Highlights

Pirates of Hilton Head offers the best pirate cruise for kids on Hilton Head Island. The action is non-stop as we transform the kids into our Pirate Crew. The adventure starts at the dock where each little mate gets to put on some pirate gear, gets a pirate tattoo and learns to talk like a pirate. Then we jump onboard our pirate ship cause we've got a map that leads to a sunken treasure chest, but Stinky Pete knows about it too and he stole the key. The race is on to find Stinky Pete, and get the key back before he can steal the treasure for himself. Once we find him our new Crew is going to have to man the water cannons, and blast the stink right off of Pete until he gives us the key! We always beat Stinky Pete and every little pirate always gets a handful of treasure. We celebrate the victory with a limbo then it's back to the dock. All told it's about an hour and a half of great fun for the kids. We look forward to having you aboard. This is one adventure they'll never forget

"Technically, you're on a boat touring the Calibogue Sound, but as far as the kids can tell, you're on a grand pirate adventure with some live action role play thrown in. Rogue pirate route this is not—it's all well-organized and choreographed, with a high-energy guide who can maintain childlike levels of energy. Accompanying adults are welcome to take in the passing views of the Hilton Head coast, assuming they're not enthralled with the firing of water cannons and the fending off of bad guys. Expect your kid to come off the boat answering only to her pirate name, and with a few new (temporary) tattoos." - Paul Oswell

We had an absolute blast on the Pirate Adventure! From the face paint and pirate lingo to the water cannon battle at sea, every detail was perfect. My boys were fully immersed — even the “too cool” older brother couldn’t resist joining in. The crew was fantastic with the kids and made it such a magical, memorable experience. Highly recommend for families visiting Hilton Head!

10/10 – A Highlight of Our Hilton Head Trip! Our kids had an absolute blast on the pirate cruise! Skipper, Scallop, Captain Bones, and Stinky Pete did a wonderful job – they were incredibly entertaining, not just for the kids but for the adults too. The entire experience was engaging, fun, and so well done. My kids are still proudly carrying around their pirate gear. Thank you for an unforgettable experience!

We had an incredible time on the Hilton Head pirate boat tour at Harbour Town! Our 5-year-old son absolutely loved the entire experience. He said it was his favorite part of our 4-day stay. His highlight was helping blast “Stinky Pete” off his boat using the water cannons. The crew was fantastic with both kids and parents. They were engaging, fun, and professional. Although we had a little light rain during the ride, it didn’t take away from the fun and actually added to the pirate adventure vibe. We opted for the add-on pirate set (eye patch, flag, and sword), as well as the fossil and shark tooth bundle. Both were well worth it and made the experience even more memorable. The timing of the tour was perfect, with constant activities to keep the kids engaged. On the way back, we got to see several dolphins up close, which was such a fun bonus. We felt completely safe the entire time and had zero complaints. Highly recommend this adventure if you’re visiting Hilton Head with kids!

Google
This was such a fantastic experience for my "little pirates". The crew did an amazing job to keep the kids entertained as the found the treasure. The kids even got a hand full of the treasure to take home! I don't know how the crew stays so upbeat doing so many of these a day! My grandkids loved it- "better than pony rides" said one. Incredible job!

Google
Always a great time with the pirate crew while on Hilton head! Took our son last year who had just turned 3 and though he was a bit young he enjoyed it and talked about Stinky Pete alllll year! This year newly 4 he was really in his element! The crew does a fantastic job staying engaging and funny throughout and super helpful for those kids who may be young or a little nervous to make sure to include them too!

Google
This had to be without a doubt, one of the cheesiest things we’ve done and the kids couldn’t love it more. Garvy captain bones and stinky Pete or amazing and should get a raise no doubt. It was well executed well planned out and quite honestly just a fun experience to see the kids have just such a blast. It only took an hour and a half, and they made every second of it super friendly and super interactive. In fact, the only thing I did during the trip was take pictures and videos. Again, the staff, curvy captain bones, and stinky pee should definitely get a raise or a spot on Broadway, kudos to you and thank you.

