Yelp
I stayed in an AirBnB in Barcelona that just happened to be about 75 feet from Pla, so the first night there, looking for dinner, our party of three just wanted dinner soon and without much walking, and Yelp located this place as close - boy was it! In we walk, it's a Thursday night around 10pm, maybe a little earlier, and we are immediately seated. The atmosphere is really nice, not too loud, but energetic. The lighting is on the lower side, more of a date place in my mind, but certainly fine for any occasion. Our waiter comes by to introduce himself and right away his warmth as a human being is apparent. Not pushy or smarmy, just genuinely friendly and helpful. He's a big guy, maybe a tad over six feet tall, bald, tattooed, and muscular, so one might get the impression he'd be the bouncer type or part of a rough motorcycle gang, but instead he surprises you with playfulness, adept handling of food preferences, great suggestions for drinks, and confidence about the menu. He was helpful for us newbies to Barcelona in determining how much food to order, and it was just right. One thing I have to note is we ordered a pitcher of sangria - something my wine friends and my family would be surprised about - but we were assured that their sangria was the best in the world and I have to say that our waiter was right about that. Certainly the best I've ever had, and damn good, too. We had another pitcher. The food was all good, not wildly so, but certainly I'd go back for the food as well as the drinks and service. We had a very nice experience here and the only reason we didn't go back during our four days in Barcelona was - duh! - there are limitless options for dining in the city and I had to try as many as possible. Note that it's not as food-fancy as similarly priced places - good presentation but not the fine attention to detail of, say, a Michelin starred meal. More of a solid choice kind of place, tucked away in a quiet street and probably with no reservation needed. Get the sangria!
