Puerto Santa Maria is spoiled for choice when it comes to beaches - there's a beach to suit almost anyone's tastes - sport, sailing, beach clubs, wilderness, privacy, dog-walking....
Playa de la Muralla is one of my favourites. A picturesque crescent shaped beach of golden sand which is pleasantly sheltered from the Atlantic winds. It's also framed by the walls of the Santa Catalina castle at the western end.
From Puerto Santa Maria it's about a 45-60 minute walk along the coastal walking/cycling path which passes by Playa de la Puntilla and Puerto Sherry in addition to some shaded forest if you want to escape the sun. If you're driving there's plenty of parking.
On the eastern side there are several places to eat and get a drink and they all offer views overlooking the beach. It can get busy so if you want to snag the best spot you may want to reserve a table.