Google
Swashbuckling Adventure with the Best Pirate Crew on the High Seas!" Our family’s adventure aboard the Black Sparrow was nothing short of magical—thanks to the incredible crew! The girl pirates had us in stitches with their witty banter and infectious energy. Their humor was perfectly balanced by Stinky Pete, whose hilarious antics and dramatic flair kept everyone laughing. The way they played off each other felt like a pirate comedy duo straight out of a movie! From the moment we docked, the crew transformed our little ones into fierce buccaneers with face paint, pirate names, and a treasure hunt that had them squealing with excitement. The girl pirates were especially patient with our shy kiddo, making her feel like part of the crew with personalized jokes and encouragement. Meanwhile, the boy pirates had us all roaring as they "argued" over the map and "tripped" over their own swords—pure gold! This isn’t just a cruise—it’s a masterclass in family entertainment. Pirates of Hilton Head, you’ve set the bar sky-high! We’ll be back for more laughs and loot. 10/10, would walk the plank for this crew!

Google
Such a fun experience for kids (and adults who love their giggles)! I recommend this for kids from 4-8 years old. The college students and the captain do a wonderful job teaching the children how to be pirates and make a fun adventure of finding “Stinky Pete” for the key to the treasure. Once Stinky Pete is found the kids had the best time blasting him with water from the cannons until he surrendered and tossed the keys onboard. Each child gets a good handful of pirate “loot” before the end of the cruise. It is so well done. We scheduled our cruise for 7pm and also enjoyed seeing dolphins and a gorgeous sunset.

Yelp
Another great adventure with the Pirates of HHI - Sparrow, Sting Ray, Scully and Captain Bones made sure every "matey" had a wonderful time and threw in some zingers for the parents too!! Be sure to get there 15 minutes to join in all the pre-sail activities !!

Nina G.

Yelp
This was so fun!! My boyfriend and I went on this, yes we know it's for kids, and we had the best time. The crew was a blast and let us use the extra water cannon and gave us some left over treasure! I loved Sandy especially, she was the best. Definitely take your kids here!! As a teenager who had a blast, I know these kids had the best time.

Jennifer B.

Yelp
Brought my son to the excursion and he had the absolute best time! So much fun for all the littles and laughs for the parents too. Everyone did a great job keeping the kids engaged. Special shout-out to Sting-Ray for letting my son raise the flag! Bring extra water with you it gets toasty!! Don't forget to tip these kids it's a lot of work in the hot sun too!

Karin Z.

Yelp
The staff did an amazing job and everybody had a great time. Such a fun idea and the kids just love love loved it. Especially the water cannons, That every kid got to do. And the swords of course. Anyone 3+

Louise W.

Yelp
This is the best 2-hour children's activity/adventure! The adults were spectators, the children were pirates searching for a map, fighting a wayward pirate, and getting the treasure. From getting messages in a bottle to singing to using water cannons to learning pirate jargon, the kids had a wonderful time! Can't say enough good things about this; the crew was amazing!

Marty M.

Yelp
An amazing time, great for kids to become a imitation pirate! The crew was amazing, even had twin pirates, great captain Bones, together held off Stinky Pete, recovered the keys to the treasure, everyone had an awesome time on the seas searching for loot and treasure!

Iesha C.

Yelp
Our family was looking for something new and fun to do with our 5 year old and this boat ride was awesome. We visit Hilton head each year for spring break and this is one boat ride our son didn't fall asleep on. The crew had the kids engaged before we even stepped foot on the boat. It was throughly entertaining and our son had a blast.

Kristy S.

Yelp
Pricey but funner than expected. My 3 yo daughter enjoyed her experience with her cousins. They wore borrowed vests and bought $5 swords. It's a good hour of entertainment. You don't get wet. The kids share water canons and try to shoot at the actor (pirate) in the water. They read maps and solve riddles. They do get peach tea on board but bring snacks if you need to. They get a handful of treasure toys at the end. It's a good experience for toddles and young kids.

Theresa A.

Yelp
Highly recommend if you have a little one. Before the actual boat ride they give the kids pirate outfits and do face painting. Then they give the kids lessons on how to be pirates, which is very cute. Once you are on the boat they have a special place for all the kids and put on a full show. They create a plan where the kiddos can find a buried treasure and have another boat come by posing as another pirate ship. They do find a treasure at the end and my daughter is still carrying around the plastic rings she "found".

Ryan P.

