Excellent flavorful meals!! We can’t enough as the food was delicious & simply amazing!! We had the perfect lunch!! The staff are friendly & attentive!! Top notch!! Thank you!!

This place has been one of our favorite places for a while. We always visit off season because once the warm weather and vacationers start flowing in, this place is hard to get into. Making reservations is a good idea if planning ahead. Thai seafood stew is always a win. Prices are reasonable for a special night out. We ordered the Plum Island punch, scallop/shrimp carbonara and seafood stew. Both were amazing. Service was on point. Although we were full, sharing the flour less chocolate torte was a must. Decident desert paired with the creme and raspberry drizzle was amazing!

Adorable little place just happened to stop at while passing through. Staff was super friendly, drinks were good, food was delish. View was super pretty with the sun setting. I highly recommend and love off season times to tour around

Out for 2 year anniversary. Good food, great service. *UPDATE* Just had another great meal this past weekend, great service too. Oh yeah, I asked the Profesora to marry me and she said YES.

Stopped here on our weekend away for a drink on St Patty's day. We got here early and sat at the bar. The bartender was attentive and the drinks were good. My husband just had a Sam Adams and I tried their blood orange martini which was on the menu. It was tasty. We decided to order an appetizer and tried the lamb meatballs and the bartender made me a special drink a lemodrop with blueberries. When they can out I cracked open to find it was completely raw in the middle. The bartender quickly scooped them up apologized and said I'll get you some new ones. The second set came out and the were also raw, but not as bad. She ended up taking them off the bill. Drinks were great though and so was the bartender!!

Awesome service. Great view on the front deck. Excellent food and drinks. Good live entertainment. Had to go back a second night on our vacation

This was by far the best seafood I have ever gotten from a resturant. Next time I'm in Massachusetts, I will absolutely be coming back.

I have to admit bias toward this eatery as my wife and I had our first date there. Happy to say the food has only gotten better over the years. The menu is now at the point where it's difficult to choose what to have as everything looks (and tastes) so appealing. Great selection of appetizers to share. It gets very busy around 5-7 as the bar is somewhat of a locals hangout--go to the inside bar instead. Great view of sunset over the marshes. Service is as good as it can be given how busy it can get. Staff is always friendly. The only negative is those dining room chairs--stylish in yellow but small and constructed of solid steel. Almost elementary school style. I'm not sure if they are meant to be beachy looking or to turn tables faster (way uncomfortable) but they accomplish both.

Yelp
Great spot just outside of Newburyport in Plum Island with some great food. The atmosphere is kinda rustic but cozy and the food was spectacular. Girlfriend and I ordered a clams as an appetizer, and for main courses...salad with Salmon, as well as Pork Chop. Everything was 5/5

Yelp
I used to work here. It's a terrible restaurant and I don't recommend. I was treated and talked to very poorly, some of the kitchen staff workers are very creepy, one of the bartenders is extremely rude and ignored one of my family members for 20 minutes causing him to eventually just leave. The working conditions are terrible and gross (flies, etc.). It was always unbelievably hot and I don't understand how people ate food in those temperatures. The food was okay but it's not fun watching it be made behind the scenes. "Regulars" often found themselves into the kitchen which is unprofessional and hard to work while they stand in your way. Never mind not eating here, don't work here.

Rosy R.

Yelp
Oh so want to give 5 stars, just for ambience and bar, but please tell me why?? In a space no bigger than a living room do you need a screeching loud guitar? So awful tonight we didn't stay! Really? Why??

Tommy T.

Yelp
I've lived here for 20 years and I'm embarrassed to admit that I didn't even know that Plum Island had little bars and restaurants. We visited Plum Island Grill on the early side of a Saturday evening. The design of the restaurant is a little awkward being that it literally has two sides. But never fear the youngish wait staff is ready and willing to help. We started with a caesar salad and stemmed little necks. The salad was very average so get your fresh greens another way. However the steamed clams were delicious and the broth begged for the very good bread. So we happily dunked away. For entrees we had scallops and I had grilled tuna with their three sauces on the side. The scallops and fish were fresh but here's the most interesting thing and why you should check this place out. While the food didn't totally blow me away there is something very delicate and unique with the chefs sauces. I could swear I tasted a bit of French blending and technique. I'll definitely be going back and I won't be steering away from the Thai entrees. After or before dinner take a drive around the island, if's beautiful especially as the sun sets.

