Great budget option in Manhattan with excellent location. We had a double room with bunk beds and shared bathroom/toilet. Overall it was good - the hotel was clean and the room was well organized. The shared bathrooms were fairly clean and functional, though slightly insufficient in number and often occupied. The location was top notch in Manhattan, close to subway stations. There’s also a nice rooftop area to enjoy. The best part is definitely the price - it was one of the cheapest hotels available at the time of booking. Good value for money in NYC.

We enjoyed our stay at Pod 51. All staff were helpful and friendly. The hotel was very clean, comfortable, and safe. The location was convenient to train, bus and subway stations. The rooftop patio is a great place to relax especially for sunset. There is also a lovely small pocket park across the street from the hotel that is a sanctuary from the hustle and bustle of the city. Beds were very comfortable. The hotel cafe has good coffee and pasties. A great affordable way to stay in NYC.

i stayed here for 6 days, in a private room shared bathroom and i had a great experience. i arrived a little early to check in which was no issue, and i was settled into my pod by noon. the pod was well equipped and i got a corner pod so it was well lit too. the cleaning service was wonderful and perfectly timed in my opinion, since i like to sleep in, i never felt like i had to rush to leave in order to get my room cleaned. the area felt very safe, there were people in and out at all times of the day. the rooftop was a beautiful perk as well. i was also able to check out late which was very appreciated. they only negative in my opinion was the shared bathrooms. they were clean for the most part, but sometime people would spill water after showering and make the floor slippery. there were also a few times where the bathrooms were being used a lot, like around the morning and at night, so you’d have to wait around, but overall, i enjoyed my stay and would stay again.

The Pod 51 Hotel is an affordable place that's really close to almost everything. It's just a few minutes' walk to the UN and midtown. My single Pod was just perfect as a solo traveller. My beddings & towels were super clean. The shared bathrooms were also kept clean. Just carry shower shoes / sandals. I like that they let me check in early (9am) because my room was available. On departure day, they also kept my bags at no extra cost as I had a late flight. How kind!

Google
Clean and quiet - what more could you want? Shoebox sized room, but that’s par for the course in NYC. My room had a private bathroom - I traveled alone, not sure I would feel comfortable staying in the room with anyone except a romantic partner because of the frosted glass and sheer shower curtain. I appreciated the toiletries provided! I enjoyed the location being outside the main hustle and bustle. Would absolutely stay again!

Google
For the Manhattan location, this is a great choice for younger travelers looking for a budget option. The lobby and communal spaces were very nicely appointed. We stayed in a bunk bed pod with shared bathrooms. The room was nice and clean with even a sink and mirror inside the room. The bunk bed felt a little flimsy sometimes with the removable ladder and sidebar, but was otherwise good. It was cramped and small but again if you chose a Manhattan hotel you're spending most of it outside in the City! The communal bathrooms did leave a little more to be desired. There were 4 bathrooms on our floor and they sometimes didn't feel the cleanest. As other reviews mentioned, the soundproofing by the window isn't very good so it is extra loud sometimes, but we didn't mind it too much.

I loved this place!  The location, bedding, modern, but small rooms, staff, fast elevators, value were all great!  I am an Airbnb Superhost and I highly recommend staying here on the POD on 51st.  There are little eateries including a little pizza bar with great salads, and a breakfast cafe right around the corner.  The subway is close as well.  For the money, it is a good choice and I will come again!

Google
Excellent budget hostel! Clean, comfortable with available private AC rooms with private bathroom and shower. Also towels, shampoo, TV, safe; would be nice to have a small fridge. ||Best it the price as NYC is expensive in general.||Great location in midtown eastside.

Yelp
This is a perfect spot for a solo traveler. It's quaint, incredibly clean and very well kept. Conveniently accessible restaurants, stores and bars all within walking distance. The staff couldn't be friendlier! Worth the money and then some. In your room you get a comfy bed, a TV, a safe for your valuables and a sink. The shower/toilet is on a shared floor but there's 4 per floor. Inside is a very clean bathroom, which is well maintained and even a rainfall shower! This will be my new hotel I'll be staying at every time I'm in NYC.