Yelp
My family planned a trip this May, and we were contacted the day prior to our booking (a Saturday) to let us know the event was cancelled due to wind. The owner rescheduled us for the following Wednesday, so our party extended their stay in Hilton Head to accommodate the change. We paid $20 for our party to enter Sea Pines for the day, and as we walked up, 30 minutes prior to our booking, we were contacted and told it was cancelled again. 30 minutes notice.

Esther W.

Yelp
My husband, my 5 year-old son, and I spent a week exploring Savannah, HHI, and Tybee Island. Of all of the things that we did, this was our son's absolute favorite, and it was a highlight of the trip for us parents, too. Prior to leaving their booth to walk to the dock, the kids got pirate names and a tattoo, and they got to choose pirate vests & sashes to wear. We purchased the ultimate pirate package as well so our son got an eyepatch, a pirate bandana, and a crew-signed pirate flag. (The website says they do face painting, but that was not done I'm assuming due to COVid.) The crew did an amazing job at keeping the kids (and parents) entertained. They make sure that every kid gets a chance to shoot the water cannons and get some of the treasure. We were also able to spot some dolphins from the boat. We're back at home and my son has his pirate flag hanging in his room, still plays with his pirate bandana, and mentions Stinky Pete frequently. We definitely recommend this adventure for children!

J P.

Yelp
Amazing time for kids and adults. The entire staff is friendly, outgoing and keeps the kids busy. It's a fun time out on the ship. The kids always love spraying Stink Pete and defeating him for the keys for the treasure. It's a must for kids of all ages when in Hilton Head!

David H.

Yelp
Grandkids in town. Need to take them to somewhere they can have fun. This was top of the list. We had heard of the different types of pirate cruises we could take, but this was recommended highly. My wife bought the kids pirate swords. Highly recommended. They offer many things to purchase such as hats, shirts, food and beverages. They allow you to borrow the vests and sashes needed to look like a true swashbuckler. Our host was "Salty". Between her, the first mate and the captain, they captivated the mostly under 10 kids. Great script and really appeals to the young ones. Ages 3-8 are recommended, but younger and older are still good. Total trip was about 1 hr 15 - 1 hr 30 minutes. Stinky Pete is a featured character and the act plays out like it would on Broadway. Kids love soaking Stinky Pete with the high pressure water cannons. Almost to a fault where they didn't even notice the passing dolphins. They pick up some lost "Rum" (iced tea?) as well as the treasure from the lost treasure map that one of the parents was hiding. All kids get a ton of treasure including coins and rings. Too much fun for the kids. For the parents, it was a great boat trip toward Defuskie Island. No bathroom on the ship. Highly recommend.

Deb G.

Yelp
This cruise with the pirates was great fun. Our twin 5 yr olds loved it. The crew was fabulous and never a dull moment. Well worth the money.

Micki Y.

Yelp
There's just no better outing for kids and families. The staff are amazing and friendly, the concept of the adventure is great, and the boat experience is the perfect journey for a fun and unique outing.

Blair B.

Yelp
We took our three year old on this adventure and he had a ball. The crew made it really fun for all- prior to boarding the ship the kids get pirate names, pirate gear to wear and pirate face paint/tattoos. You are out on the water just long enough to want to get back in the shade as it is very very hot on the water. There is no bathroom on the boat so make sure you go before you board, and bring lots of sunscreen and water! The kids get to squirt a bad guy pirate with a water cannon, find buried treasure and learn pirate speak. All of the kids had a ball.

S J.

Yelp
This was such a great experience for our family. Our kids LOVED it and we made some awesome memories. The staff was awesome too. Everyone was so kind. They let the kids dress up. They put face paint and temporary tattoos on all the kids which was a huge hit. We did the late cruise which was perfect because it wasn't super hot. Highly recommend it for families with younger kids.

Melissa C.

Yelp
Just finished our trip with our 3 year old son and 5 year old daughter. We all had a WONDERFUL time!! "Squirt" was full of energy and kept the kids entertained throughout the whole trip. Was very impressed that the adventure was more than just a boat ride. The fun began before boarding the boat, with face painting, tattoos, and pirate dress up accessories. The kids loved spraying "Stinky Pete" with the water cannons, drinking the pirate "grog", and getting their very own stash of the pirate treasure. Highly recommend this adventure to all families!