Nicholas G.

Yelp
Great ambiance and staff but the 30$ seafood Thai stew was 80% vegetables. Three shrimp, one scallop and a tiny piece of fish.. a little overpriced. The left side of the building smelled terrible too.

Deidra B.

Yelp
We had 2 meals here. It was pretty busy but great service!!! The first night we had a white fish dish that came with mashed potato and a salad. It was good but not remarkable. We also had some wings and home made potato chips and oysters tempura. The homemade chips were my favorite! The oysters tempura were excellent! Nice friendly locals too had fun here!

Tyler C.

Yelp
The food was great, the service wasn't. Big portion sizes of savory pasta. The waitress ignored us except for taking the order. When bringing out the food the server spilled hot water onto me, I ordered clams. She took off right after without saying anything. When we tried to get the waitress's attention she ignored us. So we just ordered drinks from the bartender who was lovely.

Sara B.

Yelp
What a great meal we had!! Good service, amazing passionate chef and great tasting dinner and presentation. We went in on a Friday night as a party of 4 on a busy Friday night and they had a our ice cold drinks served up quickly and we ordered a dozen oysters- ice cold and shucked. Deliciousness. All four of us ordered the special two with salmon and two with halibut served over perfectly mashed potatoes and greens beans with a lobster salsa sauce. So tasty!! The deserts were also amazing - the chocolate creme brûlée and key lime pie great end to a wonderful meal. Can't wait to go back!!

Guido G.

Yelp
Excellent food and ambiance combined with sunset views over Plum Island. The Irish fish and chips are my favorite.

Elle D.

Yelp
Really good food - good view. Stopped going as the live music is too loud for conversation and also the recent remodel has very uncomfortable chairs (hard chairs that are more like stools with incredibly low backs - not easy to sit in. If the seating was more comfortable and the music was 86'd, we'd totally go back. Also - why no brunch on Saturday!?

Kenneth C.

Yelp
Okay so the hostess was thoroughly lacking in her ability to take down the number of guests and tell us how long of a wait there would be. Very challenging... The waitress came to get our drink order before we were given menus, the first round of martinis had 2 large bugs in the glass (drinks were sent back and replaced but not comp'd) and the drink service was slow. The tuna was the catch of the day and actually very tasty. The lobster ravioli was vary small in portion and the seafood carbonara had only 3 pieces of scallop and 3 pieces of shrimp. So your aren't really going to get your money's worth here. Dessert tasted great, probably one of the best tasting key lime pies I have ever had, and my credit card is bigger than the piece I got. The Chocolate torte is respectable, the apple crisp is a waste of money. Go anywhere else and you will be happier for it.

Jeffrey L.

Yelp
I was swinging by Plum Island ... and old stomping ground of mine .. and decided to grab a bite at the grille Food was very delicious. Atmosphere was very local... jazz guitarist was nice touch .. and the drinks were more than plenty to the tummy!.. Lots of friendly people. I would highly recommend this fun restaurant!

Fiona H.

Yelp
I prefer the restaurant side to the bar area but the food comes out of the same kitchen so I go to which ever side fits my mood. You can't beat the sunset and that's what this place is known for. The bar side is better for that but it does get crowded and loud. The food is very good. Especially the seared scallops but sadly it only comes three per serving. I usually ask for an additional one which they charged nominally for. Every time I go it seems as though someone is ordering a Plum Island Grille board which looks and smells delicious But I have yet to try it.

Tarah C.

