12 Best Wine Tours and Tastings in Florence | Condé Nast Traveler

"A beautiful Tuscan drive through winding rustic roads ends at Podere le Ripi, a photogenic winery with a modern reception and tasting area. Winemaker Francesco Illy (of the Illy coffee family) is known industry-wide as an innovator; his wines are biodynamic—and he himself is dynamic, too. After a tasting and snack, you'll leave with one key takeaway: that you can at once embrace and buck tradition while still creating great wine." - Erica Firpo

One of our favourite winery visits!!! Our guide, Ciara was so welcoming and knowledgeable. When we speak to other wineries, they also acknowledge that this winery has a group of good people working for them - quite evidently because you can see that when you have happy employees, they give the best to your customers too. €40 for 5 wines and a tour of the winery was just a treat. We were lucky to have been giving a private tour as the other participants did not show up, but it was also expected to be a small group. The winery was just beautiful and even more so the wines! We had a tough time deciding what to bring home. Overall, a must visit if you are in Montalcino!!!

Absolutely fantastic tour ! Our guide was knowledgeable, friendly, caring and clearly had a passion for the animals welfare and wine production at Vineyard she was absolutely fantastic!. The wines produced here are various and there is something for everyone! We opted for a tour of the animals, lunch and wine tasting and was extremely happy with the service and staff. I can highly recommend this to anyone looking for a fun adventurous afternoon out !

Our visit to Podere Le Ripi was one of spectacular!! Consuelo was our guide, and she was absolutely fantastic. She was so knowledgeable and passionate about the wines and the whole Brunello-making process. She shared really interesting insights about the vineyard’s philosophy, biodynamic practices, and how their wines come to life. We asked a lot of questions, and she answered all of them with care and clarity. The wines were incredible—each one unique and beautifully crafted—and the setting couldn’t have been better. We did the tasting with a lovely group of people, and it felt more like a relaxed afternoon with friends than a formal tour. The view was breathtaking, and Consuelo even gave us some great local tips for the rest of our stay in Montalcino.

Just WOW! This was the coolest vineyard I’ve ever been to, and the wine was so delicious we shipped a bunch home. The property is gorgeous, the staff was so kind, attentive, and knowledgeable. We will absolutely be back!

Remote winding dirt road with incredible views leads to an incredible winery. We came without a reservation but were able to have a tasting on the Serendipity patio with stunning views. Katerina provided such an informative review of the wines and winery. Tried the Sangiovese Masters tasting and stuffed zucchini flower appetizer. Really worth the drive and highly recommended

We booked a tour with dinner and it was excellent! The chef was incredible! The tastings were excellent. We also had a pregnant woman on our tour and they were extremely accommodating and thoughtful with adjusting the menu choices that worked for her. The building itself is unique and worth the visit. We would go again!

A group of 9 of us visited and Consuelo was our guide. She was absolutely amazing, spoke great English and was so knowledgeable and passionate about the wines from the winery and throughout Tuscany. She shared a lot about people from the area and a lot more than just about wine. She was very interesting and really lovely.

Honestly, I don't understand the positive reviews. The place is geared towards foreign tourists. You come to taste the Brunello for the quality of the wine. And I am sorry, but this is not a great Brunello. The views are nice, all the route guides speak great English. It is a modern place you can learn how wine is produced using modern techniques. Unfortunately, we were not impressed with the final results. I wish we picked a different Brunello/Montalcino winery to go to. Ah yes, their prices per bottle are not justifiable for the quality of the taste (personal opinion of course)

Yelp
Wonderful experience tasting the regional vintage Brunello wines. The wine tasting included nicely prepared lasagna that paired well with the various wines. Our host was very pleasant and explained the history of this vineyard and what goes into developing world-class wine.

Yelp
I did a lot of research on selecting vineyards that were unique and what I loved about this was that they are biodynamic, have a bonsai vineyard and have olive oil. The owner is also Francesco Illy if you are familiar with Illy coffee. Biodynamic: Uncontaminated soil and the wine processes happen in a 100% ecological wine cellar, built to have zero impact on the environment. Bonsai: It is the densest vineyard in the world meaning the vines are planted very close together which produce a very unique tasting wine. Tour & Tasting: We did a tour of the vineyard, pagoda, cellar and did the actual tasting inside the tasting room by the terrace. We went to about 9 wineries while in Tuscany and Podere le Ripi had one of the most memorable tours. We tasted: 2015 Toscana Rosso IGT 2014 Toscana Rosso IGT 2012 Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2011 Brunello di Montalcino DOCG Riserva 2005 Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2016 Bonsai with delicious Parmesan cheese, bread and olive oil. Our guide was very knowledgeable and made us feel right at home. We ended up buying 2 bottles plus a bottle of olive oil.

Yelp
We did a wine tasting here, very cool. I loved their port. Can't remember if you can buy the wines in the U.S., but she said Mario Batali serves them at some of his restaurants.
