Pod Camps Bay

"Where is this hotel, and what does it look like?Just off the main Camps Bay beachfront strip is this hip, 17-room boutique hotel run on green architectural principles (it even has its own water supply, for example). From the road, you enter a starkly modern architectural space through an automated glass door. A minimalist indoor-outdoor cocktail bar and lounge leads to a lap pool and terrace with a sea view. Zen-calm, the dining space provides a cool, tranquil counterpoint to the sunshine glare. Books, board games, bean bags, organically shaped solid wood tables and a Smart TV give the lounge a lived-in, rumpus room feeling. Tell us about the other guests; who are they?Sunseekers, either lounging by the pool or heading down to the beach. Mostly European. How was check-in?Seamless check-in by friendly staff. The 17 rooms are compact and therefore highly functional spaces. Speaking of rooms: Give us the details. My room was street-facing with a partial sea view from the small balcony. Natural wood and raw slate add warmth to an otherwise functional, uncluttered space. The design is open-plan to further maximize space, which means from the very comfortable king bed you can see the walk-in double rain shower and large bath tub (but not the separate loo, behind frosted glass). There’s underfloor heating for winter, AC for summer, plus TV, DVD player, Nespresso machine, iPod docking station, and complimentary minibar. Mini mountain-facing rooms are ideal if location (proximity to the beach) counts for more than space and a sliver of a view of Lion’s Head is good enough. Three of the luxury rooms have private plunge pools, and partial sea views. Anything else you'd like to call out?I loved the striped beach bag stocked with sunscreen lotion, towels and beach bats, and the selection of complimentary digital newspapers and magazines available to download. Rates include a fully stocked mini bar, unlimited tea, coffee and mineral water, free wifi, and use of a fully equipped gym in the basement. Choose a movie and get complimentary room-service delivery of popcorn and other snacks. There is a lap pool and sea-view cocktail bar, and secure underground parking. Perfect. How about the on-site dining? Worth it?A generous breakfast is included in the rate—buffet style fresh fruits, cheeses and cold cuts, pastries, fresh smoothies, top-quality tea and coffee, followed by a cooked breakfast. For other meals, there are plenty of cafes, restaurants and tapas bars within walking distance along the Camps Bay seafront. Ask the staff for insider recommendations, or order take-outs and staff will serve it in the dining room. Order a picnic to be sent down to the beach, along with a beach umbrella and chairs. Honestly, nothing beats a buffet-style breakfast—especially a fresh one. Tell us something about your experience there that really stood out to you.Nobody minded when we arrived with sandy feet after a day on the beach with take-out pizza from a nearby restaurant. The manager set up a table so that we could enjoy the last of the setting sun, and opened a bottle of wine. Bottom line: worth it, and why?As a conveniently located bolthole, set back from the busy Camps Bay beachfront without missing out on the cool vibe and ocean views, especially if you don’t want to hire a car. Everything is within walking distance, and you’re on the bus route into the city and to the Waterfront." - Jane Broughton

Overall.||We stayed for four days, and it was magnificent. Loved the style, location and rooms. The best bit was the service, however. Pretty unbeatable. Highly recommended ||The Good.||1. The location is fantastic overlooking the beach and beside the strip of shops, bars and restaurants. The building makes the most of the view, even though there is an old apartment block in front of the hotel. The views to the Twelve Apostles are also really good.||2. The style of the property is very contemporary with lots of outdoor seating, pool and a nice bar areas. It was a great place to sit all day.||3. The rooms were huge, with modern decor. The balcony looked out to the beach and was a great place to sit and relax. There were lots of extras, from free bottles of wine (refilled every day), coffee machine, free water, and lots of snacks. There was also a nice internal seating area. Hot water bottles are provided on colder evenings, the bed is comfortable and the room clean.||4. The bathroom is again pretty modern in style and had a great shower.||5. Food was excellent. We generally had breakfast in the room, and all was good, especially the cooked items. The main breakfsst offered even more choice, including lovely gluten-free pecan and banana bread.||6. The standout was the service. Impeccable, friendly, efficient, and generous. Check-in was superb and a glass of bubbly always helps. The staff offered a great parking service and really could not have done more. One day, there was a little repair work being done, and when we went back to the room, there was a free bottle of sparkling wine as an apology! Very generous. Their recommendations for places to eat were also very good. Definitely some of the best service we ha e ever received.||The Bad.||Nothing

I had the most incredible stay at POD Camps Bay. From the moment I arrived, I knew this was a special place. I was welcomed with a warm cloth and a refreshing drink, which set the tone for the rest of my visit. The staff could not have been more kind, helpful, or accommodating. My room was spectacular, spacious, and offered both mountain and beach views. Waking up to that scenery was unforgettable. The bed was so comfortable that I slept better than I have in a long time. Their turndown service is unlike anywhere else I’ve stayed. Along with preparing the bed, they also leave a warm compress for your feet, which felt like such a thoughtful and luxurious touch. I happened to check in on my birthday, and the staff went above and beyond to make it memorable. They surprised me with a custom cake, fresh flowers, and a bottle of champagne in my room. It truly made me feel celebrated. On top of that, they coordinated dinner reservations and even arranged a helicopter tour.||||I’ve stayed at many hotels, but I’ve never experienced hospitality quite like this. Everything about POD Camps Bay felt personal and genuine. I left feeling cared for and very special. I can’t wait to return.

When we arrived at POD, we were greeted with ‘welcome home’ and boy of boy did the team make us feel like we were. They were simply fabulous. |Our room was spacious and beautifully appointed. The attention to detail was impeccable - complimentary mini bar, honey and lemon for your drinks, snacks, beautiful bath robes and toiletries and even a fully equipped beach basket. |The breakfasts were delicious and beautifully presented. |The beautiful Janet made the best cocktails I have ever had and was a true delight to be with. |The beach, restaurants, cafes and bars are all easily accessible so the location was just perfect. |The pool area is so well thought out as well with great views of the ocean and mountains. Unfortunately it was just a tad too cool to take a dip. |Thank you to the entire team for making us feel so special. We will be back.

We had such a warm welcome — they even surprised me with a cake and chocolates for my birthday, which I truly appreciated. They offer valet parking, so they take care of parking your car and bringing it back to you. Every request or question was handled quickly and with genuine care. For example, one night we were hungry and noticed their kitchen was closed, so we asked about ordering pizza. Instead, they provided us with pizza themselves. When I asked about a microwave, they simply offered to heat my food for me. The service exceeded expectations — the staff always greeted us warmly, fulfilled every request before we even had to ask, and made us feel genuinely welcomed. The cleaners were also kind and attentive, ensuring we had everything we needed, even bringing water and fresh towels before ending their shift. The location is perfect — just across the street from the beach, great for swimming or relaxing, and surrounded by restaurants and cafés. The only thing that didn’t meet our expectations was the pool. We booked the most expensive room on Booking.com with a pool, but the pool was on the ground floor facing the street with no privacy, and no sea view. As Muslims, this wasn’t ideal for us. However, for many guests, this may not be an issue. Overall, the hotel is amazing, and the service is truly outstanding ⭐️

We have just finished a wonderful stay at the Pod Camps Bay Hotel. The hotel is a great location, beautifully styled and designed, with wonderful views of the beautiful beach in front and mountains behind. Most of all the service from all the team at the hotel was exceptional - warm, personal and every need was taken care of. Would thoroughly recommend if you are looking for a great base from which to explore both Camps Bay, Table Mountain and Cape Town in general.
