Plattekill Mountain

We have enjoyed skiing and snowboarding at Plattekill Mountain, a small independent ski center reminiscent of the many small ski centers that we used to ski at in the 70’s-80’s. There are not too many places like this that are still left and we like to support these places. There is a good variety of slopes for all levels and they have very good snow making and trail grooming operation. We ski during the week, we have never had to wait in line for the two chair lifts that operate smoothly and reliably. Their lift ticket and equipment rentals are priced reasonably compared to some of the other larger ski centers in the area.

Plattekill Mountain is a great family owned and operated ski resort. They have some good steeps, tree runs, and long winding cruisers. Mountain access is served by one triple and one double chair. Classic lodge with a great fireplace, cafeteria, n pro shop on the lower level. The bar is upstairs. I go there for the Standing Sideways Plattekill Takeover. A fundraising event for the Live Like Brent Foundation. Snowboards n snow skates only. Look forward to it every year.

Simply put, this is my favorite mountain. A truly independent, family-run mountain combined with legitimate terrain of all levels, including the best steeps in the Catskills. It's a place you want to be at, and as you potentially drive by other ski mountains to get here, you'll be glad you did. The skiing is great! Plattekill often gets snow that doesn't make it further east or south. Zero pretentiousness with all the homey vibes I want...wood fire on the patio, good food in the lodge, faces that become familiar after a couple of visits. Excellent ski school instructors & rental shop, awesome lifties, solid snow-making, and top-notch ski patrol. Oh, and the upstairs bar is fantastic.

Small mountain with a big family feel. We went tubing and the staff was amazing. The hills were well groomed and the whole experience was excellent! We went to the 10:30 session and it wasn’t super crowded which was amazing. We got to go down as much as we wanted. When we finished, we went into the lodge and sat next to a roaring wood fire to thaw out. Definitely will be back!

This is my family’s favorite mountain. Small enough so that nobody gets lost. There are trails for EVERY ability. Everyone is so positive, happy and courteous. I feel like my mood is always better when I’m there. The best part, even on the busiest days, there are no lines more than 2 minutes for the lifts. The lodge gets busy during lunchtime, but there is always enough room. The lodge is great, the fire inside is always roaring during the winter and the bar has great cocktails. Their ski school, headed by Ralph (who is a gentleman) is always accommodating. They take their time to teach every person, whether it’s on a group or personal lessons. My kids LOVE the junior ski program and are thinking about the race program. They are excited every weekend to get up (EARLY) and go. All of this at prices less than the big mountains around here. It’s totally worth the 2 hour drive for us each weekend. Can’t wait for the weekends here!

When other mountains in the Catskills are either charging an arm-and-a-leg or are sold out, Plattekill holds it down! It's quickly becoming my favorite mountain in the Catskills to ski at, and love how they keep it down to Earth. Even on a "busy" day, you are still within a few minutes walk from the lodge from the parking lots. Lift lines are at most a few minutes long, and you never have to worry about clogged up trails. On a recent day, after chasing a snow storm up the night before, my friend and I enjoyed an epic day of powder skiing at Plattekill. It begs to be explored, with so much interesting terrain and features to shred, it's a mountain with something to offer everyone from beginners to experts. Keep those tips up!

I recently visited Plattekill Mountain Ski Resort on their opening day with a group of 8 girlfriends, and it was such a memorable experience! The snow was still being made, but that didn’t dampen our fun one bit. One of my friends took a snowboarding lesson, while three of us decided to try skiing. Jeff at the rentals was a superstar—he was incredibly helpful, even assisting us in getting our gear on properly. His friendly and patient demeanor set a positive tone for the day. As we were finding our way around, we bumped into someone named Shawn. While it didn’t seem like he was an employee (no official uniform), he went out of his way to show us around and make our visit so enjoyable. Shawn seemed to know everyone at the resort and gave us invaluable skiing tips. He truly was the highlight of our trip! For the girls who preferred a more relaxed vibe, the bar became their hangout spot. The drinks were fantastic and surprisingly inexpensive—definitely a win! To top off our day, two of us ended up needing to be brought down the mountain by rescue, which turned out to be another highlight of the trip. We laughed the entire way down, turning what could have been a mishap into a hilarious memory. Overall, Plattekill Mountain was so much fun! The combination of helpful staff, friendly people, great drinks, and plenty of laughs made for an unforgettable day. I highly recommend it and can’t wait to return! One word of advice: avoid making errors when purchasing tickets online unless you're certain of your plans. There's a fee to make any changes, which could catch you off guard. Choose carefully to save yourself paying extra fees. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We visited Plattekill mountain for the first time this past weekend and we LOVED it. Got an all-day ski lesson with Carol and she was the best. She was so patient and walked us through every step and gave tons of great advice. Highly recommend this mountain to anyone who’s looking for a chill ‘old-school’ vibe place to ski. We’ll definitely be back

Great mountain with uninterrupted vertical drop. The parking lot isn't very large and fills up quickly so get there early but the payoff is that Plattekill never gets super crowded like Hunter or Windham. Started skiing there in 2000 when it wasn't really discovered yet but the good news is that success hasn't killed the experience.

