Nature and Parks in Asheville

"Pisgah National Forest is located just outside of Asheville and serves as a point of access to the Blue Ridge Parkway. The lush green forests, streams, and waterfalls, which can be reached through any number of hikes, are breathtaking. For an educational visit, the park’s Outdoor Learning Center offers many free exhibits, classes like photography, and the chance to explore historic cabins. A picnic is always a good idea, but the forest is not far from Asheville and other small towns." - MATADOR_NETWORK

Blue Ridge Parkway this time of year with the leaves changing colors was spectacular. It's like nature's fireworks with the orange, yellow and red colors popping in the forest of green. Pisgah National Forest is beautiful Forrest with waterfalls around every corner and great hiking everywhere. Devil's Court House is the best spot for panaramic pictures of the forest from one of the highest spots we visited. Stopping at an overlook to see Looking Glass Mountain is one spot you can't miss. A beautiful smooth side mountain you can see from many overlooks in the park. Worth the drive to see the Blue Ridge Mountains anytime of the year.

Great day of hiking and enjoying nature. Fall is so beautiful in the National Forest. Tons of people out walking. Lots of people on bikes. Family friendly. Ample places to park. Tons of places to pull off and just sit with nature.

During our recent trip to Hendersonville we saw the most beautiful mountains of North Carolina with whitewater rivers, waterfalls, miles hiking trails. This is a moderate to strenuous trail…if you are out of shape. I don't recommend it to anyone with bad knees or hips nor to those who have a fear of heights. The hike is a climb of approximately 1,000 feet of elevation gain within a short distance. It can be rough, with obstacles like uneven rocks, tree branches and roots, and stairs but it is well worth it. The Looking Glass Waterfall is absolutely beautiful and serene. The park features excellent recreational activities year-round, and over a thousand miles of trails and wilderness. This park is a hiker’s dream in any season. 😍 We saw people walking their dogs and they had a bag with them for their dog’s business. Love it when dog owners are respectful and responsible. If you want to disconnect from everyday life, go to the mountains and enjoy the outdoors and everything it offers; you will love this park. We loved it and will be back next time we are in town. Highly recommend. 😍 082425

Really excited to visit Pisgah National Forest near Asheville in Western North Carolina. Pisgah is considered one of the nation's best for outdoor recreation areas! It was a very scenic/relaxing drive and “Blue Ridge Parkway” travels through large parts of Pisgah. Although, It rained on and off — and the sun played peek-a-boo. Awesome trip! Couldn’t hike any trails🥾 they were a bit too muddy, but did hike a few trails to see some of the waterfalls. Pisgah is a spectacular 500K acre forest, beautiful high peak mountains, white water rivers, water streams galore and over (400) miles of hiking trails. Nice visitors center with a lot of information about Pisgah’s history! Entrance to the forest is free — however some activities within Pisgah will charge a small fee. Will definitely circle back this fall when the leaves 🍁 begin to peak and take better pics. 😉 North Carolina is an incredibly beautiful state and Asheville Rocks! Nice eclectic Art Museum downtown, great food, shopping venues and the people are friendly. ✨🌟 Fun Fact: Pisgah received its name from a Presbyterian Minister, Reverend James Hall. Impressed by the spectacular vistas from the top of a 5700+ feet mountain. Hall named the peak after the biblical Mt. Pisgah from which Moses viewed the promise land. #NCNationalForest🪾 #NeverStopExploring🥾 #LeaveNoTrace #GetOutAndPlay🧗‍♂️ #ProtectPreserveEnjoy🌳 #HappyPlaces❤️

Absolutely beautiful forest. The mountians are so beautiful with a gentle river flowing through it. Keep in mind that the flooding in this area was severe. For a very long stretch of the road, part of the east bound lane is missing, so the road is down to just two lanes. It will take a lot longer than normal, but it is so worth it. Enjoy the slow ride, roll down the windows and take in the beauty all around!

Pisgah is waterfall heaven—easy roadside views, peaceful forest waterfalls, fun water thrills, plus rich history and epic lookout points. Perfect for a full-day outdoor adventure that mixes nature, history, and excitement. Looking Glass Falls A stunning roadside waterfall—just a short .3‑mile walk from the parking area. The 60‑ft plunge is dramatic and lush, perfect for pics and a quick refresh. Moore Cove Falls A gentle 0.7‑mile round‑trip hike leads you behind a dreamy 50‑ft waterfall tucked into a forest cove. Quiet, scenic, and a refreshing change from the crowds. Sliding Rock This natural waterslide is a total blast in summer—you sit and slide down into an 8‑ft deep, chilly pool. Lifeguards, parking, and a fun, active vibe make it memorable. Cradle of Forestry in America Explore the birthplace of America’s forestry education—rich history, woodland trails, and interpretive exhibits. A meaningful stop for nature buffs. Frying Pan Lookout Hike up to the fire tower for sweeping panoramic views of the forest and Blue Ridge Parkway. Ideal for sunset or a peaceful mountain escape.

Really cool place for outdoor activities. The entrance is $5 per person and there is so much to do. Our favorite was sliding rock and the waterfalls. Perfect for hiking. The water is more in the cold than normal, but is perfect for the summer heat. Bring water shoes and towels.

Nature's parade. Absolutely beautiful. The autumn colors were spectacular and we were there before the peak.