Jes M.

Yelp
The price was great and the show was great too! But if you have older kids on the recommended age range they might get bored. BUT they will love the water cannons and pirate booty! There is a shaded seating area for the adults that come and is very interactive with the adults as well.

Zen D.

Yelp
Awesome fun time for the kiddos, and the adults too! So fun to watch your kids go on this interactive pirate cruise with a crew of enthusiastic friendly pirates that lead the way on a maritime adventure with a great pirate theme. Would really recommend them if you are visiting!

Eric W.

Yelp
Perfect family adventure for 3 year olds to 7 year olds. This trip was the highlight of our vacation for our 6 year old. The adventure was about 90 minutes, its like they know that after 90 minutes my child will start to melt down. They kept all the kids very busy, and enchanted the entire time. Parents could be involved a lot if they wanted, or just sit back and enjoy the looks on the children's faces. Plenty of of surprises and plot twists. On a side note, we saw "Captain Bones" in a store the next day, and he went right back into character for my son, and he loved it. What a wonderful person.

Courtney V.

Yelp
Our kids had such a great time with Pirates of Hilton Head. Highly recommend getting the bigger package for the kiddies!

Danielle C.

Yelp
Our 5 year old grandson LOVED the pirates. He won't put down his sword! Definitely the highlight of his trip. Thanks to the crew for making each child feel special!

John W.

Yelp
A very kid friendly and fun adventure. We recently went on a windy and colder day. The crew was well prepared and very accommodating both on land and at sea. The creativity, enthusiasm, and crowd interaction by the crew was excellent. The well designed clues and water cannons had the kids talking about it long afterwards. Kudos to "Squirt," "Shrimp," "Captain Bones," and "Stinky Pete" for a fantastic experience.

Jesse B.

Yelp
This was such an amazing experience for my kids! They loved every minute of it and soaked it up. The Capitan was hilarious as was all the other crew, but he made it fun for the parents as he cracked side jokes with us while the kids did their pirate adventure. All the jokes, pirate decorations and what not were just a added bonus. Worth every penny! My son has been pretending to be a pirate everyday since.

Munsey P.

Yelp
We all had a great tome! The crew had Great energy and the narrative of finding Stinky Pete was great, interactive, and held the attention of the kids and parents alike! Even our 13 year old had a great time making sightings and shooting the water cannon! A bonus was we were even able to see dolphins! A bonus is the "swag" was very very reasonable in prices so the kids were able to go In gear with the foam swords, pirate hats, and vests! Thank you to the female pirate who helped the kids sing dance and make an amazing memory and Stinky Pete who made them laugh! One of the best parts on our trip to Hilton Head!

A.K. B.

Yelp
Great! Our (barely) 3 year-old was a little overwhelmed at first but Pirate Squirt knew exactly how to pull him in and he had a blast. We're still talking pirate talk on the way home. Highly recommend it!

Melissa V.

Yelp
My son had an awesome time! Crew were fun and interactive with the kids. My son hasn't stopped talking about Stinky Pete for hours. It was totally worth the money.

Heather P.

Yelp
My 4 year old loved this adventure & can't stop talking about Stinky Pete. The crew were all excellent!! Giving it 3 stars because I've had other friends recommend other pirate trips (not on HHI) where the kids sang & danced instead of so much sitting. For $30/ticket, water while on board the boat should have been provided. We went on the first morning cruise and it was very hot, no breeze. Be prepared with water and bring along any pirate gear you have otherwise plan to spend $$$ for pirate stuff before boarding. Ideal age is probably 3-7, older kids seemed a little bored. TIPS: Only 1 parent needs to be on the ship, kids are separated entire time so not worth spending the extra $ on a ticket. Groupon is the same price as the website, just buy directly from the company.

Lance R.

Yelp
Meh, it is good for kids 4-10 and not any older. At $30.00 a person it is a great money maker for the owner but not economical for a group of 5. The crew are entertaining within the range they are provided.

Pam B.

