Poets House Hotel and Restaurant

My daughter booked the writing room for her wedding ceremony and reception in September. It was everything we hoped for and more. The staff were great helping to ensure everything ran smoothly. Sara, the venues event planner was brilliant as were all the staff on the day and throughout the evening. I wasn’t sure what to expect but it couldn’t have gone any better. We all had a fabulous day. The weather was lovely so we were also able to make use of the garden for the drinks reception. Several of us had rooms including the bridal suite and all were fantastic. Just a brilliant brilliant day and evening. Thank you to everyone at Poets House for making it so special.

Sunday Roast at Poets House – A Pleasant Surprise Visited Poets House today for a Sunday roast after a recommendation, and I’m very glad I did. From the moment we walked in, the interior was a pleasant surprise—elegant yet relaxed, with enough space to feel comfortable. We weren’t squashed in, and could actually hold a conversation without having to ask each other to repeat ourselves—a rare treat these days. The staff were exceptionally polite and attentive throughout, striking that perfect balance of professionalism and friendliness. A particular highlight: the food was served on hot plates. It might seem a small detail, but it makes a big difference—nothing worse than a great meal going lukewarm on a cold dish. As for the roast itself? Extremely nice. Generous portions, beautifully cooked, and thoroughly enjoyable. I’d wholeheartedly recommend Poets House to anyone looking for a proper Sunday roast in a refined yet welcoming setting. I’ll definitely be returning.

A lovely weekend away for our wedding. The hotel is beautiful and the staff in the bar and restaurant were fantastic and very attentive. They provided an excellent service. The room was lovely but we had a few slight niggles. Our room was very overlooked and we didn’t have the best view. We also had a bathroom door that had a broken handle. I did get stuck in there. We notified the reception but unfortunately it was not fixed so we had to be careful. When we went for breakfast, items were not restocked and the pastries were empty. We enjoyed the breakfast from the table menu cooked to order.

Wow! What a place. |I booked the hotel to celebrate my 60th Birthday with friends and family. We stayed for 2 nights Friday/Saturday. The rooms were fabulous with the copper bath being a highlight for a lot of our party. We went out to eat Friday and then met up in the bar later in the evening. It has a lovely atmosphere and the staff were very accommodating. On the Saturday night we had booked a private room. There was 15 of us and the room size was perfect. You could have got 16 maximum. We all had a 3 course meal which was superb. The staff were attentive without being too much. They provided a small speaker so i could play my own playlist in the background. We then went back downstairs to the bar at about 10.30?|I can't find anything negative to say. All our guests had an amazing time, the staff were amazing and a special thanks to Sara the events Manager who was very helpful.|Breakfast was also very good with a lovely selection of fruit, yoghurt cereals etc and then various cooked options.|Thank you Poets House for making my Birthday celebrations so special.

Amazing will definitely be back!! Me and my wife came for lunch today and we did not have a reservation however that was not a problem and we were promptly sat and taken care of by our young waiter called taige! He was brilliant and went above and beyond to make our experience truly special from explaining our wines to putting up the tables umbrella and getting my wife extra cushions, he is a amazing asset to the team there and I hope he sees this review! The food was also amazing I opted for the duck pate to start followed by the rump steak which were all delicious! It was extremely busy today in the garden I saw other people with cocktails which also looked superb! All over an amazing location experience and food and will definitely be back!!

Lovely stay, with great staff and super service. We stayed overnight but first met with friends for lunch in the hotel's Sonnets Bar. It was great and our server, Mercedes, deserves a name-check. The outlook over the courtyard was super and Mercedes' service was friendly. Our room was spacious and stylish, with clean white linen. Dinner was tasty, beautifully prepared and the service was attentive but not overpowering. Breakfast was lovely.

My partner booked afternoon tea for us, we had never been to the hotel before. We were greated warmly and shown to our table, the environment was lovely. Drinks were bought promptly followed by our sandwiches and cakes. Everything was delicious, the only small point I would make is the poor quality, jelly jam which didn't match anything else we were served. The service was perfect, friendly professional and attentive, I am looking forward to going back to the hotel.

Absolutly fantastic.|Popped in for lunch, poets house lunchtime special 3 courses for £29.|Every starter and dessert sounded lovely. We both chose paté, yum yum, i had cod for main, j had lemon chicken, lovely, for desserts, i had strawberry chocolate dome, j had creme brulee. I really recommend this place, very attentive staff, very pleasant surroundings. Worth every penny spent. Will definitly go again. YOU SHOULD TRY IT

We absolutely adored staying at Poet's House in Ely! Our family had traveled in for a wedding at The Old Hall and found the town of Ely to be completely charming. I cannot imagine any other lodging option that would've been more charming! Our rooms were beautiful, the bed so comfortable, and the relaxing soaking tub was the perfect end to a wonderful wedding celebration. All the appointments and details are too many to mention here but if you ever have an opportunity to visit the Cambridgeshire area, you would be lucky to stay here. I have to give a special shout out to the general manager, Christine, for going above and beyond to help us. We had ordered taxis to the wedding and the first taxi went without incident, but the second taxi left our group. Another taxi was not available for almost an hour so Christine drove us to the wedding so that we would not be late for the event. She absolutely a perfect guide on the drive and so very kind! The breakfast was delicious and the service perfect in the restaurant and the bar. I simply cannot say enough nice things !
