Plaka Estiatorio Announces It Will Close at the End of June - Eater Seattle

"After 11 years serving up souvlaki, seafood, and sizzling saganaki, Ballard’s Plaka Estiatorio will permanently close on June 30. The family that runs the restaurant — Nia, Katerina, and Yiannis Tziotis — recently made the announcement on Facebook, expressing gratitude to their customers, adding that they hoped to open up a new chapter “in the near future.” No reason was given for the upcoming closure, and there’s no word yet on what will take over the location. Eater Seattle reached out to Plaka for further details, but did not hear back by press time. Plaka has been a welcome mainstay in a town that lacks a ton of great Greek restaurants. The unassuming spot — which appears on Eater’s guide of best places to eat around Ballard — was critically praised over the years for its Athenian plates, including octopus marinated in white wine and red wine vinegar, gyro meritha, and eggplant casserole topped with bechamel." - Gabe Guarente

Wonderful gem in Ballard that I lived close by for years and never knew existed. I took my mom there from Mother’s Day because she had been to Greece several times and loves the culture and food. I believe it was the owner who sat us and he corrected her pronunciation gamely when she tried to speak to him in Greek. He also recommended a great bottle of wine to go with dinner that was both tasty and affordable. The food was amazing Greek comfort food and if we didn’t lick our plates clean there, we were seriously savoring some leftovers the next day. Great value and delicious food! Definitely planning on making this a regular spot.

Everything is good here. It's crazy. The Gyros, the pita plate with the roasted red pepper / olive / Tzatziki, the lamb ribs, the baklava... Even the fries were cooked to Golden perfection. If you are interested in anything, it'll be amazing. If you're interested in anything here, you'll be amazed.

This place is fantastic! We moved to Washington from Upstate NY where we had a lot of greek restaurants, since moving here we could not find an authentic greek place. This is it. They have those delicious classic greek lemon potatoes. This is the only place I have found in the area that has them and they make them perfectly. Everything was delicious, and we will be back for sure. My only complaint was parking, but it's Seattle so that's to be expected.

What a bittersweet visit, to discover a true gem like this only weeks before they are shutting things down. We arrived to celebrate a birthday and we were treated to nothing short of world class food and truly genuine, generous hospitality. The beets were scrumptious, the lamb was divine. I devoured the skillet fried fried halloumi that they started us off with. When the staff [owners, had to be] heard we were celebrating a birthday, they went out of their way to mark the occasion with familial warmth. The baclava for dessert WAS authentic and amazing. Lots of fun, delicious food, a convivial atmosphere with unbridled laughter throughout, we had a perfect evening. Thank you Yannis (?) For giving us a beautiful memory!!

We walked in, were seated immediately. So friendly! We couldn't decide, so instead our menus were whipped away and we were told we would be taken care of and that's how they do it here! We had an incredible array of treats and salads and main dishes. Everything was beautifully made and flavors to die for. We had ribs in quince and eggplant with lamb. We had dessert wine and a cheese filled pastry for dessert. Even the flat bread corners and olives were amazing. So much care and we felt like part of the family by the end of dinner. Excellent!