I was very skeptical about coming to ski Plattekill in December with some friends, but they assured me that it would be fun and I did enjoy it. In the Catskills, I've skied Hunter, Windham and Bellearye, each multiple times. Plattekill is the smallest among them, but surprisingly has a 1100 ft vertical drop with skiable 110 acres. The main lift is only a conventional triple chair, so it can't handle a lot of people. The only other chairlift open is the adjacent double chair. It had been fairly cold early in the ski season, so they were able to make a fair amount of snow and had more than half their trails open after Christmas. The drive up is longer than going to the other 3, about 20 min further than Belleayre, which for us was over 3 hrs from NYC. The parking lot was not too crowded when we arrived around 9:30. Even though we did not park far, the hike to the lodge was steeper than I realized and even the area around the lifts were kind of steep and treacherous while carrying gear and hiking in clunky ski boots. My days of racing down the black diamonds are long over. These days, I just like to cruise down the green and blue trails. My favorite trail (and aptly named) has to be Shredded Mozzarella, a blue intermediate trail with undulating terrain and mostly groomed snow. My son really liked the blue trails here. The lodge is very crowded with most families squatting on the tables with their gear. We broke for lunch and were able to find an unoccupied table after a while. The food is typical ski lodge fare of chicken fingers, burgers, hot dogs & fries. I did get some hot chicken noodle soup though.

This place is 12 minutes from Roxbury Meadow. It is great for families, family run operation. They have ski schools for all ages, nice apres ski lounge. You can bring your own food or get some fast food from the cafeteria. No night skiing. Slopes close at four.

Had. A. Blast. Came here with some friends and had a really great time. The trails are pretty easy and I do love the shredded mozzarella one since there's a lot of little hills to do jumps and have fun with it (no, I didn't do any of that LOL). Fell a few times getting off the ski lift. It was pretty funny and tragic at the same time since I actually grabbed my friend and pulled her down with me. I have no idea what I was thinking but def wish it wasn't so icy and a little flatter would be great haha. Other than that, it was great! It was snowing but it wasn't sticking so the trails were a bit slushy and icy. Again, nothing to do with the location just nature being nature! It was definitely fun. Not my favorite mountain or anything but it was great! The bathrooms were spacious, they even had changing rooms. The lodge itself was pretty cool! LOVED the indoor fireplace. The 2nd floor was where it was at: the bar! These people were amazing, serving away, great energy great drinks. The Jamaican Hot Chocolate was to die for (I think that's what it was called!). Basically spiked hot chocolate with coconut rum. SOOOO GOOD. Plenty of food options: chicken tenders, fries, pizza. You know, easy stuff! Outside there's a little waffle stand so you can go get your waffles before they sell out! Outside space is great too, you can chill by the seats and heat warmers or the fire pits. It's really a great space to even come and watch others ski and snowboard. Would I go back? Yes! Immediately, no! But yes I would :)

If you're looking to avoid the crowds at Hunter and Windham, this mountain is a fine option. Nothing fancy, and in my opinion, a good place to come for beginners and intermediates. Lift tickets and ski rentals are fairly priced and there's also snow tubing available.

This is a review for the food hall in the main lodge - today, we purchased chicken tenders from the food hall at 1pm, prime lunch time. Both servings were completely raw, uncooked in the middle. This was after my children had already taken bites. I will have to watch them today to see if they experience food poisoning. I have never had an experience where food was served this blatently uncooked. I witnessed at least two other patrons experiencing the same thing and returning to complain, also after their children also had taken bites. It was disgusting and very dangerous. I will report this to the NY State Dept of Health.

I can't ski because I have the worst knees in the universe but I recently won a giveaway to come here for the day and still trekked out from the NYC metro area to enjoy a day at the lodge. This place is bigger than the website makes it seem. There are three floors in the lodge which gave us ample space to hang out and relax. The bar on the third floor offers an awesome view of the slopes and makes for great people-watching. There are two firepits outside which kept us toasty on a damp day. You can rent equipment here or bring your own. They also have a snow tubing park if that's more your speed. Lifts take you up the hills but you can also ride one up and walk two miles back down on snow shoes if you prefer. The food is pretty good. The breakfast sandwich was better than I was expecting. They also have a small bistro near the bar that sells quesadillas which were also pretty good. Definitely a cool place to check out if you're into skiing, snowboarding, tubing, or just want to people-watch at the lodge.

TERRIBLE. My friend and I went skiing here this past weekend and we went down "the Cliffs" a black diamond. There were a bunch of hills and my friend ended up going off of a cliff Thank goodness that it was powdery and only about a 20-25 ft drop. Everyone here was rude and disrespectful. We decided to go down a marked wooded trail which led us very far from any trails and the powder was up to our knees. We had to hike to any type of trails. PLEASE DO NOT GO THROUGH THESE WOODS OR THE CLIFFS!!!

Took my grand daughter and friends tubing. They had a great time. The workers were all awesome. Miles was so good with the younger kids. So nice to go someplace for fun and it really happens. The kids want to go back already. Thanks for the fun.

Plattekill is a hidden gem. I want just enough people to go there to keep it profitable, without overrunning it. So anyway, what to say about Platty? It has the most diverse terrain in the Catskills. There is literally something for everyone here. The skiers left side of the mountain contains most of the easier runs. I usually like to warm up on this side. There are a couple nice cruisers, a semi steep, wide fall line trail, and a few nice blue runs. This side of the mountain is served by a triple. The skiers right side is where the magic happens. Blockbuster (which actually splits the two sides) is an extremely steep fall line trail which is usually half bumped up, and half semi groomed. Plunge and GS which are almost as steep, but a lot narrower. Cliffs which has some cool rock formations to huck off and many others. Plattekill is a small mountain, but it skis a lot bigger than it is. This is partly because they pretty much invented the "everything is inbounds" policy. All the woods are open, all the mountain bike trails are open, etc. The other reasons are because of the diversity of the terrain, and there are very few flat spots. It's basically steep from summit to lift line. Well, there aren't any lines, but you get my drift.