Yelp
Ok - I live on the Island so Iwant nothing more than for this place to succeed and be great. If you want a drink at the sunset in the summer - sure - anything else, so so so disappointing. It's a money spot. Why wouldn't you leverage that and make kick ass food and the equal experience? Staff literally was all over the map. We never knew who was waiting on us. Plus one in particular had quite the attitude (and we are pretty mellow easy customers). Messed up my drink (we were literally the first and only ppl in the place the minute they opened) and they gave me the exact opposite of what I ordered. 30+ mins for an app. We never had our mains as we had to leave due needing to get our daughter and it never arrived (after an hour). There were so many weird and random bits, so much rudeness and lack of interest. Again such a waste of an ideal location. Decor is failing as well. Whole place needs a refresh. My husband has always been meh about this place. I begged him to give it another chance because I was tired and didn't want to leave the Island. We are done. Could be so great with some effort. Also - wish you would and change you're menu - it's old.

Tom B.

Yelp
Pros: the food, the staff and the drinks are the best in the area. The Environment is always happy and the chef/owner is a super person. Cons: none at all. Try the fish special, it's always very good.

Biff B.

Yelp
We popped in by chance as we were visiting the island for the weekend . Great spot for sunset and meal . Watching joe cook was entertaining from the bar and the staff was friendly . The owner and locals stick to themselves We would return again for the food and sunset

Be M.

Yelp
Owner (who I presumed to be the owner) was rude and snippy. He took off his mask off to ask where my mask was. We were outside and had been for an hour and a half eating and drinking there. Food was just OK. Clam/seafood chowder came out cold though flavors were good. We sat for literally a half hour waiting for a waitress. This place only does well because there are really no other great choices on the island. Drive to Newburyport, way better options with owners ready to welcome new guests, not just his local friends.

Abigail K.

Yelp
We always have a good experience here! One of our favorite date spots and place to bring people from out of town. (Also very gluten free friendly)

barry g.

Yelp
Lifeblood of plum island- probably a five star/ but it is a little loud and a little cold in some sections of the north bar area- but I would never hesitate to eat there and the wing appetizer is amazing, especially when paired with one of their ice cold beers! Parking can be a pain - so are all the out of area visitors!

Yelp
This place has gone downhill...we used to love this restaurant but had yet to try it since it changed ownership. We arrived for a 6:30 reservation and they put us in the midst of a very crowded part of the restaurant. When my husband asked if we could move to another table, he was promptly told no because those tables were already reserved. We noticed that those tables didn't become occupied until we were almost done with our meal and we actually would've been done much earlier if it didn't take the kitchen 40 minutes to get us our appetizers. The food was on the bland side...my haddock was over cooked to the point of being chewy....it was supposed to come with sautéed spinach but they forgot it and I didn't ask for it because I didn't feel like waiting any longer for subpar food. This used to be one of our favorite places when we are in the area...we won't be coming back again.

Yelp
Cool casual and quaint The Plum Island Grille is a small restaurant located right across the street from the ocean. Definitely a lovely location and very convenient to get to the Plum Island Lighthouse and beaches. It's definitely a casual sort of place, people come in here with all kind of beach attire and nothing fancy is expected. Lots of tables and a small bar is pretty much it. Some cool pictures are on the wall but certainly nothing fancy or unique. The food is pretty much what you would expect, Some seafood and burgers. Nothing exotic or unexpected. But the food that they do have is good. Nothing exception but basic and satisfying beach type of food. The service was very friendly and quick. Our server was a perky guy that was always joking and bouncing around. Nice to see that he obviously enjoys his job. He made sure our glasses were always filled and that our needs were meet. Not a place to go if you want something fancy. A simple but very pleasant beachy type or restaurant Good food at food prices and pleasant employees. Just what I wanted when coming off the beach

Yelp
The waiter who seated us was very nice. However, the restaurant was slammed. The table behind us complained to the hostess. At the time, I was fine with waiting but when the food came out, there were problems. I asked to have the chicken removed from the flatbread and it was not. Another diner requested scallops and didn't get them. Another diner with us had burnt food. The waitress was so busy and stressed that we let it go. I would not recommend this place. The food was poor and not worth the price. I rarely write reviews but I felt this was noteworthy in a bad way.