Yelp
When I asked my nephew (6), what he is favorite thing was on the trip. He said this! In fact, as soon as he was done with the cruise he asked to do it again. It was an absolute blast. It is directed towards the kids but they involve the adults a little too. I had a blast watching the show they put on and watching my nephew have a blast. The staff are amazing and funny. Captain, Squirt, Seadog, and Stinky Pete were so much fun! When I called to book it the lady had opened a 7:30am cruise because the others were booking so fast. I had my concerns that the cruise wouldn't fill up with it being so early and that my nephew wouldn't have as much fun if there were only a few kids on there. She assured me it would book up. She emailed me that night telling me that she knew I was concerned and that it book. It was awesome of her to remember and email me the night before just to let me know. I would recommend a 7:30 cruise...it was perfect weather (we had taken a dolphin cruise at 2pm the day before and about melted) AND don't forget to bring some cash! You have to pay $6 to enter the area and you will want to tip the pirates!

Jessica C.

Yelp
We boarded the Black Dagger on a Thursday at 3 pm at the end of June. My 3 year old loved it!! The crew made it very fun and interactive for all of the children aboard. A few of the parents get involved... Just enough to make the kids laugh. Definitely get the sunblock out and lay it on thick. Bring a cold drink too, it was hot and even when the boat is moving it's not very fast. There is a little gift shop just before you board, so bring a bit of money. The additional charge to add the shirt and the flag was a great surprise for my son.

Cheri R.

Yelp
This was our third year doing a pirate adventure. Our son talks about it all year until we get back to Hilton Head to do it again. Squirt is the best at getting the kids excited and involved. The boat is perfect size and looks like a true pirate ship! They are great at making all the kids, no matter what age, feel included. We will continue to come back every year! As long as "stinky Pete" is still out there stealing treasure!

Marsha H.

Yelp
Amazing experience. Went there with 1.5 and 3.5 year old boys. They loved it. The staff was fabulous and way more energy than I thought possible. They made it interactive and fun. We had a lil rain on our tour but it didn't seem to bother anyone. Tip: unless you want to buy a sword and pirate gear bring your own!

Tamika M.

Yelp
Customer service is terrible. Staff is not helpful at all. Don't waste your money here. There are other pirate ships in this area or within an hour of here that are more willing to work with you and more customer service oriented!

Anthony H.

Yelp
They do a great job with this cruise. We took our 2.5 yr old and he loved it. They do a great job of keeping the kids involved and interested. It was a good amount of time on the boat, with very little "down time." Highly recommend for at least 2-5 yr olds.

R M.

Yelp
If you've got kids in the 3 to 10 age range, a trip on the Black Dagger will be worth the doubloons. The crew was funny, enthusiastic, and really tried to make all the kids feel included. Highlights: Sea battle with Stinky Pete, sword fight on the bow, and the handful of booty from a treasure chest yoinked from the sea. Bring water, sunscreen, and cash for tips - the crew deserve it. We come to Hilton Head once a year, and this is the activity our pirate will be talking about for the rest of the summer.

Patrick M.

Yelp
If you have kids under 10 this is a can't miss, they will have a blast. The staff was great and length of the trip was perfect.

Joe P.

Yelp
Kids had a great time. The crew was very friendly and spirited. Use the code on their website for free flags.

Brittany S.

Yelp
We took our two boys (6 and 3) and their female cousins (6 and 5) to the Pirates of Hilton Head on the morning cruise. The staff are great and super committed to staying in character! It was, by far, the best activity for young kids on the island or surrounding area. The staff kept the kids engaged the entire time. We were all particularly impressed with the way that Stinky Pete got completely and utterly soaked by both sides of the boat. The staff really makes sure that ever child has a turn. The treasure at the end was great and they really allowed the kids to get a lot of loot to take home! My only criticism is that my little guys were kind of intimidated at first by the pirates barking orders. Ha! Overall, a must do for parents with small kids. Bring sunscreen!!

Mabel M.

Yelp
I did not quite know what to expect, but thought this looked like a fun adventure for my kids. They had a blast and the crew kept them engaged for the entire adventure.

E Caroline W.

Yelp
My 3 year old grandson loved the adventure. Wonderful staff kept all the kids entertained.

Patty S.

Yelp
This cruise exceeded my expectations. My kids had a blast and talked about it for the rest of the trip. Kids are given pirates names, face paint and tattoos. The ship takes them around the bay finding clues in the water along the way and eventually find the buried treasure. The 2 pirates leading the cruise (Cubby and Squirt) couldnt have been better with the kids. All the kids (and adults) had a blast. I would 100% recommend this cruise to anyone with kids visiting Hilton Head.

