This was awesome. Huge selection of beers, and the decor inside was really cool. Met some locals who were very friendly, and also said great things about this place. Staff was incredibly knowledgeable and made suggestions based on what beer you want.

This bar has such a unique interior 🎭 — old dolls, musical instruments, and quirky details hanging from the ceiling and scattered all around. Definitely recommend not just sitting on the big terrace outside, but also stepping inside to take it all in. The beer selection is huge, though mostly bottled, so for me it’s a solid 4/5 overall.

I had never seen a waiter work with so much passion and joy. This man, wearing his little cap, was serving 10 tables all by himself going up and down with his tray full of glasses, full of enthusiasm. My respect and admiration to this man. excellent service, incredibly fast, and very attentive. The place is so fantastic, unique style. really good beer

The place is really well placed. You have to wait a bit to get a table, but it's manageable. Inside the atmosphere is really nice, the decorations and themes make it cozy. Regarding beer and food, there are lots of beers to order. The flaw is the food, I wanted to like it but unfortunately wasn't good. Still they give you appetizers before the meal.

There were so many Belgian beers on the menu. It might be hard to choice but if you tell a stuff your favorite tastes, they give you the best one.

One of the best bar to drink some Belgium beers, and also has the best waiter i have ever seen. I definetly recomand to come here and enjoy an evening!

For two tourist Americans I'm glad we stumbled upon this place. I had saved it to my list of places to try in Belgium and we just happened to be right by it when we decided let's check it out! Quirky joint, old and unique. we had a baked pasta dish and a nice board of cured meats.

I came across this place while looking for lunch. It is right by the Mannekin Pis which is such a touristy corner so the place gets a crowd at times. It is such a quirky spot with vintage decor and puppet figured. It has different levels sort of and an outside seating area. I had the Lasagne Bolognaise Maison, came out very hot and fresh. Has so much flavor. Really big portion with bread and butter on the side. Really recommend it! They have a pretty big beer menu with lots of great options!

A very extensive beer menu and decent food right around the corner from a heavily trafficked tourist attraction. That alone with probably get you to consider Le Poechenellekelder. The decor, while some a bit creepy, is also a reason to at least stop in for a drink. The food won't wow you, but it will not disappoint either. Service is solid. Again, nothing to brag about but they do their best. I came before the crowds surrounded Manneken Pis and found there was plenty of room. When I walked by later, I found it was much busier (no surprise), so worth keeping that in mind. Also, worth noting, they have a small section of outdoor seating to take advantage of if the weather is nice.

The 5 stars are based solely on our drinks. The menu is once again a war & peace novel. There is something for everyone here. Even though we did not eat, everyone around us who were dining seemed VERY happy. All in all, a lovely little spot to sit and sip on their little patio, and people watch! UPDATE: Go inside!!! You will not regret it!!!

Very cool pub for the beer affectionado. The decor is very eclectic with the antique marionette puppets and various "peeing man" statuettes everywhere. We had a delicious charcuterie and cheese platter. Plenty of food for four people. Highly recommend stopping in for a quick drink.

Wow, they have a huge beer menu! I sat on their very cute patio that allows you to do some great people watching. They also serve food. I had a nice cheese and salami plate. The location is perfect to take a break from sightseeing. The waitstaff was pleasant and didn't seem to mind my poor beer name pronunciations.

My friend and I ran into this place by accident on the way back to our hotel, but sure glad we did. Loved this place so much, we ended up returning a few times. There can be a bit of a wait, but there's a regular flow of people moving in and out and we never waited more than a few minutes, despite the place being packed. Service is quick and they promptly get you seated with a menu and a nice bowl of snacks to munch on. The Belgian beer list is a Belgian beer lover's dream with everything imaginable. I had to go with some Trappist beer and I even tried some kwak beer that comes in a unique glass/stand. Both great options. The decor which covers nearly every inch of the bar was pretty neat to look through. If you're looking for a place to relax and drink some solid belgian brews, this is the spot.

