Play Design Hotel 玩味旅舍

We stayed here for our first two nights in Taipei and cannot recommend Play Design Hotel enough. The hotel is well located a 7-8 minute walk from the Zhongshan MRT station, with many 7-11s, coffee shops, cafes and restaurants located nearby. It is also 10 minutes walk from the lovely Dihua street and the bus to the National Palace Museum. We were warmly greeted by Gina and given cold water and a thoughtful map produced by the hotel, as well as personal recommendations for local dining and bespoke dining. We then explored the local area including Dihua street and returned to check in approximately 3pm. We stayed in the room designed by Japanese artist Naho Ogawa and it was amazing. I couldn't possibly explain in detail all the thoughtful designs and finishing touches included in the room, but suffice to say it was spacious, modern, comfortable, had an amazing shower, and a beautiful view of Taipei 101! The dual washer/dryer was much appreciated too. Our friend stayed in the Tea room and this was beautiful also. This is a great place to base your holiday in this wonderful city and I can't recommend it highly enough.

My wife had to go to Taipei and Play Design Hotel was recommended to us. This place is basically a cross of a boutique hotel and a Airbnb.|Location on a reasonably quiet street was very convenient for us with the MRT about an easy 10 min walk away. Easy access to grocery shops, coffee bars, restaurants and of course the Ningxia night market.|The rooms are basically styled in the industrial concrete look fitted with very modern amenities and of course the interesting design pieces from local designers. The room we had (No. 3) was great. It was a decent size and comfortable. It had the usual TV, mini fridge etc but also as a bonus had a washing machine / dryer and a ceiling heater / dryer in the bathroom. If there was one thing on the dislike list, it would be that the bed was a bit too soft for my own liking.|Finally on the staff there, they were great. From check in to check out, any queries to room cleaning, the service was first rate. The reception desk is only open during the day but the staff can be contacted at anytime if needed. If you are looking for a traditional type hotel in Taipei, this might not be for you but if you are willing to try something different then I would highly recommend this hotel to you.

The idea is to experience design. All the furniture and amenities in the room were carefully selected to bring out the best of Taiwan designs. The staff took the time to explain each and every item in the room. We had the tea room. It's interesting to know the many different flavours of local tea using one of the three available cups (made by local designers) in the room. You can write your thoughts about the tea on a piece of paper along with other people who stayed there before you. Oh yea, the bed is very comfy!

This is such a cool little hotel with only 5 rooms in a great location. Less than a 10 minute walk to the Zhongshan station The decor in the hotel room was brilliant. Lots on interactive lighting & fun stuff. The room was large, had a very comfortable bed, a huge bathroom with a washer & dryer and fast wifi. It also has a small fridge full of drinks which are included. The hotel does not offer any type of food, but there were some night markets right around the corner which had some great food. This was my first trip to taipei & I would definitely stay again. The hotel had a good neighborhood feel about it. Also 5 minutes walk towards the MRT were several little laneways that were full of cafes. It was nice exploring those lanes as well. In general I couldn't fault this place, I fely like I was staying in an apartment instead of a hotel but if you like the more traditional type of hotels then you might struggle with this place.

Located at Zhongshan area, just 5 mins drive from Taipei main station. And walkable distance of about 10mins to the Zhongshan or Shuanglin train station. Play design hotel is located in one of the normal looking building from outside, but going up to level 5 will give you a wow wow factor. When we arrived, the receptionist showed and explained the different room type and its inspiration. It's was really nice. All rooms have natural sunlight. The furnitures in each room were unique. Place was clean, cemented floor, bed was comfy, towels were packed in a transparent bag for hygiene purpose, toilet was clean and rather big.|Just around the area, there are many food stores around, ranging from Japanese food to the traditional local food. So no worries about being hungry! 5 mins walk from the night market. Diagonally across the road, there is a supermarket and a coffee branch. |Lastly, my picture tells it all.

Play Design Hotel is an awesome hotel! Cool interiors, each piece of furniture used in the rooms and throughout the hotel appeals to the senses, yet very functional. Location is good, very accessible to Taiwan's local culture, and a lot of boutique shops and cafes are nearby. What i like best though are the people, very warm and wonderful, they go out of their way to assist us and make us comfortable. Everything made for an amazing first trip to Taiwan. I would love to stay here again when I go back.

This is one of the most intriguing hotel I have stayed. One could only imagine how to live alongside those nicely curated interior designs in each room. You can even pick your own furniture and décor if you would like to. I have stayed in the Lab room and loved every single detail they put in. The check in process was fun because the receptionist would spend about 30 minutes going through every designer's note within my room. Then if time permits(no promises though), we get to see the rest of the rooms. Everything you see in the hotel is up for sale unless otherwise stated. We had fun and would definitely recommend this hotel to those who'd love to add a little funkier style in your itinerary.

A very small hotel will only 5 rooms with individual concept in each room. The larger room were booked but never the less all rooms are okay size. We stayed 4 night and had a wonderful time. The staff even took their time to explain the concept of each room down to each furniture for us to truly appreciate this hidden gem. We love the location is just in close proximity night market. If are not info fancy and big hotels. Give this place a try. We would definitely want to visit again.