Yelp
When you come to a hotel you at least expect to lay back watch some good movies and relax . Nothing here at all just basic channels for over 250.00 a night . Never again , it's the worst . Stay away

Yelp

Yelp
I had a pretty good previous experience at the Pod Times Square (same company), so decided to stay here for a longer stay for work. I'm in the middle of the stay, and it has been a positive experience. First, the prices are really affordable for NYC. They can vary depending on the time of year, but in general you are not going to find something this affordable for a private room in Manhattan, especially since the demise of AirBnB. I don't know if I'd say it was spotless, but cleanliness seems above-average for a low-to-moderate priced hotel. The laundered towels and bedding were super crisp and white. They've been servicing my room daily, which honestly was a bit unexpected for me at this price point. Noise levels have been fine. I'm on the 11th floor, and of course you hear some traffic noise (NYC loves to honk their horns!). But the insulation seems to be about average, and I haven't had any problems with parties. Because the rooms near my own are similarly small single beds, there are a number of solo travelers -- so not a ton of parties, etc. The bed in my room is just a modest twin, but the mattress is comfortable. I have my own thermostat and the heating/cooling has worked well. The location is pretty good. It is about 5 minutes to the subway (a few blocks), and there are a *ton* of good restaurants nearby. I would say the food density is above-average, even for Manhattan. Being over on the east side of the island is new for me -- it is a bit harder to get around than, say Times Square, but it really isn't a problem. All-in-all, this is a good option for budget travelers who just want a comfortable place to rest while they spend their time out in the city.

Yelp
The room was filthy. It was covered in mold, dust, and grime. I booked a Double Pod (Full) room for a weeklong stay for work and was just looking for a clean budget option to sleep at night. I wasn't expecting much, but for $2000 for the week, the room was gross, and honestly a health hazard. The air conditioner was covered in layers of dust, the remote was covered in buildup and grime, and the bathroom reeked of sewage. We opened the windows on the first night thinking that the shower just needed to air out, but it continued to smell like sewage. We reported this to front desk staff on Saturday night and were assured that "engineering" would come look at it "soon". We gave them some time (several days), but it finally got to a point where we were waking up sneezing, with sore throats, and itchy eyes so we checked with the front desk again. I spoke with Benny, who was very helpful and gave us two options of new rooms to switch into. While these rooms were slightly better, both still had mold in the tile of the showers and in the AC units. There's budget, and then there's unhygienic. I asked for a refund so that we could switch to another hotel. They agreed to refund the remaining days and 1 night, but refused to refund beyond that (4 days) without "proof" that we had made them aware of our concerns earlier. They insisted that since there was no report in their system that we had talked to someone Saturday, they couldn't confirm we had said something. Because we gave them the benefit of the doubt, we couldn't get a refund. The manager, Alberto, cancelled the last half of the stay and is "investigating" now, but the refund is far below what it costs to book another hotel now on such a short notice. Overall, we had to spend more just to switch hotels in the middle of a work day and get sick from a moldy room. Multiple of their rooms are literally health hazards with mold INSIDE the AC's, tiling, and walls. Stay yourself the trouble and book anywhere else!!!

Yelp
This hotel is ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING- NOT CLEAN. There was hair & stains all over my bed from whoever was in the room before me. I took photos of over 12 pieces of hair strands throughout the bedding (on top and inside the sheets) to send to Expedia. The hotel refused to do anything, the female manager is rude and doesn't believe there is any problem with this. If you like to sleep in dirty hotel rooms, with bugs and stains, and hair in your bed from other people- then stay here. This place should go out of business, that's not okay!

Yelp
This hotel has the worst customer service in the whole city. I've stayed here in the past and the rooms are so insanely small and overpriced and the manager is a complete jerk with no customer service experience at all. STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS!!