This is the place directly across from the famous Manneken Pis statue in Brussels. In my humble opinion.....this is probably the best reason to visit the statue...... We ordered drinks from the VEEY extensive selection and since we already had dinner and just wanted a snack we order the PLANCHETTE DU MARCHÉ. I have to say....best call in a while. The sausage was sooooo good.....the brie cheese and bread basket were both plentiful and went along perfectly. A great place to people watch and a great place to grab a drink and a snack...... The only reason this isn't five stars is because I felt the service could have been better.....It wasn't France rude.....but it wasn't friendly either.

The waiter poured my beer into a glass from a bottle without even looking at the glass and had his back to me whilst having a conversation with another staff member loudly across the room. He then put the glass down and walked away. The entire glass was filled with foam so I couldn't drink it. I had to get another member of staff to show this to as he had already walked off. she sent him back to me and he said "you just need to wait for the foam to go down". Then he walked off again leaving me waiting for ten minutes before I could drink the beer.

Of you like Trappist beers this place is a must see - and drink at. The beer list is extensive and pretty exclusive, at least it seemed that way to an American. The food is cheeses and other small plays and the decor is quirky to say the least. Absolutely loved this place and wished I lived in the neighborhood!

4 years since my last visit...everything is still great! You can sit inside to enjoy the eccentric interior motif, or on a nice day sit out on the front patio with a great view of the overrated Manniken Pis statue and all the tourist mobs whom surround it. The expansive beer list seemingly has endless choices to fit any beer lovers palate. The prices widely vary with lagers for less than €3 to rare bottles that can exceed €30...is it really that good? What was surprisingly good was the service: the Belgian princess whom served us was friendly, upbeat, and patient with us four old tourists. Merci! You can also some basic food here, we got a €4.90 gouda plate and €5.40 smoked ham plate to share, nothing special, but satisfying snacks to go with our extraordinary beers.

Great beer selection and super knowledgeable staff. Hot meals are limited to pasta (spaghetti and lasagna) and the soup of the day. Charcuterie options are vast and tasty, though!

I am not a beer drinker. I drink beer only a few times a year when I am required to drink beer. As extensive as their beer menu might be here, this review comes from someone who doesn't drink beer. We came here for what I thought was dinner. I glanced at his phone on Yelp, and all I saw was "tapas". Great, I love Spanish tapas...That's what I thought I was eating for dinner. When I first saw the menu, I was confused.. It was all about beer. I thought beer menu occupied 90% of the menu (a few pages long), it was that huge. So someone who enjoys drinking beer, I think this is a good place for you. Across from the Manneken Pis, centrally located at downtown Brussels. I ordered a glass of wine. It was easy choice, either red or white. Simpler than airplane wine selection on business class (where I get to pick between two reds at least). I asked a server for food menu and he pointed at the beer menu. Some cheese and meats tray, some pasta dish. We ordered cheese and meat, and lasagna. Lasagna came out hot, I even took a short clip as it was bubbling. I liked the cheese used for lasagna. Not quite sure what it was but it was thick and heavy. The portion size doesn't seem that big but it was quite filling. We talked about getting Belgium waffles for desert later and I complained if I had to share, but I ended up so full after 1/3 of lasagna (or did I eat a half?). Inside the restaurant was interesting. It doesn't look that big from outside or from the entrance area but when you go way inside, it's like someone's house. I had to take stairs down to use a ladies room. I thought I was going to get lost with different small rooms. I couldn't quite care of the decor with puppet figures & framed pictures on the walls. It wasn't what I thought it was going to be but I ended up having a good time from having a great conversation. It's a good place to hang out to catch up. No credit card accepted, Cash only. Cash in EURO only, not Swiss francs or British pounds. No worries, price here is very reasonable.

