We had a great tour. Our tour guide, Cindy, was funny, passionate, and knowledgeable and answered all of our questions with verve. She introduced us to their ports, which are 100% Portuguese owned by the same family for four generations, and takes pride that every ingredient and all the effort to make the product is from Portugal. They're made in the Douro Valley, which we're visiting on Saturday.
And she talked us through the process of making port and the varieties, white, ruby (including vintage and late bottle vintage), and tawny (including the high end single-harvest bottling, colheita).
We particularly loved the 1996 Colheita (which we sampled as part of the Golden Years Poças Port tour), and found it complex and nutty.
Really happy we did this!
