. No argument or anything so not too bad. You just need to clarify or you will end up paying more.

Scott B.

Yelp
We have our 8 and 9 yr old participating this summer and feel like it has been the best camp for value and experience! For 3 hours a day, a week, they have enjoyed navigating the bay under friendly and caring camp leaders, enjoyed not just SUP but a trail hike and floating inflatables, and begging for more. We will be back, next week ;), great job Pirate Coast Paddle Co!

Kari I.

Yelp
Tried the Glow SUP experience tonight and I'm glad we did. We were well taken care of and had a great time! Can't wait to do it again.

Brenda L.

Yelp
Perfect location for both novice and experts! Although it's a bit hard to locate from the street, just think closer to water and you will find it. Try to locate the bridge in the lagoon and that's where it's at. Friendly and helpful staff, more than willing to instruct if it's your first time. Their rates are pretty affordable and seems to have not been affected by inflationary pandemic. There is plenty of space in a cove for beginners to learn and the open part of the lagoon was also not very intimidating as far as waves go. We went on a weekday so not as much boat and perhaps because fuel is also expensive. You have plenty of room to enjoy paddling. Great for individual, couple, or groups! They have SUP glow which you are required to book in advance. This is when you go at sunset and the paddle board is equipped with under water lighting. Should be a site to see on nights close to sunset. The only really downfall which is not their fault is that the water is a bit dirty. If you fall, make sure you don't swallow!!

Moira H.

Yelp
Attended a paddle board yoga class through Pirate Coast. Well managed, fun, clean equipment, nice group. I'm sure that I was the oldest participant by a decade or two, and I fell off my board twice, but was able to quickly climb back on, and no one was unkind about it. I also hadn't attended a yoga class on land for over a decade, so some of the poses were impossible for me (headstand) or caused me to lose my balance (tree). Only the second time I tried SUP; one must paddle under a bridge and to the center of the Back Bay to reach the class location. I really enjoyed this and hope to do it again.

Julie L.

Yelp
I used Pirate Coast Paddle Company before purchasing my own paddleboard. They have fair prices, a great launching spot in the back bay and during the summer they have evening Paddle Board session, where your boards light up. Its really fun!

Ty D.

Yelp
Yes I go to the camp super fun I love it On water inflatables on Tue day and Thursday

Johnette M.

Yelp
After several awesome experiences with Pirate Coast I thought it was time to leave a great review. My best friend and I decided we wanted to learn to SUP this year. After a a lot of research on all the local spots up the coast, this seemed like the place to go. The location is easy to find (love the hut) and very clean. Parking is definitely a bit of a challenge but street parking usually pops up after a while. The staff is helpful and efficient. They taught us everything we needed to know and answered all of our questions. Most importantly, the equipment is sanitized and in new condition. Life jackets are provided as well at no extra charge. This is a great location for new SUPers and less than strong swimmers as they launch into calm and shallow waters. Once you are ready you can paddle towards the deeper ocean water. We decided to take on the night glow tour as part of my birthday celebration this past weekend and it was beautiful. Not only do the boards glow, but you can see the stars and city lights from the back bay. Best of all the water was warm. It's a challenge but a memory you'll have forever! Do it once, you won't be sorry. We will definitely be SUPers for life! If we weren't planning on buying snowboards for this winter we'd definitely be buying our own SUP boards now. Thanks for helping us get into this sport! Support this local business!!!! Mahalo!

Mylene C.

Yelp
This is a great place to SUP, especially for beginners like myself any my family (2 teenage boys). The workers were very kind and helpful. They gave great directions and made sure you felt comfortable before taking off. The area is great for beginners with a learning area and channels to explore once you were comfortable. I highly recommend this place for SUP

Jacky L.

Yelp
Loved kayaking with pirates coast. They allowed dogs on the kayak and paddle boards but sadly no life vest for them :(. All in all it was a great experience and lots to explore in this vicinity. Definitely left as a happy customer

Mari D.

Yelp
I have been paddle boarding here 3 times and each time it's been so fun and a great experience! The staff is super nice and helpful , they wear face masks even in the summer heat ! I even see the staff disinfecting the boards after they're used . There's plenty of boards and kayaks , so I haven't had to wait for anything yet. The prices are great . I will definitely be buying the annual pass next summer !!

Lizelle P.

