Super 60s 70s stylish. Makes you feel like you are in a time machine I dressed as Elvis to meet the occasion they gave me a birthday pin cause who bowls on a valentines day lol

Don't let your first impression ruin a good time. Yes, it's an older facility, and it's down in a basement. Get over that, and you'll find everything is well maintained and clean. The shoes aren't the least bit scary😉 and the staff are helpful and friendly. Get some friends or family together and go have a good time at Plaza Bowling. My only complaint is parking. There's nothing they can really do about it, but be prepared to come a few minutes early so you can find a spot.

It's a nice change from the typical bowling places. It makes it feel alot more comfortable in a sense.

Our families came on Sunday Funday, we were greeted and our lanes set up. We put on our shoes and let the kids (1, 3, 5) bowl some balls. My little one’s first time was great, when we were waiting our turn on 13 we used a closed lane to practice a few rolls. My one year old was having a great time. Michael brought out the ball ramp for the kids to line up the balls as we decided not to use bumpers. He turned on the adjacent lane so my daughter could press the reset button after her practice rolls. That was very thoughtful and I appreciate the small things like that, they go a long way in my eyes. He checked up on us frequently to make sure we were doing well, the overall experience was welcoming and very family friendly. Thank you for the hospitality, we will be back soon for another Sunday Funday with the kids.

I highly recommend booking here for kids parties! We had nine young kids and some adults and it was such a blast. The party room was an excellent bonus to keep snacks and presents aside. I can't speak highly enough of the staff who were incredibly kind, helpful, and easy going. All of the parents were so impressed. Thank you so much, we will be back!

Walked past this place so many times over the years and finally went inside. The retro feel is so unique. The staff is friendly and professional. Definitely one of the best hidden gems of Edmonton.

This is a real gem of a place. The attention to detail is definitely worth experiencing. Feels very retro (I guess it is!!) Friendly, helpful staff. A great way to spend an hour.

Yelp
We hadn't been bowling in a long time and decided to give Plaza Bowling a try. We had a blast! We booked our lane a few days ahead and they called the day of to confirm. The place was packed with all different people. It's great for families or larger group events or date night. The vibe is super retro and nice. I highly recommend this place for a fun night out!

Yelp
I brought my 8 year old to Plaza Bowling today for an impromptu afternoon mother son date. The staff were helpful and fabulous! We met Trevor towards the end who's the grandson of the original owners from 1959! Plaza is celebrating their 60th Anniversary this year and they even have cute merch to celebrate! We selected a Plaza T-shirt sticker for $1 to go on our Thule. Every time I see it I will be reminded of today's fun date! It's a Tuesday afternoon so bowling was on special for just under $5 a game/person. I enjoyed an adult bev and my son a Mountain Dew. Our total for 3 games, 2 drinks, and shoes was just shy of $45. It was a fabulous date! (Oh and they have bumpers - thankfully!) The washrooms were clean and funky with b & w tiles AND both the mens' and ladies' has changetables - two thumbs way up! Plaza Bowling is located along 118th Ave in a basement so if stair mobility is an issue, this might not be the place for you. Next time I'd like to try some of their food but today we continued our adventure by walking next door to Lan's. 5 stars all the way - Can't wait to come back. PS Be sure to check out the cool memorabilia ranging from posters to vintage records held in 5 pin! Oh and the COOL pins for turkeys (3 strikes) and the Britney Spares! Yes, you read that right!!!

Yelp
Went for the first time today. Very clean and organized. The staff was fantastic and helpful, and had very upbeat attitudes. We will definitely going back. Much better than all of the other bowling alleys in Edmonton by far!