HORRIBLE. Horrible service. Reserved a lesson, lift ticket and skiis for my daughters first time at this place during Presidents weekend. All paid for. We drove FOUR HOURS from our house in CT, and arrive to find out that there were no skiis available, after we had already PAID for them! I called customer service, and they reassured me I would get a refund for everything. It's now May; I had written a claim with my bank and just found out Plattekill DENIED me a refund. I will never return. You should be ashamed of yourselves. You ruined my kids day, and then you refused to do the right thing.

DANGER DO NOT SKI HERE!!!! ESPECIALLY WITH YOUR KIDS. Do yourself a favor and read down to the other recent 1 star reviews. This place is down right dangerous and their only goal is to collect the outrageous rates they charge on the limited days they even operate. Unmarked hazards EVERYWHERE with no safe way down in most cases. This means only one thing...greed over safety. Never again.

Nice to have ski resort close to NYC that's not crazy. The state owned resort used to be nice but it's getting like hunter. Note: if you like bling and super fast lifts this place is not for you or Hugh mountain. It's great for kids similar to Jack Frost. Pro: Lines are small if any Good snow making Staff remembered my name at rental counter (duaghter) Rental equipment in great condition Ticket price was average but more than West Point Seems like the snow they made was good must have a software tool to get it right Everyone was friendly Cons: Grooming was not perfect(early morning) thinking they should look for another used machine. They should Blacktop the main driveway Lifts are slow (note I don't care) Could add more safety barriers on trails I'm just happy to find a resort that's not crazy on weekends. Felt like it's owned by someone that cares

Came here for a Friends Rent A Mountain (FRAM) experience and was so not disappointed! You (and a couple hundred of friends of friends) can rent out the mountain all to yourselves, and it is fantastic! Full amenities are here: lifts, food, bar, etc. Such amazing variety of slopes for this mountain's size; perfect for all skill levels. The lodge feels extremely homely, and not as commercial as other, larger ski lodges do. Definitely recommend checking it out if you get the chance to do so!

This was our first time here but will not be our last! We really enjoyed the snow tubing and the top floor of the lodge which has a full bar with a ton of local beer options. Our 9 year old had a blast and we can't wait to go back!

Love Platty. Great mountain w plenty of variety if the snow is there. Go there for a few days every winter to switch it up from the corporate giants. Really love the vibe and the Indy spirit that is alive and well at Platty. Met the owner in the parking lot directing traffic, later saw him by the lift helping provide some stoke to the skiers for the day. You don't get this at many places these days. Hoping to get a crowd and rent this gem sometime this winter (You can rent the entire mountain).

This was a good place to go tubing for the kids and to catch some drinks and live music in the lodge. While we didn't go skiing, the tubing was a lot of fun and pricing was definitely affordable. It wasn't too crazy on a snowy day which was nice. The lodge was warm and offered lots of options for food and drink for adults and kids - chili, soup, chicken fingers, french fries, and hot cocoa to name a few. There's a great full- service bar as well. Both the food and drinks were really good for a lodge! The live music was a fun surprise and there was a small area where you could listen to the band and watch the skiers coming in out the large windows. My only complaint was that there was no elevator to get to the lodge portion of food and drink. It's three levels and I had a stroller and there was no place to really leave it making it hard to get around. It made me think if there were some elderly people or someone with a disability, they wouldn't be able to utilize anything in the lodge besides the first floor which was where all the skiers and tubers come though. I also found the staff a bit short because when I asked if there was a place to leave our stroller or an easier way to get up to the lodge they treated me like I shouldn't be there with a toddler or something.

Plattekill is a skier's mountain. That's all you need to know. No, you're not going to find a resort paradise with a personal masseuse, dozens of bars and restaurants, and all the trappings of a "mega-resort", but what you will find is a small, family run, skier's haven. From the moment you arrive here, you notice things are different, as the parking lot is practically on top of the ski lifts you park so close. At Platty, they actually allow much of the terrain to retain natural character, instead of grooming and mashing the hell out of all of the snow. If you're the type person who listens to ski marketing and reflects on "perfect corduroy" as being a positive? Then you wont like it here. But if you like conditions the way God intended them, with great natural snow (pic), just the way real skiers learn how to conquer a mountain? Then this is your place. The plenty-steep Blockbuster is my favorite trail here, the left side is usually entirely left to large moguls to play in, the right side often groomed. And rather than discourage you from plunging into the trees, Plattekill openly invites you to "ski anything you can" on the mountain, provided you're inbounds. Frankly, I dont believe I've ever seen better and more varied terrain for all levels at a place this small. Perhaps the best thing about Plattekill is that there are NEVER crowds, even on weekends. I'd rather pull my toenails out than ski in a "sardine tin Saturday" at Hunter or Belleayre, yet even on Saturdays you'll have no lift lines at Plattekill. When you're done skiing, there's not much apres-ski scene. But the upstairs bar in the lodge is clean, and quaint, with views of the slopes, and if the weather is sunny, it's wonderful sitting outside on their back deck with a beer in hand, watching some skiing. Lastly, this is a great place, family friendly, people know each other, and it's exactly the sort of place where someday when I have kids, I'll want them to learn. Yes, I realize it sounds like I probably work in their marketing department (or should), but I swear that's not the case! I simply love little Platty! THE STATS THAT MATTER Summit Elevation: 3,500 feet Vertical Drop: 1,100 feet Skiable Area: 75 acres Longest Run: 10,560 feet Annual Snowfall: 240 inches Snowmaking: 85% Uphill Capacity: 4,500 per hour