Yelp
I'm a complete beginner at paddle boarding and i tried out this company for lessons and rental of their paddleboards. Mark was patient, calm and an experienced teacher. Loved the vibes and everything I learnt. So glad I decided to try something new. Highly recommend it as a de-stressor. It's not busy on a weekday and great to go out on the water and view sting rays and ducks. On a weekday you need to call ahead for an appointment and they will open up shop for you. Affordable prices and beautiful location. Free parking available on the street.

rene r.

Yelp
Good equipment, nice friendly staff w instruction for beginners, easy to get to in Newport Dunes. I've been there 4 times now and Bria has always been amazing. Today we rented 4 boards and a kayak. They have a variety of boards, kayaks, adjustable paddles, life jackets for younger ones, lockers for rent and reasonable prices. Highly recommend. Dying to try their evening tour!

Janet D.

Yelp
Great and friendly service. The location was a little difficult to find but we were able to call and the representative was kind enough to guide us in the right direction.

Melinda T.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I rented 2 SUPs one evening. The wait was short. The service was friendly. The equipment seem of high-quality and in great condition. The price was also affordable. They also have prepaid options too that will reduce the price per each rental. As far as the experience, it was tons of fun. The instructor suggested getting comfortable paddling while on your knees first, but we just went for it. Lifejackets are optional. Balance is a little more necessary. The water is calm for the most part. I'm not a strong swimmer (and yes, I had a lifejacket), but I felt safe doing this. Definitely recommend for those who are looking for something fun and active to do!

Mark A.

Yelp
Had the best time. My wife wanted to go out and enjoy some stand up paddling for her birthday in the Newport Back Bay . After doing a little research on the web Pirate Cost Paddle Company kept coming out on top. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. I loved the look of the location. It has a tropical beach hut feel to it. We will certainly be going back again.

Diana S. T.

Yelp
It's a nice place to launch a paddle from and a nice ride but I experienced two issues: 1) they don't tell you to park outside so that you don't have to pay an extra $10 when you park at The Dunes. And I called them two times before going. 2) Their system for checking and checking out isn't effective. There's only one person at the stand doing both, so if you wanna pay, you have to wait in the same like as people coming to check in. Not efficient at all.

Savannah H.

Yelp
Super chill spot for beginners. Staff was friendly and helpful. I'm totally going back and bringing my kids!

E. M. S.

Yelp
Loved it. Took an 8 year old for her first Kayak experience and she loved it too. The waters are calm. Huge cliff jutting into the water with marshlands further out, so if you block out all the boats to your left, you can see a bit of what the original California must have been like. We saw a fish jump out of the water. Maybe there was a "cue the fish" happening in the background? (haha) but I think we were just lucky. They have all the lifejackets you can need. They have lockers if you want to store your stuff. Super laid back, easy going people working there. For a minute I thought I was in Hawaii. It was Labor Day, end of the day, so air was fresh, it was cool and low sun which adds up to perfect. Foot Wash with a BENCH: -- yes Clean Bathrooms: -- yes Take credit cards: -- yes Prices: Same as other places, so fine. Kayaks in good condition -- yes Seats are strong? YES!! Parking: Yes, but don't park near the boat parking lot. Call and ask for details about parking. Open later than the other Newport kayak rental place and no crazy loud rock and roll music to ruin your tropical vibe like at the other kayak place. Overall a win-win-win-win-win-win-win situation. THANK YOU Pirate Coast Paddle. Can't wait to come back.

Maria G.

Yelp
Thank you again for such an amazing time and coming to our rescue when the sob on the boat(LT Dan) gave us a hard time. Thank you‍ best place to go paddle boarding at night

Corrin C.

Yelp
I did the Glow night paddle and LOVED IT. All the guides were fabulous. I will definitely be talking more friends on this tour again. Can't wait until next season!

Tasja W.

Yelp
WOW WHAT A GREAT EXPERIENCE!! I came with my friends last night to do stand-up paddle board with the night lights on the paddle board. What a fun time we had last night. The water was perfect and the temperature was great. Excellent customer service from everyone at Piirate Coast Paddle Company. You do not need a wetsuit and they have free lockers to lock up your stuff. I am definitely going to do it again. If you're looking for something to do this is definitely worth it. Love it

Marissa R.

Yelp
Easy set up, fill out the waiver and you're all set. Very fun for all ages. Comes with life jackets.

David T.

Yelp
It was a nice day on the water and a great cardio workout. The guys working here are laid back and friendly. They have lockers to put your keys, etc. Use your cash, debit or credit card and you're on your way. You can paddle around NP dunes, or go out to back bay. Just park on the street and walk in. It doesn't always smell fresh, but it's a bay, so I figure it's just smells of nature! My only complaint is that you walk in some mucky sand before you get on your board. Again, maybe it's just nature.