Yelp
For a shorter stay/visit to NYC - yes it was perfect , especially for Midtown East. No coffee maker or refrigerator in room - but on the lobby floor there is a coffee & pastry kiosk, lounge area and patio. Also a roof top seating area in the 14th floor. The staff was welcoming and professional. Thank you

Yelp
We really enjoyed our stay at Pod51 just before Christmas. We came into town to see a Broadway show. It was a quick walk through to the theater and we easily made it by Saks on 5th Ave and the Rockefeller Center on the way that made it great walking over. Great location with quick grab foods, a bar downstairs and right by a train station. We easily accessed two trains from the Pod. essa bagel on the corner was such a convenient in the early AM to snag a breakfast to take back to bed. I had read they have long lines with hour wait times but I didn't experience that either AM before 7:30-8:00. Pizza just around the corner in the opposite direction. Cute rooftop hang out area! The was clean minus a few crumbs and random items under the bed but I move mattresses when entering rooms. Sheets were clean and pillows were fluffy! I walked in early for check in expecting to be turned away until check in time a couple hours later, but to my surprise we were able to check in right away. Desk staff were always helpful. They had a bellhop to help with bags if necessary. Shower is TINY! I'm used to camper showers and this felt smaller. Overall the room and location served its purpose and we enjoyed it 100% !! Would recommend

Yelp
I really enjoyed our stay at the Pod! I booked it the day before our trip because we originally were going to stay at a hostel, but I chickened out, and I'm so glad they had availability! We stayed in a bunk bed room with a shared bathroom. It was $200 for the Saturday night and $90 each for Sunday and Monday. That $90 is extremely reasonable in the city! The room was definitely small and a private bath is always more ideal, but I couldn't complain. Everything was clean. This hotel is in a fantastic location. It's pretty central to two subway stops, and it's a few blocks away from Central Park/5th Ave/Rockefeller/St. Patrick's. There are lots of yummy looking restaurants and fun bars on the street, though we didn't go in. It's two blocks away from La Vera Pizza which was awesome because I could easily secure my late night slice. It is right next to Ess-a-bagel, but the lines were always out the door when we scoped it out. We tried another bagel place near but the line was too slow. Our bagel place of choice on this trip was Liberty Bagel up by Central Park. It was a little noisy, I think the heater or boiler makes some noise at night, and our AC didn't work, which wasn't a big deal because it was winter. You could hear people in the hallways but they were usually quiet. There is a rooftop that we never checked out, a little hang out space downstairs, and an outdoor space that we also didn't check out. The interior is modern and decorated with fun art. I think this is a good place to stay for any young or budget travelers, but since they also have a room the size of a studio, it could be fun to check out for any type trip!

Yelp
Oh Dear lord... Okay let us start with the positives the hotel is super cute, and the bar downstairs is everything. Great prices, food is good. The staff was amazing. This might be my fault but I was unaware this weekend was the door slamming Olympics. It was insane.. So do not plan on getting any sleep. It is a fun hotel so again this could be my mistake BUT it seems like all the commotion was a lot. About every ten minutes a door was slamming somewhere, everyone in the hallways were insanely loud. For a cheap price and prime location it was fine but unlock the Pod in time square do not plan on any sleep.

Yelp
I have stayed at pod 51 for 19 days.. The staff-sweet and helpful depending on who is there if that's in the lobby, the cafe or at the front desk. The lobby- cute and open. I loved that there was a long table to study and work at with a charger in the middle down the whole table. The lobby is spacious with a coffee bar that is open till 1pm. They also have a garden with a patio. Hotel room-very small but that's okay I understand it's New York. They only give you 2 sheets for your bed. I didn't have a blanket that's any thicker. I didn't love that. If the ac is not on then it's 75 in the room. So you're hot or freezing- no In between. I was very frustrated that there are 2 bathrooms for the entire floor. They provide shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. There are no towels to dry your hands in the bathroom.(so just remember to bring your towel-just annoying) I didn't love that I had to share the bathroom with the whole floor bc everyone would leave the bathroom like it's there own(leaving towels, not flushing, making a mess in the shower) it's not the staffs fault bc they can only go in there so many times to clean it. Hotel WiFi works great just remember the password bc your laptop will keep asking for it. Hotel room card-I had to come down and have them reset it 10 times. The first couple times I thought it was bc I held it with my phone in my hand But after making conscious effort to not have it touch my phone I knew it wasn't me. That really annoyed me and the staff didn't know why it was doing that either. Blamed me multiple times which I did not appreciate. The cleaning staff do not take in consideration that some people want to sleep in banging the vacuum on the door drove me crazy. I came in at 6 pm for the day after leaving at 7:30 am and whoever was cleaning was in there. I waited in the lobby for half an hour before going up again to discover she was still on there. So I think she just started when I went up the first time. This hotel is very very noisy even at 2 or 3 in the morning with people coming home, shouting and slamming doors. The elevator takes a year and a half to arrive so plan at least 5 min to stand waiting for the elevator if you're an on time person The location is perfect. It is next to a train station. The rooftop deck is absolutely stunning view! All in all, if you don't plan on spending much time in your hotel. This hotel will work. I wouldn't suggest staying here as long as I did.

