This is one of the starting points for those who want to explore the city of Lyon.
Although it is not as well known as the nearby VIP square (I am referring, of course, to Place Bellecour), this one is far more beautiful, especially for lovers of Baroque architecture.
Many tourist attractions are located directly on the square (l'Hôtel de Ville, Musée des Beaux-Arts, and the Bartholdi Fountain) or in the immediate vicinity: the beautiful Place de la Comédie, the imposing Palais de la Bourse, several historic stairways (notably the Escalier Mermet and the Escalier de la rue Pouteau), the Saint-Bernard Cathedral, the odd building known as the Traboule et Cour des Voraces, and the famous Amphitheatre of the Three Gauls (although you can skip this one, as there is really nothing to see).
