Ploughmans Restaurant

Great European-style atmosphere with delicious food. It's a bit away from town but well worth the drive. Service was fantastic. Sadly, when I wanted to tip the wait staff I learned that they don't receive tips. The boss takes all tips, which is a real shame. We don't have a big tipping culture in NZ but if I receive good service I want to make sure it goes to the person who delivered that service. Apart from that, we really enjoyed dinner here and looking forward to coming back.

I recently visited ploughman's with my family and had an incredible dining experience. The atmosphere was warm creating a comfortable and enjoyable setting to dine. We ordered seafood chowder which was flavorful, fried chicken was juicy and beer battered fish and chips were simply delightful. Everything was served hot and beautifully presented by chef. For takeaway, we ordered Farmhouse pizza and Al pepperoni pizza both pizzas were topped fresh with good flavor. The staffs were friendly and attentive. Ploughman's truly exceeded our expectations, and we would highly recommend it to anyone looking for delicious food and a great place to dine.

Fun English like pub with a lot of olde worlde paintings and fun signs, with cute cushions and well laid out, spacious dining. The food was pretty good and the service was very efficient. Our only comment is that the place might benefit from some young and enthusiastic staff. Overall an enjoyable experience.

Went there for lunch with the family, six adults and four kids. Absolutely beautiful food and the service was 5 star. Very friendly and would highly recommend to anyone. We will definitely be going again

Drove out of our way to try this place. Went in and asked a couple of questions with young lady at entrance. Clearly she did not want us there and did not want to be bothered answering any questions. She brushed us off and said “go sit anywhere”. We found ourselves a seat in an uncrowded spot and waited for server. We were ignored, despite several waitresses watching us, walking past us. It seemed like they were purposely going out of their way to avoid/annoy us. Finally after a long wait with nobody helping us we walked out. The place was not busy,. Totally unacceptable. My wife and I both have worked in restaurants and know how difficult the work is but treating people like this is not ok. Don’t bother going here and wasting your time. The waitstaff are unprofessional, surly, and incompetent.

I walked in expecting a cheesy, British-style pub and average food (for no reason, I just had my doubts). What I received was expertly prepared food which with rich flavours and that fit the theme perfectly. Service was exceptional. The gravy with the venison pie was superb and the pie itself had a perfect, crispy top pastry and succulent meat in thick sauce within. The pork belly was one of the crispiest I've eaten, so decadent. And the schnitzel is one of the best in the area. The pub itself is tastefully decorated in the British style which makes for a very cosy experience in winter with real (not gas) fireplace too. I can imagine the beer garden being great for shmmer too.

Brilliant! Such a great variety of delicious food, and a wonderful feel of a British pub! Great GF options too. We loved it so much we went 3 days straight!!

An underwhelming food experience, with the 3 portions of seafood chowder lacking taste and served luke-warm, a medium-rare steak was ordered and was delivered over cooked. The best thing was probably the bread that came with the chowder. Luckily the company made up for the disappointing meals. No recommendation from me.
