Plachutta Stammhaus Hietzing

Overrated. The food was good. The boiled beef was tender. Portion is generous. We ordered the famous beef soup which others were offered pancakes at the end. And we came this. We didn’t receive it. 😔 (Even though the picture on the menu we showed him has it but they didn’t serve us). Water was never refilled. We asked for the bill and it never came. We had to walk up to the server 3 times to ask to pay so we can leave. After all this experience, the server still asked us straight forward to leave tip on the machine. We paid tip but regretted coming here regardless of warning from previous visitors that this is a tourist trap. Please do not take this as an insult, me and my friend have an honest opinion that the famous beef soup tastes just like typical Vietnamese Pho noodle bowl, just without fish sauce. I wouldn’t say we don’t recommend this place. The food is good. Just don’t expect anything more than regular restaurant would do.

I went there three days ago. The dishes I ordered were great. When I came there, I told the waiter that day was my friend’s birthday, and asked him recommendations for dessert. He just gave us the dessert menu later, he didn’t even say Happy birthday to my friend. Later he served us the traditional beef soup, while he didn’t tell us how to eat it, as tourists, we had no idea what the sauces are for. Although the manager told us later, the waiter was busy with serving the table near us with the same soup. We didn’t enjoy the night, the service was extremely terrible.

Visitors be warned. We echo the concerns by other reviewers that this could be a scam for tourists. The food was alright and the atmosphere at the restaurant was lovely, albeit the slow service on the evening we visited. That didn’t bother us and we enjoyed ourselves. Until the bill arrived. The restaurant tried to overcharge us by making us pay for a second portion of the beef soup, when we had only order one and confirmed that multiple times. The bill was only corrected after we insisted to speak with the manager twice and had to deal with a few different staff who told us to pay for the second portion that we did not order. It was odd after this unpleasant exchange over the bill and the waiter spilled food on one of the diners in our group that the manager expected us to tip them. When we declined, the manager replied loudly “so no tips??”. We have been living in Europe long enough and we are always happy to tip the staff when dining out but this was an exception. It was only after we left the restaurant that we read similar experience by other reviewers. We’re unsure whether it was because we were the only Asians that evening so we appeared to be easy targets. We paid about 200 euros for 4 pax, we doubt we will return and would rather go somewhere else.

Very nice restaurant with delicious Austria food. Beef soup is a must. Goose liver also tastes delicious.

Food was tasty and authentic. Service was a bit too relaxed for the surroundings and language was a bit of a barrier. But overall our meal and experience was positive.

Food is good. Service is bad. Our waiter was pretty rude. When we asked questions about how to order, he didn't give us much information and left us still very confused. When he removed empty plates from our table, the knife got stuck with the plate and fell off the table almost hitting our lap. No apologies at all. He never checked on us on how we're doing and took forever to get his attention when we needed something. When paying, he didn't say a single word and just took my card and did the transaction, not asking how's the food or anything. And after finishing paying he just left without saying a word (and we did say thank you). Overall, ok for a one time try (for the food part) but prepared for bad services.

Plachutta Hietzing is the perfect place to enjoy an excellent Tafelspitz in an elegant and well-maintained setting. The meat is tender, and the sides are expertly prepared, showcasing authentic Viennese flavors.