Yelp
Affordable for NYC but would never come back. There was a used bandaid folded in my towels, my shower never fully turned off no so there was a constantly splashing all night, in the middle of the night my AC/heater would just bang so loudly, and I have bed bug bites all over my waist and shoulder.

Sandra H.

Yelp
Very affordable and clean. Good location within blocks of 5th Ave and subway. Lots of restaurants nearby. Lobby cafe. We heard lots of doors slam in the night and it didn't bother us once we knew it was due to rooms without bathrooms.

robin g.

Yelp
The reservation app did NOT mention the shared bathroom, my room is so small I couldn't fit another person in it if was as proficient in yoga as I once was, and the light glitches. This place sucks. But it will do for 6 hours of sleep. Best I can say about it.

Yelp
Booked a night NYC for holidays. The place had a cool ambience. Check in was quick and the staff were very friendly and fast with the check in and check out process!!! The room was everything we expected! Big enough for two people and had optimal storage space located under the bed which was super helpful with all the belongings and such! Room was pretty clean plus our private bathroom!!! Only downside to the stay was how noisy the floor we stayed on was, the room didn't really have much sound proof to it, would wake up through the night just hearing people in halls and such. And every time we would be in traveling through the hallways on our floor it smelled like body odor? But besides that it was a perfect little room for 2!!! Would recommend check it out, plus it's in a good location in the east of midtown! Thanks for your business!!

Yelp
I'm really torn on this one- there are several things I enjoyed about my stay at Pod 51 but the thin walls made the sleeping side of things rough!! It was incredible how loud multiple guests were at 6am bustling around to grab one of the shower rooms and throughout the hallways. My thoughts wouldn't be so cloudy and "Nancy" if the walls weren't so thin. Enough about my rough night of sleep. Here are the pros to choosing Pod51 for your stay in NYC: - rooftop patio with beautiful views, tables and Adirondack chairs -nearly as budget friendly as you can get for this location (a few blocks from the hustle and bustle of Broadway, Times Square, etc.) I chose it based on proximity to the many Work office and the Javitz convention center -clean bathrooms and bedrooms (note that bathrooms are shared) - the bedroom reminded me of the tiniest room I've ever had- in Tokyo (sweet memories and truly it's all you need) - mini cafe/bar in the lobby that sells coffee, wine and beer (super casual window/nothing more) -USA Today newspapers available at the front desk -UrbanSpace Food Hall is just up the street - two blocks

Yelp
You get what you pay for. A friend and I had to book last minute hotels in NY, and this was the best option for the price. Clean rooms, with sheets changed daily and private sinks. The bed takes up most of the room. Main problem is that you have shared bathrooms, but fortunately your rooms aren't connected to anyone else's. Would recommend if on a budget. If you aren't, you'll probably hate this.

Yelp
I M NOT RECOMMENDED THIS HOTEL if u have rest at night and in the morning... Party Hotel all the time so loud, The staff speaks very loudly on the floors, it is not possible to rest, there is always noise... Starting at 6 am you will forget what sleep is.... Always, always very noisy, impossible to sleep and rest... I lived in 4 different rooms on different floors and everywhere the same... I m so sad i spend a lot $ on this hotel... I m not recommended.....