Yelp
So as I've only had delivery done through plaza bowling, I can't actually rate the physical place but everything involving beer, soda and doughnuts I can! What a neat local place to think about teaming up with other local food places. As I'm on Instagram a lot, I noticed a favourite doughnut place was tagging Plaza Bowling as they were delivering Doughnut Party small mixed 4 pack for a select Saturday. Brilliant timing! I had a friend that had a birthday to recognize and they have vegan doughnuts. The Catch. You get a surprise random doughnut selection. They did let me request it to be fully vegan (much appreciated, as one of my two boxes ordered was a birthday surprise!). Online ordering is fairly simple. Decent website and worked well enough on the old iPhone. Email alert was decently fast the order was complete but that was when the unknown hit. A lot of dead space on communication. I noticed others on Instagram asking too, so I held off until Saturday with my concerns. I found it very odd that still on Saturday morning (checked my email several times and reread the confirmation email just in case I missed something I needed to do) that delivery still hadn't been communicated. Not that I had anywhere to go nor could I get out of the house for a few days (darn pain!) but I waited around all Saturday and therefore felt I couldn't confirm when I could coordinate a birthday surprise drop off with another friend. I finally received a text around 2 pm but that was to inform me there was a 3 hour delivery window and that someone wide would be contacting me when they're closer to arriving. This seemed super odd. However, I was glad to finally hear something. Another text arrived from the lady doing the deliveries (which was well into the 2 hr mark abs delivery was close to 2.5 hours from that first text) to confirm my address and ask me to ha e my drivers license available for confirmation I am the person to receive it. A quick flash of the drivers license through my screen door and my things were left on doorstep. Finally my goods have arrived! I was quite happy with the mixed non-vegan box as my friend was happy. Some new to me flavours and some very enjoyable past flavours I could identify. As things went so late into Saturday, I couldn't surprise my friend with her birthday gift of beer & doughnuts. So we arranged to meet for Sunday afternoon. Doughnuts are large, light and fluffy. They held up good for the day wait. I did find it odd that the flavours weren't written down (as no one knew what you'd get). However that's not fault of Plaza Bowling by any means. It's just lucky that I've ordered enough and have instagram to be able to identify what the doughnuts were. I selected a four pack of local beer that was making a donation to something else in the community during the pandemic. I didn't try that as it was for the birthday girl but they got a good review when she saw the label. I also had ordered some craft lemonade Saskatoon soda from Saskatchewan. I had to check that it indeed was non-alcoholic as it tasted that great! Overall, awesome they delivered all the way to Sherwood Park. It was free delivery too as I was over the pre-determined amount for obtaining free delivery. Staff were polite in communications but there was that huge lag of times of unknowns. Not sure if that's because they're still getting things figured out for the new normal or if there was another reason. If I have another birthday to celebrate, I'll definitely think of them again as less driving I need to do to obtain a birthday surprise for a friend, the better chances I have these days to actually be able to visit my friends in a socially distant manner. I look forward to when things are fully open again that I can actually go into this bowling location to enjoy the beverages and entertainment.

Yelp
I just love coming here. The shoes are great, local beers on tap, they have wine, food, air-conditioning - why did we leave again? I made a lane reservation by email on a Saturday for that evening - no big deal... they responded quickly, although they do recommend emailing for reservations the day beforehand. If you want a guaranteed reservation - go a little early, like before 8. It got pretty busy, but they did the best they could getting everyone set up to play with all the calls and walk-ins - those gals on the desk were mavens of organization. Really, the tunes are pumping (and quality), the scoring is automatic, (which is great - I suck at it), and the feel of the place... really sends you back in time. The crash of the balls, the pins, the happy folks - whether or not they are 300 bowlers (heck, I'm happy to break 100!), we always have a great time. For 2 people 2 frames, shoes and a beer (I was too full from supper), was... $43 We had a ball. I know they have live music from time to time, and hey - FRED PENNER was there last Friday. I couldn't leave the house because of the air quality, but they have all the feels! The only negative - and they can't help it, is the stairs. Bowling alleys in basements were the norm when this one was built, so stairs. There are larger stalls in the washrooms though. Give them a call, before you go if you have mobility needs, and maybe there is an elevator somewhere that isn't up front. This gem is our favourite in town... it's close, but if you plan to go in July - call first as it's their low season and they might be on vacation or undergoing needed maintenance!

