Such an unexpected delight! Was walking past the place on our way to see the river and saw a few people coming out and decided to explore it. So glad we did! The impressionist paintings were amazing as was the architectural aspects of the structure itself. Very much worth your time.

Place du Capitole is the heart of Toulouse and home to the city's beautiful town hall building. The square is lively and surrounded by restaurants and cafés—perfect for relaxing, people-watching, or enjoying a meal outdoors. It’s a great spot to soak in the atmosphere of the city.

A visit to Toulouse isn't complete without spending some time at Place du Capitole. This square is the absolute heart of the city, and you can feel the energy the moment you step into it. The architecture is stunning—the pink bricks of the buildings glow beautifully in the sunlight, and the magnificent Capitolio building is a must-see.

This is the central square of Toulouse, serving as the heart of civic life and local government since the 12th century. Its name is derived from the Roman word "Capitolium (Capitoline Hill)", reflecting the city's ancient roots. Dominating one side of the square is the Capitole building, which houses Toulouse's City Hall and the Théâtre du Capitole, the city's main opera house. The square regularly hosts open-air markets, seasonal festivals, and public events — including a popular Christmas market in winter and concerts or cultural activities in the summer.

Yelp
Gorgeous square, the centrepiece of Toulouse centre, and of course, all roads lead to Capitole, so it's not hard to find. We used to use it for navigation, more than anything, there's not actually much to do in the square itself, as most of the bars/shops are tourist traps. However, just off the main square there are a LOT of hidden gems which I will review in due course! Lovely architecture, incredibly pretty (and hot) in summer.

Yelp
The Capitol Square is the Centre of Tououse & is ideal for exploring the many churches, art galleries & museums. A land train will take you around with a print out in English if required. a visit to the City of Space is well worth a visit. The tourist Information bureau will explain which Metro & bus you take to get there. It is usually possible to take a river cruise but the River Garonne was too high during our visit so we sailed on the Canal du midi instead. Toulouse is famous for violets & perfume, violet tea, bubble bath, soap etc are for sale. Cafes, crepe stalls, icecream stalls & baguettes kiosks are in abundace. If you enjoy Culture Toulouse is a must. A City card can be purchased for 10 Euros from the tourist Information for discount on the land train, River Cruises, museums, art galleries restaurants & Hotels . We flew to Toulouse from the Leeds/Bradford Airport with Jet 2.com. The Capitole square is filled with market stalls on certain days, Protest marches on others. Unfortunately there are no doggy bins so watch where you walk!