This place is a pretty cool little beer hall located right in the heart of Brussels directly next to the little peeing boy statue. If you want Belgium beer, then this place has the menu for you, the menu and selection is HUGE! The food is nothing to really write home about, headlined by a couple of pasta dishes and some tapas such as various cheeses, meats and breads... The real reason you come here is to take in the whole vibe of a Belgium beer hall and this place excels in that experience. Overall, I'd highly recommend taking a visit here to grab drinks, but would also advise eating a meal before arriving to fully take in the entire experience and not be disappointed. This place was right across the small street from our hotel, also across from Mannekin Pis, so it was cool for us to be so close to our hotel, have a few bites to eat, have a few brews and people watch as they photograph themselves with the peeing boy lol. We enjoyed the Belgian beers and loved that they served all their beers with the matching glasses, very cool. The food here isn't great, but that's to be expected since it's more of a brew place than a restaurant. I wasn't impress with any of the things we ordered but the cheeses were rather good.

One of my top favorite bars in Brussels. Super weird, super cool, perfect outside terrace for people watching while sampling from their massive beer menu. A must see.

This place is great! The service was friendly for the most part and helped us Americans decide which beers to try from the French menu. I had the ultra-sugary, barely alcoholic Lindeman's Framboise with spaghetti bolognaise. The spaghetti was absolutely COVERED in cheese--I've never seen that much cheese on a bolognaise, but it was delicious! The beer (I'm not even sure I can call it that) was basically a sparkling juice, but for my tastes it worked. The meal ended up being about €34 for both of us--two meals and 2 beers. The restaurant itself has a LOT of character. You'll find a million versions of the creepy baby statue and lots of other eclectic art. The seating was nice although a little tight, but it all added to a comfy atmosphere. Overall, I would definitely go here again!

Who am I kidding? I chose Le Poechenellekelder because restaurants in the proximity were mostly expensive or bad or both. LP showed up on Yelp search as 4 starred and costed only €€. Then the delicious beer won me over. The salami won me over (must order). The rollmop (herring) was a steal. The pasta was large portioned by American standard (too bad it tasted meh). The waiter was patient (it took us a long time to Google translate the French menu). And this was, after all, a laid back, beautiful patio facing the peeing boy. Oh yeah, I felt like I was on vacation.

This place...what do I say. I had the most wonderful beers in Brussels here. They have an amazing collection of beers. This place is not one of those touristy places which advertise 10k beera. It's super authentic & frozen in time kinda place.

This tourist trap delivers! Situated a couple of meters from Manneken pis the tourist pressure is enormous on the local area. The perfect place for a restaurant/bar/pub. But instead of just ripping tourists off, they have a large selection of the best Belgian beers, nice variety of smaller Belgian dishes and other food. Our party of four chose to study the local tourist behaviour and found a perfect spot outside with an overview of the Pis. The weather was perfect for the decently priced Belgian Lambics and Geuzes complemented with a large plate of Belgian cheese, sausages and other good stuff. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We counted visitors from almost all continents (with the exception of down-unders) and everyone was treated nice.

Here is across street of ''Manneken Pis''(Little man piss). I drank an espresso single it wasn't so strong.It was ok. I recommended going to inside where have so many amuse things.There are Manneken Pis's pictures when he wore costumes he were so cute Nice service. Separated washrooms. For Wheelchair : There has outside terrace tables.Cobbled road but it might park a car on street after 7pm.I'm not sure during a day for parking. When I went to washroom at there,inside had stairs that up and through a second floor then down stairs until the washrooms.So,Washroom maybe can't go by a wheelchair.I suggest ask if the restaurant has Exit door on first floor.

Having walked over to see the famous Manneken Pis, we were looking for a location to grab a drink and have some light snacks. We noted this restaurant right on the corner with a nice patio seating under some trees. Having been thru endless restaurants which were obviously tourist traps, we were pleased to find that the menu and drink offering was much more of a local flavor. The drink selections are very extensive and they have a nice lunch selection. Overall, the wait staff was very friendly. As the beer menu can be very intimidating to a Belgium beer newbie, we were quite pleased that the waiter spent the time to explain the flavor profile of the different beers and provide recommendations. We died laughing when I was asking for a Belgium beer tasting flight like the other tourist joints and the waiter made the most condescending comments. So the recommendation here is to find a place like this and really learning about the beers instead of just grabbing a flight somewhere on the the street. Food options were good. We ordered a spaghetti marinara and some sausages for an appetizer. Sausages went perfectly with the beers and they were very light - not greasy or fried. Spaghetti was good but a bit heavy paired up with the already heavy beers. Overall, recommend this place for a quick beer and snack pit stop. Couldn't be more convenient location being right across the street from the Manneken Pis!