Yelp
Plaza bowling is an absolute delight. It is the first bowling alley I recommend to locals and a place I suggest to out-of-towners when they're looking for a fun night out in Edmonton. The owners have done an amazing job of preserving the retro vibes of an old-school bowling alley while keeping the space clean and in great shape. There is always something cool to look at on the walls. One of the main appeals of Plaza is their fantastic beer selection. They have 6 rotating taps that focus on the best of Alberta beer. Their food menu is small but mighty. Everything is prepared by Edmonton's own Drift Food Truck. They offer 5 different kinds of grilled cheese sandwiches and a few snacks. The spicy cheezie sandwich has changed my grilled cheese game forever. I always add crushed cheezies to my grilled cheese at home now. I've had the pleasure of subbing in for a team during one of their league nights. It never fails to surprise me that Plaza has managed to turn bowling night into one of the hottest tickets in town for millennials. Apparently the waiting lists for teams are extremely long and I can understand why.

Yelp
MICHEAL IS THE BEST !!! He has amazing customer service and made my experience amazing!!!

Yelp
Micheal Is what makes this place pop his costumer service is great he makes you want to bowl all day!!!

Yelp
I don't really know why I gave Plaza a measly 4 stars in my last review but after frequenting this amazing spot many times, I have to bump it up to 5 and would give it 6 if it were possible. I have no idea when bowling suddenly became the go-to activity for hip Edmontonians but Plaza Bowling is packed with good times, cool people, great beer and a surprising retro-chic vibe. Contrary to the usual alleys, you won't find many kids at Plaza on a given evening and instead you can find local craft beers, well-groomed beards, and lots of plaid. There are also some amazing grilled cheese sandwiches from the Drift Food Truck menu and the spicy cheezy one is heavenly. At the end of the day bowling is bowling and the 5 pin alleys themselves are pretty standard. Of course the charm of this place is in the contrast of the latest in craft beer with pennants from the 60s extolling the bowling prowess of generations of Edmonton bowlers. The staff at Plaza are enthusiastic and wonderful, always happily serving big pitchers of delicious beer and doing their best to remember shoe sizes if you're a regular. Plaza Bowling is a puzzling but charming spot that captures the essence of an old school alley with modern sensibilities intended to bring in a new demographic. It's a great spot to bring some friends but requires some planning ahead as it gets pretty packed. Definitely worth checking out if you want to enjoy a laid back evening with a retro twist.

Yelp
I organized a team building event on a Sunday evening at Plaza Bowling. Trevor was quick to respond to my request for info about booking a group and made it extremely easy over email to reserve. When I arrived, I chatted with Alanna who set up our lanes, asked how I wanted the tab to work and even gave me drinks tickets to give to my staff as the company was footing with bill for bowling and a drink for each person and this would make it easy to keep track. The lane itself is pretty retro but is clean and has a cool vibe about it. Likely due to the eclectic staff and young crowd that patrons Plaza Bowling. We ordered pizza from Panago (which they encourage on the website) and a guy came over to let us know it had arrived and even brought us a foldable table to set up on. When settling up the tab, Alanna tried a few options to give us the best price (the original group rate or by game/shoe rental) which was greatly appreciated. They carry lots of local brew, koombucha and have sandwiches from Drift. Although this place has been around forever, they've worked really hard in the last year to find their niche in the community and it shows. Unparalleled service, cool vibes, a poor scoring bowling/beer league, good food and local drinks can't be beat. It's far from home, but I won't hesitate to head back that way for a fun filled evening!

