Review: Mandai Rainforest Resort by Banyan Tree in Singapore - AFAR

"The resort’s main all-day dining restaurant, Planter’s Shed, serves generous breakfast and dinner buffets with a focus on Southeast Asian flavors—think Hainanese chicken rice, satay, and an indulgent pandan crème brûlée—and its version of Old Cucumber Soup really hit the spot for me, tasting like my grandmother made it." - Elizabeth See

Was there tonight, 7 Aug 2025, for buffet dinner. Food and Beverage and condiments, atmosphere, etc etc etc were top class. Before the sky turned dark, the greeneries outside the windows were so beautiful. The variety of foods was fantastic. And, all the food and beverage tasted fresh. The utensils and serviettes looked clean. The following restaurant staffs were top class in their friendly and professional manners = Miss Marry Miss Tiffany Miss Sheng Yuan Mr Tong Xin and Mr Vicky from Concierge area. Highly recommend everyone to visit Planters Shed for Dinner n Breakfast.

5 stars! Planter’s Shed is a new hotel restaurant within Mandai Rainforest Resort beside Mandai Wildlife Reserve and Mandai Boardwalk. One of the best breakfast buffet experiences I have ever had! Our family of 3 dined here in May 2025 and all of us including our young boy really loved the food (and drinks)! The staff were all friendly and efficient despite being a busy weekend period, tip to avoid queue is to go earlier before peak timing. Eggs and noodles can be prepared on demand too. Lovely array of food. Really spacious and comfortable seating. Loved it, thank you! 🙏🏻

Was here on a weekday staycation, not crowded and have a wide variety of Breakfast, Breakfast include in the room package, dinner see whether is buffet style or ala cart, nice ambience and music, feel you out in the woods, have kids section for food. They serve champagne and prosecco for breakfast as well. Different dinning experience, Highly recommend

3 of us visited during Lunch on a weekday, atmosphere was nice, all was good as we made our orders. When our food arrived, our starters, soups and mains came one after another in quick succession. Not giving us time to finish our starters & soups. Thus, the mains got cold quickly as they were out together. Table was barely big enough to hold all our dishes. Servers was not attentive even when we are the only 2 table at that time. Water glasses empty and empty plates did not garner their attention. Given that this is Banyan Tree, we expected better service.

Came here for the breakfast and dinner buffets with my two kids. The spread is not extensive but the quality of food, particularly the dinner was great. Staff are all really nice and friendly. Kids really enjoyed their experience here. Ambience is also nice and the place was done up really nicely, very greenhouse feel. Overall an excellent spot for hotel guests to enjoy.

We had breakfast and lunch here. The food were amazing. We had western cruise here for lunch and it is comparable with Cavern restaurant, which we had for dinner at Mandai west. I would like to commend Fifi, Chris and Ee Meng for their strong guest service. They make the dining in experience memorable. They have both indoor and outdoor sittings. Both offer good views of nature.

We had a 3D2N stay cation at the property and was concerned with the option at the hotel, but both food and service was simply outstanding. Firstly breakfast was exhaustive with a selection that made us plan out on what's needed to be taken for out days there. Everything was made with quality. We had lunch there daily where there were some great options- except will recommend to add perhaps another burger option for variety or a club sandwich:) The kids had rangers treat program which was worth it for the 25bucks! Then the buffet dinner, which is not our thing, turned out to be just fantastic. The options again were great but even better was their quality of produce. Lastly the service crew from Tiffany, Murali, Fandi, Shakira, Hadi and then the ladies just helping to always clear off quickly so we had a presentable table! Simply awesome. Thanks for a wonderful experience.

A serene forest café with hearty offerings and a fun local twist 🌿☕️ Planter’s Shed is such a lovely dining spot tucked into the B1 floor of Mandai Rainforest Resort, surrounded by lush greenery and forest views. The vibe here is casual, calm, and cozy, with natural materials and wide windows that let in soft light — a perfect place to start the day or unwind after exploring the nearby parks. I came here multiple times during my stay and really enjoyed both their buffet breakfast and à la carte menu. The breakfast buffet had a great variety — from hearty Western options to local Singaporean favorites. Everything was fresh, well-prepared, and neatly presented. The à la carte dishes (tried during dinner) were delicious as well — portions were generous, flavors were comforting, and the presentation was still on point despite the casual setting. What made the experience even more memorable was the Coffee Kraft session — a fun and engaging activity where we learned how to make traditional Nanyang-style tea and coffee using the classic “sock” brewing method. The instructor was super friendly, and it was such a great cultural moment woven into the resort experience. Definitely recommend signing up if it’s available during your visit! Planter’s Shed may be more laid-back than Forage, but it absolutely delivers in terms of atmosphere, food quality, and that special Mandai touch. Great for breakfast, a relaxed dinner, or even a quiet afternoon drink surrounded by nature.