Lorraine B.

Yelp
AMAZING! Inexpensive, great, friendly customer service! I came for a spontaneous kayak trip with my boyfriend and we had such a great time! Before going in the water, the owner showed me how to tow. Once he found out that I had no idea how to swim, he pulled out a life vest for me to wear. I had so much fun! I truly don't remember ever having more fun than I had on that kayak out in the water. I highly recommend!

Vidal S.

Yelp
Birthday outing with the family got so much better with this company and all it offered. Both gentlemen who were working were so awesome. They were professional, personal and so easy going. They treated us with respect and made our check in time and check out time so easy. I would definitely recommend this place to all who want to paddle board. Thank you very much for the perfect birthday outing!!

Margaret F.

Yelp
We had a great experience paddle boarding today. Lauren and Austin were super! They showed us how to do it, took some photos for us and were so nice. It was a wonderful thing to do with the grandchildren before school starts again.

Kevin X.

Yelp
Park outside the lot on the road, and walk around to the resort gated entrance (not sure why everything got fenced off?). Got on a paddleboard within 3 minutes of walking up to the stand, on a Wednesday late morning. The Newport backbay is phenomenal, calm, and a nice reprieve from this heatwave. $20 for 75 minutes. Highly recommend.

Jen K.

Yelp
First time I ever tried SUP was via a yelp event many years ago with the OG OC yelp rep Hazel and I've been wanting to try their Glow SUP night tour for awhile but that event sells out quickly, so when I saw some additional openings this summer I jumped at the opportunity. So book them ASAP when they release for the summer. My friend and I had a great time. And I believe they are the only folks in town that offer this. Use the directions on the website since I was the idiot that used Google Maps, which will take you around a loop thru the bay. I easily found street parking in the evening since neither of us wanted to pay and walking is good for burning calories. And there's public restroom about a 10 minutes walk from their shop. They provide lockers for you to use but since I've done SUP before I've narrow down what I needed to bring. Keys, drivers license, credit card and some cash in a ziploc bag in a fanny pack (no shame since it's dark and I wasn't planning to fall in, but if you're not sure a waterproof pack or nada if you're a minimalist). Would suggest bringing a long sleeve top since it was a bit chilly in the evening but the water was amazingly warm due to our scorching summer. The staff informed me the water is normally warm in the summer. Also wear the basics i.e. swimsuit and bring a towel (if you anticipate falling in). It's in the bay so the water is pretty calm compared to the open ocean, but we had a few people fall in but I have a hunch those were the ones that were trying SUP for the first time and everyone is required to wear a lifejacket for this event. I normally don't wear for day SUP if I don't have to since I can swim. My friend just wore a tank and he was fine and he wore a light backpack and he regretted not bringing his GoPro. Luckily, I had purchased one of those cheap plastic waterproof smartphone cases from TJ Maxx (Amazon probably had better ones) so I was able to take pictures. Though make sure you have a good sense of balance or are used to SUP, otherwise if you don't feel comfortable on the board you may fall in. Was able to take some shots of my friend and the scene. I suck at selfies so ones at night are just not happening. And if you're super talented I saw from other social media postings a drone (would ask staff first if that's allowable). It's a guided tour with 3 staff one in the front, middle, and back. My friend and I hung out in the front to avoid the traffic of newbies since that just provides more opportunity for you to also fall in. It was quite relaxing paddling at night since there's less boats and others in the water and I've never been in the bay at night except on a Duffy boat. We almost made it to the PCH bridge but the staff suggested going back since not all of our group was there yet and it was getting late and we still needed to paddle back in time. The staff mentioned that occasionally you'll use bioluminescent algae in the evening. My friend and I saw a jellyfish (don't fall in) but I wasn't able to snap it in time. And you may still see the jumping fish, which we did. Overall, a must do when in OC for the summer. Staff was friendly and great.

Tina N.