We bought snowtubing tickets for our extended family and were very disappointed. While the run is quite exciting and fun, we only got to do 2 rides down in an hour and 15 minutes!!!! The set up doesn't work for the number of tickets that the mountain sells for the time slots. In fact many people bailed because most of the time was spent waiting in line. Think of Disneyland on one of its busiest pre-pandemic days. We hung in and got 4 runs in the allotted 2 hours and that was only because of the people who gave up, making the line a bit shorter. Four runs for $27 is quite steep for tubing. We will not ever go tubing there again and will also tell others to skip the tubing at Plattekill.

Went to enjoy the beautiful snow on a great ski day BUT was made so uncomfortable by all the skiers and staff (including lift line workers, ski patrol, and instructors) NOT wearing masks and NOT social distancing. We left early because it felt so unsafe. There were no signs near lift lines, like we have seen elsewhere, encouraging skiers to distance or to adhere to protocols, despite the proclamations on the website that made it seem as if they would enforce these practices. Will not be back, at least until Covid is under control. Very disappointing.

I first skied Plattekill in Feb. '02. There was a buzz about the place among locals, and the word was that they were making a comeback. Upon arriving, I felt like I had been there before. I grew up skiing at Magic Mt, Bromley, Mad River Glen and other ski areas throughout VT, the Adirondacks and the Whites. Although the first visit was shortly after a Feburary thaw, they still had ample terrain open. Since my first visit, I have made it a point to go back a few times when they had more snow to get a better feel for the place. Most recently 2/22/2017. Plattekill is special. Located on the west side of the Catskills, they benefit from a unique lake effect that hurls snow squalls into the box canyon. Typical snow years dump 150" to 200", with some winters seeing much more than 200". This is twice the natural snow Hunter or Windham get. Since my first visit, they have made frequent upgrades and expansions to the snowmaking system. Mother Nature can be twatty, but their snowmaking system is more than capable to offer a quality product. The terrain at Platty is reminiscent of Magic Mt with a little Mad River Glen, Stowe and Jay sprinkled in. The 1,100 vertical drop skies far larger as there is no runnout. The Northface has steep, fall line runs that, run parallel to the double chair. At the summit, to the left, I found exceptional narrow, windy New England style runs, and several lines through the woods. There is also a natural easy way down. All runs meet at the bottom, so if the natural trails are open, it is perfect for families or groups with skiers of varying ability. To the right as you get off the lift is Bumps, which accesses Blockbuster. a classic fall line bump run with a bailout lane. The Sunshine Triple accesses gentler terrain including a Powder Puff, a long easy way down from the summit to the base, offering increadible views. There is an intermediate route by taking Sundown to Lower Face. The terrain off the triple is reminiscent of Bromley, VT with a similar southernish exposure. Upper and Lower Face are lined with an arsenal of guns and cannons on both sides. The supertrail style run skis like three runs. You can hit the bumps on the right, make GS turns in the middle, or make short, quick turns in the loose snow that is often on the left side. Off to the left of the summit access Blockbuster, and some impressive unmarked glades and bike paths that snake through the woods. The point is, this mountain is a gem. When the snow is deep, this place is off the hook. The owners and their staff have done a remarkable job at successfully running a viable independent ski area. This has become my favorite place to ski in the Catskills, and my visits are about to become more frequent. It is a place where you can make your kids into good, technical skiers. That is all that matters.

I've been coming to plattekill mountain for over 10 years now. I learned to ski here and thoroughly enjoy everything the place has to offer. The only reason why I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because they have converted the original bunny hill into a tubing hill, so the only area for someone to practice before going onto the actual mountain is essentially a pile of snow crammed with small children. It's so difficult to actually learn on this new hill between the lack of space and the crowdedness. I really wish they would make the original bunny hill available to people who want something bigger than the pile of snow they call the new bunny hill :/

Hands down the best people EVER!!! Adam, Cathey, and Matt saved the day for us. We drove out from Boston on the recommendation of a Pro slope style rider to find that the resort was closed. This didn't stop Adam (an employee called in on his day off) from turning our a total bust of a trip into a the greatest experience. He ended up shuttling us up to the top of the mountain while he worked and allowed us a private experience of the whole mountain. There is no better people I have ever met at a resort than these three! Knowing now that they are holding on to their true grit and not selling out to a corporation and keeping the resort in the family makes this the place we all need to support all the more! Keep local strong, these people are definitely worth it.

Came here to ski for the first time ever. I paid for lessons with equipment, and snow tubing in advance for $100 Compared to the other places I researched this is a was a great deal. I appreciated that there were two instructors and were both very helpful

Down and dirty skiing and riding! Great steeps and tree runs! Lots of downhill mountain bike trails that are great when there is snow.

