Review: Mandai Rainforest Resort by Banyan Tree in Singapore - AFAR

"The resort’s main all-day dining restaurant, Planter’s Shed, serves generous breakfast and dinner buffets with a focus on Southeast Asian flavors—think Hainanese chicken rice, satay, and an indulgent pandan crème brûlée—and its version of Old Cucumber Soup really hit the spot for me, tasting like my grandmother made it." - Elizabeth See

Visited Planter’s Shed at Mandai Banyan Tree Resort for a weekday buffet dinner. Ambience is quite nice with a rustic, nature-inspired setting that fits well with the resort vibe. Not too noisy and crowded as well. Food quality was decent, though not particularly memorable — portions were moderate and flavors were fairly standard. The Laksa was a true standout for me. The salad bar and cold dishes were pretty good too with good variety and mostly very fresh. Service was polite and really efficient. Prices are on the slightly higher side, which is expected given the resort location. Overall, an okay dining experience if you’re already staying there, but not something I’d go out of my way for definitely as there is nothing really truly special or unique that will draw me back.

Very good selection of food, fresh and clean. Well done to the kitchen. We particularly love the salted baked seabass with lemongrass, rendang and naan. Concierge staff was friendly but the services to fill up water and clearing up used plates were slow and not quite attentive. Hence, I’m giving a 4-star as such service is not expected in this resort.

Disappointed over the quality of the buffet. The food is simply not cooked to its best standard. The satay meat was hard, probably because it was cold from leaving out at the tray. The roast meat was not cripsy, the rice was raw and not fully cooked. The kuek pie tee filling was too watery. The Indian food section was decent. The cold food section was disappointed. No lobster or oyster. The dessert was decent but the patries and cakes could have better variety . The staff were all very friendly. I love the decor of the restaurant.

Was there tonight, 7 Aug 2025, for buffet dinner. Food and Beverage and condiments, atmosphere, etc etc etc were top class. Before the sky turned dark, the greeneries outside the windows were so beautiful. The variety of foods was fantastic. And, all the food and beverage tasted fresh. The utensils and serviettes looked clean. The following restaurant staffs were top class in their friendly and professional manners = Miss Marry Miss Tiffany Miss Sheng Yuan Mr Tong Xin and Mr Vicky from Concierge area. Highly recommend everyone to visit Planters Shed for Dinner n Breakfast.

5 stars! Planter’s Shed is a new hotel restaurant within Mandai Rainforest Resort beside Mandai Wildlife Reserve and Mandai Boardwalk. One of the best breakfast buffet experiences I have ever had! Our family of 3 dined here in May 2025 and all of us including our young boy really loved the food (and drinks)! The staff were all friendly and efficient despite being a busy weekend period, tip to avoid queue is to go earlier before peak timing. Eggs and noodles can be prepared on demand too. Lovely array of food. Really spacious and comfortable seating. Loved it, thank you! 🙏🏻

Was here on a weekday staycation, not crowded and have a wide variety of Breakfast, Breakfast include in the room package, dinner see whether is buffet style or ala cart, nice ambience and music, feel you out in the woods, have kids section for food. They serve champagne and prosecco for breakfast as well. Different dinning experience, Highly recommend

3 of us visited during Lunch on a weekday, atmosphere was nice, all was good as we made our orders. When our food arrived, our starters, soups and mains came one after another in quick succession. Not giving us time to finish our starters & soups. Thus, the mains got cold quickly as they were out together. Table was barely big enough to hold all our dishes. Servers was not attentive even when we are the only 2 table at that time. Water glasses empty and empty plates did not garner their attention. Given that this is Banyan Tree, we expected better service.

We had breakfast and lunch here. The food were amazing. We had western cruise here for lunch and it is comparable with Cavern restaurant, which we had for dinner at Mandai west. I would like to commend Fifi, Chris and Ee Meng for their strong guest service. They make the dining in experience memorable. They have both indoor and outdoor sittings. Both offer good views of nature.
