Roughly once a month, sometimes more in summer, less in winter, we drive 100 miles to Pizzeria Ida. It is our favorite restaurant. The food is delicious, the ingredients are hand selected from local and Italy, the chefs and server are at the top of their game and the experience is amazing. The rotating menu is relatively small and each time we go we discover something new that we wouldn’t have chosen as a first choice, but it turns out to be delicious. Our go-to’s are the Brooklyn traditional (when eating in), the plain square (with garlic or nduja when available) (for take-out or eating-in). They are simply amazing pizza—flavorful with the most amazing crunchy, chewy, soft-in-the-middle crust. The pies are huge and we always have leftovers. The crunch in the crust the next day after being reheated is better than most pizzas from other places fresh out of the oven. Try any chicken cutlet variety when available—the flavor and texture are spectacular. The Italian, which is not my usual go-to hoagie, at Ida it is unbelievable. Baked desserts are always delicious. Haters will hate and find things to complain about but if you want to have an amazing culinary experience, go here. If the prices are not affordable, go less often. But if you go, you will be delighted by the explosion of flavors and textures. And the next day, you will start planning, or saving up, so you can go again.