Yelp
Owned by executive chef. Tried this place for the first time and was not disappointed. Got the plum island punch and had some apps with my husband, Yum. Oysters, shrimp cocktail, tempura shrimp, & seafood chowder all delicious!! We even ordered a second order of tempura shrimp because they were so tasty. Manager/owner kept checking on us and showed he really cared about giving high quality experience. Burger special with grilled shrimp looked amazing from another table next to us. Very nice wine and liquor list , excited to go back for a date night and try more items!

Yelp
Here on a Sunday about 3:30pm looking for something to eat in the area after visiting the beach searching for snowy owls. This place looked inviting and the parking lot indicated it had a decent business. We first entered the dining room side but, even though there were patrons, were told it was closed but the bar portion was open and had the same menu. Its decor was a little less formal but still attractive. They had 2 Rieslings by the glass offered which were both from Washington state. I ordered the Bonny Doone and was happy. They brought out warm bread and there was olive oil and balsamic vinegar on the table with which to prepare a dip. That was enjoyable. I then ordered the angus burger with manchego cheese (other cheeses were available such as cheddar and gouda) and fries. It came with a great bread but , on the other hand, there was just too much bread for the burger. It seemed a little overdone for medium that I requested. All-in-all, the burger and fries were ok, just not outstanding.

Sayeeda R.

Yelp
We had dinner at Plum island restaurant on 10/20/18. We took our friends as they were visiting us at our beach house. We were embarrassed. We got crab cake appetizer one tiny crab cake for $12. Dinner came maximum three ounce of haddock fish which cost $28. Drink we ordered we barely tested any alcohol. We passed the dessert and coffee after this disappointing experience and left hungry after spending over $300. We live on Seabrook beach and had been going to all restaurants in Newburyport and wanted to try Plum Island Grille for a change. But I'll never go there again and will never recommend anyone unless you don't mind spending a lot of money and stay hungry.

James W.

Yelp
This place is hopping most every night. It's an early-night crowd. The place is usually closed for the night before 10pm. The clients tend to be over 40, but that makes the place great for a reasonably sane evening out. The Back Room bar is the place for drinks expertly concocted by Chris or the exceptional Kerry. Best bar service for a single bartender I've seen in a long time. The food is very good. Sure it's higher priced than the usual fare around Plum Island, but for a few extra dollars it's a great meal.

Jan A.

Yelp
I loved the Plum Island Grille, but not anymore! Called a week before the Birthday celebration, and reserved a certain table. When we got there it was taken, not the first time but for a second time. I was pissed, but they gave us free desserts to ease the pain, that didn't help. Party of 5 sat down (5) and we had to wait 15 minutes before she took our drink list. No bread like everyone else in the restaurant, meals come out very late the bread boy doesn't know where any of the dishes belong it's a screw up! Waited 20 minutes for our bill, by that time the restaurant was almost empty. Our friends were not impressed with the restaurant, too bad I won't be coming back here. I gave this restaurant a 3rd. time because the first time when I ordered the Seafood Carbonara there was a piece of steel wool in my meal, maybe from the wire brush they clean the grill with! They have a crew with no clue !!

Mike M.

Yelp
Just come here. The food was awesome and it is perfect for watching the sunset. That's all. Wanna drink, eat and beach? Then this is your spot.

Bethany B.

Yelp
6/28/16 I think they have a different chef. Came Here to celebrate our 2 yr anniversary. Everything we ordered last time Plus a little more. The scallops small plate was not great. The Brussels sprouts were mushy. The cream sauce was nonexistent. The mussels were way too spicy. My husband LOVES spice and was really struggling to eat a few. Nothing tasted the same. 3 stars for the swordfish. Can't go wrong with it. Went to two stars after watching a cook in the back eat a something with his hands and not wash them Unsure how soon we will be back.

Lorene M.

