This pizzeria lays claim to inventing the pizza Margherita for Queen Margherita in 1889.
My husband and I sat outside on the wooden deck being serenaded by a live singer and guitarist. They even played "That's Amore!" as we were eating our pizzas.
Just imagine biting into an authentic Neopolitan pizza to the lyrics...
...When the moon hits your eye like a big-a pizza pie
That's amore
When the world seems to shine like you've had too much wine
That's amore
Bells'll ring ting-a-ling-a-ling, ting-a-ling-a-ling
And you'll sing "Vita bella"
Hearts'll play tippi-tippi-tay, tippi-tippi-tay
Like a gay tarantella
When the stars make you drool joost-a like pasta fazool
That's amore
When you dance down the street with a cloud at your feet, you're in love
When you walk in a dream but you know you're not dreamin', signore
'scusa me, but you see, back in old Napoli, that's amore...
MELTED! Loved every minute of that dinner.
We ordered, of course, the Margherita with tomato, fiordilatte, and basil for €7.50 and the Quattrocento Stagioni (each quarter slice of this pizza had a single different topping-tomato, fiordialatte cheese, proscutto, and baby clams) for €10. The Quattrocento was a but to rich and the sauce on the Margherita not too impressive but loved the flavor from the grilled basil.
Overall definitely come here for the atmosphere but not necessarily to the best Neopolitan pizzas.
