A Baja California Sur Road Trip to Three New Luxurious Design Hotels

"A famously beautiful circular bay of white sand and shallow, crystalline waters that frequently tops lists of Mexico’s most stunning beaches; because of popularity and local restrictions it can reach capacity, requiring visitors to plan around entry limits. The bay’s postcard scenery and calm, clear water make it an iconic natural draw for the region." - David Amsden David Amsden David Amsden is the editor at large at Travel + Leisure and the author of the book “Important Things That Don't Matter: A Novel." Beautiful protected bay and sand dunes. Water is shallow and great for wading around. Nice views from the bluffs abo e the bay. To note: We were told before the gate we couldn't bring our own food and lawn chairs/umbrellas, which is false. Many people could be seen with their own stuff and food on the beach. The guy at the gate was just trying to rent his chairs and umbrella for 400 pesos.

One of the most beautiful beaches I’ve seen. The water is so shallow you can see the bottom. There’s a short hike to the top of the hill where you can take the best photos. Make sure to wear the right footwear since the trail is a bit rocky. There’s lots of marine life I saw plenty of fish and an eel! Get there early to beat the crowds. Parking fills up fast get there before 9 AM.

This place is absolutely beautiful. The water is crystal clear, easy to swim, snorkel, and relax with no waves! Easy walk to mushroom rock for a great photo opportunity! It’s regulated pretty heavily with limitations on how long you can stay, which is the only bummer. Highly recommend!

Very beautiful beach with crystal clear water. Two available time slots: 8:00 and 12:00 We recommend to arrive at least 30 minutes before these time slots. Once the maximum of people is reached, you will not be able to get in. YOU DO NOT NEED ANY TICKET! The Beach is free, you just need to wait in the queue. Don't forget to walk up the hill for a beautiful view point (go at least one hour before closing the beach, otherwise they will not let you walk up). Toilets available on the parking (around 10-20 MXN).

We’ve traveled a lot, seen beaches all over the world but Playa Balandra is different. The first thing that hits you is the water impossibly clear, shifting between turquoise, teal, and soft jade as the light moves. It’s shallow for what feels like forever, so you can wade out and still see the ripples dancing around your feet. The whole place feels untouched, almost sacred. The hills cradle the bay in this perfect natural curve, and the calmness is something you feel as much as you see. No crowds, no noise just wind, salt, and that unreal blue stretching out to the horizon. THE PARK IS FREE DONT LET ANY VENDOR TELL YOU OTHERWISE 20 minutes from La Paz. We took a scooter 🛵

Google
Beautiful beach It's a beautiful place in which you can pass some hours of nice views You can bring your own food/drinks. Avoid glass and please take the garbage with you. There is 2 possible access: at 8:00h and 12:00 The maximum stay is 4 hours. The have a limited access for every group. You need to stay in the line for ~40 minutes During the line some guys are selling drinks, food (ceviche) and it's good. Be prepared because inside there is no option to buy nothing. The beach is clean, after every group the staff clean the place. The water is cold after Aug/sep but it's still a must to do activity. Consider there is some sea wildlife (jellyfish, mantas, etc), step grounding your feet and cover your skin with large clothes (jellyfish can burn your skin, nothing to die but it's better to avoid it). portable toilet is on the place if needed Parking lot is free of charge and safe

Totally worth the drive from Cabo for an excellent day trip to this beautiful beach. Goes knee deep for a long stretch, and although we were warned about stingrays, we didn’t see any. You do have to walk shuffling your feet to avoid stepping on one but its totally worth it. Great view from the top of the hike, definitely check it out

Google
There are a few time windows you can be in the beach (8:00-12:00, and 13:00-17:00). Just buy the tickets online on the website and come whenever. Highly recommend to rent sun umbrella. The beach itself is great. Shallow water with many fish.

Yelp
This beach has been rated best beach in Mexico many times. Pictures don't do this beach area any justice because it is just that beautiful. Its where the desert mountains meet the Sea of Cortez. If you do plan to visit keep in mind that the government now limits the amount of visitors per day. That means that people form a line to get in about 1hr to an 1hr and a half ahead of your allotted time slot. Is it worth it? Yes, because it's going to be a beautifully unique experience that, yes was worth the effort. Preservation of the area is now a top priority of the government. The water is crystal clear and full of fish.

