Playa Cativo Lodge

We had an amazing time here - the setting is stunning. The staff were attentive, helpful in meeting our needs, yet unobtrusive. There was privacy as well as sociability. The pool and grounds are wonderful as is the food, service and rooms. All the restaurant and bar staff were so nice and made us welcome - nothing was too much trouble for them. The naturalist guides were truly exceptional - highly knowledgeable and empathetic to both us as guests and of course the fragile ecosystem they are conserving. We saw so much on our guided tours as well as when we just walked the grounds ourselves. Highly recommend Playa Cativo.

Playa Cativo is a stunning lodge located in its own conservation area on the north side of Golfo Dulce in southern Costa Rica.||The accommodation is elegant and stylish, either in rooms in the main building or separate cabins with plunge pools of their own.||The standard of food and drink is excellent, all served by a very capable and charming staff.||The range of tours and activities is extensive and the spa offers many treatment options. We particularly enjoyed a delightful trip with guide Valeria into the mangroves. The wildlife, particularly the birds, is prolific and the climate warm whether in the rain or the dry!||We can strongly recommend a stay at this delightful place.

This place is amazing. It's so peaceful, with the constant sound of waves and in the mornings the greetings of various birds. The views are breathtaking and makes one feel so immersed with the surrounding ecosystems. The place offers various activities and we had so many magical moments encountering the wildlife just on the property. Rooms were spacious, clean and quiet. The staff are so helpful, accommodating and great with kids. Honestly they made the experience a 10/10.

Playa Cativo is truly an experience. The eco friendly property is an oasis for natural interaction with tropical birds, animals, and everything in a real rainforest. The food is top shelf, most fresh from the on site farm, or caught in the Gulfo Dulce. The accommodations are plush. I was surprised that we had zero problems with insects! Not one mosquito bite! We spent 5 nights, which was perfect. The boat ride to the property was a treat! We saw mating green turtles and dolphins within 10 minutes. Probably most important was the caring attentiveness of all staff. They made it hard to leave!

We went for our honeymoon and could not have had a better experience! The staff is so personable, accommodating and makes sure you are taken care of every step of the way. We were fortunate to meet the owner, Mark, who arranged for a special dinner for us to celebrate being on our honeymoon. Edwin also took great care of us at most of our meals, however all of the staff are great! We highly recommend Playa Cativo to anyone who wants a relaxing trip while surrounding themselves in the beautiful nature that Costa Rica has to offer!

The staff are so professional and friendly and make your stay extra special. We were a larger group and they were so kind and flexible, making our stay warm and memorable. |The surrounding, surreal, and the property is stunning, with access to abundant wildlife sightings. Macaws and toucans greeted us upon arrival, dolphins swam alongside our boat. Every experience was incredible.

This was an extraordinary experience in an amazing setting. The staff and service is exceptional. The food is consistently of the highest quality all locally sourced or grown. The activities are a wonderful opportunity to experience the Costa Rica flora and fauna and the guides are incredible knowledgeable and personable. We cannot recommend this enough as a amazing way to truly experience Pura Vida.

A fantastic resort. Very organized and friendly. Staff provided excellent service. Edwin in the restaurant was outstanding. Food was fantastic and catered to special diets. A different menu every day we were there. Property was gorgeous. Yoga by the water and the best Thai massage I have ever had in my life - fixed an injury I had been suffering from for a whole year. An unexpected bonus. Thank you so much to Daisy - a very skilled massage therapist.
