I’ve Lived on the French Riviera for 18 Years—This Is the Most Charming Town You Should Visit

"A seasonal private beach club on Plage des Marinières, this waterside favorite is made for lingering lunches and lazy afternoons, with rows of inviting sun loungers, flowing Provence rosé, and a cool soundtrack of summer tunes; reservations are essential in peak months." - Chrissie McClatchie Chrissie McClatchie Chrissie McClatchie writes about travel, wine, and yachting from her home on the Côte d’Azur, where she has lived for nearly two decades. Living on the French Riviera for two years has made me quite picky with beach clubs — but Casa Soleia honestly surprised me in the best way. • The location is just stunning: nestled in beautiful Villefranche-sur-Mer, right by the water with a peaceful, postcard-perfect view of the bay. It feels exclusive but not pretentious — a perfect escape without going far. • The design & atmosphere are exactly what I love: elegant but relaxed, with soft natural tones, comfortable seating, and music that’s just loud enough to set the mood without disturbing the moment. You don’t feel like you’re in a “scene,” but you still feel like you’re somewhere special. • The staff were so warm and genuinely kind. I’ve read some reviews complaining about the service, but from my experience — it was the opposite. Everyone was smiling, attentive without being overbearing, and the energy felt light and welcoming. We even had a small issue with one dish — nothing major, but the restaurant handled it so gracefully, removing it from the bill right away without us saying a word. That kind of class is rare, and it made me trust the place even more. • The food was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully plated. Everything we ordered tasted just as good as it looked. • The cocktails were a real highlight — big glasses (thank you!), perfectly balanced, not watered down. You could tell they were made with care. • Price-wise, it’s exactly what I’d expect from a beach restaurant of this level — but here, I actually felt the experience matched the price. Honestly, I came in expecting “just another beach club,” but left feeling like I discovered a place I want to return to again and again — with friends, on dates, or even solo with a book and a spritz.

Absolutely obsessed with this place! Not only is it gorgeous, but it’s also incredibly well-priced for a beach club. The food was out of this world — everything we ordered was delicious, but the red shrimp carpaccio, chicken, and octopus were next level. Honestly, you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. The beach chairs are set right on the sand with stunning views, and they range from just $50–$80, which is such a steal compared to other clubs in the area. I don’t swim, but the water was easy to get to — shallow, not too rocky, and super inviting. We loved it so much we even came back for dinner… and plan to go back every single day. That’s how good it was!

Great spot for a lil sunset dinner! We made a reservation at 7:30pm and it was a nice ease from day to sunset to night. Food was great. We had catch of the day — which was a grilled sea bass. Super fresh and delicious. The zucchini side was also amazing. Cocktails were delicious but very light. Beautiful space and view. Bathroom was spacious and very clean as well! Definitely on a pricier end but reasonable for their spot and atmosphere.

This was my first experience at a beach club and it was incredible. Very relaxed and easy going atmosphere. I read other reviews which mentioned service was slow and difficult to come by which could not be further from the truth. Sami helped us and was very kind. Lunch was delicious at the restaurant and drinks were fantastic. There was light music played once the restaurant opened but not loud enough to drown out the sound of the waves. If I’m back in the area I will be returning.

*Located between Villefranche-sur-Mer and Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat My husband and I had a truly unforgettable experience at Casa Soleia. From the moment we arrived, everything felt special, warm, inviting, effortlessly beautiful. The staff went above and beyond, our waitress was incredibly kind and even helped me find the perfect table with a view. We felt so taken care of, like we were being welcomed into someone’s elegant yet cozy summer home. Now let’s talk about the food: the pistachio tiramisu deserves its own Michelin star. Creamy, rich, perfectly balanced, one of the best desserts I’ve ever had. The water was insane 😍 The entire atmosphere is extraordinary: breezy, sunlit, stylish without being pretentious. Whether you’re stopping by for a leisurely lunch or a golden-hour dinner, it’s the kind of place that stays with you. We left already dreaming of coming back. ✨ Getting there is easy: It’s located on the beautiful route between Villefranche-sur-Mer and Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, two of the most charming towns in the South of France. You can walk from either town, take a short taxi, or even arrive by bus (Line 15). Parking is available nearby if you’re driving. Let’s talk about the prices: Prices are fair for the Riviera: €60 front row deckchair €50 deckchair 2nd and 3rd rows 180€ bed for 2 people (1 glass of prosecco is included per person) Towel and parasol included in the prices. Additional towel: €10 Additional parasol: €8 The pistachio tiramisu (it was huge) €16 We’ll absolutely return every time we’re in the Riviera. Casa Soleia isn’t just a restaurant, it’s a memory waiting to happen. 💛

Best beach of the French Riviera ! The view from the restaurant and the sunbeds is breathtaking. It’s the most beautiful spot and definitely the sunniest one. The food is delicious, special mention for the eggplant rigatoni and the beef tagliata. The team working there is lovely and very responsive. I truly loved this place, and it will become my go-to spot for the whole summer. Congratulations to Casa Soleia team. Don’t hesitate to go, highly recommended!

By far the best beach club I’ve been to in a while in the south of France. The staff is incredible, attentive and so kind. The food is truly exceptional. And the design of the place is so beautiful!! Would highly recommend coming! (Try the feta dish if you eat it’s amazing!)

I was genuinely excited to spend my day here. I rushed over to reserve a spot and was grateful they held the last seat for me. The view is stunning, the food is solid, and the staff was friendly. That said, the service left a lot to be desired. As a solo guest hoping to enjoy a relaxing afternoon, I ended up having to flag down staff for just about everything, menus, ordering, even getting a glass of wine after ordering it 30 min prior and an umbrella that never arrived. I went up to the waiters multiple times throughout the day to place orders and felt more like an inconvenience than a guest. From 1:30 to 7, I enjoyed the atmosphere (and did, how could you not with that view and a few swims in the sea?), but the service made it a little tough to enjoy at times. This isn’t my first European summer, I know the pace is more relaxed, but this felt less like leisurely fun and more like being overlooked. Just something to keep in mind.