Yelp
I have many memories of Plaza Bowl from my childhood - birthdays, school trips. I think my mom was even in a league there for a while. I've always thought of it fondly but hadn't been back in many, many years. The one time I did attempt to go recently, they were closed! I went for dinner nearby last night and actually parked right outside. After our meal, hoping there weren't leagues in there, we decided to head down and see if we could knock some pins over. I felt like I stepped through a time machine and came out in 1993. Absolutely nothing has changed and I love it. There are 12 lanes, but they're not all in a row like other bowling alleys. There are six on each side of the room. The wooden benches remind me of old church pews. The bowling alley is in a basement, yet there are curtains all along the walls. I swear the lady working at the front is the same one from way back when, too. The price for a game is cheaper than other alleys - $4.50/game. Shoe rentals are $2.00. You can get a few snacks - chips and beer. The lady told me they usually close between 9:30-10pm. There are leagues every night except Thursday night. We went on Wednesday shortly before 7pm and the teams started playing right around 7pm, although they were only using six of the lanes. Call ahead if you want to be sure. They don't make 'em like this anymore.

Yelp
How have I lived in Edmonton for 16 years and not known about Plaza Bowling? It's amazing! Right across the street from NAIT, it has a faded storefront you've probably driven by a hundred times. Don't be deceived though, inside is where the magic happens! Plaza Bowling is very simple and unpretentious, it's been around for decades and the decor reflects that. I found it really clean and comfortable and the staff were super friendly and helpful. The prices are very reasonable but the star of the show was the 60oz pitcher of craft brewery Situation Saison...for $17.95! Bowling is thirsty work and we were kept well hydrated;) I had made a reservation and I'm glad I did because the place was hopping...if you want to spend a fun and affordable evening with friends and/or family head on down to Plaza Bowling! (I will probably already be there, working on my 5 pin skills...the 3 year old in the next lane literally outbowled me.)

Kim N.

Yelp
For something that keeps you active and allows you to drink at the same time This place is where it's at! Seriously ligit this place has kept its integrity through the decades and is on the rise again! So much fun

Dave V.

Yelp
My favourite bowling alley in town. Doesn't look like it's changed decor since the 60's or 70's and I hope it never will. Walk through the little door, head downstairs and enter the past. Retro 5-pin at its best.

Jessica M.

Yelp
Plaza Bowl is like a blast from the past. Definitely one of Edmonton's hidden gems (I almost missed it walking by), this retro 5 pin bowling alley is seriously awesome: super clean, with a charming vintage aesthetic and a dedicated pack of regulars. Went with some friends for the first time on a Tuesday night, had no trouble getting a lane and we definitely plan to go back. The service was super friendly and personable, and the price was very reasonable (4 people played 3 games over the course of 2 hours, it was about $35/couple). Also, my husband forgot his cell phone and the staff hung on to it for him until he could pick it up the next day. This place is great, highly recommend. One small complaint: I know Plaza Bowl is old school, but it would be great if they had a simple website listing their hours and contact info. At the moment, you have to call to ask about hours and league nights and hope somebody is there to take your call, and they don't have an answering machine.

Jennifer P.

Yelp
I'm not a frequent bowler, but I came here once and had a lot of fun. It is a five-pin and it wasn't very busy, even though there are 16 lanes. The alley has a dive feel. It's not flashy, like other bowling places I've been to. But it'll do the trick to quell a craving to knock over a few pins on a Saturday night. There's a very, very small snack bar but you can order a bag of chips and a few beers to cool off during your games. This place probably has a busy night, so call ahead to check when that is. The neighbourhood's not the best, so make sure you lock your car doors if you're parking on the street.

Annie R.

Yelp
God I love this place! I came here for a work function (wherein we loudly and obnoxiously occupied half the lanes for about 2 hours) and everyone had such a nice time! The service was fast and friendly and I can see they have added some nice local beers to their boozey options. I love that it looks unchanged from the 60s. I can honestly say that bowling is funner here than anywhere else in town- trust me!

C W.

Yelp
Had the best time here. Great staff, great food, great facility. The crowd was a mix of ages, kids to late middle aged. You're going to have a good time here.

Stirling S.