Yelp
Pod offers the best experience for NYC stays I've ever had. They know what you need and give it to you at affordable rates. If you need a lot of space and total privacy it may not be your speed, but reduced floor space and a communal bathroom is not a bad trade when you're bound to be spending most of your time out and about. Most likely to appeal cash strapped Y and Z Gens, Pod combines all the advantages of a hostel while maintaining the most essential amenities. The only criticism I can find is lack of room climate control.

Yelp
We booked Pod 51 through a Groupon in order to save where we can on our NYC trip. We ended up opting for the bunk beds (two of us) and split the cost 50/50 so we both paid $150 for 3 nights in the city. For this unbeatable price, we were prepared to deal with a lot. Part of me wants to say you get what you pay for, but generally it was not a bad hotel. The rooms are small as advertised, but our room had enough space to walk around and have our suitcases out, so a little bigger than I expected. The check in process was easy and the lobby was very cool. The elevators are also small and slightly shaky. We had a sink in the room and tissues and for some reason toilet paper. The shared bathrooms were around the corner from us and there were 4. We never ran into a situation where we couldn't use the bathroom and they were always stocked. It also helps that there are 4 lights in each room that correspond with bathroom occupancy. If the bathroom is in use, it has a red light on. However, each bathroom also shows vacant or not on the respective door. The bunk beds were twin sized and the mattresses were hard as rocks. The sheets were rough and the comforter was just a blanket sandwiched between two sheets. There were extra pillows though (both soft and hard). There was even a small closet with a few hangers and a little desk with a chair. We both had tiny TVs in our bunks which was fun! I wouldn't recommend this hotel for families, as the rooms are small for more than 2 people and the walls are paper thin meaning you can hear a lot of ... adult activities. One night someone seemed to be chainsmoking on our non smoking hall and that was very frustrating. I think we were most nervous about the bathroom situation and that ended up being great. I only used 3 of the 4 bathrooms but one was extra large. We wore shower shoes and the showers were clean and pretty nice. The shower heads were good quality with a steady water pressure and good temperatures. The shampoo, conditioner, and soap are all provided and stay in the showers on the wall. I'd say the only down side with the bathrooms was trying to remember to bring in a hand towel with me when I was using the restroom. Checkout was easy as pie. The location was good too and felt safe while still being close to the action. Overall, If you're looking for a cheap, clean place to stay, this is it. Just don't expect it to be like sleeping on a cloud!

Yelp
The room is very small but I figured it would be as I've stayed at the other locations. So far this has been the WORST Pod location I've stayed at. I highly suggest you stay at the Pod by port authority. That one is AWESOME. The bathroom is insanely small for men. I'm 6'4 and could not fit in the shower. The shower also has a lamp in it in which gets very hot. I hit into it while showering and burned my back. Kind of a stupid place to put a light, especially one that gets hot. If you are tall or bulky you probably will have a tough time in the bathroom here. But what I will say is that the bathroom is renovated and looks nice and clean. My room smells musky/like cigarettes, I hope I do not get charged for that as they have a fee for smoking and I do not smoke.

Martin D.

Yelp
This a basic hotel/pod met my needs and budget for the most part but then this happened... dark brown water from the faucet. I couldn't even wash my face or brush my teeth. When I brought it up to front desk he said it's the city water which is BS. I've been at several hotels this week this has not been an issue to I got to pod51

Yelp
Sunday drinks on a rooftop in a .... what reminded me of Portuguese/Spanish remnant setting. The atmosphere is great. Views in three directions with the world trade tower in sight. The decor is Mexican influenced. The drinks were pretty good. Their cocktails were tasty, we tried the rose infused daiquiri. To get up to the bar, take the elevator to the 17th floor. There is seating inside and out. I heard it's almost impossible to get seating during warm summer nights. It was a bit chilly on Sunday so the crowd was limited. I would definitely return.

