Pirofani Taverna

I haven’t been back to Hydra for 17 years so the last time is 2007 and I do not recall this restaurant being there although people said that it definitely was there. Friends invited me for the evening and I must say Theo the owner is an eccentric individual. His type of personality I find entertaining and fascinating. 👌 I ordered the Seabass, which was delicious just enough butter just enough lemon cooked to perfection. The potato gratin was wonderful, but because it was windy that night it turned cold naturally sooner. The salad was excellent the gigantic beans and the sauce it was in was perfect, not too oily . I will definitely be back here again and again.

All of my meals in Hydra were good. Pirofani’s was my favorite! The bass and fava beans were incredible. The white table wine was enjoyable. The location is laid back with charming cats under beautiful trees.

What a lovely surprise on our first evening on Hydra to find Pirofanis (Kamini Area). Theo singlehandedly meeted, greeted and served. The food was delicious and the evening was further enhanced by a stringed duo.

Charming setting, simple yet well chosen menu. Modest prices and wonderful classical music in the background for a change. The food well cooked and the desserts are exceptional. The owner thaws into engaging as the evening progresses. A good borrowing bookshelf inside for holiday reads. After the meal, take in the glorious after sunset glow a few yards from the restaurant over Kamini harbour.

The swordfish was not on the menu, it had just been delivered fresh in the morning. You could taste that. But the sea bras with almonds was also tender and tasty. And the chef was not to blame for the lack of mint in the chocolate mousse; he just had forgotten it that morning, he was felt exhasted this morning after the season's opening night. In short: intimate, human and of the highest quality.

A memorable meal with an engaging host. The lime pie was exceptional - make sure you leave room for it at the end of the meal! To note, the kitchen closes earlier than usual by Greek standards, we arrived at 9:30 and had to order straight away to meet last orders, so make sure you turn up early to enjoy this restaurant!
