Got the pepperoni peppadew and cheese pizzas and they were both delicious. You can tell fresh ingredients are used and the pizza doesn't feel too heavy. The chocolate chip cannoli was also great. Overall the vibes were good and the customer service was friendly!

Lucas Pizza – Excellent Pies with a Cozy Atmosphere, and Room to Grow on Service I recently stopped by Lucas Pizza for what turned out to be a flavorful and satisfying meal—one that reaffirmed how important great food is, and also reminded me how much the overall dining experience is shaped by thoughtful, attentive service. Tucked into a casual strip mall with easy parking, the space has a warm, relaxed energy. It's the kind of local place you want to root for: welcoming, unpretentious, and centered around what matters most—delicious pizza. 🍕 Pizza That Hits the Mark The real star here is the pizza. The crust hits that sweet spot—crispy outside, chewy inside. The sauce is vibrant without being too sweet or heavy, and the cheese is clearly high-quality, applied generously but with balance. I tried several pizzas that really stood out: Margherita Pizza – Simple and elegant. The basil was fresh, the tomato sauce flavorful, and the mozzarella melted into the crust beautifully. A go-to classic done right. Pepperoni Pizza – Crisped edges, a nice char on the bottom, and plenty of cheese. A solid, satisfying version of a crowd favorite. Specialty Pizza with Kale and Meats – A creative combination that worked surprisingly well. The kale added a bit of bite and freshness, while the savory meats grounded the whole flavor profile. Soppressata Pizza – My favorite of the night. The soppressata had just enough spice and crisped up around the edges perfectly. It added a bold, complex layer to an already great pie. Every pizza was hot, well-portioned, and clearly made with care. This is the kind of place where the food justifies sitting down for a proper meal, not just grabbing a slice and heading out. 🍺 Vibe & Ambiance The dining area is relaxed and inviting. It’s clean, casual, and feels like a friendly neighborhood spot. The lighting is warm, the layout simple but functional—nothing overly fancy, just a pleasant space to enjoy your food. It’s clear the kitchen team takes pride in what they’re doing, and the food absolutely reflects that. ⚠️ The Service – Some Areas to Improve While the food and vibe were on point, the service did present a couple of bumps. During our visit, a couple entered through a side door and sat down at an open table. Instead of gently redirecting them or offering a quick explanation, they were asked to leave. It was an unfortunate moment, especially since the restaurant wasn’t full and there was no sign of confusion or line issues. While policies are important, how they’re communicated can make all the difference. Apart from that, general service was a bit uneven. It wasn’t rude or inattentive—just slightly understaffed or undercoordinated. Water refills and check-ins took longer than expected, and a few small interactions felt a little off tempo. That said, it’s also worth noting that every place has its off moments. With a bit more front-of-house polish, Lucas Pizza could easily elevate the full experience to match the quality coming out of the kitchen. 🛠️ Suggestions for Growth To complement their strong food offering, a few light service adjustments could go a long way: Handle guest situations with a welcoming tone – A friendly “Next time please use the main entrance” would’ve preserved the experience without confrontation. Tighten service rhythm – Just a little more attention to pacing, checking in, and syncing the front-of-house with the kitchen would make things feel more seamless. Lead with hospitality – In a place where the food already shines, a small dose of warmth and grace in service can push the whole experience into five-star territory. ✅ Final Take Lucas Pizza has everything you'd want in a neighborhood favorite: top-tier pizza, a laid-back atmosphere, and a few real standouts on the menu—especially the Soppressata, Margherita, and kale-meat combo pizzas. The service could use a touch more warmth and consistency, but it's not a dealbreaker—just something to be aware of.

A must stop when we visit Staunton! The Caesar salad and pepperonis peppadew pizza are amazing (we ate one pizza there and got a second to-go) - and don’t forget a pistachio orange cannoli for dessert! Both sad and glad we live 3+ hours away (my wallet and waist would suffer too much if closer!).