Josh W.

Yelp
Highly recommended!! My 5 year old daughter and I sailed with the Pirates of Hilton Head this summer and she is still talking about Stinky Pete. The entertainment for the children is non-stop. The crew is fun and interactive, and seem to genuinely love their job. There is also a nice shaded area in the back of the ship for the parents to enjoy the views and watch the children play. Will do again!

Yngwie M.

Yelp
Both kids (4 and 6) enjoyed it. It was fun. The costumes could me a little more authentic. :) Poor "Stinky Pete" has to go out there and get sprayed with water cannons 4 times a day. LOL.

Michele S.

Yelp
If you have kids that love pirates, they'll love this! It's silly. It's goofy. And the kids will talk about this long after your Hilton Head vacation is over. Our son went last year and begged to go again this year (he's 8 years old now). I recommend that only one or two adults accompany the kids... it's not really for the parents unless you just like to watch the kids having a good time (which is totally fun!) ...but adults really just sit and chill on the boat. The ride is nice though. And the performers work very hard to keep the kids excited... they dance and sing and keep the kids happy. There's silly stuff to be found in the water (grog -- the kids love it)... silly treasure to be found (and plenty of it)... and they get to shoot Stinky Pete with water guns. Is this a history lesson? No. Is it something kids will remember and thank you for? Yes.

Sharon Y.

Yelp
We attended on my son's 9th birthday. Squirt was awesome! She really made the experience for us. The kids had a great time and it was so much more than we expected.

Vicky P.

Yelp
The kids had a great time. There wasn't a lot of down time. The "pirate crew" did a good job making sure all the kids were able to participate and the parents did not need to be involved. We could just sit back and just watch the kids have fun. It's not for parents, it's for kids. So in all fairness, I asked my children (7 & 9 years old) to rate this cruise. They gave it 4 stars because they say they have done other things that are more fun. Fair enough.

Mike R.

Yelp
Great experience for our 4 and 2 year old boys. The staff and crew did a great job and we're exceptionally friendly and helpful. Especially so, even after we missed out first board time, due to our error. They added us to a later cruise and everyone had a great time. Highly recommend this.

Lara B.

Yelp
We took our 3.5yo and 5.5yo daughters on the Black Dagger, and we had a blast! My husband even got in on the act (he "stole" the treasure map). We bought a Groupon that included a bandana and pirate flag, and you had your choice of colors (red or black bandana and traditional black or pink princess pirate flag), which was great. The price of admission includes a tattoo and face painting. You can purchase a Nerf-style sword for $5, and you can purchase bandanas and flags, too, but I didn't notice the price since they were included in our admission. There's a short lesson in pirate speak before you board the boat, then once aboard, they cover safety rules in a fun way. The entire event was about 90 minutes, and there were no lulls in the action. There was no opportunity to get bored! The staff was fun...and very patient with a couple of rambunctious boys. The kids seemed to love looking for the clues, and the captain circled around everything so kids on both sides of the boat got a chance to find the clues/take a shot at Stinky Pete. All in all, we were not disappointed. I would point out a few things... First, if you don't already know, it will cost you $6 to enter Sea Pines if you aren't staying there already. I hate when people use that as a mark against a restaurant or other business in Sea Pines. (They all point that out on their websites if you just read to the end!) Second, be prepared that it almost certainly WILL take you LONGER to get there than you expect. We did a dry run of the trip the night before, and it took 12 minutes. The next day, traffic was ten kinds of backed up trying to get to Harbour Town, and it took over 20 minutes. So leave yourself extra time to get there (and remember that you need to be there at least 15 minutes early). Third, parking is not as easy to find as the website suggests. Also, if you plan to park inside the Greenwood gate and ride the trolley, know that the trolley only runs every 20 minutes, so plan accordingly. Fourth, parents are asked to sit separately from the little pirates. This threw off a few kids on our trip, including mine. There are some seats for parents near the kids, but you just might want to talk that over with your kids beforehand if you think they'll be nervous about that. Finally, there is very little shade (NONE for the little pirates) and no water offered on the boat. Plan accordingly!
