On the Grid : Mar Bella Beach

"Everyone knows that one of the best things about Barcelona is the fact that you’re near the beach and have relatively good weather all year round. That’s why on any given day you can expect to see people there. From picnics, to running, to surfing, to yoga, the beach offers you complete freedom to do whatever you fancy. Plus, we’re sure you will agree that with the views and fresh air, a work-out here beats going to the gym any day." - Little Buddha

"Mar Bella translates as ‘beautiful sea’, and whether it’s through the power of suggestion–or geography–the sea here does appear to glimmer towards the turquoise. Pantone shades aside, Mar Bella is most notable for having a large clothing-optional section. You can’t spot it from the promenade (it’s hidden behind artfully placed rocks), so, as you stroll onto the sand, you may be surprised to discover just how well attended it is—except in terms of garments. There is no pressure to bare or wear, though–it’s entirely up to you; the vibe is liberal, as relaxed as a siesta, LGBTQIA-friendly, and no one bats an eyelid about what anyone else is doing, wearing, or where they are applying their SPF. However, if you want to be sure there are no anatomical surprises popping up in the background of your vacation snaps, wander along to Nova Mar —the next stretch along—where bits remain white under wraps." - Gemma Askham

I absolutely love this beach! The views are stunning, and the atmosphere is so relaxing. It’s definitely better than other beaches in Barcelona—cleaner, less crowded, and with a more enjoyable vibe. A perfect spot to unwind and soak up the sun!

We went on a Saturday afternoon. We were disappointed by the etiquette of people on the beach. Yes, I know it would be one of the busiest times. However, I’m disappointed to find that there are many textiles on the tiny clothing optional section. I think all beaches should be clothing optional. But until then, if there is a very limited space and no one in the group is naturist, then why take up valuable naturist space? Do as you’d be done by. The nearby textile beaches were nowhere as busy as the naturist section at the same time. There were also plenty of people smoking, despite the prominent signs saying no smoking. There were also a few groups on speakerphones, again, despite prominent signs saying no loud music. It’s not a nice beach for LGBT or naturist community. While there is a lifeguard service, the sand is rough and the seabed is rocky. It’s a big disappointment for us and we won’t be coming back.

A lovely part of the beach in Barcelona and less crowded than other sections further along, closer to the centre. It is a gorgeous walk too. It is cleaner, more peaceful and relaxing, must visit if you would like to enjoy the beach but in a calmer, less crowded way.

I recently visited this beautiful beach, and it was an amazing experience. The sand was soft and clean, and the water was crystal clear with gentle waves — perfect for swimming. There were plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas available, and the beach was well-maintained. I also loved the nearby cafes and restaurants that offered fresh seafood and cold drinks. The atmosphere was peaceful and relaxing, ideal for both families and solo travelers. I would definitely come back again!

Did not know it was clothing optional as some reviews say. Definitely need to visit when it is hotter and there are more people around.

I like the way this portion of the beach was done where people can relax and even stay in the area where there are rocks. It is a nice place to have a shade during peak of summer

All of thr beach front at barceloneta is beautiful. I liked mar bella because of its more hidden nature. Though be ware, this is a nudist friendly beach and you will see men and women of all ages, shapes, and sizes baring all. Only go if you have the maturity to be respectful.