Yelp
Me and my boyfriend stayed here for two nights unfortunately it was the worst experience I've had. The bad was uncomfortable the room by itself was literally a box we couldn't move.you can't take a poop without putting your foot inside the shower. there's no flush handle with your finger you flush it with your foot.. there's a sink right in front of the bed it's just real prison style. I wouldn't give this one star but I felt like I had to give it something. The staff was extremely rude no one wanted to help. there's no microwave. There's a safe inside the small box called the bedroom it may make some people feel safe but it made me feel the opposite why do I need to put my stuff in a safe ?does your staff steal? I wouldn't recommend this spot to anyone it was just a horrible experience

Yelp
Our stay was great until the last minute. As we were checking out, the concierge asked us if we had a ride to the airport. I told him we were just taking a taxi. (They have a flat rate to JFK for $52.) He told me, "Oh but you'll have to pay toll and tip so our car service will be about the same price!" Sounds great. (Yep, I guess I'm naive.) We get close to the airport and the driver asks me to pay. It was $105 plus tip. Ummm what. I don't mind paying for a service but this was totally dishonest and I hate that we ended our experience on a bad note. The hotel was clean and in a good location. Would've left a much better review but the dishonest concierge is not okay.

Yelp
Booked this place through Expedia for $152 a night after taxes. The hotel was charging $185 a night before taxes. I booked the type of room that has the bathroom inside. I think it's called a double pod. We came into the city for my husband's birthday and this room was perfect for what we needed. Yes, it's small, but I expected that and we didn't mind it at all. We had a small sink area, bathroom, and shower. The A.C. worked fine and the bed was really comfortable. It was clean and I felt totally safe and comfortable here. The roof is a great place to hang out with colorful Adirondack chairs and couches. Great view of the city and surrounding buildings. When we went up there were 2 friendly guys hanging out with a six pack. Great idea! The downstairs lobby area is bright and colorful and they have a cafe but we didn't eat there. They had a nice outside area off the lobby that looked like a great place to order some food and drinks and chill. The front desk people were nice and I didn't experience anything negative here. My husband really liked this hotel as well. There's a Yelp check in offer if you book directly through the hotel. 10% off the rate.

Yelp
For last minute findings, this place is an A+. It is more like a Pod, but it's very spacious. I know there are different types of rooms you can get, like bunk beds or just one bed in general. I'm not sure what other options they have. The walls apparently are thin. They don't have an iron/board in the room but you can have it sent up to you. I do like the set up, it's cute and small. The shower head is more like a fountain spout and the shower is see-through, but you can hide yourself if you slide the door over the window. But then you'll have the toilet showing. You can't hide both of them at once. They do have a window you can open in the bathroom which I like. The lighting is pretty bright and I like that as well. Another great thing I like about this hotel is they have separate bathrooms and showers on each floor. You just need your key to open it. So, if the bathroom is being used in your room, you can certainly use the shower/bathroom that's located within the hallways. It was clean but very hot in there because the doors are constantly locked. It didn't seem like much ventilation goes through there. Either way - I think that was a great move in putting a couple bathrooms on each floor! The coolest thing about this hotel is that they have a rooftop you can hang on until 10 PM. Gives you a pretty view of the city. It's so nice up there! I give this hotel the best rating. I have no complaints!

Yelp
This place is the cheapest hotel you will probably get in the area. It has a hostel vibe. It's tiny and looks like a prison. This place is fine if you're looking for a cheap stay and don't care about luxury. I stayed one night and had to check out. My room had a loud ac window that barely cooled down the room. The staff is amazing. Very friendly and accommodating.

Yelp
Clean, quiet, affordable rooms. All the basics, rooftop deck is great for quiet fresh air.Coffee and danishes are available in the lobby. Convienence store and restraunts close by. 15 minute walk to times square.

I couldnt cancel reservation because it was mid of night. I contacted for refund through agoda. And hotel refuses because i didnt mention it before check in. How could i find cockroach if i didnt check in.?

Yelp
If you're looking for a place to stay for any reason you're in NYC, I'd suggest staying at one of the POD locations in the city. The price is reasonable for a space that has what you need...a bed and a place to wash your body that's also clean. The room was about the size of dorm room but had a full size bed, nightstands, a closet space and storage space under the bed. The floor I stayed on had dim lit hallways that gave this international spy movie feel. It was quite, nicely decorated in a modern but classic at the same time style. The lobby had a bar that had a hand full of adult arcade games and good looking bar food. They had no parking garage to the hotel so I parked in one that was across the street from the hotel for a decent price. There's someone at the front at all times and they have a nice staff that's very helpful. Don't let the price fool you, because I was too a bit apprehensive because of how cheap a nights stay was and what I thought was wrong. The location it self was great because I could walk anywhere with no problem. If you're looking for a no frills place to stay this might be a good pick for you.

