Amazing peaceful place. Right there near the city, but feels like somewhere far out of town. Comfy spot for a medium sized friends & family braai! Huge inside 'hall' caters for all-round seasons & weather conditions. Bit pricey for your standard SANParks, but given the location & service, understandable.

It's not an adventure destination, just a delicate hidden piece of history, unassuming and never built to be anything but assuming. In it's aged and deteriorated state it will offer some moments of deep thought or perhaps nostalgia to those who have a propensity for such endeavours. Those seeking adventure, or information boards or something curated will be unsatisfied.

One of the most Historic sites of Cape Town relating to the people that made and make Cape Town tick. It started well before Antonio de Saldanah 1503 where many men and woman, families have lived along this historic river. The Stoneage tools and fossils date back to a prosperous civilisation many thousands of years ago. A Forest, a temperate climate teeming with wild animals. But alas it did not take very long after the first Europeans to set anchor and change history. It only took 5 years to cause the Water to be polluted and people to get sick. This is story of a life giving River that has changed through time. Come and explore its hidden secrets. And yes 1888 Washhouses and the Riverbanks have a beautiful story to tell. See you there soon.

I've stayed at the wash house several times and it's now become my default choice of self catering accommodation when I go to Cape Town. It's clean, secure and centrally located in the heart of the city at the foot of table mountain which makes it easy to go anywhere from there.

Attended a wedding but this place is equally suited for any occasion. I think it would accommodate about 80-100 people quite comfortably

Overgrown and run down surroundings. Too many vagrants and squatters in the adjoining parkland areas