The food and staff are terrific! I arrived as a single and mistakenly thought I could seat myself at the bar. Manager Heidi informed me that I needed to register at the hostess stand, which I did. After awhile she apologized for the long wait and I said I didn't mind! Twice she offered to get me a complimentary glass of wine. I thanked her but said I'd better have it with food since I was driving! Once while waiting, she sat with me and we had a fun conversation. When I was seated she said my wine was on the house! Server Manny was excellent; so attentive and efficient. I'll be back!

Driving home from Northern Va to East Tn around lunch time so decided to find some lunch. Luca has great reviews, wasn’t too far out of the way, so decided to give it a try. Waited til I was about 20 minutes away to call and place a take out order since I needed to stay on the mission to get home. When I called to place the order the nice lady explained that they only do takeout orders in person. Meaning I couldn’t call it in. Had to go inside the restaurant and place the order then go. (Not a big deal, again, lady was very nice). Got there after finding a parking spot in a busy downtown, a bit tricky itself, placed my order for the Spicy Soppressata Salami & Hot Honey pizza. After spending approximately 30 minutes there the pizza came out and was on my way. Unfortunately I didn’t realize the pizza I’d ordered doesn’t come with sauce. Didn’t realize that while driving and scoping out the menu. That being said, it’s not my thing, but it wasn’t bad by any means. I’m a sauce on my pizza kinda guy. The crust of the pizza is phenomenal. Ok experience overall.

Google
My wife and I are big fans of pizza, more so me, and I have been searching for the best pizza around since we moved back to Virginia. Pizza Luca did not disappoint! The pizza was cooked to perfection and had an amazing crunch as a pizza should! We ordered the ham and prosciutto pizza and the chicken pesto pizza—both were great! We also ordered lemon pepper wings (amazing), garlic bread and marinara (good but nothing to rave about compared against the other items we had), and the chocolate cannolis (best cannoli I’ve had in years). Amazingly, after eating everything we ordered, neither my wife or I experienced any bloating! My guess is because literally none of the food was greasy! Pizza Luca is a great addition to downtown staunton and we will be frequent patrons! If you are looking for a place for great pizza, wings, and cannolis then look no further!

Yelp
First off: I am a pizza snob. Yes. I said it. I am an absolute pizza snob. Chain pizza joints? Please. I'd rather eat mud. Poorly done local pies? More mud, please! So, imagine my utter euphoria when I encountered Pizza Luca in historic downtown Staunton. This place is an absolute win for my town and my palate--huzzah! What makes Pizza Luca outstanding? Three things: crust, sauce, toppings. Because, when you get right down to it, that's the essence of a great pie, and it's a trinity what MOST places just cannot accomplish. Start with the crust--the literal foundation of a good pizza. My pie came out hot and the crust was CRISPY! You hear that, other pizza joints?! Soggy is out! Fresh, house made, crisp, and perfectly baked is IN! Take notes! The sauce was equally well executed and perfectly seasoned. And also judiciously applied. Not soupy, not splattered on there like some culinary CSI episode. No: adeptly made and intelligently deployed. The toppings were the perfect addition to the phenomenal base of crust and sauce. I got the sausage and fennel pie and was not disappointed (I know. This review has been subtle up til now). I wouldn't call the amount generous, but it was definitely balanced and every bite was a composed bite of crust, sauce, and topping. Sometimes more is just more, and I think the kitchen understands the subtlety. PIZZA WIN!! The location is nice, open, and welcoming. The service is prompt and friendly and they are especially happy to welcome dogs and their human companions. LOCATION WIN!! My only quibble is on price, but hey: it's the post-COVID erthing be costing more world, so I can't really ding them for that. Maybe run some specials or deals here and there? Idk. I can cook. I don't manage restaurants. So imma trust the price point has been thought through and it's honest. These are good folks who run a SOLID taqueria just up the way (review sold separately), so I know they know what they're doing. My only point in raising the price issue is that it's a bit of an ouchie for a working man with a pit bull to feed, so I can't go back EVERY SINGLE DAY. Which I would, believe me. I've worked a lot of kitchens and I've made my fair share of gourmet pizza. So please trust me when I say Pizza Luca is hands down the best pie I have had in decades. No photos because I am a pig and always devour my food before my brain goes, hey! Take a good pic! So I guess you'll have to see for yourself. You're welcome.

