My wife and I wandered into Pirules Garden this afternoon in the hopes of enjoying a late lunch. We sat at the bar which has a lovely view of the grounds and chatted with a sweet girl named Daniela, who was working at the bar. We shared the camotes starter which was quite delicious and unusual. My wife ordered a dish that featured three different dips (can't remember what it was called but one was guacamole), and it was very good. Feeling a bit hungry, I ordered the rack of lamb. That was a mistake. The lamb looked good but it was very disappointing, so tough I had to send it back, something I almost never do. I asked for a hamburger instead, figuring that would be safe. And yes, it was okay, but not fantastic, although they accommodated my request to add bacon. I guess the problem is that I know I can get a good hamburger for a lot less than 700 pesos at any number of places. But this was the Rosewood, so the price was no surprise. With two Coronas and a zero Heineken the bill came to 1700 pesos before tip. The setting was beautiful, the service was first rate, and our walk back through the hotel grounds was delightful, so all in all we had a pleasant time and I would return to try something other than the lamb or the hamburger. (Let me explain that at those prices I expected gourmet quality, which is why I only gave three stars for the food. Better luck next time, I suppose.)
btw, is it true that you offer a 15% discount to locals? We weren't offered this discount even though we had a lengthy conversation with Daniela about being 11 year residents of San Miguel, as well as the fact that El Brillo (that's me) makes SMA's finest bagels (and I gave her my card).
