Outstanding food and excellent service at a great price. I had the Fish Soup and the Dover Sole my fist visit. Soup was good, the sole was outstanding. Next visit I got the Seafood Chowder and the Trio of a small Sole, a Sea Bass filet and a Mackerel filet. All were well prepared. I want to go back already!

Visiting family, from Australia. Lovely family run business. Fresh fish and seafood..including fresh calamari. Lobster was stunning. Home made crowded and homemade dessert. Visited several times in our 9 day trip. Sorry didn't take more photos... too busy eating

Fabulous family meal out - the lobster platter was amazing. The garlic mushrooms were definitely a stand out and so delicious. It’s our second visit and we can’t wait to come back again. Big shout out to the staff who were incredibly friendly and welcoming!!

Over priced burned food, staff who are more interested talk up the manager than working, after waiting 20 minutes a staff member took the order, again more interested in anything else.
When the food came it was burden and cooked in old oil, they also cook chips in the same oil as the meat so be wear if you don't like eating meat you've been warned. The staff member dropped the food on the table and ran away before we could even ask for sauces. Would not recommend unless you like getting ripped off, and eating burned food. If I could give a 0 star I would.

A friend of mine recommended Platters, and I definitely owe him a beer!
Fantastic, friendly service with great quality seafood!
My daughter and I both went for the cod and chips, and we were not disappointed. The batter was perfect, with a slight crunch and a beautiful flaky cod inside - delicious. The chips were very good - non-greasy, which is very rare today!
We both had a pudding of chocolate fudge cake and crème brûlée; we were absolutely stuffed!
The restaurant is a nice, friendly size with colourful, sea-themed artwork on the walls.
We would happily return!

Absolutely fabulous dinner- super fresh mussels, sea bass, prawn and crab meat. Flavorful and fresh seafood that is a dream.
Even had fresh custard with apple pie dessert that tasted homemade and had just the right level of sweetness.
Would definitely recommend folks who visit the Barbican to give this hidden gem a try. It's a cosy place that belies a masterful chef.

Yelp
I was recommended to visit here as I was told it was the best Fish and Chip Restaurant on the Barbican, unfortunately I cannot agree.
It was full when we called but the waiter told us to pop to the Dolphin pub a couple of doors away and he would pop in when a table was available, and sure enough he did.
The table we sat at didn't have enough room to get my fuller figure between the table and seat however I did manage to squeeze in, both the table and bench were fixed to the floor. I know I could do to loose a pound or two but this place was a joke.
I ordered Fish and Chips which were OK but I can assure you we can do a lot better up here in East Yorkshire, and as for the Fish Pie my partner had she had to send it back the first time as the mash was cold even after it came back she wasn't over impressed.
My advice is keep walking past !!!

Yelp
A very reasonable lunch menu (6-10 pounds), and as I always follow the give me your freshest plate of fish you have rule, you really can't go wrong.
Though I wouldn't come here for dinner, the proper menu prices are not reasonable given the commonplace position of this restaurant, but I'm sure their is a rent to match given dockside location. Shame as the monkfish dish advertised is what originally enticed me but 18 pounds it is slightly too expensive.
They passed me grilled sardines in the end, which were indeed fresh and brought in from the sea that morning, served w bread and chips (w a nice homemade chunky tartare sauce which only went on the chips as sardines were lovely as is), topped off with glass of white wine I was plenty happy and the rest of the families around me seemed to also appreciate the reasonably priced lunch menu and enjoyable atmosphere. 3 and a half stars for lunch.