Yelp
Ordered takeout. Loved the pizza. Legit, not big chain cardboard. Cool little spot too.

Yelp
When we arrived most of the tables were taken but we were able to find a spot. We were celebrating my husband's birthday. He got a beer and ordered a pizza with a long list of his selections. I ordered the beet and burrata salad. It was scrumptious. They also have gluten free pizzas available , which I might try on another visit. We shared the orange pistachio cannoli. It may have been the best cannoli I've ever tasted. The atmosphere was upscale casual. We were in and out in an hour. Efficient and friendly. Plan to return. Our waiter and the hostess were both charming.

Yelp
Great task g pizza and wonderful service! The crust was incredible and the atmosphere was also great. You can tell the locals love it here. We're visiting the area and it didn't disappoint! Plan to come back!

Yelp
When I heard the owner of Chicano Boy was planning to open a wood-fired pizza spot, I was immediately intrigued. Fast forward to now and I'm literally addicted, can't stop thinking about these pizzas, and am forever planning my next visit, which hasn't been a cake walk considering their operating hours have been very limited up to this point. They've been consistently slam-packed since opening just over a month ago. Hopefully soon, staffing will be more sufficient, hours will be more normal, and online/phone orders will be accommodated. In the meantime, you will find me waiting outside in the hot sun salivating like a dog alongside a block full of other hungry patrons.

Yelp
This was a great find on our drive to Virginia Beach. We stayed in Staunton to break up our drive, and were hungry for dinner. The place had a very open and airy atmosphere and the smells had us hungry quickly. The first table we passed had a really intriguing pizza with big dollops of ricotta cheese. We soon learned it was the Spicy Soppressata Salami and Hot Honey pizza. We ordered one along with a Trenton Cheese (the sauce is cooked on top of the cheese), along with an order each of the garlic bread and the cheesy bread. We are glad we got the marinara sauce, because it went perfectly with both breads. The salami and honey pizza was especially delicious. For dessert, we got the chocolate chip cannoli which had a cinnamony filling. The crunch of the outer pastry was just perfect. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Absolutely love local spots that pour their heart and soul into their work!! Big fans of Chicano Boy, so super excited when Pizza Luca opened up. We have been a half a dozen times now and have not been dissatisfied at all! Tonight, our daughter was in town from the eastern shore area. We got Caesar salad, breadsticks, wings and pizzas. All were excellent!! We chatted with locals we knew and got dessert. Such a gem!! Friendly and attentive service, cool vibes, clean bathrooms, excellent experience! We'll be back soon!

Yelp
I'm almost selfishly afraid to post as the longer we keep it a secret the better off we may be. Loved everything about this place! Friendly staff, clean atmosphere and the best food!

Cheri L.

Yelp
Fun, busy atmosphere, and great food! A generous, chewy crust, with a lot of inventive topping options. All of the staff was super friendly, and the manager was all over the place, making sure that everything ran well.

Yelp
Went on New Years Eve, place was packed and they only had seats at the bar. This is all good, no complaints. But we decided to take a couple pizzas home instead and come back to dine another day. We had PLENTY of time to watch others enjoy their meals. Did not see a dissappointed person. We watched the place basically empty while we were waiting. And it was pleasant time spent. I have no problem with diners having priority. Although we also were asked(via screen) to tip, and of course we did. We got our pizzas-and they were stone cold. Big kick in the stomach. Over $30 for 2 small pizzas that nobody could take 15 seconds to hand to us in a timely manner. Easy to believe it was a oner - but I can't believe they did not know what they handed us. Pizzas were ok, but i bet they would have been better fresh and not re-heated.

Paula L.

Yelp
Food - mine was really good, but I wasn't a fan of what others in party got. They liked it so all was good. Breadsticks were good and marinara was really good. Service was acceptable. Take your order, bring your cup, bring your food. You had to get your own refills. That's fine, but at tip time - that was supposed to be forgotten. Their default on their system was 18% min.... I'm normally a 20-25% tipper, but not when I have to serve myself. Restaurant was clean and smelled amazing with the pizza cooking.