Even in an age dominated by the likes of Vail Resorts, Inc, Peak Resorts, Alterra, etc., Plattekill is living proof that there is definitely still a place for a great family-owned local mountain. This place is intimate in scale and scope--and utterly charming and unpretentious. It is deservedly a favorite of locals in the know, and well worth the extra 20-min drive (compared to more bustling ski hills in the area), no matter where you're coming from. Terrain has a little of something for everyone: Steeps, tree-runs, wide open mogul fields, and gentle winding trails. A note of caution: Grooming really isn't their "thing." Slopes and trails are a little shaggy and can get pretty rutted-out, pockmarked, and icy at times. (Or as I like to call it, "skiing in the eastern U.S.") Just be sure to ski within your limits if you're a beginner (or have knee issues). However, if you hate to wait, snow conditions are a total non-issue when compared to the real story: The complete absence of lift lines. Longest I've ever experienced is under two minutes; usually one can pretty much ski right from the trail to a waiting chair. Lastly, everybody who works at Plattekill is just so nice, and the vibe seems to rub off on the skiers and boarders. Overall, it lends to a very relaxed, cozy feel. Even the lodge is storybook-like, a real throw-back to the days when a warm fire, a plate of "lodge fries," and a cold beer were the only amenities a skier could ever want). The 3d floor bar is like something out of a picture postcard from the 60s or 70s. Bottom line: Rustic, happy, and enchanting--skiing like it usta be!

In good snow years Plattekill is the best ski area in the region. They don't have a lot of snowmaking so they can't cover the mountain the way Hunter, Windham and Belleayre do when the natural snow doesn't fall, but when it does there is no better place to ski in the region. Here skiing is the focus. If you're looking for luxury accommodations, a sushi bar, a spa for apres ski, and trails groomed to corduroy perfection don't bother with Plattekill because this is a bare bones operation and a true skiers mountain. Think the Mad River Glen of the Catskills. For real skiers this place is heaven. Don't let the fact that there are only two lifts and no high speed quads or six packs to speed you to the summit discourage you from coming here. This mountain is as big as any in the Catskills and the runs are top to bottom without long runouts like Belleayre and Windham. Experts will be at home here. Blockbuster is almost 1,000 feet of straight vertical complete with knee knocking bumps and for those who like to venture off trail, just follow the local's tracks into the woods and you have an awesome playground. After a big dump you can still find acres of untracked powder even late in the afternoon. You can't find that even out west. Intermediates need not worry however because the blue trails are outstanding. Even novices can ski from the summit on two mile long trails such as Powderpuff and Overlook. And the best thing about Plattekill is the lack of crowds. Those who are used to the masses of skiers and riders at Hunter and Windham will be pleasantly surprised to be able to ski right up to the lift even on holiday weekends and have plenty of elbow room on the trails. The lodge is small and rustic and the people there are friendly. As you wander around the lodge you get the sense that you are an insider, being one of the the few who know about this place, a fraternity of sorts. Parking is right at the base, so no need for a long walk or shuttle to get to the lodge and lift ticket prices are a bargain in this day of $90 lift tickets. If there was a little more snowmaking this would be a 5 star review. Alas, in years where there is little natural snow, Plattekill's limited snowmaking and grooming can make for difficult conditions and limited terrain. And they are only open on weekends. This is a skiers mountain, get in on the secret.

