"If you’ve been to Mexico City’s Plaza de Garibaldi, you may think you know what mariachi music is all about—dozens of different bands dressed in matching uniforms, hustling you for tips. In Guadalajara, however, there are plenty of calmer, more enjoyable ways to experience the tradition. In the heart of downtown, the Plaza de los Mariachis is a great—if slightly seedy—place to sit for a tequila, a bite to eat, and a late-night serenade. If you’re really into mariachi music, visit Guadalajara in August for the annual International Mariachi Festival."

I don't recommend going there at night since there are a lot of homeless that tend to stick around there at night. During the day it is absolutely lovely and beautiful. We went at night not knowing the condition we were in a large group so it wasn't a problem.

The place itself was not what I expected at all, in a bad way. I came here on a Tuesday at 8 pm (maybe I could’ve come sooner) there were barely any people, too much mariachis and everything was closed. There were also a lot of homeless people laying down and dirt everywhere. I came thinking it was going to be a big place but it was not, the monuments are really nice though; so if you were looking to take some pictures, then I recommend to take the photos in front of them. If you want to get a full experience out of this, maybe try going on the weekend and not on weekdays. I came and left quickly but I still picked up the bad smell.

Disappointed it has changed very drastically! Few store from the golden age.. to many street vendors with cheap Chinese toys! Unfortunately too many homeless people, mentally ill, very dirty Guadalajara has a lot of graffiti throughout the historical areas 🫣 Tourist Department needs to step up to home do something, is Not longer a place to be recommend for tourists travel ! Very disappointed

Dissapointing and I wouldn't say it's safe for tourists. We accidentally went at night time whilst finding our way around, as a group of 4 and felt unsafe, a lot of homeless people and the streets were very dirty. We went back the next day in the hopes it would be better in the daytime and unfortunately it wasn't. I felt very aware that I was a tourist, none of the Mariachi were performing (perhaps as it wasn't a busy season) but it was still just as dirty. There are some beautiful places in Guadalajara and this isn't one of them

I was a bit disapointed in the area. It was soooo busy and no Mariachi! We didn't stick around much because there were too many people.
