If you ever find yourself somewhere between Duncan and Chemainus wondering whether to take that little detour off Hwy 19… do it. Do it for Zurona, the culinary powerhouse who just redefined what “crushing it” means.
First off, the Zurona Burrito. This wasn’t just a burrito — this was a structural masterpiece packed with meat, all the sauces, every fixin’, and somehow still held together like it had spiritual integrity. She didn’t just make it; she crushed it. NASA engineers could take notes.
Meanwhile, my fiancée Vanessa — who is GF/DF and therefore often at the mercy of the culinary universe — was treated like absolute royalty. Zurona turned out Carnita tacos that were so dialed-in they might actually deserve their own holiday. Pickled onions singing. Tender pork dancing. Salsa that knew exactly what it was doing. And just when we thought she couldn’t possibly go any further…
She rolled out homemade taco chips and a chipotle dip with a whisper of heat and a wink of maple. Honestly? If enlightenment had a flavour profile, this would be it.
In short: Zurona cooks with joy, generosity, and a touch of wizardry. If you love incredible food made by someone who clearly pours her heart into every plate, this spot is absolutely worth the detour — and then some.
Five stars. Ten if they’d let me. 🌮✨