My wife wanted the mountain-top wedding she had always dreamed of, and right from the start, everyone up at Plattekill went above and beyond to help us attain that dream! We had been engaged for about two years, though we didn't start planning the wedding itself until around January of 2015. We had looked at a couple of other venues in or around the Catskills, but since we were on an extremely tight budget, we hadn't found anything that worked. That is, until we happened across Plattekill Mountain whilst sulking over our computer and a bottle of wine one night. I shot them an email inquiry explaining the situation and received a response a few minutes later. We set up a day the following week to go up and talk with someone from and to take a look around. When we arrived (in the middle of a snow storm), we were greeted almost immediately by a woman named Susan, who immediately made us feel welcome, and after about 5 minutes of talking, it was as comfortable as if we had known her for years! She showed us pictures of some past ceremonies and receptions, all of which were beautiful, and once we had seen them, we asked her for a price estimate based on our budget and our estimated number of guests. Let me just say that when I saw the price quote, I was blown away, and had to actually clear my throat and ask her if what I was seeing was true, since included in the quote was the catering, the bar, and the rental of the WHOLE MOUNTAIN for the day. It was, and let me just say it was UNDER budget for us, I ran to my car and wrote her a check for the deposit then and there. On the ride home, all we could say was "I just can't believe this is real!", over and over again while smiling the whole ride home to North Jersey (still in a snow storm). From then on, communications between Susan and I were frequent, and swift, there was always a reply in what seemed like minutes from Susan. Every question or concern we had was answered long before the month of the wedding. On our second visit, which was also our tasting date, we met Frank the chef for the mountain, and yet again we were completely blown away both by his culinary skills, and how easy he was to get along with. The food was great, so great in fact that we couldn't choose what to put on our menu for at least another 3 weeks before we finally had to suck it up and narrow it down. On that visit, we also sat with Susan and went over where the reception would be and possible arrangements for the tables and dance floor. And on our third visit we actually took a ski-lift ride up to the top of both of their ski slopes to pick out which view we liked best for our ceremony! Fast forward to the week of the wedding: My wife and I started setting up for the reception (yes, we did our own set-up, and take-down in the interest of saving some money, the venue will do it for you, but will charge for it [and besides, my wife has a knack for interior design and pay particular attention to detail]) the Tuesday before our Sunday ceremony, and everyone who was at the venue was more than willing to lend a hand with whatever was needed. There was a great guy named Bobby (who again we were so comfortable with it felt like we had known him for years) that we met while setting up, who told us he'd be the other "go-to" guy the day of the wedding. On the day of our wedding, everything was ready and waiting for us when we got there, and everyone there was all smiles which were extremely comforting as we were both shaking with nervous energy. The whole staff up at Plattekill made the day go more perfectly than we ever could have imagined! Susan was there every step of the way walking us, our bridal party, and our guests through everything step-by-step, from arrival, to driving our elderly guests up the mountain who wouldn't go within 10 feet of the ski-lift, to ceremony, to cocktail hour, to reception. We can't thank them enough; the mere thought of it all brings a tear to my eye as I sit here at work typing this up. I know I speak for my wife as well as myself when I say that the whole experience was the best we've ever had, and as a matter of fact, our guests are STILL talking about it three weeks later, and we are STILL getting new pictures and video's sent to us from our friends and family! I've been skiing in the Catskills for 20+ years and somehow only made it to Plattekill for the first time last week. What was I thinking? Plattekill has big mountain terrain with a small mountain feel. You may look at the trail map and see only 2 lifts and think "this looks dinky", but that would be doing yourself a tremendous disservice as those two lifts service a ton of terrain. The mountain is definitely geared more toward advanced skiers/boarders who will find some really awesome diamonds that are much longer than most in the Catskills. Also, if you like going off-trail then Plattekill is the place for you. That said, beginner/intermediate skiers/riders may have more fun at Belleayre as the shape of the mountain here doesn't seem to lend itself to nice wide cruiser trails. The single lodge is compact, but homey and the top floor bar area is a great place to take a break over a quality beer. Downstairs, the ski shop does a full range of services at very reasonable prices. The food in the cafeteria is not particularly compelling, but really you're just refueling to get back out on the mountain, right? All in all, Plattekill is a great place to rip it up away from the crowds at the more high profile mountains where sometimes it seems like people care more about their outfit than the time they actually spend on the hill. Check it out!

We came out here with a large group for some late season skiing. I was very surprised at how much snow there was for late march. The staff was very friendly and one of the ski patrol showed us some neat glade runs that mad the day worth it. The big draw for plattekill is the amount of off trail and glade skiing available on the mountain. The lodge is cozy and they cafeteria isn't anything to write home about, but the mountain has a ton of mountain bike paths and good tree skiing areas that will keep experienced skiers exploring for hours. Great little ski area if you're looking for a change of pace.

It's not a terrible mountain, but I have to write a review about their customer service and follow up. I got injured on a green this year. I'm an experienced snowboarder, but the trail had a huge water hole in the middle of it and was completely iced over. I wasn't going very fast and while going around the water hole, I got caught in groves from the previous days tracks. Spun around and landed with a crack to my tailbone. After the pain somewhat subsided, I boarded down the blue trail i was trying to get to and realized the pain was getting worse. Two hours and 4 aspirin later, I went to ski patrol. They were wonderful and got me to the emergency room. HOWEVER, they didn't let my friend take my helmet and goggles and then forgot to put it in the ambulance with me. No biggie right? I don't live in the area, so I called them after I got back home (3 hours away) and left messages, emailed and so on. No one ever got back to me or called to find out if I was OK. I fractured my tailbone on their mountain and had equipment left behind. It's the most discourteous thing I could ever think of - usually mountains refund you money and follow up after an injury - they couldn't bother returning my calls or give me back my gear. Even if they didn't get my messages, they have my contact info at ski patrol. So disappointing.

Having recently gotten back into skiing after a long hiatus. This season I have skied many of the Catskill and Berkshire resorts. They all have things to offer but my favorite was the one I saved for last, Plattekill. I really like the lengths of the runs as the steeps do not have the run off like some of the neighboring mountains but go all the way down at the same pitch. Being an advanced intermediate to budding Advanced skier, I was a little intimidated looking at the trail map and seeing all the double black diamonds but i really enjoyed how they groomed most of them. One side of the slope was groomed and the other side left for moguls and powder. Let's you go down the same run multiple times and able to change the difficulty and experience. Also, maybe it was the day I was there or something with the positioning of the mountain, It was a windy day the slopes got better as the day went on instead of getting skied off the conditions were the best at the end of day.

I can only speak for the biking, but the place is awesome and a lot of fun. The owner is sort of a dick, but if you can avoid dealing with him and just go to ride it is great. After riding all around the country, there is no place like it. It is probably a love or hate type venue, but I happen to love it. the trails are very steep and very technical with a lot of natural features. As for the ground, it is all shale, so wrap the downtube before you go or it will get destroyed. Riding at pkill will absolutely help your riding abilities as it is extremely challenging. If you go you will be a better rider by the end of the day guaranteed. I race EVERY race at plattekill! It is worth mentioning that they do not have any flow or jump trails like you would find at MCBP or Windham. Plattekill is only natural terrain-but there is ALOT of it.