Yelp
Worst meal I have had in a long time. Cute on the outside but dirty inside with dead flies on several windowsills. The tables did not look clean because the varnish is worn off unevenly. The staff was fine but when the food arrived, my husbands "medium" burger was uncooked in the middle. The fries were pure grease. My chowder was odd but edible with veggies not normally found in fish chowder. The prices were high for a grille. Never again.

Lauren P.

Yelp
Ok so I get that we are in a pandemic and things are difficult... however if you are not going to serve fresh hot food like you normally do you should at least advertise that! I just bought two dinners and with the tip it was $70.00 and it was the worst dinner I have had in a long time. If I had known that it was made yesterday and I had to heat it up I would not have ordered haddock!! We live on the island and we're trying to support the restaurant?? Please change your website and let people know that this is what you are serving so we will all come back when you reopen for business as usual.

Meredith K.

Yelp
Last Saturday we decided to take a drive and try a new place - this is where we ended up. What a great place, though you wouldn't know it from the outside. Outside it looks like a dive, and the decor inside is, um, interesting... Tables are close together and we were seated cramped in a corner between two tables, but the food is surprisingly good. Oysters were delicious- we got raw with mignonette and their tempura style with Sweet chili soy glaze. The tempura ones were tastier than I expected. We got the swordfish special- which was excellent and I normally don't like swordfish, but this was flaky and not dried out. We also got the Scallop & Shrimp Carbonara - this dish was good, but the portion was overwhelming- I got 3 meals out of it. Service is friendly and food / wine were brought out quickly. Definitely a place I'd go to again.

Cricket M.

Yelp
This is a great spot for a casual meal and/or drinks while the sun sets. We ate in the bar. Shared small plates....scallops, mussels and flatbread...all delicious! I especially enjoyed the pan seared scallops with Brussels sprouts, pancetta and mushroom cream sauce...wish the scallops were seared on bot sides....but the combination of flavors was fantastic. The bar was open, airy and became prettier as the sun set. The staff was friendly and our server was terrific....a 3rd grade teacher on the off season...she has lucky students!

Kevin M.

Yelp
Maybe it was an off day for this place but the food sucked when we were there. Fish and chips was one of the specials. The fish and fries were over fried and the oil needed to be changed. The fries and fish were almost black the oil was so bad. They also ran out of pasta (pasta of all things, this shoud never happen) and their salad was not very leafy. For what we paid it was not worth it at all. Disappointed.

Sherry M.

Yelp
It's the side trips in life that keep it interesting. This unassuming restaurant serves high end delicious food that was surprisingly fresh. The fresh plum island clams were the best I've ever had to date. The cook...chef...whoever...knows how to create an outstanding braising liquid for the clams. Toasted focaccia bread was created for dipping. Hubby had fish and chips, while I had the haddock. My only complaint was the mashed potatoes were a little cold on my dish. The haddock was perfect!! The sautéed spinach was delectable and the light lemony sauce rounded out the dish. If you ever go to Plum Island Massachusetts, go at least once...and get the clams!!

Denise E.

Yelp
Food was good, but the service stinks. It started with the hostess. Despite having a reservation we were wedged into a table next to a large party whose seats jammed up against ours. I had to ask to be moved to one of the 3 open tables. Had to interrupt the bus person who was hanging out at the hostess desk for bread. My meal was 2 small plates that I asked to be served at the same time. I got them 20 minutes apart and long after the rest of my party was done. My husband asked for a glass of wine with his meal which he got long after his meal was done. Maybe competition will force the PIG to improve.

Tayler S.