The bar that makes a trip to see the Mannekin Pis worthwhile! Seats outside offer a view of the urinating child and the clamour of perverted tourists that have come to watch. The inside of the bar is well worth a look, with great decor all over the walls (of particular interest the puppets...and the weapons on the ceiling) and even a table with life size puppets sat at it, so make sure you don't just drink outside and then leave. Has a tremendous drinks selection too and doesn't seem to overcharge just because of its location. Highly recommended!

A solid place to sit outside and have a Trappist ale. Since the patio is across from the Manneken Pis statue, if you sit outside you're guaranteed a constant stream of tourists, stoners and an otherwise fascinating and endless stream of good people watching. A note on the beers - if you're into the Trappist ales, and let's be honest, why else would you come to Belgium, then Rochefort is a good choice. However I'd recommend the Rochefort #6, because the #10 sits at 11.3% alcohol and starts to go down like scotch after half a bottle. Smooth. (cough)

The beer selection here is worth having to practically fight to get service. The Manneken Pis is basically across the narrow street so you may encounter some congestion. Once we got the feel for our server everything became magical. Huge lists of fantastic, complex Belgian beers. The complimentary snack mix was surprisingly good too. We didnt eat here but the specials that evening sounded fantastic. We each had several beers then stumbled out very happy. Added to my list of reasons to return to Brussels.

This very well may be my most favorite bar in the entire world. The ambiance and decor are one of a kind. The beer selection is fantastic, and the staff are extremely cordial, friendly, and very knowledgeable and willing to assist you in pairing the perfect beer and food to your taste, if needed. We are forever grateful to our wonderful host in Brussels, Pascal, for recommending this fine establishment to us.

The ambience of this place is just out of the world. Feels like you have been transported centuries back - very well decorated interiors, wide selection of Belgian beers and a short but nice tapas food option makes this place a must visit! Best part this is open till 1 am!

This place was great. Really good beer selection and the music made me feel like I was in a medieval castle! There were a lot of creepy dolls around, but it just ads to the story. Centrally located and not overpriced, this place delivers.

Okay, you've seen Mannekin Pis and whether or not you were particularly impressed with it, if you love beer then you are going to love this place - they have heaps on offer. Actualluy, if it is just the beer your after then there are plenty of places around Bruxelles where you can get a decent choice, but the fact that this place is opposite Mannekin Pis makes it a pretty easy place to stop off at. However, if you simply sit outside (which seems to be the case for pretty much all of the places in Belgium) then you are going to miss out on half the impressive parts of this bar because if you go inside you will be met with a huge collection of mannikens covering pretty much every part of the place (no doubt due to their proximity to the Manniken himself). So, even if you just come here for the beer, do youself a favour and actually step inside and have a look around - you will not be disappointed.

This place looks like a tourist trap, but you can avoid it by walking through the bar and going downstairs. They have a lot of beers that are lesser known and the prices are still reasonable. The puppets are cool, but probably will give some nightmares.

We ordered a plate with cheese and salami and a portion of bread and butter. The bread was a crusty baguette that they heated. Delicious! We noticed others interfering pasta dishes. The beers were excellent and the waiter very helpful...there are so many choices that it can be overwhelming. The bar is filled with marionettes, puppets, and other interesting antiques. Altogether a unique experience.

This is such an awesome bar! The servers are super friendly and accommodating. We stopped in here for a few beers before dinner somewhere else. They have a very extensive selection of Belgian beers. We loved the beer, atmosphere, and people. This place definitely deserves a stop in if you are in Brussels.

Ok this is a bit touristy due to it's location but don't let it fool you, this is definitely a classic amongst locals too. The decoration inside, the great terrace and the selection of beers makes it an unmissable spot. It could be a solid 5 stars without it's major downside: the service is often terrible. They know their business, will probably provide good advice but definitely forgot how to smile.