Came here on March 4th for a weekend ski trip with some friends. We had a great time on the ski trails (and although it was my third time skiing ever) we had a lot of fun going down the green trails together, although everyone else in our group was a more experienced skiier. The scenery is quite beautiful and we appreciated the views from various parts of the mountain. That weekend also happened to be their Ski Patrol Appreciation BBQ, and we enjoyed a great chicken BBQ dinner with live entertainment, as well as the torch parade later in the evening. We also spent time snow tubing, and just wanted to give a special thank you to the boys working the snow tube hill! They were incredibly friendly and fun to talk to; they also found my boyfriend's phone which he accidentally dropped in a tube. We can't wait to come back next season. Thanks Plattekill staff for a memorable experience!

If you want the most amazing wedding you could ever possibly imagine, then have it at Plattekill Mountain! This place is literally perfect, from the breathtaking views, to the food and wonderful staff, I cannot recommend Plattekill highly enough. Susan and the staff are attentive, responsive, professional and incredibly fun people! They made sure every detail and request was met so that our big day went off without a hitch. My wife and I were married here on September 24th 2016, and the view from the top of the mountain where the ceremony took place was unbelievable, as was the view for cocktail hour out on the deck. From the scheduling and logistics, to making sure that we had a drink in our hands and had enough to eat, Susan and Bob were incredible in making sure everything went perfectly. The food and beer selection was incredible, as well! My wife and I love craft beer, and Susan ordered a plethora of amazing local craft brews that our guests loved. Besides the tremendous value, the wonderfully unique experience of being married on top of a mountain, and the great food and drinks, the staff here is what makes this place so special. To Susan, Bob, Dennis, Laszlo and Danielle, we can never thank you enough for truly making our wedding the best day of our lives! You all are generous, kind, and FUN souls and we can't wait to come back and see you all this winter when we come up to hit the slopes! Ryan & Lauren

Had a great time this weekend I will be going back my only problem was people who work there assumed I have never skied before lol I've been skiing for over twenty years the staff are dicks and it was a little patronizing but that shouldn't keep you away from the experience it's not the mountains fault people have no clue I don't remember how many times I had to hear stay on the green from the chair lift guy so annoying and the girl who worked inside at the caf "must be your first time in ski boots granted" I was walking funny because my socks were to big and were all folded over and scrunched up so annoying that people make assumptions

This is my favorite ski area in Catskills. Nice variety for groups. They make great use of the lodge space which looks small but has everything needed. Skiing is subject to snowfall, but in good years it's the best and their snowmaking has really improved the last few years. Even in this awful season they had plenty of terrain options. There are also some nice woods if you hunt around and are a good skier.

What a gem Plattekill is. Old time ski lodge and bar, live music and some of the best skiing you can find in the catskills. I'll never go anywhere else. Seems to be a well kept secret too with short lift lines and open trails eliminating fear of crashing into someone on the crowded slopes elsewhere.

I want to start off saying this review is based only on the 2 hour morning bike adventure beginners package. I love to ski this mountain and have had no problems until this weekend. My two teenage cousins (14 and 17) were in town and we thought it would be fun to do some downhill biking. We are beginners, so we decided that having a guide would be best. We met our guide (well sort of... he never gave us his name). He gave us our protection gear that either did not fit or was malfunctioned . I was on the lift trying to buckle my helmet but there was no buckle! So my first run of the day was not safe. He started us on the first trail stating he wanted to see where our levels are. The trail was a little rough at parts and my cousins had a hard time keeping up. We all made it down with a couple of crashes... We got on the lift for a second run and at the top, our guide asked us how we felt. The boys were clear that they didn't feel too confident. At this point he should have taken us to the green trail. Instead, he refers to my cousins as "girls". Clearly not considering our comfort levels, our guide takes us down the same trail then we switched to an even harder trail and barely made it down again with a lot of crashing. Most of the time the guide was out of sight. At this point I asked my cousins to go ahead of me so I can keep an eye on them. The guide thought that was strange and didn't understand why I didn't ride upfront with him. By our 4th run we are all tired and our guide asked us if we wanted to try a different trail. We were thinking "oh, he will finally take us on something easy". But no, he jumps off a rock almost crashing into a tree with no gear on, besides a helmet and lets us know that was his first time jumping off that rock. Nice example for the kids! This trail was really difficult and our guide yelled out that he forgot how rocky it was before wheeling away out of sight again... We found him waiting for us at another jump. He pointed out a way for us to go to meet him and went for the jump. Again taking off out of sight leaving me to help the boys walk their bikes down the really steep slope and climbing back to the top to get my bike. At this point we still had a half hour left but decided we were done! The guide asked me if I wanted to do one last run with him and leave the kids behind and I said no... We go to check in our gear and were charged $25 for damage on one of the bikes. The kids were pretty banged up themselves. It was clear to me that we were not once on a green trail. We basically spent most all of our time on the red and blue trails. So much for the beginners package! Why were we charged $25?!? Perhaps if our guide was doing his job, he would've taken us on trails appropriate for our level of comfort and where the risk of damaging the bikes would've been lower.

