I can't believe I almost forgot to write a review about this place. Another recounting from my time in Berlin in March 2023. On my multiple sojourns to Albert Cuyp, I walked by this stand not even realizing what I was missing out on, but after seeing folks walking around with cute little pancakes, I decided to go investigate.
To be honest, the person manning the griddles was a little intimidating, so I was kind of scared lol, but the poffertjes looked so good that I couldn't resist trying. When I ordered, the let's call him "griddle man" kept it very brisk and got to work. I got regular poffertjes with powdered sugar and butter. Once they were done, he handed them to me with what seemed like a knowing gleam in his eye and asked if I wanted any more sugar, butter, or napkins. Again, I was kind of nervous so I said no and quickly took my order to the side to sit on a little bench and have a taste. Not to mention there was already a generous portion of butter and powdered sugar on the plate already.
That first bite, wow, pillowy soft, buttery, and sweet. It was like biting into a small piece of heaven. I was actually astonished by how good it was. The griddle man looked and me and asked "Good?" now with a smile. I exclaimed "Yes!! So good!" I was thinking I might save some for my husband, but I ate all of them right there on that bench with no regrets, and in the rain no less! I can confidently say those were the best form of pancake I have ever had. And for the price, it was a great deal.
