A Weekend in Cali, Colombia's Salsa Capital

"Platillos Voladores is a restaurant located north across the river in the Juananbú neighborhood of Cali. It is known for serving fresh seafood dishes like shrimp-mango ceviche and fish in sauce made from the fruit of sea-palm trees."

This eatery has received multiple positive reviews, although some of the dishes could be improved. Personally, I discovered that the highlight of the meal was at the end… The dessert featuring lemongrass encompassed all the flavor experiences I was hoping for. Prices are steep, but the atmosphere is lovely.

I had the privilege of visiting this restaurant 15 years ago and it had been my favorite of that trip. I was back a few days ago, and once again, it was the best of the bunch. I have eaten ceviche all over the world… and all over Lima, which, of course, is the capital of ceviche. For several members of my family and I, the ceviche at Platillos is fantastic and the one with cashew may be our favorite, anywhere. I was happy to learn that they are true to roots and focus on local products. Their standout dishes focus on fish from the Pacific Ocean. We tried several, including the red curry… it was all great, truly. If you enjoy tasting local distillates, ask for their artisanal aguardiente (much better that the mass produced brands that are heavy on the licorice and sugar) or their signature cocktails. Their desserts are all good.

This is the best place in Cali (as of now for me) and all of Colombia (been here two years). Took my mother for her birthday and she loved it. This is top notch, the decor, outdoor garden (best areas to eat if it’s not too hot). The service is stupendous and the food - delicious, delicious, delicious. My mom loved it an she’s not easy to pleaser. It is pricey for Colombian standards but if you can afford, you must do it - it’s an experience.

Dining at Platillos Voladores, led by the renowned Colombian chef Vicky Acosta Cruz, was an unforgettable experience. The restaurant brilliantly showcases the flavors of traditional Colombian dishes, enhancing their presentation and creating a fusion with both local and international ingredients. Each dish was a delightful surprise, combining familiar tastes with innovative twists that highlighted Chef's culinary expertise. The attention to detail and the harmonious blend of flavors were evident in every bite. The ambiance was inviting, and the staff were attentive and knowledgeable, adding to the overall exceptional dining experience. The restaurant is a must visit for anyone looking to explore the richness of Colombian cuisine with a modern and global touch. Highly recommended!

Joy of flavors. I am impressed with the quality of food and service. The atmosphere is so special. I got Pacific fish in coconut sauce. So creamy but not overwhelming. The shrimp salad was full of tastes and very well balanced with sweet, sour and spice. Definitely recommended.

Out-of-This-World Experience at Platillos Voladores in Cali! Let me tell you, the name Platillos Voladores ("Flying Saucers" in English) doesn't disappoint! My partner and I all the way from Miami heard whispers about this place, and let me tell you, the hype was real. We were looking for authentic Colombian food, and Platillos Voladores delivered in a big way. The atmosphere was warm and stylish, and the staff was super friendly and helpful. They even guided us through some of the local specialties on the menu. Speaking of the menu, it was fantastic! We tried a variety of dishes, and everything was bursting with flavor. The seafood was incredibly fresh, and the chontaduro entry were some of the best we've ever had. We also enjoyed some local beers and wines to complement the meal. Honestly, this experience went way beyond just a good meal. It was a true taste of Colombian culture, and we left feeling happy and satisfied. If you're in Cali and looking for an amazing dining experience, look no further than Platillos Voladores. You won't be disappointed!

A busy place on Friday nights but they did a good job. We had a very nice spring roll appetizer followed by two different fish as main courses. I tried a Pacific fish with a local fruit and I enjoyed the unique flavors. Our server got busy but overall it was a very good dinner and a good value.

The environment is as perfectly curated as the menu. Perfect ambiance, exceptional service, and exquisite food. We came here without a reservation and they were kind enough to squeeze us in. Heads up, you need a reservation! The management and staff are all so kind, welcoming, warm, and helpful. I ordered the Carapachos and it was very tasty, it had a perfect spice to it. For dessert I got the merengado and it was SO GOOD. This is my favorite restaurant in Colombia!!! You can see we completely cleared out plates.
