Ploughmans Restaurant

Meals were nice but we got overcharged for 2 drinks we didn’t have. I tried to tell the waitress taking our money and she said something about “they’ll be taken off the bill at the end”. I could see she didn’t understand so I phrased another way (ie - but we didn’t have those), to which she said we weren’t be charged for them. Bill seemed high so I asked for receipt. We weren’t charged for the 2 drinks we didn’t have and when I pointed it out, she said the transaction had gone through and there was nothing she could do. Which legally, obviously isn’t correct, but there was line of people trying to pay so I left it 🤯🤯🤯

Great European-style atmosphere with delicious food. It's a bit away from town but well worth the drive. Service was fantastic. Sadly, when I wanted to tip the wait staff I learned that they don't receive tips. The boss takes all tips, which is a real shame. We don't have a big tipping culture in NZ but if I receive good service I want to make sure it goes to the person who delivered that service. Apart from that, we really enjoyed dinner here and looking forward to coming back.

We absolutely loved everything about this restaurant. No noisy next door restaurants, superior outdoor facilities, and beautiful surroundings. And a short distance from a great swimming spot also. The menu was just like off MKR!! 5 star, and a special thanks to Jeanie, just a wonderful host!!

I walked in expecting a cheesy, British-style pub and average food (for no reason, I just had my doubts). What I received was expertly prepared food which with rich flavours and that fit the theme perfectly. Service was exceptional. The gravy with the venison pie was superb and the pie itself had a perfect, crispy top pastry and succulent meat in thick sauce within. The pork belly was one of the crispiest I've eaten, so decadent. And the schnitzel is one of the best in the area. The pub itself is tastefully decorated in the British style which makes for a very cosy experience in winter with real (not gas) fireplace too. I can imagine the beer garden being great for shmmer too.

Fun English like pub with a lot of olde worlde paintings and fun signs, with cute cushions and well laid out, spacious dining. The food was pretty good and the service was very efficient. Our only comment is that the place might benefit from some young and enthusiastic staff. Overall an enjoyable experience.

Pizzas definitely not worth $30! Disappointed with the quality as well. We called to order takeout and they didn’t have a lot of items on their menu.

This place has great large portions! The service is a bit slow to be honest, one of the only negatives about the place. We ate here twice and were stuffed and loved it each time. Be prepared to drop about $80nz for two people with a drink or dessert though! Photos as of feb 2020.