Yelp
Good job PIRATE COAST! Thank you for being responsible during these difficult times. I was there on Sunday armed with sanitizer and wipes just in case you were not doing what you said you were doing on your website. Unfortunately some companies are not following the guidelines. Staff was wearing masks when near any clients, thank you. COVID-19 protocols posted, thank you. Two big bottles of hand sanitizer at the desk, thank you. Employee, WES, sanitizing the pens, thank you. Employee, WES, "we sanitize the boards after every use, but happy to do it again for you" THANK YOU! Employee takes oars when we get back and straight to sanitize, THANK YOU Employees make sure to handle our boards when we get back for sanitizing, THANK YOU! I started coming to Pirate Coast last year and ended up going every weekend and brought more than 17 people throughout the summer of which some are also now regulars. MIKE is always kind and helpful and very knowledgeable about the conditions and makes us feel at home. This gives families a great option to get outside and do something they feel is safe. AGAIN, GOOD JOB PIRATE COAST, THANK YOU!

Ana C.

Yelp
During these uncertain times, I was hoping that since the business was open during quarantine, they would have some COVID-19 measures. None of the workers wore any mask nor did they follow any social distancing. You still have to sign a paper waiver with pens that everyone touches, even tho that can be easily avoided by having a waiver online like most companies. I also did not see a single person disinfect anything. I don't think they have any disinfectants for the equipment that they're renting. I was really hoping that they will be disinfecting the equipment that they're renting in between uses. The only thing they had was a dirty looking hand sanitizer over the counter. There are no restrooms or anywhere to wash your hand near the shop, the only thing they had was a hose in the back with no soap. I think the location is nice, the people were friendly and the prices were fair, so I will come back maybe next year, but for now, I will be renting elsewhere.

Jesse T.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I came down for her birthday. I live in Newport Beach and wanted to go somewhere not really busy and crowded in the bay. I found Pirate Coast Paddle Company and even from their website, I knew it was going to be good. When we arrived, we were greeted at the stand by a guy that was super nice. He was friendly and chatted with us for a moment. I told him we were here for my girlfriends birthday and he right away said very nice and go ahead and pick out a hat on us for your bday. He also gave us a locker for free for her bday. We got our paddle board and were out in the water for about 1.5 hours. Great location and didn't have to worry about any boats getting close to us. All the equipment was in good condition and the set up was great. When we returned he greeted us and reminded my girlfriend to pick out a hat for her bday. Pricing was great and location was even better. I will for sure tell my friends about this company and will be back.

Ali G.

Yelp
I've gone paddle boarding here probably 10 times. They are always so nice and helpful. They will give you basic instruction if it's your first time. You can purchase hats and waterproof cases for your phone. You can also rent a small locker for a couple bucks. I've also just left my shoes and stuff on the beach. It's in the bay so the water is calm and it's peaceful to paddle around. I'll definitely be back.

Mia N.

Yelp
We mostly came here because we wanted to go somewhere with the least chance of encountering sharks :-P this place is definitely good for that! It's a protected and populated bay - sharks ain't swimming into here. The waters here are pretty calm; no one in our group fell in - hurray! I wish the guy who set us up on our boards had taught us how to turn because I was kind of struggling with that, especially with the high winds that day that made steering and paddling more difficult. Overall I really enjoyed and would come back again.

Sarah O.

Yelp
Great experience here. Rented a SUP, & the employee told us that we would be charged for the amount of time that we would be out there, rather than having a set time. This worked well for us because our group could paddle for however long, & not have to worry about making it back in time or only paddling for a shorter time than what we paid for. All employees were very friendly and enthusiastic. Equipment is not run down, & they had plenty SUPs to rent on Sunday. No need to reserve, just walk in! Would recommend!

Jenna L.

Yelp
This place is an amazing beach rental shop. The workers are friendly and there's always paddleboard available for my group when I come to paddleboard on the weekends. The location is so nice too! For a calmer paddleboarding experience, you can paddleboard peacefully in the little bay. If you want to explore and roam the rest of the Newport Bay area, the waters get a little rougher but it's still a fun experience.

Samantha B.

Yelp
SO MUCH FUN We did the glow tour and it was An amazing experience. There's plenty of guides so you can go at your own pace and not be worried about being left behind. The boards seemed brand new and they were easy to ride. Tour guides were funny and friendly, the entire experience was amazing! Also have never been to Newport but the hour and half drive was definitely worth it

Jasmine S.

Yelp
I absolutely love this place and I've been coming here for the past few years for an affordable and fun summer outdoor activity. I love to bring people who have never been before and I just really enjoy getting out in the water during the warmer seasons, as most do. I like that this place is great for all levels; so whether you are new to paddle boarding or consider yourself well-versed there's a little something for everybody. This place is both children friendly as well as dog friendly so bring your little ones and fur babies along! I would warn those who go out to be careful around the shallow waters as there are stingrays all over the place (just a small cautionary). I would ,however, recommend that one does not proceed out in the bay towards the right as you will easily drift off further and further into the bay and your return will be a very laborious one. My only complaint would be that my several times coming no one has ever warned me of that until I mentioned something today. Aside from all of this I would say come on out with the family and the Furry ones and enjoy your day!

