Playa Negra Guesthouse

We stayed one night in the blue house and two nights in the yellow house. Both were great, but the yellow house has air conditioning which was a big plus for us. All the lodgings are on the property that has a swimming pool, resident sloths in the trees and walks out to the playa Negra beach. Marise and Pierre are great hosts and will set you up with anything you need. They connected us with a snorkeling tour of the Cahuita National Park reef which was fantastic. Cahuita itself is a nice little beach town that is less busy and touristy than Puerto Viejo but still has restaurants, a grocery store and everything you need. Playa Negra is a very calm and relaxing beach and so nice that it’s right outside the front door of this property! Highly recommend.

This was truly one of our best experiences in Costa Rica. We loved the garden and all the animals around. The room was good, nothing special but fair. Cahuita and the region is for us the best travel destination in Costa Rica. We met wonderful people and had a great time.

This was one of my favorite places in Costa Rica. Beautiful grounds with your own private nature walk. Walking distance to town. Beautiful beach. Very attentive hosts. We enjoyed using the outdoor kitchen by the pool. Highly recommend this place. So glad, I found this place.

Immaculate grounds, plenty of wildlife right in the yard, attentive service, comfortable room, pristine pool, and a wonderful host, Marise. We stayed in June - two fans were more than enough to keep the room cool, so the absence of air conditioning was not an issue for us. Fridge was perfect size, everything about the room was well-thought out - simple, but it had everything we needed, nothing we didn't. The location away from the center of the village is plus, it's a short walk - you can be anywhere in under 15 minutes at a vacation pace.

We saw more animals on the grounds than the park walk. Pool is great. Perfect location, where you can walk to food and music, and the beach is even closer.

Wonderful location, and very close to the beach. The garden is maintained well, and the wildlife that lives within the area is amazing. The staff we're really nice and helpful.

I would give this property 7 stars if that were possible. The grounds are beautiful, well maintained & full of wildlife. The rooms are clean & comfortable. There is a very relaxed atmosphere so you can slip straight into holiday mode & just enjoy the beauty.|When my transfer to Tortugero was cancelled the night before I was due to leave Marise very efficiently resolved the situation & organised a local transfer.Marise also recommended a local taxi driver & I was able to message him anytime I needed a ride.

Amazing vibe at the Playa Negra guesthouse. The animal viewing is amazing. Fresh water pool is lovely. Just wish we could stay longer