Yelp
My girlfriend & I had thought we'd try somewhere a bit far from home for a simple, nice date night. The drive was nice up from Beverly; 1A is a nice way to go. When we got there, the scenery was very nice: marshlands & a pretty sky with only one road disrupting the view. There was luckily no wait, though from her prompting for a reservation I'm sure the place has its moments for it is not large at all. In fact, the total indoor capacity was probably about 45 customers. We were seated at a bit of a cramped table next to the door, obviously not an issue to us or we would have chosen to wait until a better table came along. However, regardless, there were some flies buzzing about that, though they may have not been the restaurants fault, ruined the ambiance a bit. The bus boys were both a bit bedraggled looking & weren't quite always there to fill their duties. & oddly, what water we did get was lukewarm. I'm not sure if that's a conscious effort by the restaurant or not. Our waitress was kind but arrived a bit infrequently. The food was incredible. I had the Caper Chicken entrée & my girlfriend had a salmon special & both were absolutely fantastic. My chicken was moist & flavorful & she said her salmon was one of the best she's had. However, for prices of nearly thirty dollars each, the portions were incredibly small. They didn't even give a filler of some pasta, just a measly amount of mashed potatoes that were decent. Overall, it's not a bad restaurant. If you live close & you have some expendable income it may be a nice place to check out. But it certainly wasn't worth our drive, & for a check over 60 dollars, I definitely wished at least I had my stomach full.

Robin T.

Yelp
I'm not sure what to expect a place by the water with a view? This is not that. It is very small and crowded. Close seating which I'm never a fan. Service was good. Food was ok. Battered fish yuck. Too match batter. Liked the chowder very much.

Maureen H.

Yelp
Quaint with average cocktails and bar food. Wasn't my favourite spot in town but we would try them again. It wasn't busy at lunchtime on a Sunday and that isn't a good sign for me. Our group agreed that they could have better service also.

David L.

Yelp
4 star bar for sunset. 4 star restaurant for a private function (a friend's wedding in my case). 3 star for general dining due to small portions and some mediocre food. Went last night to celebrate my wife's birthday. Lovely table, relaxing setting and good drinks. Unbeatable sunset venue set a great mood. Cheese plate was unnecessarily stingy (and arrived missing 2 of the 3 cheeses), and the ribs were overcooked, dry and generally unappealing. But based on the quality of their salad/garnish and the fresh ingredients at hand the can easily elevate their game to undisputed 4 star across the board.

G B.

Yelp
Plum Island Grille was my favorite restaurant. We'd been celebrating holidays and birthdays here for the last twenty years. Beautiful view, delicious food - it was the restaurant where I wanted to host my rehearsal dinner one day. I recommended it to everyone I spoke to who was visiting MA. But THEN the last two times, the experience has verged on awful. Cold food when it was supposed to be hot, overly dry fish, bread that was still cold on the bottom from being frozen. I am so disappointed to say that what was my favorite place is now somewhere I couldn't even eat the vegetables.

Dorothy D.

Yelp
First...oysters were $3 each which in an out of the way bar joint off season is really, really silly!! So we ordered the seafood chowder and regret we didn't ask beforehand to see it so we could see there was almost no seafood but an entire potato in one bowl. Maybe 3 tiny bay scallops shriveled to 1/4" diameter. That plus a $6 beer..never again!

mark p.

Yelp
Awesome spot. Right on the marsh, and great place to watch the sunset. Whether you're eating or just having a drink, very unique and cool spot. Great food and great views. Would definitely recommend.

Olivia P.

Yelp
Meh. Very expensive for what you get but what do you expect? It's the beach. It's a really nice atmosphere and the servers are great. I wish the menu was better. It is small and a bit boring. I would love to see lobster or clams on the menu - that's what we go to the shore to eat! Most patrons are elderly. Probably due to the $$

Andy R.

Yelp
Unimpressive. The drinks: boring with lower quality alcohol The service: bland- not very attentive or friendly... although I wouldn't say non-attentive or unfriendly just not attentive or friendly in the way I expected from the location and pricing. The food: Small portions on big plates or small items enlarged in cheap ways. I ordered the Scallops. It was 4 scallops on a giant plate. I ordered the shrimp. They were fairly small, poorly deveined and the breading on them was twice as thick as they were. The view: I asked for outdoor seating and was sent to a room that looked more like an enclosed porch with windows on one side overlooking a field. It was a beautiful day and the windows weren't even open. What a waste! It seems like the sort of place that wealthy single middle-aged locals go to in order to feel like they are hanging out in a hip beach bar only there's no beach in sight. It does seem like a slightly classy beach-y hangout though.