Michael H.

Yelp
What an amazing experience. Rented 2 SUP's with my buddy and had a great time here at Pirate Coast Paddle Company. From the time we went to check it for rental, what a friendly staff. Caleb was real friendly and helpful from the moment we checked in (check in was so easy). After the quick and easy check in we were met by Mike who showed us some tips about the SUP rental. Mike was super friendly and made us feel at ease about taking the trip around the bay on the SUP's. I would definitely recommend Pirate Coast Paddle Company to friends as well as people I don't know. Had such a good time, the equipment was perfect and clean, the water was so nice and the Newport Back Bay was smooth. I'm going back again real soon multiple times.

Monique L.

Yelp
Absolutely loved this place. The staff is super friendly and patient. Everyone was masked up and following COVID protocol here. Well worth the price. Will definitely be back.

Anna-Marie T.

Yelp
I had an awesome time paddle boarding at Newport Back Bay using rentals from Pirate Coast Paddle Company! The staff are very friendly and helpful and the prices are great (especially if you buy a Groupon). I highly recommend coming here for paddle board rentals. P.S. If you want to bring your phone out with you, they provide zip lock bags which keep it from getting soaked but not lost.

Jeff H.

Yelp
Excellent service, quality boards and convenient location make this our go to paddle board spot!

Nicole A.

Yelp
I think I should start off by saying we were a group of 3, waiting for 5 more friends to arrive, so we would be a party of 8. We were hoping for all of us to kayak, so the day before coming I called the front desk to check if we needed to reserve a spot or anything since it was so many of us. Over the phone they let me know its first come first serve, and we may need to wait up to an hour an a half for that many kayaks. We let her know that was fine with us, and that we'd arrive at around 3 or 4pm :) Anyway, my sister, her friend, and I arrived at 4:16 (according to my parking ticket hehe) today to let the front desk know we were looking to rent 4 double-kayaks. The girl at the front desk let us know it would be "practically impossible" to get 4 doubles, and that we would need some of us to go into single kayaks. We let her know that we can adapt and that we were just looking forward to kayaking. She let us know we would have to wait an hour, she wrote my name down and we sat down on the benches while she helped another family check out. It was pretty busy and we were okay with waiting since our other 5 friends were still on their way over. I think our first misunderstanding occurred here. We thought since my name was being written down, kayaks would be held for us to use when our whole party arrived. After about 20 minutes, a guy comes to check in with us, and asks if any of us want to paddleboard instead. We now know that this business has way more paddleboards than kayaks, but from the website that wasnt clear to us, especially since pricing is pretty similar. I think during the hour and a half we were there we only saw one kayak coming in for returns We said we'd be open to paddleboarding, depending on how many kayaks were available when our entire party arrived. At around4:50 theres no line so a member of our party asks if theres a restroom he could use. However, the girl at the front desk had a conversation that felt pretty condescending. She told him that we definitely would not kayak, since it wasn't "logical" for her business to hold kayaks at the end of the day. My friend was confused, since we had only been asked if we wanted to paddleboard, not that we wouldn't be able to kayak. This could have been more miscommunication, but in our opinion it the employees tone came off as rude, as if she seemed annoyed by his confusion. My friend said paddleboarding was fine, and was then directed to the bathroom. He let me know he felt put down. At around 5:15 my other 5 friends let us know they were stuck and told us to go on ahead on the boards. The 3 of us got in line to check in and sign waivers, hoping to fit in a 75min session before 7pm. We were next in line when the same employee gets a phone call, and I can tell right away its about to be bad. She gets off the phone and announces to the line, which had gotten long behind us, that there would be no more check ins due to inclement weather. we are at the front, I ask her if the 3 of us could paddleboard since we have been waiting for an hour. She tells us we can get on, but "that's it!" and that we wouldn't have a good time due to wind. I realize that if we go on paddleboards the customers behind me might get riled up, saying its not fair etc. Regardless of it being fair or not, at this point I was a frustrated w the girl at the front desk. I don't know if maybe she was just having a rough day, but she had treated my party as if we were an inconvenience the entire time we were there. I no longer wanted to give her money or my time, so I told her nevermind we'll get going and that i hope she has a nice day. I am also working in the service industry during a pandemic, earlier that day I worked my own full 8 hours. What I have come to understand is that the most important aspect of my job is that my customers leave happy with the products and/or experiences I have helped them purchase. It is okay for you to have a long line and be busy, you are being paid to help these people pay yoU. Customers are your livelihood, since them returning for more is essential for the success of your business. I read the reviews before choosing to come here, and I had high expectations. I can only say I was disappointed, and felt embarassed that this is where I decided to take my friends. I'm glad only 3 of the original 8 people had to be present for your underwhelming customer service. The onl Maybe we just got unlucky. It was no one's fault that the weather was acting up. The benches were comfortable and clean so I'll give two stars I guess. Thanks for reading hope you're all safe and well.