Yelp
This place is amazing, lifted straight out of the 60's but with a great rotating craft beer selection from Canadian breweries. Classic aesthetic, awesome music, and authentic Canadian history and nostalgia. On top of that, the people that run the place, and the employees, are all salt of the earth, genuinely awesome people that always make me feel welcome. I've been there enough times to know now, there's no better place for a beer and a game of 5 pin anywhere in the city. A+, would recommend.

Ray M.

Yelp
Wow. That was a load of fun. Still smiling. The Stride family has operated the Plaza Bowl since the late 50's. What a great place to host a retro bowling night for our Rotary club. The good service started out with the first phone call. We needed space for a reception -no problem, no charge. Separate bills -done. Bring in our own food -okay. Plaza Bowl is RETRO but clean, clean, and offers automatic counters -Thankfully. The owner helped us set up the board and not with the attitude we've experienced elsewhere. They checked on us to make sure we were okay, which was a really nice touch. The young fellow at the desk was incredibly friendly, engaging, and knowledgeable. Great ambassador for the place. Even offered to help bring in the boxes of trophies and food we carted in. Do you want a 50's experience? Or just a family night? Plaza is your place. So many young people there too. My mom bowled there in the 60's, and I bowled YBC there after her. I've lived in Toronto and Vancouver before returning to YEG, and had forgotten about this place. Rediscovering this warm friendly customer-service oriented place was so good! What a great place. Thank you Plaza, you made our night a complete success! We will be back for sure.

Kerry W.

Yelp
A hidden gem! Plaza Bowl is an awesome family experience. We were a family group of 8, aged 9 to 79 and we all had a wonderful time. The facility is clean, well managed, and family friendly. The staff was very helpful and made us feel welcome. We highly recommend Plaza Bowl.

Kevin M.

Yelp
We went as a family to Bowl here based on a recommendation from a friend. Right away we were positively impacted by the Retro look and feel of the establishment. Even the benches were wonderfully restored. The service at the counter was prompt and very good humored. As we bowled we also were able to enjoy excellent craft beer. The people working at the bowling alley were very friendly. It turns out the bowling alley had been in the family for generations and there was a picture of their grandfather from back in the 60s that was on the wall. It was very cool. We enjoyed it very much and will return.

Adam H.

Yelp
Plaza Bowl might be one of those hidden gems of Edmonton fun. It's only $4.50 per game to bowl there which is about 50% of what you might to expect elsewhere. A group of like 50 of us went there last night and had so much fun despite a lot of people there not really knowing what they were doing. The elderly lady that managed the place was so nice and I would definitely go there again to support the business. It's definitely an older venue but that's part of its charm. The group was kind of loud lol but she didn't seem to mind like they would at most lanes. The place was practically empty and I'm told for the most part it usually is. If you're planning a part of a family gathering this is a fun and inexpensive place to go that's well deserving of the business. I definitely plan on going with friend and family in the future.

Bryer T.

Yelp
As with everyone else, running into this place was a welcomed treat. It has a delightful feel about it, maybe its the decor, the service or just because there arent many establishments like this any more. What ever it is, you need to get your ass down there asap.

Martha V.

Yelp
We were there January 21, 2015 to celebrate the birthday of an esteemed colleague from the office. Group of 17 or so, plus another co-workers two little girls. We had a BLAST!. Since they don't have food options, and just a few snacks, they allow customers to either bring or order their own food, so we did that, they set up a table for us to put the food on, set up the bowling lanes and we started having fun. At the end of the night the bill for the use of the facilities came down to $110 or so. This is a great, reasonably priced venue for team building activities and other celebrations. The staff were really helpful and friendly. Kids were allowed to play too and used a ramp to position the ball, so they were never bored. I will definitely go back.

Fern A.

Yelp
Went bowling on a Friday night. Cool decor. As someone else said its like stepping back in time but it has some modern touches. Its clean too. 5 pin bowling. Shoes are decent. They serve liquor too if you want to have a beer while your playing.