Yelp
Great local food in Staunton. I occasionally mix things up and get something different or new. And I have been pleased, no matter what I have gotten. Servers are nice and polite. I think the owner or manager was our server one time and she was fantastic. Very down to earth. Ambiance is very fun, in or out doors.

Yelp
An astonishing experience tonight where, on what was a slow night that even with numerous empty tables at 7pm on a Saturday night, we were told that the restaurant policy was that couples could not be seated at the available 4 seat tables and that our only options were to either sit outside on a chilly evening or to wait 30 minutes for an available 2 seat table. While the practice of maximizing larger tables makes sense when it's a busy night, this was simply not the case tonight where at prime time there were numerous empty tables and no one waiting for those tables. We took our money and went elsewhere to one of the restaurants that we have been patronizing for the couple of decades that we have been in Staunton. This place has clearly communicated that they'd rather make 100% of nothing by leaving the table open than to seat a party of 2 at a larger table where they could have had the $100 we spent at another restaurant. This has me so furious, I doubt I'll ever even go back to Chicano Boy. Justin had no problem during the pandemic with begging for local support to keep him afloat, but now 5 years later the locals seemingly don't matter. . Plenty of other places in town will gladly take our money.

Yelp
Walking distance from our home in Staunton, we loved the vibrant atmosphere, the delicious green salads, and the delightful pizzas. Such an excellent addition to the neighborhood

Pam R.

Yelp
Terrific food! Great staff! Wonderful ambiance! The linguine and mussels, Caesar salad, beet and Buratta salad, margarita pizza, and rigatoni are our favorites! At lunch, the Caprese Sandwich is amazing!
google avatar

Valerie N.

Yelp
I should have taken pictures. The Caesar salad is out of this world delicious - so flavorful. My niece - who is 11 - and generally hates salads - wants to come here just the Caesar - it is that good. The pizza is really good too - the crust is really light. Enjoy it!
google avatar

Karin D.

Yelp
All the dishes were excellent. Staff were friendly and fast. Cool decor, outside seating. Loved watching the pizzas being hand tossed and self service NA drink area. Get there early in the evening because it fills up fast.
google avatar

Peter V.

Yelp
They dint take phone or internet orders, therefore I had to sit in their "waiting area" for 30 minutes to wait for two pizzas. After $40, one pizza wasn't right but I wasn't going to wait another half hour for them to get it right. Stick to the Tex Mex food. You do that right. Leave the pizza to Dominis.

Yelp
I've only had takeout. Pizza prepared and ready within 20 minutes. Delicious rich mushroom flavor and the crunch of breadcrumbs makes for a great pie.

Mona V.

Yelp
The BEST PIZZA I'VE EVER HAD! And I've been on this planet a long time! Very friendly service, and our food came out pretty quickly considering they were pretty busy. Great cozy atmosphere too!

Rebecca S.

Yelp
Love This place !!! Food is great and service is Wonderful !!! Definitely going back. Had the pesto pizza
google avatar

Bill M.

Yelp
First of all, the chicken pesto pizza we had was literally the best pizza we remember having. They have a limited beer selection (cans only), and a limited menu. The salads looked good. The pizzas only come in one size, 12 inches, but they seemed bigger than that. The service was excellent and the ambiance was also. Highly recommended.

Yelp
This restaurant is what dreams are made of I have gone several times now and ordered most everything on the menu. You cannot go wrong With your order, the Caesar salad is the best I've ever had! Pizza crust is thin, crispy, and delicious!!!! as good as pizza I've had in Florence Also, the wings and the muscle linguine are divine. Best restaurant in the area!!! Ambience, and service are spot on also!!!

Robby C.

Yelp
Hand tossed pizzas A++, Service A+, Ambiance B+, Value A-. Lovely menu options. Decor is inviting & hip, high ceiling, industrial vibe inside, and very basic picnic tables outside. Italian music would be a nice touch. Pizza Luca is now on our local restaurant rotation for sure!

Heather E.

Yelp
If you're missing Newtown Bakery--Pizza Luca is here for you! The pizza is excellent, and some of the apps and salads are straight off the Newtown menu. Get there early or be prepared to wait. It's popular!