Soooo I went to the coolest wedding here. The bride and groom actually RENTED the entire place for their wedding day. Each guest got a lift ticket and carte blanche on the slopes all day, which was beyond amazing. It's a little mom-and-pop kind of lodge, which was absolutely perfect. The sixty or so guests could ski, snowboard, and tube all day. Then as the sun went down, all of the guests gathered at the foot of the mountain as a string quartet played Pachelbel's Canon to the bride and groom skiing down the slope together. They met the minister at the foot of the mountain, and vows were exchanged. A small lodge like this is the ONLY place you can do something like that! Afterwards, there was an amazing reception in the lodge -- people walked around with trays of delectable appetizers, followed by a charming dinner and dancing upstairs. We all wore a mishmash of snow boots and formalwear. How cool. I'm not sure what it's like to ski here normally, but my date, a total ski nut, claimed that it was the best place to ski in the area. Just judging by the entire day I spent there for a private event, it was a dream come true.

The snow tubing was great. Had an slight issue and the staff were nice enough to handle it professionally. We really had a nice time. If you need to warm up, and are of age (of course), there's a great bar upstairs and the bartender is amazing! His drinks are as awesome as his personality! I believe his name is John. Just an all around Good guy!

Sorry to read that other post. I went their with my sister and her hubbie and two pre teen kids. We loved it! Ski instructor was great with the kids. Parked our stuff on a table and came back and it was still there. Brought our own lunch so not to eat the normal stuff they serve at ski slopes. They had new snow making, trails were in great shape. Rental guy was friendly and really helpful. Jumped out from behind the counter to help the kids. Front desk gave great recommendations for places for dinner. We went back for the tubing after dinner. Businsesses should never have a bad day but maybe they did. It's a small family run resort so maybe that counts for it - but that was one of the reasons we loved it.

This is the best place to get married. It offers a unique experience that wedding guests will remember forever with the chairlift ride to the top of the mountain. The view at the top is to die for; all you can see is continuous mountains. The staff are wonderful, friendly, and very helpful. They truly take the time to make your day special. I wouldn't have wanted my wedding anywhere else. Beautiful place inside and out. The food is delicious too! My wife and I received lots of compliments. I encourage anyone to get married at Plattekill. We got married on 05/17/2015 and the weather couldn't have been more perfect.

This is a great area for skiers, not for resort seekers or corduroy hounds. Plattekill makes the best possible use of 1100' vertical with virtually no run outs. The pitch goes right to the lifts, which never have a line, so you just about always ski into the chair. The in-bounds terrain ranges from low-intermediate to easy "expert", nothing too difficult and a good place for anyone who wants to improve their game. If you like glades / woods this is a great spot because it's riddled with mountain bike trials and other off-piste features that are great fun for the more advanced skier when the snow cooperates. The location of Platty is ideal for catching more snow than the surrounding mountains, but the snow making is limited compared to Hunter and other local peaks. Like MRG, they rely more on natural snow, particularly for the expert and off-piste skiing. Another ingredient of the secret sauce is that they are not open Mon - Wed. (except for holidays and powder days) so the snow condition is much better. Less grooming and better quality man made snow that is well drained and less likely to compact. If there's a big dump mid-week you can get there early on Saturday and still find un-tracked snow. The philosophy here seems to be ski where you want, just don't expect us to come fetch you -- fair enough in my book. The lodge is rustic but serviceable and this is the kind of place where you don't need a locker. Toss your stuff under a table and hit the slopes. A large percentage of the people here are regulars, and the mood is very laid back, family friendly, and un-Hunter-like. The slopes are easy to navigate so competent kids can easily go off and venture on their own. The bar has a nice selection of beer, and the little grill upstairs makes some very nice food for reasonable prices. In season they usually have some pretty good live music on Saturday afternoon and early evening. Due to the high number of regulars who ski here it may seem a little clannish to the newbie but everyone is very friendly. The staff here is very accommodating but these are local people and this is not the 4-Seasons. You'll get a lot further if you check your attitude at the door. CONS: The lifts are older and slow, but since there is never a line .... The parking lot can be a mud-fest.

Can't say anything about skiing here as we regularly go there in the summer to race downhill bikes. It's a really great park for that, very varied trails from serious expert to beginner. The staff are very friendly and helpful towards all the riders. Serves some great burgers on the patio during race days along with adult beverages. While its an older style resort, its small enough care, and not run by a corporation, if you have any issues then the owner/manager is normally on site and will be happy to talk with you directly.

Incredibly awesome place. You walk in and feel like family. Go out and ski Blockbuster or Powderpuff, doesn't matter, it's a great time. Lodge is warm in temp and feel. Great ski school and awesome people. Met this guy Bobby C who made you feel like you were family. Great atmosphere in the lounge that overlooks the base area. Wouldn't ski anywhere else!

My partner and I bought tickets from Liftopia and due to a myriad of issues got to the mountain an hour before closing. The friendly homey atmosphere was great and the staff said we could come back and use the Liftopia voucher towards tickets on another day. They do home cooking there! I am a very sensitive celiac and I got the homemade chicken soup. They were very knowledgeable and also had individually wrapped gluten free deserts I could eat. Can't wait to actually ski there! Going back this year. Wonderful owners and staff, such a homey warm feeling there!

Really enjoyed this mountain today. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The open trails were well-groomed, given the weather, and offered a nice variety of difficulty. I hope to come back in the spring or summer for mountain biking.

This mountain isn't a bad mountain just the customer service at this mountain is horrible. I will not be taking my money here ever again. My husband took a spill and lost his lift ticket because they were printed on crappy paper...but we still had the receipt...so we went back to the desk to get another ticket printed and they wouldn't give us one! We even went back to the same person that checked us out to begin with and she wouldn't give us another lift ticket to replace it and said we had to buy a new lift ticket which is ridiculous.