Yelp
This place has no moral standard. THEY LIED twice and did not feel sorry. We called 5 mins before arriving and he said "there are a few kayaks available right now, no need to wait" on the phone. When we arrived, there was more than 20 people in the line. Upon talking to the staff there, we're told we're second in line for double kayaks, and he would give us a call when there's availability. We waited for 1.5 hour then left. Until this day we did not receive a call from them and we're sure the phone number they took down was correct. We arrived 3 hrs before they closed. So they definitely had multiple parties on the callback list before us but they did not want us to know so we would keep waiting. This place is 30%+ more expensive than other kayak rental places around the area. It has the worst space - just a tent and a trailer, and dishonest employees or owners. The place is located in a giant hotel parking lot. For 2 hrs be expected to pay $15+ for parking. They also charge a fee for pets. Other kayak places around don't charge for parking and pets. ---------------------------------------------- Reply to owner's reply and recommendation to people: You say you're the "BEST" and then marginalize me to prove you're the best is such a joke :) This reminds me of victim blaming. Your rate is more expensive that's a fact. You do more marketing for your company than other companies around there, look at your "beautiful" website and cool logo! Marketing costs money. You don't need to be a "genius" to realize there was no "free" street parking available on a "busy" day as you said. The resort parking lot was even almost full. Also from the gate of the resort parking to your rental place is 300ft. So on average expect to walk 500ft when you street park, especially when you don't know when you can get on the water and how much stuff you should bring. But guess what? They rent out lockers too! I'd much rather leave my stuff in the car a few feet away at other places. Most other rental places have their own parking lot for free. Oh since when does entering a "paid" parking lot guarantee 24hr security? Price does not guarantee safety... Most other rental places have a nice beach they push you off from. They also go over the proper kayak/SUP technics. Yet you say you have an "epic beach" and others have a trashy launch area? What's an "epic" beach anyways? A beach with tons of people not social distancing or wearing masks? (I'm not blaming this on you because they're guests too, but this is the scene.) I'd rather prefer a calm and clean beach, which other places have. Now I apologize to the staff because clearly the owner is the one who is desperate to get business, not the staff. "Newport Aquatic Center" is the one we went to eventually. It has a clean beach, free and available parking on the busiest day, shorter wait, clean bathroom, and friendly staff. It does not have one thing-- an owner that's sooooo eager for business. DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH. Use their websites to check rates and use google map to see their parking lots, check in area and beach. See it for yourself.

Yelp
Great place to rent anything you need for a fun day on the water. Pricing is very reasonable, they have a lot of inventory. I showed up at 3 PM on a Saturday. Wanted to rent a SUP and single kayak. They were out of single kayaks at the time (COVID delayed an additional 15 single kayaks in their inventory which they are receiving this week). We ended up getting 2 SUPs instead and loved it. You can always use the SUP as a kayak if you sit on it (you'll just get a little more wet, but its a day on the water so who cares). They offered if I passed by and saw a kayak I could swap it out. Once I was out there there was no need to swap, even though I did see some kayaks back in. The staff was super friendly and helpful will all of my questions for my first time paddle boarding. One of the biggest reasons I chose this place is they have a dedicated parking lot at Newport Dunes. Pricing is reasonable for parking ($10 for 2 hours, $15 for 2-5 hours). Plenty of spaces, short walk to Pirate Coast. I will definitely come back here again!

Yelp
The manager low-key mocked my partner after he fell off the paddle board and bruised his knee. It was his first time paddle-boarding and he could have drowned so he was a bit scared, and he and another staff member laughed it off. Sure, it was his own mistake he fell but they really didn't have to say anything about it, or they could've just said "sorry that happened." It felt weird to pay $120 to be laughed at by beach bros who are still mentally in high school. Very unprofessional and strange behavior. Just be careful coming here.
