Any valuation of this beach really depends on what you are willing to do. If you intend to swim you need some courage and experience with hefty waves. I was at this beach twice and decided not to chance it. So did most of the people staring at the water. There is also a price tag associated with parking as it's not a free public parking. Nevertheless it tends to be quite crowded.

Grande Anse Beach, on the west side of Basse Terre in Guadeloupe, is a breathtaking destination that rivals some of the best beaches in the Caribbean—and even Costa Rica. With its light-colored sand, pristine waters, and gentle waves, it offers an idyllic setting for relaxation and exploration. The beach features swimmable, deeper waters that are easily accessible from the shore, making it perfect for both casual wading and full-on swimming. Backed by a line of stately palm trees, there’s ample shade to escape the midday sun while still enjoying the seaside ambiance. Convenience is a key part of the experience, with nearby restaurants and food trucks offering plenty of dining options. Additionally, the facilities—such as foot-washing stations and bathrooms—are a welcome touch that makes a day at Grande Anse all the more enjoyable. That said, it’s worth noting that the beach can get quite busy during the holidays, especially around midday. Arriving early or later in the afternoon may help you avoid the crowds. Overall, Grande Anse Beach is a must-visit for anyone in Guadeloupe. It’s the kind of place where natural beauty meets thoughtful amenities, creating a memorable day by the sea.

We came in the afternoon hoping there would be less people and more parking...no such luck, but we managed. The beach is one of the most scenic that we've been to in Guadeloupe and well worth it. Unfortunately we were staying about an hour from here and the drive was so twisty and steep none of us were willing to do it again. I would recommend staying in this area if a great beach is a must.

This is a great beach but please be aware this can be dangerous. The beach itself is sandy and a very steep angle so the rollers coming in pretty much bounce back on to the next incoming wave. So every so often these crash into each other giving a spectacular explosion of water, but, if your in the bad spot when it happens....well people have been seriously hurt here. Great amenities nearby with everything you could need for your visit including large coconut trees and almond trees offering cover.

Very nice beach, wide and long, very pretty! Water was steep and waves are strong, could also use a little more shade.

This is likely the most beautiful beach on the west side of Basse Terre. A long stretch of sand, quite different in color than in Grande Terre. Not really for kids as the water gets deep quite fast and there are waves. You need to be careful when getting out of the water so you don't get pulled in back. We only went there at the end of the day, but will surely visit it if we come back. Plenty of parking found there.

A beach as you see in the movies. White Sand, blue water and palm trees. There is plenty of room in the shade to sit down. There are toilets and showers. Unfortunately the restaurants at the beach are partially closed or have unclear opening times, so it might be worth it to bring some snacks.

So far my favorite beach in Guadeloupe- the one that with clear water allowing you to see underwater! Go toward the right side of the beach near the rock area to have better scenic under water.