Yelp
All other hotels in NYC were going for crazy prices so to be a good corporate citizen i gave this place a try. You must book a private bathroom or you won't have one, thank you to other reviewers for that advice. The room was small and clean and no frills which was fine for one night. I had paid with hotels.com which is supposed to include everything but they insisted on me paying an additional $10 resort fee which although nominal, is BS because this is definitely not a resort and there are no amenities. If you're on a budget, go for it, but know what you're getting.

Yelp
I had a great stay here this past weekend. When I visit New York I just need a bed and the bare necessities, so this place is perfect. I stayed in a bunk bed room with my brother and it worked out really well for us. Basically, this place is like a dorm at a college. The room had the two beds, a small desk, a place to hang your clothes, and a small sink area. I liked that there was a TV at the end of each bed, plus a little built in in the wall next to the bed with outlets for easy phone charging. There were four shared bathrooms on our floor and there was never an issue with all of them being taken. The shower was actually pretty nice, with a big showerhead directly above. Bring flip flops or something to wear into the shower, though, since they're shared. Another note: the bathrooms have soap and a sink for hand washing, but no towels, so bring one with you when you go or just wash your hands back in your room. The staff was friendly and we were able to check in early. There's a rooftop seating area and a cafe/garden, but we were so busy that we didn't check either of them out. There's also a restaurant with burgers and a bar attached to the hotel that looked nice. The hotel is also easily accessible by the E and M trains with the 53rd/Lexington station just about a block away, especially nice if you fly in from JFK. This was a great affordable hotel and I will definitely return to it or one of the other Pods on my next trip to the city.

Yelp
Nice, but noisy. Rates and location are great, staff personable, rooms comfortable if Spartan, but the average clientele seems to be millennials or young adults whose priority is to party into the wee hours, going in and out of their rooms, with no regard for fellow clients. At a recent stay there, guests from three rooms on my floor conjoined for an all-night party, including with a dog, and left piles of pizza boxes and wine cooler cans outside their rooms at the end of the night.

Yelp
Bed bugs in my room. I was bitten to death, all Over my legs and arm. I had never experienced bedbugs before. Though they changed my room I was not given an apology of any other compensation. The woman at the desk asked if I had allergies. Apparently i do, to bedbugs.

Yelp
This is a no frills hotel but reasonably priced and clean. Housekeeping did a great job. I would stay here again.

Yelp
Planning to just stay for a couple days and not in your room stay here! Gives me what its needed in short period of time. The customer service is great and they have accommodations for later and earlier flights. They can hold your luggage as well. Housekeeping is very nice as well and very quick to bring anything you need. I would say it is a bit pricey but its worth it. This place is right next to a bar and grill where you can play mega UNO, sorry, Meme's etc.

Yelp
Ugh. So we never got to stay there because they never sent us a confirmation email so we were unsure if our reservation was received or not. We called but they never answered their phone either so we decided to go ahead and stay somewhere else. (Of course the other hotel sent us a confirmation email RIGHT AWAY like a normal hotel/business) These guys had an audacity and finally sent us a confirmation email ON THE NIGHT OF ARRIVAL lol but dude by that time we had already checked in at the other hotel! So of course we didn't go and stay at Pod 51. These guys still charged us for a "no show" later on what a douche!! I won't recommend this place at all. What a shady place.