Rex H.

Yelp
Wonderful food people Seating will be challenging in colder months but opening a take out location that will help

Kielan E.

Yelp
Dined here on Saturday last - what a blast. The pineapple and prosciutto pizza was stellar (even though I'm not usually a fan of pineapple on pizza) but the guys in the kitchen do it right! Fantastic service - we had a waitress named McKenna who was very very nice! Cannot recommend highly enough!!

Lindy G.

Yelp
Love pizza Luca! The Caesar salad is to die for. Pizza is delicious. Personally we would skip the wings.

K B.

Yelp
Food is good but I think I'll have to try something else before I can give this place 5 stars. Caesar salad was okay, caprese sandwich was just ok. $11 for half a glass of wine is outrageous. Atmosphere wise, wooden bench seats are uncomfortable. I didn't hear any music playing but I think that would have been nice. My feeling while there with two other friends was that the restaurant staff were anxious for us to pay up and leave. The restaurant was not crowded and nobody else was waiting to get in. I really don't like to be handed my check to pay when I haven't even finished half my lunch.

Brian S.

Yelp
I'm going to wait a while and give Pizza Luca time to improve, then visit and try them again, but so far the three times I've been, it's been less than impressive and makes me not want to go back. First, the good: the service has always been prompt and attentive, and the portions are generous-to-large. But most of the food just isn't good, and there are some things about food prep that really gross me out. Our most recent visit is a good synopsis. We sat at the bar, which is basically a counter set against the low partial kitchen wall, looking into the food prep area. We had a pizza, a salad, a pasta, and a side. My son ordered the pizza; he's ordered custom pizzas before and every one of them was inedible, so I told him to order off the menu, thinking it was his poor taste in toppings (which is definitely part of the issue), but this one was just as unappetizing, too. So maybe it's not just him. The side of potatoes was pretty good, albeit kind of drowned in mayo/aoli, and the salad was decent although also a bit drenched--but at least all the lettuce was fresh and clean. The pasta was way undercooked, like hard and crumbly, not just al dente, and I've never had sundried tomato pesto sauce like that; maybe it was straight from a can? It tasted like it was an ingredient, not a finished sauce. As we waited, I remarked to my wife that a lot, maybe most, of the food was being prepared just on the other side of the wall, some of it a direct line of sight from us at head level and barely out of arms reach, within easy coughing distance, some of it set for long periods of time in that position. Moments later, as if to prove my point, a couple sat beside us and started coughing openly without even attempting to cover their mouths. The food in front of them was definitely getting sprayed with cough particles. I am astonished the inspectors have approved this layout of seating/food prep. They need to put up plexiglass or something, at a minimum. So in summary, someone with good taste needs to review their menu (or make sure it's being cooked as intended), they need quality control, and they need to rearrange their prep area for basic sanitation. As-is it's one of my least satisfactory restaurants in Staunton; I will give it another try after a delay and revise this review if it's improved.

Craig F.

Yelp
New restaurant. Owned by the same group as Chicano Boy.Excellent in all aspects. Pizza is great. Cesar salad is a must have. Homemade croutons. Very generous portions. Service is very friendly and attentive. One of my favorite places to eat in Staunton. A real gem.

Cheryl M.

Yelp
Our first visit here. The layout is open and welcoming. Fantastic staff. Many custom pizzas to try or you can build your own. 12" pizza size. Wings. Calzones which I can't wait to come back for. Orange and pistachio or chocolate classic. The same owner of Chicano Boy which is amazing on it's own. Very unique flavors I'd never put together and they're perfection. Hope u can stop in soon. Also, they do have call in order available. Just waiting to update. Were told on the way out. A must try!!

Val K.

Yelp
Busy in a Tuesday night, but seemed like a fun atmosphere! The ok my pizza to go and it was outstanding!

Kristin G.

Yelp
First time here, and from all the glowing reviews I've heard since it opened, it had a lot to live up to. Did not disappoint. We got the pepperoni peppadew pizza, Caesar salad and the rosemary and caramelized onion wings. Everything was so delicious, and the service was fantastic. We went for lunch, and I already want to go back for dinner tonight!