Has an extensive beer list at very reasonable prices, especially considering it's just opposite Manneken Pis. Also serves some cheap snacks (spaghetti, lasagna, ...) that come in good portions and are not too bad. The place is decorated around the theme of the puppet theatre in the basement (Poesjenel is old Dutch for Marionette puppet). A nice place to taste some different beers, both for locals and tourists, but don't forget to bring cash!! A bit weird for such a place: no cards accepted.

Can't say enough about how great this place is. The beer selection is great especially if you like sour, fruity beers, and if you don't they have a beer for you. Great cheese dishes available. Sit in their patio and enjoy a beer or 3 (try a different one every time). The waiters there are awesome, they will guide you thru the menu and even recommend you a place to eat if you're undecided after. Make sure to ask about the visiting card which shows you a bit about the place. And make sure to check out the inside as well as the old theater stage downstairs. There is so much history and character to this place that the combination of food and beer makes this a must see gem.

Good spot by the Manneken Pis. Great spot for people watching. If you don't like crowds I wouldn't recommend it. They have a large selection of bottles as well as some great options on tap. The food was ok. We got a meat and cheese plate and a sandwich to share. Overall a good spot!

The beer selection gets 5 stars. The people watching/patio gets 4 stars. The service get 4.5 stars. The food gets 3 stars, which brings me to an average of 4 stars. I had the spaghetti bolognese. It wasn't horrible, but it wasn't anything special. My boyfriend got the Croque-Monsieur which is a toasted ham and cheese sandwich. It was also just OK. The service was great, the waiter helped us choose beers and was friendly. I would definitely go back to drink, but would eat somewhere else first.

One of my favorite places in Brussels. I've been to Brussels twice, and we always end up here 2-3 times a trip. The beer selection is awesome and it's a great place to hang out and people watch (it's right across the way from the Peeing Boy). Had dinner there, which was good but not a huge selection. Come for the beer and the ambience!

This is just the weirdest place with the weirdest decorations. However, for a touristic neighborhood you find such great service and prices. From my time living in Brussels I always took my foreign guests here. Always a cozy and local atmosphere :)

You'd think a place cater corner to the uber and perpetually crowded mannekin pis would be overrun and be mediocre, happily the opposite is the case here. A whimsical place,whose name means puppet basement in Flemish, serves up lovely beer and a petite menu. One in our party enjoyed his lovely spaghetti with veg and garlic. The croque Monsieur was correct.

This place was recommended to us by the concierge at my hotel. Not sure if you'd use that to call it a local haunt, but it turned out to be a good recommendation. It's located right next to Manneken Pis, one of the local sites-to-see if you're in town on a tourist mission. The beer list here is extensive, but that's true of at least 50% of the places you'll visit in Brussels. The decor inside is themed around marionettes -- you'll see plenty hanging from the rafters. Honestly, it's a little bit on the creepy side. Many of the marionettes are representations of, say, death from some play or another. Or a medieval doctor with bird mask. It's an undeniably neat effect, though. When I'd visited, they'd also decorated for Christmas with plenty of wreathing and garland decorating the place as well - it made it feel quite warm and inviting. For the Plasirs d'Hiver festival, they'd set up a nativity scene outside using some of the marionettes too. While there, We'd had a couple of small plates - cheese and pate. Their selection on that front gave us plenty to choose from.

One of my favorite bars in Brussels. It's location may seem like it will be packed with tourists, but it's surprisingly not such a trap. They have really great Christmas drinks out right now. Sit back, drink a few of the best beers out there, and enjoy the weird atmosphere.

For a cozy bar experience in the midst of one of Brussel's most touristy destinations, tuck in to what may be the most difficult to pronounce bar in the city. Begin the night sipping on a beer or two at this place and you're guaranteed to crack a smile as you walk past the peeing little man on your way out.

We had just one night in Brussels in late December and found this spot to grab lunch and drinks shortly after getting off the train. Our server was great and helped us make sense of the amazing drink selection. It's been a while, but I'm fairly certain that we got a cheese and meat plate, and it was all delicious as well. Just a fun intro to Brussels.
