Pnyx Monument

The Pnyx was the official meeting place of the Athenian democratic assembly that was first held in the Agora at the foot of the Acropolis, and which was moved to this hill west of the Acropolis in the early 5th century it was the time when Athenians conceived the idea of Democracy and started practicing it anyone could speak on the steps about anything as long as they were athenian. Excellent views across the city and to the sea.

Place of speeches of philosophers and politicians such as Pericles in ancient Athens with awesome Also the assembly of the Athenians or otherwise the church of the Municipality. Freedom of speech was protected by the God Zeus. Parts of the fortifications of Athens have been saved. The view is shocking. It is combined with the prison of Socrates and the Observatory

The momentum itself is nothing special, however, from the hill where the momentum is located you can have an overall view of the Acropolis and Lycabettus hill. Definitely recommend to visit before sunset time if you would like to experience watching the golden colored the Acropolis from different angle than the popular Filopappos hill.

One of our favorite Athens evening walks. The birthplace of democracy! Nice open area after a walk through a forest. Outstanding views of the Acropolis, Lykavittus hill, and the center of Athens. Usually a nice breeze in the evening. Great picnic spot. There is a drinking water fountain nearby. Very nice energy in this area. Free.

One of the most outstanding places in Athens. The place where democracy was born, where famous orators spoke: Demosthenes, Pericles, Cleon, and others. You feel like part of history and enjoy the most beautiful views. Entry is free and you absolutely must see it.

Some interesting history, but what's left is a little bit underwhelming. Some of the marked locations are hard to imagine as ancient structures - for example there is a sundial that is now nothing more than an unrecognisably eroded rock. Nice views of the Acropolis, as with most places in the park, let alone the whole of Athens.

An amazing spot of great archeological interest, combined with the unobstructed views of Acropolis and Eastern Athens ! Way less touristy, giving you the space and time you need to breath in the uniqueness of your surroundings. Great walk too, either alone or with your four legged companion ! 🐾 Make sure you wear appropriate shoes as it can be slippery! Also quite few different routes that will take you to completely different neighbourhoods of Athens ! Make sure you make it to the top of the hill ! It’s higher than the Acropolis, with 360 views of Athens, stretching up to sea level ! Enjoy!