Sarah A.

Yelp
Boy am I glad my parents live down the street from THIS place. I remember when they first went there years ago and couldn't wait to take my sister and I the next time we were home. I can see why they were raving. If you are all about fish, this is the place for you. All types of fish depending on that day's catch, with your choice of various sauces, all of which are tasty and interesting. Service is attentive and friendly. Pretty good view of the marshes across the street for those visiting New England. I have to disagree with those reviewers who say it's loud and only good if you're a tourist, since I'm not and I love it! Then again, I don't go there on Saturday nights in the middle of the summer. Good atmosphere, good drinks, good food for all seasons.

Jeff M.

Yelp
If I was a tourist I'd probably love this place. However I am from the North Shore and know there are a ton of great seafood places all around me. The broth in the Drunken Clams was very salty. I passed on dipping my bread into it. The Caprice Salad came chopped; not what I expected but still good. The pan fried salmon with sun dried tomato was good. Grilled scallops were also good. The Kahlua and chocolate bread pudding was also good. The house saffron rice pilaf was nothing special at all, but it was still good. I mean this place is solid. Maybe a bit boring. They do serve strong drinks. I'll go back only if I am on Newport beach or the reservation.

Devin R.

Yelp
Last weekend we were looking for a place to grab lunch before heading over to the Newburyport Music Festival...decided to head out to Plum Island for a while. We knew there were two potential options in Mad Martha's and the Plum Island Grille. After surveying Mad Martha's and not seeing anywhere to park, we headed back to the Grille. This was my first time out to Plum Island in many years, and I had never been to the Grille before. I was a bit taken aback by the prices on the lunch menu...they seemed a bit all over the board. Burger for $15...ok. Fish and Chips for $16...check. Chicken Caesar Salad for $19...what??? That must be some pretty good romaine! After standing awkwardly outside the door looking at this menu for about 5 minutes (I was about to walk on that salad price just on principle), we finally decided to go into the bar area (door on the right). Pretty cool inside...had a beach bar kind of feel to it. The place was pretty full with beach goers, but we were able to fortunately find a couple seats together at the bar. The view was back out towards the inland, which amounted to an open field looking towards the small airport. Nice view of the small planes flying in and out. The one thing I was not a fan of was that there were quite a few flies buzzing around...that always seems to be the case in these beach restaurant locales for some reason. I was pleasantly surprised to find Smuttynose IPA on tap here, so I ordered one of those. For a small place, they had a nice, small selection of taps. The wife got some blueberry lemonade concoction, which received a positive rating. Then that menu was placed back in front of us again and the wheels starting turning trying to figure out what I was going to order. The wife quickly decided on the Fish and Chips I was still reeling from the salad price, but after some thought, I went for the Moules Frites...PEI mussels and fries. I have to say, I remained skeptical of this whole experience until the food arrived...all of the concerns I did have were washed away when I started eating. These mussels were some of the best I've had...great broth. The fries were maybe an odd complement to the mussels, but those were fantastic as well. The aioli they served with them was a nice touch for something different. I also tried a bit of the Fish and Chips and thought that was also prepared very well. So, although a bit apprehensive going in, I would definitely head back to the Plum Island Grille. It was definitely worth the short extra drive out from Newburyport to try this place. Please, just get a reasonably priced salad on the menu!

Yelp
First time customer review: Service: 4/5 Food: 3.5/5 Atmosphere: 4.5/5 Price/Value: 2.5/5 Great indoor dining with outdoor drinking spot. Came at end of August and they had a heat lamp outside which was nice. Waitress was friendly and gave solid suggestions. We ordered a bottle of Pinot Grigio, the Caprese Salad/Shrimp cocktail and had the Filet Mignon for our entree. Filet was undercooked (asked for medium, got rare-medium rare) but still very tasty. Food was a bit overpriced. We paid $116 not including tip. I would definitely go again but would prefer other options for that price. Would make it more of an appetizer/drink choice.