Yelp
I am very concerned about this hotel. I am needing to cancel and NO ONE ANSWERS THE PHONE. EVER. Try it and you will see (844) 763.7666. I made a reservation online & am cancelling in advance of the 48 hour requirement. The hotel does not reply to email or answer their phone. There aren't additional numbers listed. Something is seriously wrong. Their website says that they are open 24/7. Why does no one answer at any time of day!?! Either the call drops immediately or rolls to a vmail which says "The wireless customer you are calling is not available." Pod 51 Hotel - Just cancel my reservation and we will call it a day. Not interested in staying there. Period. Ms. Shanna Soases, manager, confirm in writing today that this has been done. Thus far, I have emailed Ssoares@thepodhotel.com, social@thepodhotel.com, info@podhotel51.com, reservations@podhotel51.com. Thank you.

Yelp
This place is amazing! It really is geared for the millennial/gen y or folks who want simplicity. The rooms are clean and simple, think IKEA style, but you cannot beat the price for the location. Also, it's worth noting what the hotel lacks in "luxury", they make up with in great common spaces from rooftop to beer garden to a bar with old school games. Surrounding the hotel are great businesses do you don't have to venture far. Karaoke on the corner, delicious Thai with great service next door and a little waterfall green space down the street. Need a convenient, no frills, clean place to rest your head, or a place for a group to travel together, Pod 51 is your place!

Yelp
Place is very decent for the price. $99 via hotel.com. I was solo but if a couple or sisters, mon/daughter - spring for the $20 extra for your own bathroom. I had no issues but was only there for a night. Has a very european budget hipster hotel feel with rooftop, bar, and lounging area. Great location close to train and TS.

Yelp
If you are a recent college grad or student accustomed to a dorm room then this place is for you. If you have ever stayed at any other 2-3-star+ hotel you will be disappointed with the condition of the room. While the room is clean, every single aspect of the room and hall felt dated. The hallways were dark and the "hip" background music actually added an ominous/eerie undertone as I walked towards the shared bathroom. I felt a bit claustrophobic with the steel sink right next to my head. Yes, this is a no frills hotel, but it feels like Pod 51 just gave up, with an attitude that screams tourist trap. For the price I paid, I could get a very decent hotel room elsewhere. With that said, I could tell that the cleaning staff was trying hard to maintain the place as the room smelled nice as I walked in. The receptionists were also polite and the lobby is a great place to do work. In summary, if you stay in one of the bunk bed rooms be prepared to walk down memory lane and live like you did in the dorms. And no, it's not cool.

Yelp
I think pushing forty is a good time to check in to somewhere labelled "hostel", don't you? Any who.. there were actually people of all ages at this great, great little hotel/hostel/whatever. Its a little bit done in cookie cutter trendy style but not unbearably so. I sprang for a room with my own bath because it was a price difference of $6/night and I saw flip flops and a robe setting me back that much anyhow. The size of the room was comparable in size to two other hotels I have stayed at in Manhattan...one of them costing 4x the price of the pod. There's a rooftop, a trendy new bar restaurant attached, they give you four big pillows, ipod speaker and docking station, windows on two different walls, a see-through glass shower....did I mention it was $78 a night? (Disclaimer: it was winter, orbitz discount applied, pre city tax.) Whatever, its in a great upper east side neighborhood. Quiet and safe yet with many eating, drinking, & shopping places and several subway lines within blocks. I'd definitely stay here or the sister pod 39 hotel next time.

Yelp
This hotel never issued a refund that they confirmed I would receive. I tried to give them the opportunity to fix the problem, but I was blown off and told to take it up with my bank. It has been 3 months since my stay and still haven't received a refund.

Yelp
Check in and staff was nice. Room was small and shower was small which is fine by me. But first night we stayed. There was a huge cockroach in the crack of our bed. Ughhhhhhh

Yelp
On my very first visit to NYC we chose Pod 51 and I could not have been happier with our choice. The room was extremely clean. Although the room was small (if you book this hotel, you should know that in advance) it had everything we needed. The location is stellar. Within just a few blocks walk, there are all kinds of pubs, restaurants, entertainment, and just about anything you might want. We found the staff to be extremely friendly and helpful. There's a small, limited cafe' and, although it's a pretty small menu, it's a great place to grab a bagel or something light for breakfast or a snack. A shout out to the concierges. Being a first time visitor, I needed a LOT of directions on multiple days. They were always extremely helpful in getting us to our destinations. Great experience, all the way around!
