First, reservations are recommended for this tiny restaurant. Also note that smoking is not allowed until 9pm. This has been stated in at least one prior review and the reason why diners know this is because there is signage hanging in the restaurant stating "smoking only after 9pm." The great thing is that the restaurant does not smell like smoke.
Second, the food here is delicious. We were greeted by the owner for our 7pm reservation. He kindly took the time to explain the specials which were written only in German. He suggested that we order a couple of dishes and share them, so we did.
We ordered the diavola pizza which was good. It could have used more sauce in my opinion but the pepperoni was spicy (and by that, I mean regular spiced pepperoni that you would find on any pizza in the US). Following our pizza was our tagliatelle ala ragu. Yum. It was so delicious. Having just been in Bologna two months prior, I was impressed that this dish, served in Austria, was at the quality of what we had in Bologna or better. The jury is still out on that.
Third, the service was OK. English was perfectly spoken but the main problem was that there was one server for the entire restaurant which is a problem. Additionally, the owner and a woman were the only two cooking, so dishes came out slowly and were not timed correctly for large groups. For example, there were two groups of six people on either side of our table and the dishes, delivered one at a time, were spaced 2-3 minutes apart. If you were the unfortunate person to get your dish first AND if you felt it necessary to wait until the entire table was served, then you would definitely be eating cold food. My advice if you are with a large group is to start eating as soon as you get your food - it's not impolite to do so. The chef would never tell you that his/her dish is better after it's sat on the table for 10 minutes cooling off. So, eat. Eat to your heart's content.