Yelp
It was really nice and gorgeous views. No charge fee to go inside. Watch out for the scams trying to charge you.

Yelp
Beautiful view, went in the morning. Not sure you need the $23 umbrella rental, at least in May, maybe in heat of summer.

Yelp
It's very Beautiful here. Definitely worth the 2 hour drive from Cabo San Lucas. This secluded gem is hidden along a drive full of desert like surroundings.......it's like a mirage in the middle of nowhere. It's very peaceful here and love every minute of our stay. It's the most beautiful Beach in Mexico I've ever been to. Calm, clear, & warm ocean water with lots of colorful fishes. You can literally walk across the waters for miles and the water only goes up to your waistline. We witness mini crabs under rocks and the sand is so fine that it felt nice. I will recommend water shoes if you are planning to walk to the famous mushroom rock. The water is very therapeutic but It's more fun to walk over with friends. Must bring the following: SWIMSUIT (wear under your clothing already - no place to change), TOILET PAPER (they had portable potty but no toilet paper, luckily we bought wipes), WATER SHOES, CAMERA, BLANKET, UMBRELLA, TOWEL, FOOD (a must), SUNSCREEN, WATER PROOF CAMERA, HAT.......etc. There's plenty of parking if you go early, but it does get crowded so plan accordingly. Just keep in mind the drive from cabo is 2 hours long.....imagine not having parking space when you arrive. I hope you enjoy this place like we did. Even the non swimmers will have fun here.

Yelp
Most amazing beach in the whole world. Every day is different from the tides flooding the palapas to super low to differ fish to clear water to sunsets it's just too amazing to put into words. Just 20 min away from la Paz and 2 1/2 hrs from Cabo. The snorkeling is terrific.

Yelp
Nice outing with a visiting amigos. When you go bring make sure you bring your own umbrella or get there early to score one of the many pomfon shaded Palapas areas along the shoreline. Also along with your sunscreen you want to bring a lunch beverages because there's no services there nor are there public or private restrooms. The water is Crystal Clear you can walk at least and half a mile and still be up to your knees sometimes chest the sand is very white and warm.

Yelp
One if the most beautiful beaches I've been to in all of Baja. You can walk in for miles and the water is still chest deep at most. Very calm waters. Very amazing waters!! Turquoise blue, clear water.. little fish swimming past you. I loved this beach. Plan on a day trip, bring a lunch. They have your typical beach people selling cut fruit (yum)., beer, they also rent chairs and umbrellas. What a gorgeous beach to enjoy.

Yelp
Beautiful beach, lives up to its descriptions in all the travel guides. Right on the Sea of Cortez, shallow depth, white sand, clear, blue-green waters. Walk around the first corner of the beach to get away from the crowded beach by the parking lot. Explore the rocky outcroppings. Watch out for small flurries of baby jellies- not dangerous, just a little annoying. Enjoy the beautiful weather and surroundings!

Yelp
Balandra is one of my favorite beaches to visit in La Paz BCS. It is located about 25min drive from La Paz. The beach offers turquoise blue clear waters that are amazing to walk and swim into. You can walk hundreds of feet into the ocean and will not sink in, 3-4ft deep. It's a Giant Natural swimming pool, perfect for Kids! I was a little skeptical to get in the water due to we were warned by locals to watch for stingrays, I recommend shuffle your feet in the sand. But really no Stingrays to be seen. There are vendors that rent kayaks and paddle boards. We had an amazing day enjoying the beach, waters, and taking all the vitamin D from the sun. My recommendation is to stop by an Oxxo and buy a cooler and drinks to go, you may also take snacks. Lots of sunscreen needed or get there early to get a Palapa, about 15 of them available for public use at no charge. Parking is also available at no charge. If by the time you leave and feel hungry, just drive about 7minutes to El Tecolote Beach and they have variety of beach front restaurants. Balandra is a must visit!

Yelp
Go to Playa El Tesoro beach about 8 mins away from this one. What the heck??!! Is this a joke? First off this place is way out in the desert. The beach is tiny, crowded and not even that great. What is the hype? Have seen much more beautiful beaches in San Jose and Cabo. If you are visiting La Paz from Cabo, save your trip. Big city with no so great beaches. Disappointed.

Yelp
Probably the most beautiful beach that I have been to in my life. You can walk all the way across the huge cove in shallow amazing water. Only downside is no bathrooms.