Yelp
I was a bit nervous about eating at Platters.. the reviews weren't great (although they were a few years old) but my colleague wanted to eat there.. so I was going! Platters was established in 1980 and is right on the harbour front; so surely the best seafood you can get!?
I stuck to 1 course (the prices seemed high) and I went for the lemon sole which came with chips and a side salad. My colleague went for the clam chowder and then the platters 3 fish main.
All portions were large! 3 fillets of lemon sole and a mountain of chips. The clam chowder looked like a meal in itself and came with lots of bread. The fish was tasty, although a bit over cooked I felt. The chips were good and the home made tatar sauce was a winner! Dinner for 2 with soft drinks came to £46. I'm not sure it was worth that much but it was a good sizeable meal. Service was ok but maybe didn't match the price. Perfectly cooked fish and it would have got the 5 stars from me!

Yelp
One of many fish and chip shops on the Barbican, certainly not the best, the best thing is the service, staff are usually quite friendly, and chips are not bad, but nothing special.
I think the fish is sourced locally, which is good, but it doesnt really make up for less than wonderful food.
Overall, not a bad place to grab some chips while on the barbican, but certainly there are better places.

Yelp
Understated venue but fantastic food. Service excellent. Chips...too many!

Yelp
Lost the plot !!
Researched this place and asked a local - sounded good and was really looking forward to a great meal.
Arrived 4pm place deserted so we were sure to get great service, waiter was surley and unhelpful.
Looked at the menu and the blackboard and both offered Turbot - but alas they did not have any.
Ordered for starters "Webber" scalops - certainly not fresh :-( and Kalamari - soogy batter and rubbery fish crap value at £6.85, I had to ask for a wine list.
Main courses, Sea Bass - was good, Dover Sole - overcooked and tough - yuk and both served with FROZEN chips.
Service did not improve - total score 1/10, total cost for two £70 - ripped off !
Needles to say we will not return again.

Yelp
I can't recommend this place highly enough. Ok the place is rather compact and the service seems a little rushed at times, I guess thats largely due to its popularity and the staffs eagerness to get customers through the door. If it is full then they normally say give us 5-10 minutes. I'm not saying they'll kick you out the door if you've finished eating.
I can only comment on the fish and chips, which are excellent, available in medium or large, they don't do small portions. The fish has always been succulent, the batter crispy the chips perfect and perfect peas (not mushy), usually accompanied with a large pot of tartare sauce.
We always leave feeling as though we've had a good meal, feeling full but never bloated. In fact after a walk along the Barbican, I often feel I could go back and have the same again.
Never had a dessert, never had room. I've never left disappointed hopefully you won't either.
I can't speak for the takeaway side of Platters never tried them.

Yelp
This is a very good seafood restaurant. Informal simple and well cooked. It has a very good long standing reputation locally but I fear that it needs attention to detail style and cooking if it is not to slip back amongst the more ordinary places around the Barbican. Since 'Rocky' the founder died a couple of years ago the loyal punters have mostly kept coming back but it is not as good as it was. The chefs seem to run between here and the modern burger place owned by the family just round the corner and the prices and qualty on the menu is wobbling. We still go regularly but the busy fun spontaneity is evaporating and unless something is done we shall be looking to eat fish elsewhere -- but where?

Yelp
Very good informal fish restaurant. Classically and simply cooked very fresh fish from the fish market.

Yelp
very mixed feelings. This was my favourite fish place for twenty odd years. Simply cooked very fresh fish and shell fish, in a simple slightly idiosyncratic building. A bit of a cross between a lorry drivers caff and an ecletic social rainbow drawing in judges heart surgeons and fishermen. It was bustling friendly and a good fun place to be. Then the founder Rocky died. prices began to creep up. his family tried to slightly modernise and produced a worse and pricier menu and having left the vast number of local and visiting customers slightly uneasy, then took their eyes off the ball altogether by opening a brash modern steak bar just around the corner, called predictably, 'Rocky's'. meanwhile standards and ambience in Platters slipped. Unfamiliar staff seemed to have no idea what the place stood for and why people liked it. The chefs seemed to switch between both premises and the effect on the fish was obvious. Now, although the loyal regulars still call in from time to time, no one is sure whether the place will pick up and get back to the fun old times. What a pity.
